[Bug 1302620] Re: [FFe] Remove remotelinux plugin and its dependencies from the QtC package

2014-04-08 Thread Zoltan Balogh
The change is partially structural. The plan is to provide separate
source packages for the most used plugins. That will make the now huge
QtC easier to trace, debug and so maintain.

We did the same with the cmake plugin and the process of upstreaming our
changes are started.

The problem with upstreaming these changes is that Digia's contribution
intake process is slow and heavy. This change is the first step to prove
to the upstream that our contribution is viable.

So this separate remotelinux, cmake, etc plugin source package structure
is going to stay.

I do hope you merge back changes from the upstream config? MAAS makes a lot
of tweaks to them from time to time.

[Bug 1304207] Re: Boot fail: 'GLIBC_2.sN2' not found

2014-04-08 Thread dino99
** Description changed:

  Trusty i386 system

On that system, which have some old hardware : pata & sata hdds, ich7r
chip, i always have the first cold boot failing. Most of the time the
boot process try to repair some recursive issues itself, but always end
with something like " errors repaired but you need to reboot" or plenty
  code errors.

But this time i get what it seems the real issue:

  (verbose boot screen dialog)
  .
  nx-protecting the kernel data: 5780k
  loading , please wait ...
  /lib/systemd/systemd-udevd: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: libpthread.so.0:
version 'GLIBC_2.sN2' not found (required by /lib/i386-linux-gnu/librt.so.1)
  tsc: refined TSC clocksource calibration:

So the 'not found' can be a right issue, or that loading issue a race
- trouble (as i understand it)
+ trouble (as i understand it), or something related to the previous
+ shutdown not beeing done cleanly : as the second cold boot mainly
+ succeed (gnome-session).

[Bug 1304207] Re: Boot fail: 'GLIBC_2.sN2' not found

2014-04-08 Thread dino99
** Tags added: bot-stop-nagging

** Description changed:

  Trusty i386 system

On that system, which have some old hardware : pata & sata hdds, ich7r
chip, i always have the first cold boot failing. Most of the time the
boot process try to repair some recursive issues itself, but always end
with something like " errors repaired but you need to reboot" or plenty
  code errors.

But this time i get what it seems the real issue:

  (verbose boot screen dialog)
  .
  nx-protecting the kernel data: 5780k
  loading , please wait ...
  /lib/systemd/systemd-udevd: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: libpthread.so.0:
version 'GLIBC_2.sN2' not found (required by /lib/i386-linux-gnu/librt.so.1)
  tsc: refined TSC clocksource calibration:

So the 'not found' can be a right issue, or that loading issue a race
trouble (as i understand it), or something related to the previous
shutdown not beeing done cleanly : as the second cold boot mainly
  succeed (gnome-session).
+
+ nb: i am not sure about the package to blame, so it can be some other
+ package(s).

[Bug 1304219] [NEW] apport-collect should use python3-apport

2014-04-08 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

When python-apport is installed (and python3-apport also) and the gtkorphan is
ran, python-apport is listed as 'orphan'.
But when i need to run apport-collect, that package is needed: this should now
use directly python3-apport instead.

[Bug 1293425] Re: [Dell Vostro 3550] Display resolution keeps switching with external monitor connected

2014-04-08 Thread Goran Obal
Found a related bug IMHO:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1063658
With that one 'xinput disable x' was also workaround.
If you go and read that bug report, you can see that it really is about the
same thing, only that the user didn't use external monitor for a while and when
he did, he reported "If second monitor is plugged flickering of windows stops
and system starts to turn off and on both monitors with different resolutions."
- sounds like he's talking about the same thing to me.
Furthermore, he also uses Vostro 3550.

[Bug 1097286] Re: PortMIDI is compiled in debug mode which calls exit() instead of handling errors gracefully.

2014-04-08 Thread CaptainPlanet
Hi, I posted this bug about a year ago.

Just to inform everyone: The workaround at the wiki page worked for me.
So I don’t know if the acutal problem is solved but I got Hercules MP3
e2 running :-) .

http://mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/hercules_dj_control_mp3_e2

I’ve done what is described after the paragraph:

"If the device is still not visible as a separate entry under
“Controllers” you need to modify the device permissions using udev
rules. First create the rule file: "

Thanks everyone for help me out, trying to fix this and reporting it to
the portMidi developers... and of course for making this awesome piece
of software!

I could not install the kernel mentioned in #12; it is telling me a newer

[Bug 1286516] Re: [gen2 regression mesa ] Stellarium + Trusty 14.04: white screen

2014-04-08 Thread jdt37b
Diego Urbina,
Thank you for the info.
This is obviously the same problem with a 82865G card. Mesa version 9 is
incompatible with some applications (eg Stellarium) from Quantal 12.10 and
today 14.04 LTS Trusty (but GoogleEarth is ok).
The amendment was made in 2012 in version 8 mesa was corrected the same problem
that existed at launch LTS Precise.
But today, the 82865G card that was qualified by an expert in this forum of
"historical card" (... not to say "Jurassic Card") there is (alas) unlikely
that the same correction is made in mesa 9, unless we are likely to report the
problem.
Downgrade mesa 8.0.4 with Trusty is ok (eg Stellarium works), but it is already
beginning to pose problems of compatibility with Abiword is therefore only
temporary relief solution, still dream a correction mesa 9 !
Good day.

[Bug 1296281] Re: poor choice for browser icon

2014-04-08 Thread Rolf Leggewie
excuse me, but how hard is it to change this? The arguments given are
all obviously false.

First, I was told that the icon has been this way for a LOO
time. Well, the answer to exactly how long is still outstanding. It's
not been longer than the last LTS as far as I can see. Then, I'm being
told that the theme is no longer under active development. Well,
rmadison tells me that the package has seen a new release in EVERY
Ubuntu release all the way back to lucid. Then I'm being told to remove
symlinks that don't even exist.

So, to summarize again. I think it's a bad idea to include a pointer in
that picture. What's so incredibly impossible to just remove it and
have a better experience for everyone?

[Bug 1304239] [NEW] Invalidated regions not being consistently repainted on Quadro K600

Using nouveau as shipped in Ubuntu 14.04 Final Beta 64-bit (both on the
live installation media and on the actual instealled system) with Nvidia
Quadro K600, invalidated regions are not consistently repainted. For
example, the mouse cursor can leave a trail for a moment or background
color changes in Firefox don't show until e.g. the mouse cursor moving
over the area forces an update.

[Bug 1296281] Re: poor choice for browser icon

2014-04-08 Thread Rolf Leggewie
By the way, the reason that maybe upstream is using the icon
successfully without user confusion might be (speculating here) that
they usually do not use it as part of a fixed point on the screen. It
would be much less confusing for example if this was only visible when
you alt-tab etc. Unless you have the left unity side-bar set to auto-
hide this pointer is very visible there and in the place where unity
WANTS most of the mouse pointer action to happen. So, again, IMNSHO it
will easily confuse users who search for the pointer first in that area.

[Bug 1299134] Re: grub-installer failed during install trusty 64bit

2014-04-08 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
@psusi, this is a very valid issue and I could reproduce it on an Asus
UX32VD with UEFI. On this machine, there is no way in the system setup
to select between UEFI or BIOS.

If I boot a 32 bit image from an USB stick, it will boot in BIOS mode.
Installation is successful and the EFI partition is not created.
If I boot a 64bit image, it will boot in EFI mode. If a 32bit OS is already
installed and I choose a side-by-side installation then there is no warning,
EFI partition is not created and the installer crashes with this bug. This is
the issue I reported in bug 1302418.

I'm reopening this issue and set it to critical given the number of
reports already received.

[Bug 1304246] [NEW] Reboot hangs with Dell computers on 64 bits

Public bug reported:

On xubuntu 12.04.3 64 bits, with Dell computer (7010 and some other

I had same problem on 32 bits 12.04, but solved by adding "acpi=force
reboot=pci" in /etc/default/grub
Here, on 64 bits, tried that and didn't work.

I also tried every other reboot parameter, without success.

[Bug 1204919] Re: 4.10.1 version affects session autosave so it couldn't be switched off

2014-04-08 Thread Matthieu Marechal
I have xubuntu version 12.04.
In the xfce4-session file of xfconf
(~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml)
there are two similarly named settings:

and

xfce4-settings-manager changes the first,
but only the second setting seems to have an effect
(at least on shutdown).
(I used the xfce4-settings-editor to unset the SaveOnExit
setting and now my session is no longer saved on shutdown.)

[Bug 1304248] [NEW] [PATCH] Crash with deleted QQmlCompiledData

2014-04-08 Thread Albert Astals Cid

I was told by upstream that we should have a look at https://codereview

https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-37834

I have verified that indeed our 5.2 packages crash with the said example
and doesn't crash anymore if run with the patch.

[Bug 1304249] [NEW] Nautilus fails handling the desktop After upgrading to 13.10

2014-04-08 Thread kenn
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to 13.10 last week, since then whenever wallpaper switches, desktop
icons disappear. I use Wally desktop switcher.
That began to happen after I upgraded to 13.10. Nautilus version now is 3.8.2.
I read that drawing the desktop dropped from nautilus and that feature is
provided by a patch in recent versions. I suspect that it's related to patch.
Would anybody test it with wally wallpaper switcher and post the result?

[Bug 1302418] Re: grub-installer should fall back to grub-pc instead of grub-efi when there is no EFI system partition

2014-04-08 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
** Also affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu Trusty)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Canonical Foundations Team
(canonical-foundations)

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Importance: Undecided => Critical

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Description changed:

During a side-by-side installation, the EFI partition is not created..
If it doesn't already exist (which given recent bug reports seems to be
the case on systems with MS Windows installed), installation fails at
  grub stage.

  TEST CASE:
+ Note: This test case simulates in qemu the behavior found on real HW eg. bug
1299134
+
  1. Install trusty in BIOS mode

  $ qemu-img create -f qcow2 /tmp/disk.img 16G
  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm \
  -drive file=/tmp/disk.img,if=ide,media=disk \
  -pflash /tmp/bios.bin \
  -cdrom $ISO

  2. Reboot
  3. Reuse the same disk and Install trusty in UEFI mode for example start qemu
with the option -pflash=/tmp/ovmf.bin and the binary file attached to this bug
report.

  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm \
  -drive file=/tmp/disk.img,if=ide,media=disk \
  -pflash /tmp/bios.bin \
  -cdrom $ISO

  4. Proceed to the partitioner and select a side-by-side installation
  5. Proceed with the rest of the installation

  ACTUAL RESULT:
  This crash

  EXPECTED RESULT:
There are several ways to address this issue, I see 2 options there are
probably more:
  1. Warn the user and refuse to proceed past the partitioner
  2. Create an EFI partition like the entire disk installation does.

2014-04-08 Thread Colin Allinson
This may not have been a burning issue in the past but, with Win XP
going unsupported, there are many Celeron/Pentium M processor systems
(concurrent with Win XP). that are now looking for easy solutions. I am
in exactly that position and have never touched any flavour of Linux
before. I needed something reasonably well packaged without a huge
learning curve up front.

I tried various other flavours of Linux (including Lubuntu 12.04) and
none of them really floated my boat but then I found the nonpae 12.04
desktop build mentioned by Dave Henningsson in reply #84 and that is
exactly what an ignorant exile from Win XP was looking for. Easy to
install, well packaged, no learning of command line fiddles and easy to
use for a Linux first timer. Thanks Dave.

If it was that easy without searching then I guess more ex XP users
would migrate rather than give up and go away.

Incidentally - Dave said he hadn't fully tested this build - I have
given it quite a bending and have found no problems so far.

[Bug 1287736] Re: System Settings -> Accounts and back shows black screen and 5s delay

2014-04-08 Thread Gerry Boland
Right now unity-mir has a one-to-one connection between a Session and a
Surface (legacy design decision that we'll move away from). It has also
made the assumption that focus only needs to be shifted on Session
closure, not Surface. Both these combine to exhibit this problem.

Some minor refactoring of unity-mir would solve this issue.

[Bug 1301785] Re: wrong keymap after login

2014-04-08 Thread Elbarbudo
Seems to be a side effect of the upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 : The first
account has been set up in 13.10 and I upgraded, keeping the home
directory.

A new account created on 14.04 does not have this behavior.

Thank you for your bug report. The indicator is supposed to be red if you are

We had another report stating that java apps are creating issues, do you use

[Bug 1271183] Re: ipv6 host key not added with non-default port

2014-04-08 Thread nytral
Thanks for the thorough investigation. Simply removing the IPv4 entry
and connecting with v6 does the trick! And no need to drop interfaces,
just using -4 works for me. It's still a bug though (different behavior
depending on v4/v6), will it be pushed upstream?

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1302436] Re: cgmanager saturates one core

2014-04-08 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I cannot reliably reproduce this problem and do not really have any idea
what might be triggering it. Maybe it's situations where resources
(CPU, HD) are tight. While I have come across it a couple of times in
the past I have yet to experience it again after reporting this ticket.

I have lxc installed but do not actively use it.

The content of the file you requested is not time-stamped, so I don't
know if what's in there has anything to do with what I reported here.
It might be from a completely different time. OK, here it is.

[Bug 1304257] [NEW] There should be a quit signal sent to sessions instead of killing them directly

2014-04-08 Thread Michał Sawicz
Public bug reported:

The task manager currently kills (upstart-stops) the apps upon the user
requesting it to stop. It should send a quit signal instead (and SIGCONT
it first, if stopped), so that the app can shut down gracefully.

A method to forcefully quit the app is needed, too, if it's not
responding (or maybe even just timeout-based).
