[Bug 1241378] [NEW] File descriptor leaked on pvscan invocation

2013-10-18 Thread latimerio
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS on my server an I have a ksh script which
gathers system information.
It is invoked by cron.daily.
Recently I added the following lines:

  pvscan | grep "^ *PV " \
 | perl -ne 's/[\n\r]*$// ; s/[\[\]]//g ;
 @Line=split() ;
 printf( "%2s %-10s %2s %-8s %4s %6.2f %3s %s %6.2f
%4s\n", @Line ) ;
  '

Since then I get the error message below from cron.daily:
File descriptor 3 (/) leaked on pvscan invocation. Parent PID :
/usr/bin/ksh

I do not get the message if I run the script manually from a shell or
from a regular cron.

I tried to set LVM_SUPPRESS_FD_WARNINGS=1 as described in debian bugs
432986, 466138 and 534220 but nothing changed.

It seems that nobody really addressed this rather old LVM issue.

I could not find a reference to "idle" in the man page.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-18 Thread eldad
(1)
I found that in dconf-editor
-> desktop -> ibus -> general -> hotkey
both next-engine & next-engine-in-menu are set by default to 'Alt+Shift_L'
I do not know whether this is related or not.

(2)
Switching the language indicator (using the mouse) to my other language
(Hebrew) allows me to switch between hebrew and english using Alt+Shift
(defined in dconf: org -> gnome -> desktop - > input-sources -> xkb-options
['grp:alt_shift_toggle']
Unfortunately, I have to do this for each window separately, that is, if the
indicator shows "En", I will not be able to switch language using the Alt+Shift.

(3)
I agree with the previous post - I do not see the point in this change from
previous behaviour. The system is less usable than before (unless I am missing
something). I wish to have simple way to choose the shortkey for language
switching and that the indicator would follow.

[Bug 958661] Re: bluetooth suddenly rejects all transfers (worked yesterday)

2013-10-18 Thread matteo sisti sette
Now, fresh install of Ubuntu 13.04 on another computer.
Systematically rejects ALL bluetooth transfers.
Turning physically off and on bluetooth/wireless doesn't fix the issue (unless
it only turns off wifi, in which case the workaround is simply not available
for some machines).

For god's sake, when is this going to be addressed?

[Bug 1241386] [NEW] L2TP establishes connection (logged on firewall), then client gives up

2013-10-18 Thread AndreK
Public bug reported:

According to FW (Fortigate), the connection is established and IP provided - no
problem is logged there.
The L2TP client fails, and "closes connection" 1 sec later.

The same configuration worked fine before 13.10.

Here's the log, (only IP modified)
Please say so if I can help testing this problem.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-18 Thread ssy
- Super-Space is NOT working at all. This is quite a surprise. Changing
key is one thing, but default key isn't working is so simple a bug that
shouldn't be let out to the wild.

- I'm using En-Th layout which previously use Alt-Shift as layout switcher.
- After PPA update, I could set the Alt-Shift-Next-group as hotkey but it's
not working.
   - Ctrl-shift works for me for both layout. Anyway it overrides with Terminal
hotkey Ctrl-Shift-T so I opt not to use it.
   - If I switch th Th layout, the alt-shift back to work again (despite the
fact that I set the layout switch hotkey to F9, weird?), but the indicator
still on Th although I am typing in En.

[Bug 1239807] Re: "hp-setup -i" needs better documentation

2013-10-18 Thread Till Kamppeter
To the HP developers at HP:

The problem here is that "gksudo hp-setup -i" (or "gksudo hp-setup" in
case of Qt4 not installed) does not work. The user has to run "hp-setup
-i" so that hp-setup runs as normal user and asks for the password for
administrative tasks when needed. Most users do not know that. Also the
Qt4 warning message can be irritating to some users. Also in "-1" mode
the password prompt is a GUI dialog popping up.

My suggestions:

1. If Qt4 is not installed, simply run in "-i" (interactive mode), without
warning message.
2. Make hp-setup with gksudo (or similar) working or let it give a clear
message that the user has to run it without gksudo.
3. Make sure that the password prompt always works, ask for the password in
text mode if no GUI utility/toolkit for popping up a password dialog is
available. Especially hp-setup should also work on a pure text console (like
SSHing into a server).

[Bug 1241409] [NEW] Shows corrupt screen - Freezed Latop

2013-10-18 Thread Harag
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo B590 laptop that crashed occationally with a scrambled
screen on 13.04 but since I upgraded to 13.10 it crashes a couple of
times a day and needs to be hard reset or left for a while to reboot on
its own.

This error occurs periodically in various application and until now I
could not see a pattern, but I recently started using teamspeak3 and
with that application I get at least 3 crashes per hour, a lot of times
a lot more.

(As far as I can see the bios is up to date, I downloaded the latest
bios update from the lenovo website and when I run it it actually warns
me that it would downlevel the bios if I run the update program so I
assume that means the version on the laptop is newer.)

The only proprietry driver used on the laptop is the Broadcom Wireless

[Bug 1241388] Re: Won't boot anymore

2013-10-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1241388/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

@smoser, I just tested your most recent fix to simplestreams (revision

Until a package with the fix is published, this can be fixed manually:
$ sudo su

[Bug 1076232] Re: Build with tracker support

2013-10-18 Thread Dawid Lorenz
The issue with files not being searchable in the Activities Overview
(unless they are placed directly in Home folder) is present in 13.10.
Upgrading packages from gnome3-ppa doesn't help either, despite enabling
"Files" search provider in the Search Settings applet. However,
recursive searching files across folders is perfectly possible in the
Nautilus window itself. Just not in the Activities Overview.

Compiling Nautilus by hand (as per instruction in the comment #1 above)
fails. My current version of Nautilus is 1:3.8.2-0ubuntu2.

Since the tracker-search 3rd party extension
(https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/284/tracker-search/) is not
compatible with 3.8 and aforementioned bug is still in place, I reckon
being unable to search for files quickly straight in the Activities
Overview is a major regression.

[Bug 1229686] Re: No video output at all when booting 13.10 on Asus Zenbook UX31A

2013-10-18 Thread Devon Cooke
I have what I believe is the same bug affecting an ASUS UX32VD.

I have also been unable to figure out what logs to post, but the system
appears to boot normally with no video output.

I believe it is the same Kernel bug as is reported for ArchLinux here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167463, as the symptoms sound
the same and the suggested workaround is effective.

I am able to successfully boot the most recent 3.8 kernel with Ubuntu
13.10 installed, but the default 3.11 kernel does not appear to work.

Workaround:

Switch to CSM mode in BIOS, thus avoiding UEFI boot.

Hi,

ok confusion cleared :-)
actually i only have this issue with windows guests. linux guests do not
show a high cpu usage after suspend resume.
so are there any recommendations you would have to work around it ?

regards,

Tobias.

[Bug 1241419] [NEW] Installing Ubuntu SDK requires CD

2013-10-18 Thread Mike Student
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 (2013.10.17), upon installing Ubuntu SDK I get an
error, that I need to mount the Ubuntu CD in /media/cdrom, while if I
insert the CD, it is mounted under /media/usr. You have 2 choices:
Continue or Cancel. Both end up in a loop, where the same dialog
returns, regardless of what you choose. After some Clicks, about 5-10
varying, the Dialog disapeared.

I needed to manually unmount the CD, and then mount it under the
location /media/cdrom, which wasnt there beforehand. To a starter this
would be the end of the journey to Ubuntu sdk and their own apps..

Pls make the Software Center search for the location of a CD or anything
since (it looks like) its not fixed, where it mounts.

And then again - I tried to install just the PLugins from the launchpad
side, but even that gave me the same Dialog "you need the ubuntu CD".
Why?! Just let me download it from somewhere.

[Bug 1223730] Re: mDNS failure with openvswitch 1.10

2013-10-18 Thread NightShade
Ah sorry, I had updated to the latest OVS version from saucy by enabling
the saucy repos and just updating relevant libvirt and OVS packages.

The show command I included was run on 1.9 after I downgraded again to
get printing working (printers found via mDNS)

I've looked at the packets on the raw port with tcpdump and the mDNS
packets are definitely getting to the port but not to the host machine.

I'll try upgrading the machine to the current saucy packages and report
back in a few days.

[Bug 1239807] Re: "hp-setup -i" should be more user-friendly

Hi TIll,

Thank you for the information. HPLIP-3.13.9 release has fix for "hp-
setup -i" is looking for Password dialog instead of interactive mode.

3.13.9 release contains both "hp-setup changing to interactive mode" and
"password in text console" of your suggestion.
Regarding gksu 'hp-setup -i' warning message, needs to look into this.

Hi Kevin O'Gorman,

Please install latest HPLIP-3.13.10 from http://hplipopensource.com
