[Bug 1492778] Re: kde crashes when turning powering on display port monitor

2015-09-07 Thread Nikolay Mihaylov
I'm having the same problem on an up to date 15.10. Only I cannot log
back in because there's no display manager present. I can switch to a
virtual console and there it works. But when I get back to Console #7
the display goes into power saving mode. The only trace from the crash
is in dmesg:

kactivitymanage[1629]: segfault at 18 ip 7f4cf6438e90 sp 7ffead511e28

Over DVI it works fine - I can switch my display off and on again
without problems. I have a Z87 MB with Pentium G3258 using the
integrated graphics of the CPU.

[Bug 1492778] Re: kde crashes when turning powering on display port monitor

2015-09-07 Thread Nikolay Mihaylov
Since the bug was filed for 15.04, whereas I reported it for 15.10, I
have to add that it was present for me on 15.04 as well. Only I cannot
confirm whether switching to DVI helps.

Also, concerning the fact that I don't get log in screen - it seems to
be the same for the original reporter. He manually kills user processes
from a virtual console to get back a login screen.

And, if that's important, my display is Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP.

[Bug 1492597] Re: package shim-signed 1.9~12.04.1+0.8-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-09-07 Thread Steve Langasek
You have the shim-signed package installed on your system, but you have
the BIOS version of grub (grub-pc) installed instead of the UEFI version
(grub-efi-amd64). On Ubuntu 12.04 it is not possible to enforce a
compatible version of grub-install; you will need to either install
grub-efi-amd64, or, if your system is actually a BIOS-based system
rather than UEFI-based, remove shim-signed.

[Bug 1492934] [NEW] Kernel sometimes won't boot to login screen

2015-09-07 Thread Kristoffer Grundström
Public bug reported:

I'm using 3.19.0-26-generic as kernel.

Ubuntu version is:
Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04

Version of the nouveau driver is:
  Installed: 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1
  Candidate:1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1
  Version table:
 *** 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1 0
500 http://ftp.acc.umu.se/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expected the module to be able to work without freezing the entire system.
This issue prevents me from getting to the login session.

I have installed Ubuntu on my brand new laptop which is a Asus N550JK.
It has Hybrid Graphics (Intel 4th Generation + nVidia GeForce GTX 850M so I was
told to nvidia-prime for Optimus.
Sometimes when I boot the kernel it stops before I see the login window and the
computer is completely frozen.

However if I switch to the proprietary driver for nouveau the computer
doesn't lock completely anymore.

[Bug 1451277] Re: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic->vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE)

2015-09-07 Thread Sergio Callegari
>From LKML conversation, fix https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/11/20/581 is not
likely to be applied upstream, because it probably just papers over the
real bug.

The real issue appears with the patch series "scsi: convert host_busy to
atomic_t" that causes regressions on some hardware configurations. Might
not be due to this series either, but to some other race that this
change helps triggering.

I wonder if papering over can be acceptable downstream.

[Bug 1492939] [NEW] Enhancement request: please document how to build kernel in PPA

2015-09-07 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In the process of working around an issue that has appeared in the linux
kernel after the patch series "convert host_busy to atomic_t" (see bug
1451277), I would like to compile kernel deb packages that work around
the issue in a PPA, using patches that appeared on the LKML.

Unfortunately, it is unclear to me how to build a kernel in a PPA.

Simply taking the kernel source package, applying the patch, rebuilding
the source package and uploading to the PPA fails to build in the PPA
(due to ABI checks, I believe).

I have not been able to find any up to date instruction on how to create
a kernel source package with just a trivial patch on top of the current
ubuntu kernel and build it in a PPA.

- Instructions in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Dev/KernelBuildScripts
do not seem recent and appear to involve much more than what is needed
for my case. Most important, they fail at the invocation of the build-
mkppa command.

- Instructions in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1682345 seem
to work, but they are very unofficial and look like black magic.
Specifically, what are those parameters supposed to do and why are they
needed? Why do these parameter make the built kernel a very different
size than the original one? A minor patch should not make this
difference.

Altogether, can up to date, official instructions for building the
Ubuntu kernel + a patch in a PPA be added somewhere?

Thanks!

[Bug 1492418] Re: in my bq aquaris 4.5 ubuntu edition not working properly https

2015-09-07 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report.

Do you really mean https website (which doesn't necessarily require an
authentication but are secured by a certificate) or website requiring
http authentication?

Could you please provide an example?

Thanks.

Coupled with lp:1433411, this makes impossible running OpenAFS on

The plan is that openvswitch will make use of this library; so an

There is a MIR under bug 1492186 to cover its move to main once we get

[Bug 1492820] Re: unity greeter does not respect if a screen is in portrait orientation

2015-09-07 Thread Till Haldimann
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 15.04
  unity-greeter 15.04.4-0ubuntu1

I have two screens. The main screen is in landscape orientation, the
second screen is in portrait orientation. The unity greeter displays the
wallpaper on the second screen as if the screen was also in landscape
orientation, so it appears 90° rotated.

- I would like to have the wallpaper on the second screen rotated
- correctly or not displayed at all (just a black screen).
+ There seems to be now way to configure the screen arrangement and
+ orientation for the unity greeter. Also screens can have different
+ aspect ratios which makes it difficult to automatically display
+ wallpapers in an aesthetically pleasing manner. It would probably be
+ best to only display the wallpaper and login prompt on the main display
+ and leave all other screens black.

[Bug 1490895] Re: Skylake/Broadwell/Haswell: No HDMI audio jack detection in D3

2015-09-07 Thread Jerry Kao
I tried the fail SKL system with KH2 image. The issue Ray discovered can
be reproduced without diwic's patches. So it seems not a regression
issue for this fix.

Before install patches, no matter HDMI plug or non-plug, the error in
comment#12 could happen.
With HDMI plugging: failure rate 2/2
Without HDMI plugging: failure rate 2/3

[Bug 1002985]

2015-09-07 Thread Qa-admin-q
** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of
LibreOffice (5.0.0.5 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of
LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug
behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of
LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:

1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3
unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

Thank you for your help!

I tried to install Mageia 5 on my new laptop (UEFI) an ASUS N551J with
two graphical cards (intel and nvidia). I have tried every option
mentioned in the errata (hybrid graphics). I have tried the Live KDE 64
DVD and the classical 64 DVD. Nothing works. I am now 'doomed' to use
Mint, that works at once, but I like Mageia much better (if it is
installable).

LiveKDE64DVD:

Sometimes at boottime (LiveDVD) I get many nouveau errors and after a
while I get a KDE desktop (intel detected?). I can than install it and
after reboot I sometimes can configure a user and can log in into KDE.
After a few seconds everything freezes. Poweroff and poweron and than it
freezes already at boottime (blank screen or with nouveau errors with
sometimes I see kernel panic).

Sometimes at boottime (LiveDVD) I get less nouveau errors and it freezes
already (no KDE).

I tried boot options as suggested 'optimus' and/or 'rd.blacklist=nouveau
rd.blacklist=nvidia xdriver=intel' –> No effect. Still nouveau errors at
boottime and/or freezes.

ClassicalKDE64DVD:

Installation works until after reboot. Same problems as with the LiveDVD.
I tried the boot options, no effect. At the point of the installer to configure
the graphics, it suggested 'Intel 810 and later' and not 'use intel only' as
told in the errata. Even with Intel selected I get nouveau errors at boottime,
with or without boot options.

It seems a problem like mentioned in the errata with the hybrid graphics
(Intel+Nvidia), but the suggested options does not work.

Linux Mint 17.1:

No problem, works at once. No errors.

My recollection is that using rd.blacklist didn't work for me, because
the nouveau driver got loaded later in the boot sequence. You could try
adding

  blacklist nouveau

to /etc/modprobe.conf on the installed system to see if that helps.

I see in Peter's log that he is also experiencing bug 16033, although
that is probably not important at this stage.

The same boot options I use for the installed system.
Right after install with the first boot I selected 'Safe Mode' and added
'blacklist nouveau' to /etc/modprobe.conf.

After this I get no errors and get a beautiful Mageia KDE desktop.

[Bug 1492351] Re: novnc package is missing important launch.sh script, present in the source package

** Description changed:

  Summarising from
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/novnc/+question/271057

utils/launch.sh (present in the novnc source package) is a fairly
essential part of this application. Without it a user really needs to
know how to start up websockify manually, and all the documentation I
found online, simply says start utils/launch.sh

- Simply extracting the file, isn't enough, as it assumes a websockify is
- in the same (utils) folder, so applying this diff, makes it work
- perfectly with the existing novnc package.
+ Simply extracting the file, isn't enough, as it assumes a websockify

+ changes the call to make the call as long as websockify is on the path,

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2015-09-07 Thread Andrei
I've been seeing this issue since I've first started using Ubuntu a
couple of years back. I've never actually looked into the issue further
as I thought a bug report should've already been opened and a fix
incoming. Today I've encountered the issue again and had enough, so I
searched and came across this thread.

So you're telling me this issue has been known for literally 11 years
(or even more, considering its root cause is X) and there is still no
fix? Are you guys idiots? No seriously now, are you fucking kidding me?
This is purely unacceptable. I don't give a damn how many discussions
have existed on this matter or how hard it is to implement a fix, and
frankly, it doesn't even matter. You've had 11 fucking years to get your
shit together and figure it out. I literally don't even know anymore if
I should blame the open-source community or the pure incompetence of
Canonical to put a stop to this madness. This has got to be THE WORST
bug with such a history from Ubuntu ever.

I can't even...

The fix should be to place the cursor handles above the text field, not

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) reboot
  2) open messaging-app
  3) drag up to create a new message
  4) start typing in the send field at bottom
  5) try to drag the handles to reposition the caret

[Bug 1269883] Re: 0b95:1790 [Asus N55SF] Bad performance of Asix Ethernet-to-USB device on USB3 port

2015-09-07 Thread gouri
Thanks William for your comment.

Reading activity following your links, there seems to be differences:

* launchpad (here): problem starts immediately, not on receiving heavy traffic.
Adapter unusable in practice on USB3 (not even for moderate activity), always
ok on USB2. Also, machine feels a little sluggish but no crash, kernel panic or
hang observed.
* github: reports dmesg but not much detail about what's wrong
* bugzilla: "transferring a huge number of files or pretty heavy files caused
kernel panic: either I had a stacktrace displayed or the computer became
completely unresponsive.", USB3, sometimes USB2.

Might be a different bug?

[Bug 1477225] Re: ceph-radosgw restart fails

2015-09-07 Thread Liam Young
** Description changed:

+ Upstream Bug: http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/11140
+
  [Impact]

On 14.04 the restart target of the sysvinit script brings the service down
but sometimes fails to bring the service back up again. There is a race
between stop and start and in the failure case the attempt to bring the service
up runs before the service has been stopped and the start command is never
issued:

The proposed fix updates /etc/init.d/radosgw so that the stop target
waits for up to 30 seconds for the service to stop cleanly

  [Regression Potential]

   * The only change in behaviour that would result from this change is that
running the stop target in the init script will wait for up to 30s before
exiting rather than retuning immediatly. I cannot think of any use cases
where this would be an issue.

[Bug 1481737] Re: HAProxy init script is not working properly

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

We're in sync with Debian on the haproxy package so this bug should be
reported there. For Ubuntu, managing haproxy with systemd units would
presumably be easiest; this could also be contributed to Debian.

Workaround: change /etc/init.d/haproxy as you described. Importance ->
Medium since a workaround is available.

[Bug 1492780] Re: package python3-urllib3 1.7.1-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubun
tu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than configuration
problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us to focus on fixing bug
s in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "
How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs
.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of
the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a prob
lem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1492343] Re: Pages hidden in an AdpativePageLayout stack have their width changed to zero

2015-09-07 Thread Tim Peeters
Actually the Page does not fill its parent, but anchors to all sides
except the top, and the Page.height depends on the parent, the header,
and whether the Page has a flickable. As long as we don't move the
header into the page, I don't see a better solution than what we have
now. If we don't anchor it to parent.bottom, then we need to offset its
y depending on the header.

That said, if the header goes into the page, we could set implicitWidth
and implicitHeight of the Page instead of anchoring, or don't set any
anchors/width/height at all (although mostly it will have to fill its
parent).

Anyway, I don't think any choice we make will fix the current bug, so
that's a separate discussion.

[Bug 1385868] Re: Samba logrotate script uses invalid argument to /etc/init.d/nmdb

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
@elatllat

We'd love more community help! Please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess for details on getting this
into the sponsorship queue. Keep in mind that submitted patches may not
necessarily be suitable - sometimes they aren't the correct fix, might
regress other users, or should be sent to Debian instead rather than
increase the maintenance burden in Ubuntu. But if it's appropriate, a
patch pilot processing the sponsorship queue will apply it.

Thanks again for volunteering!

[Bug 251632] Re: DHCP client should not create temporary files in /etc

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
> The bug is not actually fixed, it is only worked around by installing
the "resolvconf" package by default.

Debian consider this bug fixed, and this issue originates from Debian.
So there is no action to take in Ubuntu unless someone wants to take it
up in Debian by re-opening the bug there or filing a new bug there as
appropriate.

I'm going to mark this Fix Released in dhcp3 (Ubuntu) to represent that
we consider it resolved by installing resolvconf, so as not to mislead
others into thinking that there is outstanding work to be done in Ubuntu
here. If you want to get this addressed further, then please take action
to have this addressed in Debian and then we can mirror their bug status
for Ubuntu instead. Otherwise, we'll follow Debian and consider this bug
fixed.

[Bug 1488056] Re: Rejected send message, 10 matched rules; type="method_return", sender=":1.84"

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
@Jean-Pierre:

You downgraded those packages from what version? Please could you
confirm what versions work and what versions don't? I've also looked at
the changelog entries for the security updates that were applied to
bind9 in 15.04 since release, and none of the changes seem related. So
it seems unlikely to me to be the culprit. On this basis, please could
you double check that this change, and no other change, is causing you a
regression?

For example, please:

1) Reboot, follow your reproduction steps and confirm that the failure does not
reproduce.
2) Upgrade bind9 packages (and nothing else) to the latest updates.
3) Reboot, follow your reproduction steps (exactly as in step 1) and confirm
that the failure does reproduce the issue.

Please report exactly what you did to reproduce the issue, the output of
"dpkg -l" for each of the cases when you can reproduce and when you
cannot reproduce, and then set the bug status back to New. Thanks!

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please could you confirm which releases in Ubuntu are affected? I see no
python3-memcache package in Trusty, 1.53+2014.06.08.git.918e88c496-1
Vivid and 1.56-1 in Wily.

[Bug 1482227] Re: [MIR] python-pyeclib, liberasurecode, jerasure, gf-complete

2015-09-07 Thread James Page
After resolution of the backend loading issues in liberasurecode, I
think this is now ready for review.

** Description changed:

  [Overview]

  Swift 2.3.0 has experimental support for erasure coded storage pools;
even though this is optional, the integration is fairly well laced into
the storage pool code, and the project are working towards making this
  production grade.

This MIR requests that the required dependency be included in main, so
we can move to the newer Swift versions (getting other new version
  goodness as well).

Its also worth noting that CPU optimization is currently a build time
feature in this dependency chain - as as a result is disable to meet the
minimum CPU feature baseline in Debian, so the algorithms are not
optimized in any way so won't be as performant as they should be on
  modern CPU architectures.

  >> pyeclib <<

  [Availability]
  In universe and Debian

  [Rationale]
New dependency for OpenStack Swift to support erasure coded pools of object
data.

  [Security]
  No security history.

  [Quality assurance]
Package builds OK, unit tests executed as part of package build

  [Dependencies]
All in main or on this MIR request.

  [Standards compliance]
  OK

  [Maintenance]
  ubuntu-server/ubuntu-openstack

  [Background information]
pyeclib provides a python wrap around liberasurecode - versions must be
exactly matched

[Bug 1492521] Re: package openbsd-inetd 0.20091229-2ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.
