[Bug 1175907] [NEW] Taps continue even after tapping is disabled

2013-05-03 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

The built-in mouse configuration application in Lubuntu 13.04 didn't
seem to permit configuration of tapping, disable-while-typing or palm
detection.

I therefore installed gpointing-device-settings which seemed to have
these configuration options.

Unfortunately, even when tapping is disabled using the checkbox, taps
are still generated by my touchpad. I suspect also that the disable-
while-typing/palm detection behaviour is also not operating when
selected, although this is a bit harder to tell.

[Bug 1175910] [NEW] ubuntu does not finish booting to login

2013-05-03 Thread Martin Wolf
Public bug reported:

im running ubuntu 13.04 and since i installed the latest fglrx drivers (13.4)
(i compiled them myself according to this guide:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Raring_Installation_Guide#Installing_Catalyst_Manually_.28from_AMD.2FATI.27s_site.29_BETA.2FEXPERIMENTAL)

on nearly every second boot im not getting to the login screen.
when i press ctrl + alt + delete xorg failsafe is going to be loaded
but then the system hangs fully and i need to do a reset.

i will attach a "normal boot" "hang" xorg.log and the failsafe log.

the videocard is an amd 7870.

[Bug 1174335] Re: Second external monitor (over display port) not working anymore

2013-05-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
I'm not sure if the numbering should be stable or not, but it feels like
the display capplet should not rely on them. Closing for the driver
though unless otherwise proven.

[Bug 1175748] Re: displays only mirrored

2013-05-03 Thread Pavel Francírek
I first tried KDE config. Than xfce4 (even with dev ppa display-config
based on article http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-to-use-multiple-
monitors-in-xubuntu.html). Both didnt work. Finally i was able to
change this settings in Gnome. Frankly, I am little bit confused what
had those two windows managers in common and why Gnome worked.

[Bug 1132584] Re: cedarview-drm kernel module fails to build on kernel 3.5.x [error: implicit declaration of function 'do_mmap']

2013-05-03 Thread Aztek
As it seems nobody is too interested in this driver and gpu anymore.

I would like to share some experience though for those who might need
it.

Apart from all the above information, even though the video is reported
incorrectly as gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (llvm 0x300) the 2d acceleration works
ALMOST satisfactory under Ubuntu 12.04 (with older generic kernels).
Some videos drop frames. I suppose the reason is difference in the support for
different codecs.

Youtube works very bad. Same for vimeo.
However youtube is quite OK if played through VLC player with the help of
Youtube video and playlist importer -
http://addons.videolan.org/content/show.php/+Youtube+playlist+importer?content=149909.

My overall opinion is that intel d2700dc board with (I believe) GMA 3650 GPU
is NOT a good board if you plan to use it as video playing device under linux.
As the hardware is not in production anymore this is unlikely to change.

For all of you who think that the traditionally good Intel linux support
warrants flawless performance under Ubuntu and there is no need to check if the
specific hardware is well supported - think again :)
I did this mistake and won't repeat it for any manufacturer from now on.

It is a bit sad that after all these years and the progress linux made
both in terms of usability for the ordinary user and popularity, the
driver support for big number of hardware is sub par.

I installed grub from an older 12.04 release and then used grub to boot
the 13.04 USB stick. The DVD can also be booted properly using grub. So
the problem is related to the BIOS of this computer.

[Bug 1175869] Re: coding error can lead to connections going to localhost rather than desired system

2013-05-03 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Ideally this bug would be fixed upstream, and we could cherry-pick the
patch if necessary, until it filters through in a new release.

I have tried to submit this bug upstream, but have not been able to find
an upstream bug tracker. I have tried to contact the author through the
web form, but am not sure if he's got the message.

[Bug 1132584] Re: cedarview-drm kernel module fails to build on kernel 3.5.x [error: implicit declaration of function 'do_mmap']

2013-05-03 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
@Aztek:
1. "gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe" is correct. Since this GPU lacks 3D hardware
accel, it uses llvmpipe.

2. Playing video with the Flash plugin (youtube) takes a lot of CPU
power no matter which GPU you're using. As you've discovered, it's best
to use a native Linux video player to work around the issue.

3. GMA 500/600 and 3600/3650 are terrible GPU's for Linux. You should
have done more research before making your purchase. Simply buying
something because of the brand/logo in it is a bad idea, whether it's a
computer or a car.

[Bug 1175922] [NEW] Multiple graphical artifacts

2013-05-03 Thread Joscha Finger
Public bug reported:

I've just upgraded my Toshiba Tecra 2.4 GHz laptop with NVidia chipset
to Ubuntu 13.04, and I've been experiencing a number of graphics issues
since:

-> Dash background: Unless I don't open anything before my first access
to the Dash, the background of the same becomes messy, with bits and
pieces of previously opened windows. This also happens when the programs
to which these fragments belong have been closed for a while. The
transparency is set to Static, but in Active it was even worse.

-> Desktop: After playing a video, and sometimes (unpredictably, it
seems) after running other apps, the desktop background/wallpaper is
drowned out by, once more, bits and pieces of whatever has been running
and/or white squares and rectangles; launcher icons become indistinct
and the surface pretty much useless. Animations are Off -with them, it
was even worse. Launcher Transparency is also Off.

I haven't been able to sort it out by changing configuration usin Unity
Tweaks and CCSM; to me it looks as if Raring can't handle my graphics
chipset -Ubuntu 12.04 had no touble at all with it.

Any suggestions as to what I can do?

Thanks so much for your replies, J

Another thing i did i made myself a user, perhaps there was a permissions

I will mount and check the petsistence file. Will report back.

[Bug 1175938] [NEW] Lightdm fails to display login screen

2013-05-03 Thread sally
Public bug reported:

This problem started after upgrading Ubuntu 12.10 which worked fine to Ubuntu
13.04. After booting, my Dell inspiron 1420 reaches an all purple screen
without login. Ctrl-Alt-F1 gives a purple screen with
blinking cursor and the words "starting up" Ctrl-Alt-F2 yields a console
terminal where I can access unity with "startx". I needed
to update the Nvidia driver to 319 for "startx" to work.
The /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log is the following:

I have tried reinstalling lightdm, gdm, ubuntu-desktop, and xserver-xorg as
well as editing the /etc/init/lightdm.
Occasionally one of these changes has caused the login to work once but break
on the following reboot. This
bug is similar but not identical to other reported lightdm bugs. Thank you for
your help.

[Bug 459752] Re: Qt Creator high CPU usage

2013-05-03 Thread Sasa Paporovic
So than,

on Ubuntu this is already set to fixed, also on arch linux(which is a
rolling release linux and with this more to the latest packages). On
Debian this issue might be still relevant for the stable release.

So, I let the report in the state as it is. It will be automatically
close if the Debian reports is closed.

The Debian maintainer is informed by E-mail from me of the resolved
status of the issue in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1175944] [NEW] getstream quits with SIGABRT when ANY of the tuners loses signal

2013-05-03 Thread MMlosh
Public bug reported:

I am running getstream on 4 usb tuners (one instance for all)

When any of the tuners loses signal, getstream aborts with SIGABRT.
That, obviously, interrupts all streams, even those streamed from good tuners.

I found an important information in the changelog:
"
I added a guardian thread which basically monitors if the libevent loop in the
main program is still triggering events. If not we'll send a SIGABRT and when
you are lucky and have set a core ulimit we'll have something to debug
afterwards.
"

This has been happening across quite a few gestream and ubuntu versions
The current version originates from Quantal, (20081204-1ubuntu4)

Note: I am running it on ARM, not x86
