[Bug 1596154] [NEW] Attempted to re-install from sd-card
Public bug reported: I did a fresh erase install over an old Mac OS X installation on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. I didn't have the ethernet cable connected at the time. The download updates check box was grayed out. The installation completed. I logged in and noticed that I couldn't configure the wifi network via the System Settings panel. I realized that installation probably needed to download a BroadCom 3rd Party binary package. I figured that I didn't really configure anything, or have anything to loose, so I decided to connect the Ethernet cable and re-install Ubuntu. After option-boot into the SD card, the media I used for the initial installation as well, a radio box selection appears, including "Re- install Ubuntu 16 LTS only" or something along those lines. It said it would use as much of the existing system as possible and leave the home directories. I figured, that sounds like what I want. (It was also the first option.) That started along, but then complained that there wasn't an EFI partition for boot loader and it said this is not the same as the /boot partition. So I added a EFI System Partition in some free space of 134MB towards the end of the drive. Then it complained about two partitions that will mount in /boot and to change the mount point of one of them. The new partition that I made did not have a mount point in the list. Didn't get past that. Then it ended up back in the radio box selection for which type of installation to perform. I selected the next one on the list, Erase and Install. It re-partitioned and then I selected the option to download updates while installing. Then the installation failed. [Bug 1520355] Re: Backlight doesn't change in GNOME does in Unity
Enabling dual graphics/nvidia optimus in bios fixed the problem for me. When dual graphics is disabled the driver load produces the following path. /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ but with dual graphics enabled , the following path is created. /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight Finally I am pretty sure unity/xbacklight are using xrandr to change the brightness so that ends up using the graphics card driver to change the brightness. Where gnome is using the kernel path for an acpi call. I don't if it kernel bug or bios or video card bug for not handling the acpi call correctly. Might be better if gnome used xrandr instead or be able to switch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520355 Title: Backlight doesn't change in GNOME does in Unity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1520355/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this report because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Please also change the title of the report to something more meaningful, thanks! ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1591493 Title: idk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1591493/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. [Bug 1595607] Re: /bin/nano:*** Error in `nano': free(): invalid next size (normal): ADDR ***
I am quite willing to work on this issue, but... don't make me jump through hoops just to see the crash report. (Take an example from Fedora, where such reports are freely accessible (for example, https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/1181921/). I don't need heaps of information -- a backtrace is normally enough.) Anyway, I'm guessing your users are hitting a bug that is fixed by the first patch attached to this message: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html /nano-devel/2016-04/msg00075.html. Troubleshooting (what I did to find a solution): Crash report: Go to var/crash var/crash/_usr_bin_unity8-dash.1000.crash Title: unity8-dash crashed with SIGSEGV in QOpenGLContext::shareGroup() UnreportableReason: There are some older package versions installed on your system. Using X.org X server - Nouveau works fine, at least I can open Unity 8 and see Indicators and Launcher. I have written a log, I could publish it through Pastebin if it is any use to you. [Bug 1559735] Re: light-locker-settings does not start
@chesterman86 Download the light-locker-settings_python-psutil-newer- than-2.0.0.diff file from post #3. Then run; sudo patch /usr/share/light-locker-settings/light-locker-settings/light-locker-settings.py //light-locker-settings_python-psutil-newer-than-2.0.0.diff Make sure you use the correct which you downloaded. The resulting output in your terminal should say "patching file light-locker-settings.py" and Light Locker Settings should work. [Bug 1596152] Re: Restore "Compose Key" documentation
That was my proposal, IIRC. Might have been related to the fact that the X11 stuff was overridden by ibus (default IM framework in Ubuntu) at the time. That was changed in 16.04, and restoring the compose key section may be motivated. However, it doesn't seem to be all that easy. I recently added some dead keys (admittedly not Multi_key items) for Togo users, and it proved that you need to enable XIM to make them work. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard- config/+bug/1584314/comments/6 So I think some testing is motivated before adding the section back. Possibly there is a need to say that it may be necessary to switch to XIM for it to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1596152 Title: Restore "Compose Key" documentation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/1596152/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. [Bug 1595969] Re: Suspend doesn't work in ACER laptop
** Tags added: confirmed kernel-fixed-upstream ** Description changed: I bought this laptop three years ago. Used Kubuntu 14.04 and 15.04 without **any** problem. A couple of weeks ago I installed Kubuntu 16.04 as always (formatting /root partition and doing a fresh install, not an upgrade). Since then both suspend and hibernation hang the laptop: the screen goes black, the laptop seems to stop but it won't. After a couple of minutes the fan can be heard and there is no way to restart linux. I have to power off the laptop (the hard way) and then turn it on. I have followed some threads and it seems that this is a common bug (it happens in several different hardware configurations). The original 4.4.0-22-generic kernel has been updated to versions 23 and 24 (current) but no way. The bug is still present. Thanks a lot in advance! [Bug 1385981] Re: overtaken computer by a linux user i guess and i can't download google chrome now.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. If you're still experiencing the problems that you have described then at a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Hi. I'm using 14.04 and i really don't like the way that the files work when the trash or an external drive are open. This is how i think it should work: No applications open. You press the trash or an external drive icon and it should open a files window and light up the files and trash/external drive icon. If you press the files icon or thrash/external it should focus the files window and not open a new files window. If you want a new files window you should press the middle button or press the mouse right button and choose new window. If you press the trash button and then an external drive button, It should open a new tab on the files with the external drive contents. If you press the trash button and then press the middle click button on the external drive it should open a new files window with the external drive contents.
