I have the same problem with my Dell Latitude, the dell keyboard layout is german but the Logitech K270 bluetooth keyboard has the english layout. Sometimes it even persists after login and the bluetooth keyboard stays english, sometimes not. Hi, I did the instructions in #30 (Pietro) but I had to choose the option "install boot override" with "apply now" the device was allways occupied. Anyway, now it showing the same in alsamixer as #31 (cesar) but to get the subwoofer working I have to plug the headphones into one of the two (headphone or headset) connectors. As soon as I remove them I loose the subwoofer ! What I'm doing wrong ? I'm on Ubuntu server + xfce4 with his mixer (alsa) which shows also a setting switches > "speaker" that enable/disable de front speaker. I would like to second that this problem is active in 14.10. System: Custom server with dual Intel Xeon E5-2630 CPU and dual ethernet ports OS: Bare metal install of Ubuntu server 14.10 plus xfce4 (xubuntu) desktop After the OS install, the system has consistently been hanging as reported above during the boot sequence. Following the boot message: "Starting configure network device" /etc/init/failsafe.conf displays these messages with the associated two minute sleeps: Waiting for network configuration... Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration... Booting system without full network configuration... However, shortly after the original "Starting configure network device" message, I am able to ping both network interfaces from a remote machine. It appears that although the interfaces are configured and active, plymouth remains confused and fails to issue a successful return code. This system was automatically configuring the two interfaces as p1p1 and p2p1, so I have written an /etc/udev/rules.d/70 -persistent-net.rules file to rename these back to a more respectable eth0 and eth1. However, the hanging problem preceded any of this renaming activity. This delay is a real pain and appears to affect quite a few people. It would be good to pin down the nature of the problem and fix it once and for all. This appears to extend back to at least 2011 and can be found elsewhere under bug-ids 885596 and 881079. [Bug 1407400] [NEW] WLAN interface throughput drops thanks to NetworkManager
Public bug reported: Here I have a pic of the wifi periodic drops http://i.imgur.com/JhRVP8F.png. Server is connected to the router per LAN. I'm connecting to the server through the router's WLAN. Bytes are transferred in one direction using nc. The graph at the top is the CPU load on the router, another one below is the router's wlan1(5GHz) iface throughput in MB/s. I thought that the router is guilty so I measured cpu and wlan iface statistics on the router. But it turned out that the problem lies on the client side and on the NetworkManager to be precise. As these drops happens exactly with 120s periodicity I assume that it's the background station scanning nm does even when connected to a station! To prove that the nm is to blame I deactivated it and activated the wlan iface manually. This problem has reappeared yesterday after quite a time but as there were no new updates I can not think of a possible cause for it to reappear. There was an update to the anacron software and I wonder if that update could have "restored" the default installation keyboard layout somehow. Clicking on my selected keyboard layout seems to have restored my preferred layout but I noticed it was reset to US keyboard layout after switching on and logging in this morning. I have update update bios to the last version my old bios was 221 - it is provided from Asus for download too. Nothing changed after bios update processes started and stopped and and ubuntu hangs.. The output for this commands: G75VW.223 01/07/2013 I have execute it from recovery mode after bios update. Just to mention that I have add 8GB RAM to my system (now I have 2x4GB + 8GB) and next upgrade ubuntu to 14.10 Memory RAM test do not report for errors after 6 hours. I found that this message generated because I manually disabled the modemmanager Upstart service, which isn't a bug since NetworkManager needs it anyway. Namely, that function sets up implicit device wake notification mechanism for a given GPE if there is no handler method in the ACPI namespace, which from the ACPICA's perspective means that there always is a way to handle that GPE if enabled. However, we don't handle wake notify events for buttons, so if there are no handler methods for their GPEs in the namespace, enabling a button GPE at run time leads to a GPE storm in some cases (the GPE triggers, ACPICA carries out the implicit wake notification for it which isn't handled, so the GPE triggers again and so on). To prevent that from happening use acpi_mark_gpe_for_wake() instead of acpi_setup_gpe_for_wake() for buttons which will cause ACPICA to only enable button GPEs if there are handler methods for the in the namespace.
