[Bug 1596154] [NEW] Attempted to re-install from sd-card

2016-06-25 Thread Mike Harris
Public bug reported:

I did a fresh erase install over an old Mac OS X installation on a Core
2 Duo MacBook Pro. I didn't have the ethernet cable connected at the
time. The download updates check box was grayed out. The installation
completed. I logged in and noticed that I couldn't configure the wifi
network via the System Settings panel. I realized that installation
probably needed to download a BroadCom 3rd Party binary package. I
figured that I didn't really configure anything, or have anything to
loose, so I decided to connect the Ethernet cable and re-install Ubuntu.
After option-boot into the SD card, the media I used for the initial
installation as well, a radio box selection appears, including "Re-
install Ubuntu 16 LTS only" or something along those lines. It said it
would use as much of the existing system as possible and leave the home
directories. I figured, that sounds like what I want. (It was also the
first option.) That started along, but then complained that there wasn't
an EFI partition for boot loader and it said this is not the same as the
/boot partition. So I added a EFI System Partition in some free space
of 134MB towards the end of the drive. Then it complained about two
partitions that will mount in /boot and to change the mount point of one
of them. The new partition that I made did not have a mount point in
the list. Didn't get past that. Then it ended up back in the radio box
selection for which type of installation to perform. I selected the
next one on the list, Erase and Install. It re-partitioned and then I
selected the option to download updates while installing. Then the
installation failed.

[Bug 1596152] Re: Restore "Compose Key" documentation

2016-06-25 Thread Doug Smythies
Some notes, mainly for my own benefit:
There is nothing mentioned in our spreadsheet (under any tab):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19RdaR3G_8TQ49f-Nb0XJAwhnlweMWJqsTr4kciSV5S0/edit#gid=584037095

The related revision is:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-doc/ubuntu-docs/trunk/revision/331#ubuntu-help/C/tips-specialchars.page

The related MP 201320 has since been deleted, so those notes are now
lost. Wait, I still have the e-mails, relevant stuff copied below:

"* ubuntu-help/C/tips-specialchars.page:
Removed the section "Compose key", which not seems to be
applicable to Ubuntu 14.04, and the section "Input methods"."

[Bug 1520355] Re: Backlight doesn't change in GNOME does in Unity

2016-06-25 Thread benbennett
Enabling dual graphics/nvidia optimus in bios fixed the problem for me.
When dual graphics is disabled the driver load produces the following path.
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/

but with dual graphics enabled , the following path is created.
 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight

Finally I am pretty sure unity/xbacklight are using xrandr to change the
brightness so that ends
up using the graphics card driver to change the brightness.

Where gnome is using the kernel path for an acpi call.

I don't if it kernel bug or bios or video card bug for not handling the
acpi call correctly.

Might be better if gnome used xrandr instead or be able to switch.

[Bug 1591493] Re: idk

2016-06-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this report because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the title of the report to something more meaningful,
thanks!

[Bug 1584498] Re: how to fix?

2016-06-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 1595607] Re: /bin/nano:*** Error in `nano': free(): invalid next size (normal): ADDR ***

2016-06-25 Thread Benno Schulenberg
I am quite willing to work on this issue, but... don't make me jump
through hoops just to see the crash report. (Take an example from
Fedora, where such reports are freely accessible (for example,
https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/1181921/). I don't need
heaps of information -- a backtrace is normally enough.)

Anyway, I'm guessing your users are hitting a bug that is fixed by the
first patch attached to this message: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html
/nano-devel/2016-04/msg00075.html. That patch (and the other three)
were already applied to nano in Debian.

[Bug 1595238] Re: Unity 8 Desktop Preview System Settings do not work

2016-06-25 Thread Hannie Dumoleyn
Troubleshooting (what I did to find a solution):
Crash report:
Go to var/crash
var/crash/_usr_bin_unity8-dash.1000.crash
Title: unity8-dash crashed with SIGSEGV in QOpenGLContext::shareGroup()
UnreportableReason:
There are some older package versions installed on your system. Upgrade the
following packages and see if the problem is still there:
 libglib2.0-0, libglib2.0-bin, libglib2.0-data
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
_MarkForUpload: True

I installed these missing packages, but I still have the same problems:
System Settings do not work (ubuntu logo keeps spinning infinitely)
Browser does not work (I disabled my wired connexion and used wifi instead, but
I cannot open Browser)
Terminal does not work (Control Alt T, or typing Terminal in Dash: nothing
happens)

I tried NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 driver: result: lightdm freezes.
Using X.org X server - Nouveau works fine, at least I can open Unity 8 and see
Indicators and Launcher.

I have written a log, I could publish it through Pastebin if it is any
use to you. I would be grateful if someone can help me making Unity 8
work because I plan to write documentation for the Ubuntu docs.

[Bug 1559735] Re: light-locker-settings does not start

2016-06-25 Thread Alexander Chepurko
@chesterman86 Download the light-locker-settings_python-psutil-newer-
than-2.0.0.diff file from post #3. Then run;

sudo patch
/usr/share/light-locker-settings/light-locker-settings/light-locker-settings.py
//light-locker-settings_python-psutil-newer-than-2.0.0.diff

Make sure you use the correct which you
downloaded. The resulting output in your terminal should say "patching
file light-locker-settings.py" and Light Locker Settings should work. If
you couldn't patch it just try to edit the py file manually in the
/usr/share/... directory by removing the lines with a - in front and
adding lines with a + in front from the diff file.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.

[Bug 525441] Re: Reduce memory usage

2016-06-25 Thread JJ
If simple-scan is unable to load the cached data it should give the user the
option to abandon the cached auto-save data on successive attempts. Currently
it just tries and crashes repeatedly due to lack of memory.
At a minimum: Console output indicating an attempt to load the cache and its
location would've been helpful in solving the issue.

[Bug 1562552] Re: package systemd 225-1ubuntu9.1 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes pre-removal-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 2 zurück

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1561467 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1561467

Hello, I'm the one who got that Error.
I wanted to say that this was a fresh installation directly upgraded. It was
just an older image.
I previously made a packet update and got an adobe flashplugin-error. Maybe
that could help you?
Greetings, Max

[Bug 1596152] Re: Restore "Compose Key" documentation

2016-06-25 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
That was my proposal, IIRC. Might have been related to the fact that the
X11 stuff was overridden by ibus (default IM framework in Ubuntu) at the
time. That was changed in 16.04, and restoring the compose key section
may be motivated.

However, it doesn't seem to be all that easy. I recently added some dead
keys (admittedly not Multi_key items) for Togo users, and it proved that
you need to enable XIM to make them work.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-
config/+bug/1584314/comments/6

So I think some testing is motivated before adding the section back.
Possibly there is a need to say that it may be necessary to switch to
XIM for it to work.

[Bug 1583023] Re: I decided to try progrmam

2016-06-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

Nopember.

I think we should use kbbi for referring the Indonesian words.

[Bug 1596126] Re: Februari instead Pebruari in Indonesian

2016-06-25 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report.

This is not really a translation issue, but those month names are
fetched from the id_ID locale in the glibc package. I would suggest that
you report this to glibc upstream.

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?component=localedata&product=glibc

Once the bug has been filed there, please post a link to it here for
tracking purposes.

Note that this is not a change which will be backported to previous
Ubuntu versions.

[Bug 1595969] Re: Suspend doesn't work in ACER laptop

2016-06-25 Thread Juan Carlos Amengual
I have installed kernel v4.7-rc4-yakkety as requested (packages linux-
image-generic, linux-headers-generic, both amd64, and linux-headers,
all). I have rebooted with this kernel and I have suspended two times
the laptop (one from the KDE menu and the other one just closing the
lid). Both times suspend worked OK. Everything was fine. Finally, I have
hibernated the laptop and... everything was right again! The laptop
halted and resumed OK. I will use this kernel version until the bug has
been solved in mainstream kernel. I proceed to mark this bug as
requested. Thanks a lot!

[Bug 1434027] Re: Corrupted grapics in kde menus

2016-06-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version.

When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by
running only once:
apport-collect 1434027

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 1595969] Re: Suspend doesn't work in ACER laptop

2016-06-25 Thread Juan Carlos Amengual
** Tags added: confirmed kernel-fixed-upstream

** Description changed:

I bought this laptop three years ago. Used Kubuntu 14.04 and 15.04
without **any** problem. A couple of weeks ago I installed Kubuntu 16.04
as always (formatting /root partition and doing a fresh install, not an
upgrade). Since then both suspend and hibernation hang the laptop: the
screen goes black, the laptop seems to stop but it won't. After a couple
of minutes the fan can be heard and there is no way to restart linux. I
have to power off the laptop (the hard way) and then turn it on. I have
followed some threads and it seems that this is a common bug (it happens
in several different hardware configurations). The original
4.4.0-22-generic kernel has been updated to versions 23 and 24 (current)
but no way. The bug is still present. Thanks a lot in advance!

[Bug 1512792] Re: Pip crashes with cryptography/cffi/openssl error

2016-06-25 Thread Battant
Hello,

Very sory for my late reply I missed your message.

Finally, because calendarserver requires memcached, I have installed the
calendarserver package using the ubuntu package provided by ubuntu

apt-cache policy calendarserver
calendarserver:
  Installed: 7.0+dfsg-2
  Candidate: 7.0+dfsg-2
  Version table:
 *** 7.0+dfsg-2 500
500 http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I followed the documentation :

/usr/share/doc/calendarserver/README.Debian

I got the following results :

1. calendarserver service seems running but only for five minutes (the it exits)
2. During those five miuntes, I cannot contact it.

Any comment and suggestion would be very much appreciated

I will check carefully my mailbox.

Best regards

Battant

[Bug 1385981] Re: overtaken computer by a linux user i guess and i can't download google chrome now.

2016-06-25 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

If you're still experiencing the problems that you have described then
at a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 1553211] Re: Ubuntu should provide a default graphical method to install technical packages (plugins, kernels, terminal apps)

2016-06-25 Thread Matthias Klumpp
I think GNOME Software is the wrong choice for installing non-app system
packages.
So, in total there are three choices:

1) Use GNOME PackageKit for local package installs
2) Use GDebi
3) Hack GNOME Software to make local package installations work somehow.

[Bug 1421923] Re: No notifications for new mails

2016-06-25 Thread Niklas Wenzel
Hi all,

It took me ages to reply to this thread due to very important personal
issues. Sadly, I can't afford spending time on account-polld right now
as it is too big of a project to handle for me at the moment. Sorry!

However, I have to say that I really like the long-term solution Alberto
proposed here. I'm looking forward to it being implemented some time. :)

Cheers,
Niklas

[Bug 1170647] Re: After minimizing a Nautilus window of another partition or external media or Trash folder, clicking on the "Files" icon on the Launcher again doesn't restore the minimized window, bu

2016-06-25 Thread Hey!
Hi.

I'm using 14.04 and i really don't like the way that the files work when
the trash or an external drive are open.

This is how i think it should work:

No applications open.

You press the trash or an external drive icon and it should open a files
window and light up the files and trash/external drive icon.

If you press the files icon or thrash/external it should focus the files
window and not open a new files window. If you want a new files window
you should press the middle button or press the mouse right button and
choose new window.

If you press the trash button and then an external drive button, It
should open a new tab on the files with the external drive contents.

If you press the trash button and then press the middle click button on
the external drive it should open a new files window with the external
drive contents.

What is the best way to propose this solution to the developers?

Thanks and sorry for my English.

The kernel 4.4.0-27-generic is fixing on my Dell XPS 15 9550 the
headjack problems (now it always asks what I've connected, audio comes
back after fresh-boot and from suspend also).

With kernel 4.4.0-24-generic I still have it as an option to boot, the
problem still is reproduced (just to test back the error)

[Bug 1596190] [NEW] Erratic result when sorting a calc column's values containing a formula

2016-06-25 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Apport also fails to report due to:

Your computer does not have enough free memory to automatically analyze
the problem and send a report to the developers.

Thats very strange as only 850 kb/4096 is used at that time, and swap is
quite empty.

That crash has happened when 3250/4096 mb was used and swap quite empty: i was
getting erratic results when trying to sort a3:bc28 block and wanting to sort
