[Bug 1565975] Re: scanning sometimes impossible with LIDE 210

2017-01-11 Thread Nils Kassube
I have two machines with which I want to use the scanner, one of them is
the desktop with 64-bit Kubuntu (still 14.04) and the other one is a
rather old laptop which is not 64-bit capable (Pentium-M) with 32-bit
Kubuntu 16.04. When I discovered the problem on the laptop, I checked it
with the desktop and found out that it is the same for the 32-bit
version of 16.04, but different with 64-bit 16.04. And even with 64-bit
16.04 there is still the unusual noise and I fear that it might result
in some hardware wearout. So I'm not sure if using 64-bit really would
be a workaround.

[Bug 1645116] Re: core dump scanimage after installing brother DCP-J715W

2017-01-11 Thread Sylvain Viart
Thanks for the details. Done.

It should be reported, I initially used command line bug creation tools.

How do I check, that my bug report has been correctly uploaded?

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker mention "Choosing “Show Previous
Reports” in the settings interface should open a Web page listing those
reports" but it doesn't exists on xubuntu.

Regards,
Sylvain.

[Bug 1655546] Re: sqlite backend missing when recompiled with Qt 5.7.1

2017-01-11 Thread Rik Mills
On a very brief glance I can't see an obvious reason why that is not
being built.

However, Akonadi 16.12, which we intend to ship with zesty, on a rebuild
against Qt 5.7.1 successfully builds and installs the sqlite backend
library.

The sqlite/postgresql backend are also more or less depreciated or at
least problematic AFAIK, and kubuntu has as a result set a depends just
on the mysql backend.

Re: [Bug 1655260] Re: Kernel freezes

2017-01-11 Thread Viktor Penkov
1. "Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade?"
- Yes, the issue start happening when I've updated to this kernel.

2. "Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?"
- I think version 4.3.* was OK.

3. "Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds4.10.0-041000rc3-generic
 . Please test the latest
v4.10 kernel[0]."

- Now, I'm running kernel version 4.10.0-041000rc3-generic.
Unfortunately, there's some issue and I'm not able to install the headers
package. I've got this:

 sudo dpkg --configure -a

Anyway, I've succeed to boot the kernel and we'll see if it's OK.

[Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 doesn't have a bluetooth driver

2017-01-11 Thread Jan Vodochalek
Yes, I did it with sudo make install. Of course I modified the makefile,
so I could use the make install command. I tried it yesterday again with
the same result. Is the source for the rtbt available?

[Bug 1653636] Re: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0, 0)

2017-01-11 Thread Thomas A. F. Thorne
I expect I got the kernel the same way I get most of my kernels, though
an `apt-get upgrade`. Although I did try and compile a kernel a while
ago... I wonder if that got left around as an install option and it was
so long since I last rebooted I forgot about it!

Now isn't that a silly thing to do. I will reboot into 4.4.0-57 and
apply updates. Then probably remove the upstream kernel or at least try
updating it and seeing if it boots then remove it.

[Bug 1632322] Re: Computer never gets to the GDM3 login screen when nvidia- is installed

2017-01-11 Thread RobertFM
Temporary workaround is installing lightdm to get a logon screen and
switch back to gdm3 when this bug is fixed.

I am also waiting on this bug to be fixed. I had this problem also a
couple of years back.

sudo apt install lightdm

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

Then choose lightdm. Now you can use a login screen, instead of using
auto-logon.

Sorry Hua for the Delay, TL;DR waiting for merge review.

I just discussed last week with my peers, we agreed that if nothing
happens I'll upload as-is soon.

[Bug 1655584] [NEW] systemd-udevd busyloops when nvidia kernel module fails to load

2017-01-11 Thread Lauri Tirkkonen
Public bug reported:

On a machine where nvidia-367 is installed, but the driver won't attach (due to
the nvidia card being older and requiring legacy drivers), systemd-udevd
repeatedly attempts to load it anyway, causing high CPU and memory usage. I
observed the systemd-udevd process at 98% CPU usage and 2.5G RSS reported by
top(1); restarting the service reduces resource usage momentarily, but it
appears to be climbing back up (I suspect the number of events is growing).

Workaround is of course installing the correct driver package, but udevd really
ought not behave like this if something fails to load.

Some journal entries for systemd-udevd.service:

Jan 11 11:22:11 systemd-udevd[11651]: Process '/sbin/modprobe nvidia-drm'
failed with exit code 1.

[Bug 1597437] Re: X with nouveau driver, 2 nvidia cards, 4 monitors, does not use all monitors

2017-01-11 Thread Oleg Moiseichuk
I met with the same bug in Ubuntu 16.04.1 (amd64): 2 NVIDIA adapters with DVI
and HDMI connectors on each of them, 4 identical Samsung monitors, 4th monitor
is dead, 3rd is sometimes garbled, sometimes is OK. All the error messages
described by Martin are the same.
Luckily in #2 he provided the method which cures the bug with ATI cards in
Fedora. I decided to try it with Nouveau driver in Ubuntu and it worked!
I downloaded the sources using 'apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-nouveau',
found the string in drmmode_display.c which checks whether HAS_DIRTYTRACKING2
is defined and fixed it. Then I compiled the driver and replaced
'/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so' with the fixed version. After
reboot all 4 monitors were working on login screen, '~/.config/monitors.xml'
was created properly and all monitors were present when I logged in.
I'm attaching the patch. Maybe the developers will notice it and fix the
Nouveau driver?
(BTW, ATI driver in Ubuntu 16.04 seems already fixed - I checked its sources
and the mentioned string is already in place in drmmode_display.c)

** Patch added: "Fixes improper handling of 3rd and 4th monitors"

[Bug 1655136] Re: Multiple CVEs in xenial

2017-01-11 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Thanks Reiner for the debdiff.

I noticed that upstream provides Long Term Support versions: 0.9.38.x,
which is the same branch in Xenial. According to the SRU policy, new
upstream micro releases could be pushed as updates if they introduce
only bug fixes, especially for Ubuntu LTS releases.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microreleases

If you find that it is more beneficial and it is easier for you to push
the whole micro release instead of cherry picking fixes, go for it.

[Bug 1653636] Re: Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0, 0)

2017-01-11 Thread Thomas A. F. Thorne
Thank you Joseph, the upstream kernel from months ago was the cause of
the issue. I had completely forgotten about it being there and did not
recognise the change in version numbering as significant.

I followed the steps outlined in http://askubuntu.com/a/594484/109072 to
remove the kernel and a reboot now comepletes cleanly.

The steps I performed were:
> If compiled and installed via make install, you will need to manually remove
> the following entries:
>
> /boot/vmlinuz*KERNEL-VERSION*
> /boot/initrd*KERNEL-VERSION*
> /boot/System-map*KERNEL-VERSION*
> /boot/config-*KERNEL-VERSION*
> /lib/modules/*KERNEL-VERSION*/
> /var/lib/initramfs/*KERNEL-VERSION*/

Where KERNEL-VERSION for me was 4.4.21*.

[Bug 1654214] Re: Belkin Thunderbolt 2 Express Dock HD display port hot plug not supported.

2017-01-11 Thread dunk
I have the same symptoms with 4.10.0-041000rc3-generic .

I've attaches a copy of syslog which records the system booting with the
Thunderbolt attached, then being removed and re-inserted.

Search for the annotations in the syslog file:
syslog_boot_with_thunderbolt_then_reseat:
"Removing Thunderbolt"
"Replacing Thunderbolt"
"Done with Thunderbolt"

2017-01-11 Thread Blaze
Some people say it's working or was working before. However for me it's
still not clear, as I have no devices to test with.

[Bug 1655111] Re: LibVirt Apparmor profile has qemu-bridge-helper listed in the wrong directory

2017-01-11 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
thank you so much for reporting and helping to make Ubuntu better.
It is the right place to report it.

I checked on last and current version, as well as the Debian counterpart.
It is true that the rule is not matching, but it kind of never did.

Zesty:
qemu-system-common: /usr/lib/qemu/qemu-bridge-helper
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd:99: /usr/{lib,libexec}/qemu-bridge-helper
rmix,

Yakkety:
qemu-system-common: /usr/lib/qemu/qemu-bridge-helper
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu:224:
/usr/{lib,libexec}/qemu-bridge-helper rmix,

Debian:
qemu-system-common: /usr/lib/qemu/qemu-bridge-helper
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd:86: /usr/{lib,libexec}/qemu-bridge-helper
rmix,

Could you please describe the effect that you see due to that - is is an
execution error of some sort. Because I'd like to use that when
suggesting to upstream or Debian since they suffer of the same.

I think the upstream rule might not be broken in the upstream point of view. It
is part of the .deb packaging that makes it end up in /usr/lib/qemu instead of
/usr/lib/.
Maybe the right place to fix that is upstream, but in debian/pactches (instead
of debian/patches/debian), but that is where I'd like to hear the Debian
opinion as well.

If you would be open to go the extra mile, please feel free to report it
to Debian with that extra info I added and you will provide on the
actual effect. If not I can do that for you - eventually I want to link
up the bugs and add the same solution, so if you do mention the Deb-bug
number here.

So, TL;DR:
1. the rule never match the path of the tool
2. the path was always wrong
3. we followed upstream, I guess due to that now this actually is having an
effect
4. caused by .deb packaging placing it in a subdir to /usr/lib
5. please share some more details on the effect

[Bug 1264795] Re: Alt+Tab Switcher randomly activates itself

2017-01-11 Thread Daniel Parkes
Having the same problem on a fresh install of 16.04 LTS on an Acer
Aspire E 15. Occurs frequently (multiple times per minute) if my finger
is sitting on the touch pad. I’m running Unity. I’m hoping this can be
solved soon, but since this post now goes back more than 3 years, I’m
having my doubts.

[Bug 1650596] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2017-01-11 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From frede...@fr.ibm.com 2017-01-11 06:33 EDT---
Hello Mauricio,

on Debian side for Zesty's package upgrade, I would need to upgrade to latest
ppc64-diag which is 2.7.3.
Most patches are in 2.7.3 but one is missing and for some already applied
patches, by checking
cherry-picked ones (from the upstream), some hunks were still applying... so
I'd prefer you to
have a look if you don't mind.
I've checked with Vasant and he is planning a 2.7.4 version in February.
So a plan based on 2.7.4 is tight for both Debian and Ubuntu freeze.
Mauricio, would you mind having a look at what's needed on top of 2.7.3 ?
Few things should be needed (1patch from my understanding), so it would be
easy and safe to add it to the 2.7.3 packaging, and I can push the update right
away to
Debian Unstable and thus Ubuntu Zesty.
Thanks,

F.
