[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2014-06-17 Thread M4he
@Ajay: That's a rather subjective opinion! Search will always get slow on huge
folders. Because of the technical nature of type-ahead it is still fast even on
huge folder contents. When I use type-ahead it takes me less than 1 second to
choose and enter a folder.
I know my folders and their subfolders, I'm dependent on the speed of
type-ahead because I use a chain of multiple letter and enter key strokes to
navigate through many folders in a second. If type-ahead would be replaced by
search, the speed of search results would depend on the folder's content size
and I would not be able to use my quick chain of key strokes anymore due to the
irregular response time of the search.
I admit, this is a rather subjective opinion as well! But type-ahead has been
there for years, it is also integrated into the file managers of OS X or
Windows and into the majority of the Linux ones. Your solution mentioned might
be an improvement for _some_ people. But that doesn't mean it should replace
type-ahead. It could be added as an optional feature that can be activated
within the settings. Linux software in general is about configuration &
customization - not about claiming you know what is best by forcing your
opinion on others and killing features. The latter is exactly what happened to
nautilus and why we have this long discussion here.

[Bug 1330850] [NEW] cannot enter text when started at desktop start with keychain and gpg

2014-06-17 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

Attempting to run keychain from my ~/.profile results in my being
prompted (successfully) for my ssh passphrase (using /usr/lib/openssh
/gnome-ssh-askpass). However, when prompted for my gpg passphrase via
pinentry (using /usr/bin/pinentry-qt4), I am unable to enter my
passphrase as the text box disallows text input.

The work-around is to switch to using the gtk2 version of pinentry:

[Bug 1329945] Re: WWAN signal strength is reported lower than android in same location

2014-06-17 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
AnandTech has comparison charts of how Android (2.2, at least) and iOS (4.0)
map signal strength to bars.

I had assumed that if the signal is strong enough to connect to a
carrier at all, it's strong enough for a phone call. Is that not the
case? And if it isn't, do we know where the cutoff is?

As for the Event Engine issue, that would probably be better if reported

[Bug 297792] Re: [Regression] Olympus LS10 internal disk in 8.10 don't automount

2014-06-17 Thread Thomas Kregelin
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and I have the same problem when I plug an
Olympus Digital Voice Recorder DS-5000.

The Voice Recorder has an internal memory of 1GB. Additionally the
recorder has an SD-Card Slot.

When I connect the recorder to my pc via usb with an additional SD-Card
inserted, syslog shows the above mentioned sense key errors. Neither
internal memory nor SD-Card is mounted via the automounter.

When I use the recorder without the external SD-Card, the automounter
correctly mounts the internal memory.

PS: When using the external SD-Card, I can mount both memory portions by
hand using the "mount -t vfat" command.

Both memory portions are formated as FAT16.

[Bug 1328183] Re: User-Agent string results in poor UX on web

2014-06-17 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Note that our default UA contains "Ubuntu 14.04 like Android 4.4", so
we’re not actually pretending to be Android, just hinting that we have
similar capabilities, which leaves the door open to content producers to
do a proper detection.

For comparison, Firefox OS chose a deliberately short and clean default
UA string (one that doesn’t pretend to be who it isn’t), and they’re
having to do a lot of (largely volunteer) work to try and evangelise
major websites to recognize their UA, while at the same time making
heavy use of the override mechanism to send a fake UA (that most of the
time contains an Android token anyway).

[Bug 1325578] Re: org.freedesktop.URfkill.Killswitch state property not updated correctly

2014-06-17 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
Will try to some logs today.
But please note that this bug is about URfkill.Killswitch objects, not Devices.

So the thing to verify and test is that the Killswitch states match what
urfkill list is telling:

dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.URfkill
/org/freedesktop/URfkill/WLAN org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get
string:org.freedesktop.URfkill.Killswitch string:state

dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.URfkill
/org/freedesktop/URfkill/WWAN org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get
string:org.freedesktop.URfkill.Killswitch string:state

dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.URfkill
/org/freedesktop/URfkill/BLUETOOTH org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get
string:org.freedesktop.URfkill.Killswitch string:state

And that urfkilld properly sends PropertiesChanged on these objects with
correct state values.

[Bug 1329945] Re: WWAN signal strength is reported lower than android in same location

2014-06-17 Thread Antti Kaijanmäki
This should really be handled on ofono side as it's specific to a single
modem tech.

Ofono reports the signal strength through org.ofono.NetworkRegistration
Strength property:

Service org.ofono
Interface org.ofono.NetworkRegistration
Object path [variable prefix]/{modem0,modem1,...}

Properties byte Strength [readonly, optional]

Contains the current signal strength as a percentage
between 0-100 percent.

[Bug 1224756] Re: Pulseaudio should integrate with trust-store

2014-06-17 Thread David Henningsson
So, I guess one could insert a check in the call to
command_create_record_stream (src/pulsecore/protocol-native.c), that would deny
access if trust-store says so.
However, there is still a way around that. Any app that can access the shm file
can potentially look at audio data currently streaming to *another* app, i e,
malicious app Eve can see what PulseAlice sends to the legitmate app Bob.
I'm not sure how much this SHM file is cleaned up (zeroed out) either, so there
is a possibility the shm file contains old recorded data too.

As for PulseAudio clients telling PulseAudio to access random files on
the file system, I don't think that's true, but I could have missed
something. Could you be more specific about where this functionality
lies and I'll have a closer look?

As for the LED, any app with access to both the LED and PulseAudio
should be able to do this.

[Bug 1330894] [NEW] "Value Propagate" dialog's "Propagating rate" spinbuttons are much too quick

2014-06-17 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

gimp 2.8.10-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 14.04

1. Select an area.
2. Choose "Filters" > "Distorts" [sic] > "Value Propagate...".
3. Using the spinbuttons, try to change "Propagating rate" to 0.50.

What happens: If you hold down the up spinbutton, the propagating rate
near-instantly changes to 1.00. If you hold down the down spinbutton,
the propagating rate near-instantly changes to 0.00. This makes the
spinbuttons pretty much useless.

What should happen: The spinbuttons change the value much more slowly.

The other fields in the dialog do not have the same problem.

[Bug 1330907] [NEW] lightdm control panel

2014-06-17 Thread Benitron
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When we want to skip or put back the password when starting the
computer, it seems that we have to go to etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and
add or erase the line autologin-user=

It doesn't seems to have the automatic-login button as it used to. (as
shown here, but with ubuntu http://askubuntu.com/questions/51086/how-
do-i-enable-auto-login-in-lightdm)

Xubuntu is a really good distribution and I think it is really nice not
to have to use the terminal if people don't want to.

But maybe I didn't find the right panel to use this option...

Thanks to every developper !

[Bug 1330908] [NEW] Opening dev tools leaves whole screen dark/black

2014-06-17 Thread Andy
Public bug reported:

When I fire up the dev tools in Chromium (no matter on which page),
something on Ubuntu crashes and my screen goes completely dark.

The whole screen, not only the window or the tab.

Even using Alt+Ctrl+F1 does not give me any screen signal. Maybe X is
crashing?

I can't tell if Chromium is still running, since I don't see anything.

I guess I see this issue ever since my upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04.

I have no idea on how to trace down what actually is happening.

I used the Chromium emulator before, so my mouse cursor turns into the
touch screen emulation circle. That's the last thing that changes before
my screens go black.

[Bug 1261723] Re: e1000e problem, system either reboots instead of power off or disables WOL

2014-06-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Cs-gon, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the
first line at the top page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1330917] [NEW] Cannot receive MMS in Sonera (Finland) network

2014-06-17 Thread Martti Piirainen
Public bug reported:

I cannot receive any MMS via the Sonera (Finland) operator. The attached
nuntium log contains two failed attempts, apparently the WAP content type is
not correctly decoded:
1. From a Jolla (Sailfish OS) device
2. From a Nokia C6 (Symbian OS) device
, both using the same Sonera (Finland) SIM card.

The receiving device also has a Sonera (Finland) SIM card, other info:
root@ubuntu-phablet:~# system-image-cli -i
current build number: 85
device name: mako
channel: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed
alias: ubuntu-touch/utopic-proposed
last update: 2014-06-17 05:43:06
version version: 85
version ubuntu: 20140617
version device: 20140530

For reference, I do not run into this "Unhandled push pdu" issue when
the receiving mako device has a Saunlahti (Finland) SIM card (and using
the same sending device & SIM).

2014-06-17 Thread Andy
** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

- When I fire up the dev tools in Chromium (no matter on which page),
- something on Ubuntu crashes and my screen goes completely dark.
+ When I fire up the dev tools in Chromium (no matter on which page) and
+ start the device emulator, something on Ubuntu crashes and my screen
+ goes completely dark.

The whole screen, not only the window or the tab.

Even using Alt+Ctrl+F1 does not give me any screen signal. Maybe X is
  crashing?

- I can't tell if Chromium is still running, since I don't see anything.
+ Chromium is probably still running, since sounds keep playing.

[Bug 1296288] Re: pcscd crashes when disconnecting / reconnecting USB device

2014-06-17 Thread Ralph Scharpf
No sorry. I also tried the latest version of the driver from http://www
.reiner-sct.com/. I assume that this bug comes actually from the libusb.
Since the reiner-sct driver is not so common I doubt that there would be
a respond when the bug is assigned to libusb. If you have an idea for an
more commen, alternate HW that is also addressed by a daemon via libusb
we should be able to verify the issue and create a report for libusb.

I have libusb only in use for the smart card reader and for a scanner.
The scanner is addressed by xsane and this locks/terminates when the
scanner is disconnected as sane is not well aware on a disconect of a
scanner.

Any suggestions?

[Bug 1330530] Re: Regression: Kernel 3.2.0-64 problems with USB3 controller

2014-06-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- This bug report is a follow-up to bug 1328984, describing a successful
- attempt to replicate that bug on another hardware. As advised, I am
- opening a new bug to avoid mixing information related to two hardware
- configurations.
-
- Conditions triggering this bug:
- As the original bug (1328984) was encountered on machines that are production
servers, I attempted to replicate in on another machine that could be entirely
devoted to testing this issue. I equipped this computer with the same USB3
hardware as the servers, that is the HighPoint RocketU 1144C USB 3.0 controller
and Areca ARC-5040 USB 3.0 RAID enclosure connected to it. I was able to
replicate the problem with ease, provided that all three following conditions
were met:
-
+ With a Dell Vostro 430, the HighPoint RocketU 1144C USB 3.0 controller, Areca
ARC-5040 USB 3.0 RAID enclosure connected to it, and the following conditions
are met:
  1. System booted kernel 3.2.0-64,
  2. HighPoint RocketU 1144C controller was installed,
  3. Areca ARC-5040 was connected to that controller.
+
+ An error loop during boot contains the following messages:
+ [ 34.084469] usb 8-1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
+ [ 34.101825] xhci_hcd :05:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with
disabled ep 88042102e000
+ [ 34.101918] xhci_hcd :05:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with
disabled ep 88042102e040
+ This continues for about 18 minutes, after which the filesystem on the Areca
drive is mounted, and boot process continues successfully, as if nothing had
happened. Afterwards the affected drive works seemingly fine, although I
experienced some system instability, causing a total system freeze. At this
point I am not sure if this instability is related to the problem at hand.
+
+ I've attached a file generated by apport-cli -f -p linux --save
+ filename.apport .

The problem did not appear if I booted an older kernel (e.g. 3.2.0-63),
or if Areca enclosure was not attached, or if it was attached using
another interface (USB2 or eSATA). The problem was also absent if I
replaced the Areca enclosure with another USB3 device (a flash drive).
The test machine's motherboard did not have a built-in USB3 controller,
but I performed an additional test on yet another computer, equipped
with a NEC USB3 controller. That test was done with kernel 3.2.0-64 and
the Areca enclosure, and did not replicate the problem. Thus I assume
that it is the combination of the RocketU controller and a specific USB3
- device that triggers kernel regression. In the original bug report
- (1328984) Bard Hemmer reported that he encountered a similar trouble
- with Western Digital My Passport 2TB USB 3.0 external drive. I happen
- to own this exact model, and I intend to test it as soon as possible.
-
- Symptoms:
- The symptoms on the test machine are somewhat different than those occurring
on the production servers. The error loop during boot contains the following
messages:
- [ 34.084469] usb 8-1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
- [ 34.101825] xhci_hcd :05:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with
disabled ep 88042102e000
- [ 34.101918] xhci_hcd :05:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with
disabled ep 88042102e040
- This continues for about 18 minutes, after which the filesystem on the Areca
drive is mounted, and boot process continues successfully, as if nothing had
happened. Afterwards the affected drive works seemingly fine, although I
experienced some system instability, causing a total system freeze. At this
point I am not sure if this instability is related to the problem at hand.
+ device that triggers kernel regression.

Similar effects happen if Areca enclosure is hot-plugged to the working
system. In such a case OS boots fine (as the enclosure is absent during
boot). After plugging the Areca, the drive is unavailable for 18
minutes, during which time numerous errors as above are logged. After 18
minutes elapse, drive is mounted and behaves normally.
-
- Hardware:
- Dell Vostro 430
- CPU: Intel Core i7-860
- RAM: 16GB DDR3 unbuffered non-ECC
- Add-on card: HighPoint RocketU 1144C 4-Port USB 3.0 PCIe 2.0 x4 HBA
-
- Software:
- Ubuntu 3.2.0-64.97-generic 3.2.59 x86_64
-
- Note about apport collection:
- Due to problems described in bug 1328984, relevant to this setup as well, I
am unable to run apport tools to submit system information. For this reason, I
am attaching a file generated by apport-cli -f -p linux --save filename.apport

Also affects me on my Samsung Ativ Book 9 when trying to scale up to
1.5. Have seen it many times over the past week while setting up the
ultrabook. Maybe a coincidence, but I notice the the font size
increase mostly after doing an install. This morning while setting up a
repository, update, install, reboot the font size went from 1.5 to 2.58.

[Bug 1330935] [NEW] Nautilus error when unmounting locations

2014-06-17 Thread Gabor Toth
Public bug reported:

I have opened remote server location with Nautilus and the opening and
handling worked all fine. Then I have unmounted the location by
clicking the "unmount" sign next to the location on the left tree panel.
The unmount worked fine, as expected, however when I moved the mouse it
was moving a folder that was under the mouse right after the unmount
like I would have grabbed that folder.

I did not grab the folder but by clicking on the unmount and after the
unmount got executed and the location disappeared from the tree view and
mouse grab was executed and even though I was not holding down any of
the mouse buttons it looked like I was grabbing one of the folders. By
hitting ESC I have cancelled the action and all went back to normal.

It can be reproduced every time on my system.

I have Ubuntu 14.04 installed (upgraded from 13:10) with all updates
installed and running on a Dell Inspiron 17R with 8GB RAM and a 120 GB
SSD.

[Bug 282638] Re: log_progress_msg overridden with empty function in /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh

2014-06-17 Thread Andrew
14.04 this time it's directly in /lib/lsb/init-functions.d/50-ubuntu-
logging

about line 86
log_progress_msg () {
:
}

It's so difficult to fix Canonical ?? If you want to use your function
call it from there then why is this ":" in body ??? to track how many
users will complain about this and do some statistics? Who you are
working for?

[Bug 1330935] Re: Nautilus error when unmounting locations

2014-06-17 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1330942] [NEW] Gimp does not open pdf

2014-06-17 Thread pvanb
Public bug reported:

Trying to open a pdf file gives the message (after selecting 'all
files'):

'/home/paulo/test.pdf' failed: Unknown file type

It is possible though to export an image as pdf.

This problem started in Ubuntu 13.10 (can't remember any
specific change or update in other packages other than the regular updates from
Ubuntu repositories) and persisted after a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04 and
Gimp.

Below the console output while opening a pdf file (from the command
line):

[Bug 1276061] Re: Progress of checking for updates is indeterminate

2014-06-17 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
>From Barry in bug 1272313:

The tricky part is that we won't know how many steps are involved ahead of
time. For example, let's say we have three of the four keys already when we
start the check. The first thing we do is download the blacklist, and if one
of the three keys is now on the blacklist, we'll have an extra step to
download a replacement. Also, it's possible that once we've downloaded the
first key, it might make subsequent key checks fail validation.

There's an upper limit to the number of things we have to download during the
check though, so we could just emit something like:

step 1 of 7
step 2 of 7
(steps 3-5 can be skipped so...)
step 6 of 7
step 7 of 7

It might make the display a bit jumpy, but it would be feasible without much
work. For backward compatibility we'd have to add new dbus signals for these
progress steps.

Public bug reported:

If I plug in a audio capable HDMI monitor, I used to change the audio output
