[Bug 1450989] Re: USB attached keyboard and mouse don't work at the login time to Ubuntu Trusty Tahr 64 bit

2015-06-09 Thread Dr JD Wallach
Hi,
A workaround for this bug is:
Start the machine from scratch with all the USB devices plugged in.
Wait for the Grub menu to show on the screen.
Using the keyboard select Ubuntu as the operating system to load.
Right after selecting the Ubuntu OS, disconnect the USB mouse (be it direct USB
plug-in or remote).
When the Ubuntu login screen comes up it will be possible to use the keyboard
to enter the user-name and the password.
Once the Ubuntu environment is established, reconnect the USB mouse., and use
it normally.
Problem solved, although a bit annoying.
Hope this helps.

[Bug 1461001] Re: kwin_x11 goes crazy after waking up from suspend-to-RAM

2015-06-09 Thread Arne Henningsen
Unfortunately, the work-around with "Alt+Shift+F12" as suggested in
another bug report [1] does not work for me. Perhaps it does not work,
because my screen is locked so that "Alt+Shift+F12" is blocked by the
lock screen (while "Ctrl-Alt-FX", with X=1,...,7 is not blocked by the
lock screen).

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-

[Bug 1463120] Re: Failure to boot if fstab disk mounts fail

2015-06-09 Thread Mark Rogers
As requested, I have now set package to "linux" (ie kernel) due to the
point in the boot sequence at which the issue occurs. I'm far from
qualified to speculate but I am reasonably sure that this is not a
kernel issue but a boot script dependency issue, which was why I didn't
specify a package initially. Hopefully someone can point me in the right
direction?

[Bug 1463303] [NEW] Pithos fails to play and throws error when using VPN

2015-06-09 Thread Matthew
Public bug reported:

Expected behaviour:
If a VPN was on since before Pithos was started, and the VPN stays on, Pithos
should work as if there was no VPN in use.

Observed behaviour:
When I start up Pithos with the VPN on, it doesn't work. Specifically,
* Pithos loads the song info and album art for each song. (So there is some
communication with the Pandora server)
* Pithos makes no sound.
* Pithos tries to play a song. (Appears as if it is loading the first track.)
After a few seconds, without outputting any audio, it moves to the next track
and displays a text error under the artist name for the first track. The error
message is not always the same. For some tracks it says "could not determine
type of stream". For others it says "could not open source for reading"
* Pithos tries each song for a few seconds, then gives up. After about 6 songs,
it stops moving on to the next track, and creates a pop up with one of the 2
above error messages.

I can use the Pandora web interface successfully when I'm using a VPN. I
can even disable and re-enable the VPN while the web client is playing
without any troubles.

VPN type: Open-vpn, using a VPN server located in my city

Linux version: Mint 17 Quiana, 64 bit

Pithos version:
  Installed: 0.3.17-2
  Candidate: 0.3.17-2

[Bug 1463263] Re: X11 Forwarding is broken following upgrade to Ubuntu Server 15.04 from 14.10

2015-06-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1463263/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1463304] [NEW] No way to resize a picture with default software installed on a major and modern OS

2015-06-09 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu comes with Eye of gnome and Shotwell viewer as default
applications to open image files.

While Eye of gnome allows to rotate and mirror the image, Shotwell viewer
allows to crop, to rotate more precisely, to adjust color or to filter "red
eye" effect. But none of both has a resize feature, as surprizing as it is in
2015 !
Of course Gimp does resizing, but it's a bit overkill and a less user-friendly
tool.

Ideally, if most of usual functions (resize, rotate, mirror, crop, color
tasks like red-eye, sepia, graying) would be available in the same tool,
like Preview.app does in Mac OS X, it would be a great evolution !

[Bug 1426307] Re: location is inaccurate

2015-06-09 Thread Lucio Carreras
Hi, maybe I crowed to soon. I rebooted this morning and everything was
the same. I always test with the Sensor Status app and an additional app
I wrote by myself.

I don't get any data by the GPS sensor for about 10 minutes sometimes,
sometimes no data at all. My 30€ mobile GPS device works fine. But when
I got the GPS fix, the location data is updated very often and
everything works as expected. The accuracy of the position is also
perfect.

[Bug 1446177] Re: Nodeinfo returns wrong NUMA topology / bad virtualization performance

2015-06-09 Thread Stefan Bader
No, I would prefer if you stick to the 12.04 base (optionally remove the
3.19 kernel or just boot into the original 3.13) and install the special
linbirt-1.2.12 from 15.04 for 14.04. I hope this works since I had to
drop systemd/cgrougmanager related changes that would not compile in the
old environment. So its only compile tested right now. Fingers crossed
it should produce similar debug messages about parsing sysfs.

[Bug 1461174] Re: Need support for Realtek Wifi card rtl8723be [10ec:b723] for 14.04.2 (utopic LTS HWE stack)

2015-06-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tim Chen, as per
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=6943835&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(1.30). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1132736] Re: Xorg fails to start after installing the hardware enablement stack on precise due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg

2015-06-09 Thread Timo Jyrinki
** Description changed:

+ Bug:
+
+ The bug happens whenever the remaining configuration files of the
+ original X stack is removed, ie purging. It does not happen for users
+ who do not explicitly remove those.
+
+ Workaround:
+
+ For example, if upgraded 14.04 LTS to the 14.04.2 HWE stack
+ (=14.10/utopic):
+
+ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-lts-utopic
+
+ This restores the symlink /etc/X11/X -> /usr/bin/Xorg
+
+ ---
+
After installing the hardware enablement stack on precise by running:
- sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-lts-quantal
+ sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-lts-quantal

Xorg fail to start. There is no error message or anything, just a black
screen. Switching to a vt i possible and lightdm/x-0.log shows that a symlink
is missing:
X: cannot stat /etc/X11/X (No such file or directory), aborting.

I updates two computers running precise x86_64 and both had the problem.

Just recreating the symlink fixes the problem and then precise runs
perfectly fine with the new stack (in fact, it's more stable so far).

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)

** Also affects: xorg-lts-vivid (Ubuntu)

interesting thing is of course:

recvmsg -> pam session open -> write the same to syslog files
recvmsg -> cron cmd -> write the same to syslog
recvmsg -> pam session closed -> write to syslog

But in this instance where things mess up, I'm seeing:

recvmsg -> pam session open -> write to syslog

[Bug 1302143] Re: wireshark crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_printerr()

2015-06-09 Thread Sven Berkvens-Matthijsse
The problem is easily solved by uninstalling the package overlay-
scrollbars. It does not seem to handle the case well in which there is
very little room for a scrollbar or something like that. Running
wireshark from the console yields messages like:

(wireshark:3889): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_range_get_adjustment: assertion

[Bug 1327412] Re: Delay during PXE Boot, IP-Config gives up

2015-06-09 Thread patpat
This is the patch that "fix" this issue...
I have been using this patch for almost a year and works perfectly

static int dhcp_send(struct netdev *dev, struct iovec *vec)
{
...
 - bootp.yiaddr = dev->ip_addr;
 +bootp.yiaddr = INADDR_ANY;
 +bootp.flags = htons(0x800);
...
}

I have been talking to Debian people (Daniel Baumann, )who have proved their
complete lack of understanding/interest; they just do not care about this bug.
Talking to them is wasting my time; hopefully Ubuntu will fix this soon.

NOTE:
Please consider ipconfig needs to know (command line parameter)
if your server is of type "bootp" or "dhcp", if this parameter is wrong
ipconfig gives up.

Okay... How can I check this? I am sorry, but I am pretty new to the
internals alsa / pulseaudio... I am not sure how can I help you best
there to narrow down the issue...

[Bug 1460945] Re: System Settings Updates/Storage pages lead to high cpu usage even there is no network/io activity

2015-06-09 Thread Vicamo Yang
Update summary because one doesn't need a power meter to verify this
issue. Just run `top` and you'll find CPU usage rise. I would like to
have some profiling on unity/system-settings first, but just have no
idea and find no documents to proceed.

** Summary changed:

- System Settings Updates/Storage pages consume 700mA or more even there is no
network/io activity
+ System Settings Updates/Storage pages lead to high cpu usage even there is no
network/io activity

Could you also push the packages for Trusty and Utopic? :)

[Bug 1429427] Re: Unexplainable time jumps in CRON

2015-06-09 Thread sgofferj
Hi,

did you notice that I wrote that the time jumps ONLY affect CRON
entries? No other message shows them, even not the firewall log which
receives logs from a Cisco ASA in debug logging mode, so there's A LOT
of logs coming in on that channel.

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze

2015-06-09 Thread mika
Intel® Core™ i7-4712
 GTX 860M / intel

#38 didn't do it for me
#18 is more complicate than putting laptop to sleep & back on on nvidia boot
(to keep the ability to switch easily between graphic card)

however, KUZnets has written a script to work around but haven't
tested it although it sounds very good;

see KUZnets comment, March 08, 2015 9:49 PM here :
http://vxlabs.com/2015/02/05/solving-the-ubuntu-14-04-nvidia-346-nvidia-
prime-black-screen-issue/

if someone (less noob than me) could confirm this a decent workaround
(for laptop user at least) that won't create more problem than it solves
? thanks

[Bug 1322897] Re: syslog spam Failed to get vmstats.

2015-06-09 Thread WIll Salmon
Thanks. At least it's useful to know that the message can be ignored as
it comes out EVERY 30 SECONDS (not every 30 min) !!

I found that the suggested rsyslog /etc/rsyslog.d/40-discard.conf did
not work (on Ubuntu 12.04.5 with Trusty kernel and rsyslog version
5.8.6-1ubuntu8.9), so I used the file below instead - see :
http://www.rsyslog.com/discarding-unwanted-messages/

# Discard unwanted message from vmtoolsd
# Ubuntu open-vm-tools-lts-trusty has bug that writes message every 30sec:

[Bug 1429427] Re: Unexplainable time jumps in CRON

2015-06-09 Thread G.J.
Hi Stefan,

yup yup, same here, only showing for cron related entries in syslog.
Also somewhat busy due to a noisy sogo/postfix/openchange/dovecot plus
all sorts of extra add-ons. Not nearly as noisy as a firewall logging of
course ;-)

Can you strace your cron pid for a bit, including forks and hopefully confirm
it is sending correct dates to syslog?
Next you can try then is to strace your rsyslog, which will be very noisy so
you best grep for cron related stuff only ;-)

Are you using rsyslog? And are you also seeing that xconsole noise?

After my rsyslog restart this morning, not seeing any time jumping for
cron in syslog just yet, so it's likely also related to something
happening over time, like a buffer or other memory related issue.

You could try the same, restart rsyslog and see how long it takes for
things to start jumping around again...

Cheers,

GJ

[Bug 1451233] Re: Realtek RTL8723BE drops connection until reboot

2015-06-09 Thread Pilot6
I made a ppa with new Realtek wireless drivers. They fix most of issues.
Theu can be installed by

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rtlwifi-new-dkms linux-firmware

Note: For some usb dongles this combined driver does not work well.
There is a standalone driver, that can be installed from same ppa

sudo apt-get installed by

sudo apt-get install rtl8192cu-dkms

There is also a bluetooth driver for rtl8723be/rtl8723au combo chip.

sudo apt-get install rtl8723au-bt-dkms

[Bug 1461986] Re: can't change usb_charge attribute in /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop

2015-06-09 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Black, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please
report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (platform-driver-x86
CC Mattia Dongili) by following the instructions verbatim at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-
lists.html . It can take a day for the new e-mail to show up in the
respective archive.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1324095] Re: [Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro] ideapad_laptop kernel module breaks wireless

2015-06-09 Thread Tim Edwards
I no longer get this problem with the Utopic kernel from the LTS
Enablement Stack in Ubuntu 14.04.2. Previously I had to manually build a
fixed version the driver ideapad-laptop after each kernel update, this
seems to no longer be necessary on my Yoga 2 Pro.

[Bug 1442549] Re: Mouse randomly stops working

2015-06-09 Thread jkbkot
It behaves the same with the latest kernel.

However, it's most likely a hardware error.

I bought a new mouse - the samel model and it works fine while the old
one still randomly disconnects.

I also found an explanation for the error:

> "most probably it’s a result of hardware failure rather than a driver
or kernel bug. USB has an over-current protection, which gets triggered
when power consumption from the port is too high."

https://paulphilippov.com/articles/how-to-fix-device-not-accepting-address-error
http://askubuntu.com/questions/341241/ubuntu-wont-start-with-device-descriptor-read-64-error-32-what-this-messag
https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=5423.0

I noticed that one workaround is to connect the mouse via a USB hub - in
that case the mouse reconnects immediately so it's unresponsive only for
one or two seconds. This is probably not good for the hardware, I do not
recommend this solution.

Is this going to be fixed in Vivid? It's randomly crippling my server on
reboots. Can I install the Wily version on 15.04?
