Run terminal and press f11 to maximize it. The shadow is visible.
However, if you maximize the terminal window first and then f11 for
fullscreen, the shadow is missing and everything is fine.

[Bug 864615] Re: Thumbnailers are missing in gconf

2013-04-29 Thread MestreLion
Shouldn't this import be the other way around? AFAIK, Gnome 3 uses
/usr/share/thumbnailers/*.thumbnailer files to implement external
handlers, NOT gsettings. The gconf2 was the Gnome 2 (ie, Natty and
before) way of registering external thumbnailers.

[Bug 1174188] [NEW] Unable to connect with Ethernet connection while on battery (Laptop)

Hi all,

This is little wierd, i found in new release in ubuntu 13.04 - 64bit
Desktop on Dell Latitude E6230 that is network manager behaviour.

There is problem what i found in new release. When i install it and

[Bug 1173527] Re: make the i386 *buntu version check for UEFI

2013-04-29 Thread sudodus
The problem is that a person who is trying Ubuntu might just discard it
saying "Ubuntu doesn't work on this computer", when the solution is
simply to select the 64-bit version instead of the 32-bit version.

Do you mean that the 32-bit Ubuntu systems will be completely locked
out, so that they won't even be allowed to write a message 'to select
the 64-bit system instead' before quitting? Would it be necessary to
have Microsoft's signature for it to boot? And would that cost too much
(money or disk space (the CD limit))?

[Bug 1142213] Re: emacs23/24 GUI does not start when run in Kubuntu 13.04 with oxygen-gtk theme enabled

2013-04-29 Thread Olof Staffans
I've got the same problems (see Bug 1173857).

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I change the theme from oxygen to
something else?

I just did some testing to se what causes emacs23 to hang:

- If I start emacs from a terminal, then it most of the time does to open a new
window.
- emacs -nw from a terminal works fine (as also noticed above)
- If I start emacs from the kubuntu menu, then it (almost) always starts, and
does not hang immiately. After that there are many things that I can do before
Emacs hangs, such as:

- compose an E-mail message (using M-X mail). It hangs only when I try to send
the mail (using Ctl-C).
- Write some text in the scratch-window, and save it to the disk.
- I can edit some more, and do a "recover file" to get back what I saved
earlier, and it still works fine.
- Many of the the help menues under Ctl-H work fine. However, Ctl-H r makes it
hang. After that I have to wait some time before it again starts properly.
- The window splitting commands work fine.

However, there are certain commands that always make Emacs hang:

- Find file (Ctl-X Ctl-F)
- Visit File (Ctl-X Ctl-V)
- Dired
- Sending of Mail
- Ctl-H r (Display the Emacs manual in Info mode.)

Supported appmenu-gtk from precise-updates and above (uses new file
place - see #91). Tested on Raring i386 and x86_64.

>> Olof Staffans (olof-staffans) wrote 22 minutes ago:
>> Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I change the theme from oxygen to
>> something else?

Go into the KDE System settings.
Then click "Application Appearance" under the "Common Appearance and Behavior"
Then click GTK.

I changed the GTK2 theme to Raleigh and the GTK3 to Emacs. I'm not sure
which of the two was required but Emacs now works for me.

BTW I noticed that emacs-snapshot didn't have this problem.

[Bug 1072270] Re: ntfs-3g "Transport endpoint is not connected", fuse implicated

2013-04-29 Thread Lixin Chin
To everyone looking for a "quick fix" to this issue:

Grab the packages 'fuse' and 'libfuse2' from the debian package archive.
Get the package for your appropriate architecture (probably amd64 if
you're using 64-bit, else i386).

http://packages.debian.org/sid/libfuse2
http://packages.debian.org/sid/fuse

I've been using versions 2.9.2-2, but the latest appears to be 2.9.2-4,
not sure what's changed, but it's probably minor.

Install both packages "sudo dpkg -i ..."

Reboot, and you should be good to go. I've had no problems since
installing 2.9.2 back in February, and I've used my ntfs filesystem on a
daily basis since then.

Disappointing that 13.04 was allowed to release with such a glaring bug
still present.

[Bug 1174201] [NEW] maximized windows are moved between monitors when switching to them

Public bug reported:

On dual monitor setup, when I switch to window maximized on the left

This behaviour appeared after upgrading from quantal to raring.

[Bug 1174112] Re: qtcreator slow start

2013-04-29 Thread Sergey Shambir
I can confirm this bug. For some reason QProcess hungs and always
destroyed by timeout; of course, IDE becomes unusable because QProcess
required to configure compilers & qmake.

Problem not appear anymore for me after uninstalling KDE. Probably it
can be reproduced by installing as many KDE packages as possible.

[Bug 1174158] Re: Nginx fails to start on 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread shrinath_m2
@davidbennett, nginx-full doesn't help with lua scripting. There are
many other things that come with extras, but not with "full".

** Description changed:

- `nginx -t` gives the following error message -
- `nginx: [alert] version 1.2.6 (Ubuntu) of nginx.pm is required, but 1.2.6 was
found`
+ Update - Problem is with nginx-extras package only. Nginx-full or any
+ other package doesn't have this problem.
+
+ `nginx -t` gives the following error message -
+ `nginx: [alert] version 1.2.6 (Ubuntu) of nginx.pm is required, but 1.2.6 was

Fails to start, doesn't give any error message on `service nginx
  restart`.

[Bug 1168188] Re: black screen on lenovo g580 and ubuntu 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread Bill Kendrick
I just upgraded from Kubuntu 12.10 to 13.04, and have been struck by
this. Unless I attach my external monitor (via HDMI) during boot, my
laptop's LCD goes blank after showing the "Kubuntu" logo for a few
seconds. I know it's getting to the KDM login screen, since if I move my
mouse down+right, then click, the system powers down. (The shutdown
button is at the extreme bottom right.)

Attached is the output of 'intel_reg_dumper' on my system, after
successfully logging in (booting with monitor attached).

So with sudo htop, I removed all daemon/programs connected to

I restart empathy and it works :-)
Perhaps gnome-keyring-daemon ?

Thank you

[Bug 1115998] Re: Wireless cutting out after a few min of use in 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread Phil Elvey
Hi Everyone,
I have a Samsung 530U laptop and this is affecting me also with Ubuntu 13.04,
all updates installed as of today (28th April).
I experience the same thing - wireless disconnects after about 3-7 mins (timing
varies), and the only way to get it to reconnect is to reboot.
I am just wondering what the progress is on getting this resolved? It seems to
me to be a pretty serious issue, despite only being marked as medium priority.
Basically I cannot use my laptop with Ubuntu in this state, and there must be a
number of other people in this same situation.

If there is anything I can do or provide to help resolve this faster,
please let me know (please be specific as I am not too tech-savy -
thanks).

Phil

[Bug 1161088] Re: Computer freezes shortly (GUI) and sometimes freezes completely

I switched to Debian wheezy (based on kernel 3.2.0) and the problems seem to
have gone.
(No freezes, no dubious hangcheck messages in dmesg, ...so far)

[Bug 1173826] Re: wireless card problem rtl8192se autodisconnects after a few minutes

2013-04-29 Thread pspencil
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected raring

** Description changed:

I am using wireless card rtl8192se. The official site of realtek
provided a driver that supports kernel up to 3.2.x but recently i
upgraded to 13.04 so i cannot use it.

Initially the driver in the kernel works find but after a while it start
  disconnecting after a few minutes.

The signal strength shown in the panel drops from 4/5 to 2 yet if I
click open the menu, the strength remains. In the same time, network
slows down drastically (from 100+kb/s to 100b/s). Only if i disconnect
and reconnect will it start to work. but after a few minutes, it appears
  again.

This is not a new problem, but I cannot find a solution to that,
  especially with kernel 3.8.x.

Previously I switched from 12.10 to 12.04LTS also because of this
  problem.

- PS: Please NOTE: it is not a consistent disconnection. It is somewhat
- like a unstable network. You do not know when it would happen, but it
- just happens, and indeed happens. Sometimes the time interval is <5min.
- Sometimes >1h.

[Bug 1174208] [NEW] Empathy shows no contacts in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread Denny Crane
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.04

apt-cache policy empathy
empathy:
  Installiert: 3.6.4-0ubuntu4
  Installationskandidat: 3.6.4-0ubuntu4
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 3.6.4-0ubuntu4 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I made a an upgrade von Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04. The upgrade process
showed me no errors.

Now it happens that Empathy crashes sometimes directly after booting.
If it stays alive it doesn't show me any contacts but I can reseave messages
and answer to them.

What I tried with no or no permanent effect :
 - apt-get remove empathy --purge && apt-get install empathy -y
 - service lightdm restart
 - rebooting

[Bug 1174211] [NEW] Mouse settings are missing for wireless mice in Ubuntu 13.04

2013-04-29 Thread Lisa Schmidt
Public bug reported:

When I have a wireless mouse attached, the mouse settings ("Pointer
Speed") do not show up in the "Mouse & Touchpad" settings, only those
for Touchpad. Only when I have a corded mouse attached, the Pointer
Speed setting shows up. Furthermore, the "Acceleration" setting is
always completely missing, for both the Touchpad and the Mouse setting.
I tested this with different mice, corded and cordless. The Pointer
Speed setting for wireless mice is always missing. I also tested this
with a Live system and the problem is there as well.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: acceleration mouse pointer settings speed touchpad

[Bug 930447] Re: Unable to start Ubuntu 12.04 live CD with syslinux loader on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to bug in PAE kernel, initramfs or syslinux

2013-04-29 Thread sudodus
Now, that we have launched Raring, it's time to start thinking about the
future of the Ubuntu family.

One thing that I hope we can achieve, is to make the next version able
to cooperate with Pentium M, that has no pae flag, but still the ability
to run i686-pae kernels of *ubuntu.

I have verified that it works for me in an IBM Thinkpad T42 to use the
fake-pae method for Pentium M CPUs by 7bit according to this link

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2113826

This is good, but it would be great if this feature could be included in
*ubuntu, so that people can install a new version directly, and avoid
installing 12.04, add the fake-pae and upgrade to newer versions.

I'm prepared to use my Thinkpad for testing, but I don't know enough to
find and change the code.

Maybe I can even try to compile the crucial package(s), if someone can
hold my hands until I get the tools installed to do it (compilers,
makefiles, source code packages etc.)

The fake-pae fix in the ubuntuforums thread is not for everyone,
but I think it would be fairly easy to enter some logic to make a
difference between the Pentium M CPUs, that support pae, and the other
non-pae CPUs. I can make such logic statements, but I need help to find
where to put them.

By the way, I think most if not all of the computers without pae, that are
useful for
anything but 'retro playing', are laptops with Pentium M. And, I think
the objective of this task is not to stuff those old computers with more than 2
GB of RAM to exploit the pae feature, but to be able to run a new
*ubuntu version at all with the memory available, often around 1 GB.
