[Bug 1594073] [NEW] 16.04 - initrd fails to decrypt and mount /usr directory when it's on it's own cryptsetup partition
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, upgraded from a 15.10 that did not show the issue. Initramd fails at setting up the encrypted /usr partition. At the (initramfs) prompt the following command is accepted and succeeds at decrypting the partition: cryptsetup --key-file /root/etc/keys/sda5_usr open --type luks /dev/sda5 sda5_usr After entering the above command and pressing + to exit the initramfs shell, system boot resumes and completes successfully. /etc (in the initramd) does not have the crypttab file, which is present in the decrypted and mounted root filesystem in /root/etc. The problem manifests itself regardless that in /etc/initramfs- tools/initramfs.conf MODULES=most or MODULES=dep is set before generating the initrd. [Bug 1594080] [NEW] gnome-software does not reload itself after being upgraded
Public bug reported: This bug was inspired by https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1573408/comments/40 What happens After gnome-software itself is upgraded to a new version, a user needs to log out and log back in (or otherwise kill the background gnome-software service) to run the new version. What should happen == gnome-software should restart the background service when gnome-software is upgraded to a new version. This issue could instead be mitigated if gnome-software was not *always* running in the background but only ran occasionally as suggested by bug 1592678. How to reproduce Let's test bug 1573408, the inability to install 3rd party apps issue. 1. Since this was a bug released with Ubuntu 16.04, start with a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 install. You can even use the live DVD/USB for this test. 2. Open Firefox and browse to https://www.google.com/chrome/ 3. Click the Download now button then click Accept and install. 4. Open a terminal and run sudo apt update; sudo apt install gnome-software This will upgrade you to a version that fixes this bug. 8. Repeat steps 2-5. [Bug 1592678] Re: gnome-software starts very early in the session, slowing down boot
And because it runs all the time, we get issues like bug 1594080. [Bug 1594046] Re: lts 16.04 crashes frequently on acer TC-605
The suggestion from http://askubuntu.com/questions/776069/ubuntu-16-04-freezes-during-use which I found using the search mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1578944 to addintel_idle.max_cstate=1 to the options on GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= doesnt seem to have worked. I applied it to the default grub option, did sudo update-grub, restarted, logged on, did a few things then went away to do some other stuff. When I resumed working on the machine, it had frozen, except for the mouse pointer, which was able to be moved around, but no click or keyboard action got any response from the system. (the initial suggestion from the ask ubuntu answer referred to above was to replace "quiet splash" with intel_idle.max_cstate=1, but the later comment said just adding it worked for that person, so I tried adding it. I will now try replacing (i.e. removing the "quiet splash" as well as adding the above) instead and see if that works) meanwhile, one of the items I read mentioned same mouse pointer was able to be controlled but all else frozen. Will search again for that and see if it had another solution which I can try after I check the replace referred to above. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1594046 Title: lts 16.04 crashes frequently on acer TC-605 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1594046/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also see this memory leak with the nvidia driver v346 and the nouveau driver as well, so no difference here for me. What we need is a backport of these two patches mentioned in this KDE bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344879#c122 otherwise plasmashell will continue to eat more and more memory with every plasma screen update, like opening a plasmoid, systray item menu, etc. I tried Fedora 24, which is build against QT 5.6 and it does not suffer from this problem. ** Bug watch added: KDE Bug Tracking System #344879 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344879 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1587635 Title: also, in kde 5.6.4 from backports - plasmashell memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1587635/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1594097] [NEW] [Xenial] Geany 1.27 eats all the CPU and RAM then the session freezes
Public bug reported: Hello, since a week or maybe a little more I can't use Geany anymore in Xenial. It just gets my session to freeze. When I reach successfully a tty and am able to start htop, I can see it use almost all the CPU and most of the RAM + the system uses swap. Once I successfully kill it's process, still using htop, I can regain control on my session. I have done a large strace, which I uploaded here (12 MB) http://meets.free.fr/files/strace-geany.txt We can see it seeking for quite a few files in the system that it can't found. Can someone fix it or tell me how to fix it myself incase I'd be missing a package? ** Affects: geany (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1594097 Title: [Xenial] Geany 1.27 eats all the CPU and RAM then the session freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geany/+bug/1594097/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1447815] Re: codecs error
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. The bug title says that you have a codecs error but you also say that you can't access the real site. Did you mean http://www.real.com/ ? How is this a codecs error? You also say that you downloaded mplayer from Hungary. Was this from an Hungarian Ubuntu mirror or another program called Mplayer? You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). I'm sorry that is has taken so long to get back to you but if you're still having problems please provide us with further information and change the bug status back to "New". [Bug 1594097] Re: [Xenial] Geany 1.27 eats all the CPU and RAM then the session freezes
> open("/home/melodie/badblocks.log.txt", O_RDONLY) = 9 > fstat(9, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=1547706436, ...}) = 0 You try to open a 1547706436 bytes (1.5Gb) file: /home/melodie/badblocks.log.txt Geany will try and load this file into memory, which as it records a style information byte with each data byte, will lead to at the very least 3Gb of memory. It's likely to use even more temporarily at some points (I wouldn't be surprised to see +1 times the file size when passing the buffer to the editing component, Scintilla, so that would make it 4.5Gb). Yes, it's kinda unfortunate, but doing it like this has other advantages (well, temporary duplication only makes things simpler, no other advantages). Realistically, the best we could do is ask the users whether they really want to open such huge files, allowing to back off early. If the file is loaded automatically at startup because it's part of the session, you can either drop the session with the `-s` command-line switch, or manually edit your ~/.config/geany/geany.conf (with something else than Geany, or `geany -i`), and remove the `FILE_NAME_` line corresponding to that file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1594097 Title: [Xenial] Geany 1.27 eats all the CPU and RAM then the session freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geany/+bug/1594097/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1594104] [NEW] GNOME Music stuck at "The contents of your Music folder will appear here"
Public bug reported: When I open GNOME Music, I see this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/L5NLiBR.png?1 It simply displays the message: "Hey DJ. The contents of your Music folder will appear here." To fix it, you have to enable tracker by running `tracker control -s`, and then close the application and re-open. What I expected to happen: - The application should check whether Tracker is running, and tell me to turn it on if it's not. - The application should display some sort of animated progress indicator so that I can tell that it's doing something. - The application should not require a restart to see added music. [Bug 1589585] Re: Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds
Hi, just a quick question. I also have a problem with audio. Is this problem related to "fwupd and audio"? When starting "VLC Media Player" I get error: == Audio output failed: The audio device "default" could not be used: Connection refused. == looking into "System Setting" | Sound and on Ouput and Input there are no devices specified and on "Sound Effects" there is only "default". I know this was working before seeing the devices here. The "default" from VLC error is probably the "default" from "Sound Effects". I was searching the web and found this "USB audio device is not recognized after startup in 16.04" with URL: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd/+bug/1574079 and there is reference to "fwupd" and gnome-software. What I am wondering maybe there is common cause for my problem "gnome- sofware" endless spinning (current bug report) and VLC/audio problem. Looks like there were some fixed developed and are currently in "proposed" repository. What do you think? Are this problems related? P.S. I have also posted a question on Lenovo forum, to see if someone knows how to disable (if possible) figerprint device in BIOS: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T61-and-prior-T-series/How-to- disable-Figerprint-Reader-in-BIOS-or-in-Ubuntu-16-04/td-p/3353318 Regards -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1589585 Title: Ubuntu Software tab Installed refreshing endlessly every 2 seconds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd/+bug/1589585/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1585008] Re: Windows 7 guests hang on bootup when qxl video is used
I'd like to point out that this bug is a regression. I previously installed Win 7 using qxl just as Mr Johnston installed W2012R2, and got the generic drivers until I was able to install qxl drivers. Neither qxl nor stdvga work any more, only cirrus, and that only seems to work under Seabios now, whereas it used to function under OVMF, yes even for Windows 7.
