[Bug 1173527] Re: make the i386 *buntu version check for UEFI
The problem is that a person who is trying Ubuntu might just discard it saying "Ubuntu doesn't work on this computer", when the solution is simply to select the 64-bit version instead of the 32-bit version. Do you mean that the 32-bit Ubuntu systems will be completely locked out, so that they won't even be allowed to write a message 'to select the 64-bit system instead' before quitting? [Bug 1142213] Re: emacs23/24 GUI does not start when run in Kubuntu 13.04 with oxygen-gtk theme enabled
I've got the same problems (see Bug 1173857). Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I change the theme from oxygen to something else? I just did some testing to se what causes emacs23 to hang: - If I start emacs from a terminal, then it most of the time does to open a new window. - emacs -nw from a terminal works fine (as also noticed above) - If I start emacs from the kubuntu menu, then it (almost) always starts, and does not hang immiately. After that there are many things that I can do before Emacs hangs, such as: - compose an E-mail message (using M-X mail). It hangs only when I try to send the mail (using Ctl-C). - Write some text in the scratch-window, and save it to the disk. - I can edit some more, and do a "recover file" to get back what I saved earlier, and it still works fine. - Many of the the help menues under Ctl-H work fine. However, Ctl-H r makes it hang. After that I have to wait some time before it again starts properly. - The window splitting commands work fine. However, there are certain commands that always make Emacs hang: - Find file (Ctl-X Ctl-F) - Visit File (Ctl-X Ctl-V) - Dired - Sending of Mail - Ctl-H r (Display the Emacs manual in Info mode.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1142213 Title: emacs23/24 GUI does not start when run in Kubuntu 13.04 with oxygen- gtk theme enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs23/+bug/1142213/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

To everyone looking for a "quick fix" to this issue: Grab the packages 'fuse' and 'libfuse2' from the debian package archive. Get the package for your appropriate architecture (probably amd64 if you're using 64-bit, else i386). http://packages.debian.org/sid/libfuse2 http://packages.debian.org/sid/fuse I've been using versions 2.9.2-2, but the latest appears to be 2.9.2-4, not sure what's changed, but it's probably minor. Install both packages "sudo dpkg -i ..." Reboot, and you should be good to go. I've had no problems since installing 2.9.2 back in February, and I've used my ntfs filesystem on a daily basis since then. [Bug 1168188] Re: black screen on lenovo g580 and ubuntu 13.04
I just upgraded from Kubuntu 12.10 to 13.04, and have been struck by this. Unless I attach my external monitor (via HDMI) during boot, my laptop's LCD goes blank after showing the "Kubuntu" logo for a few seconds. I know it's getting to the KDM login screen, since if I move my mouse down+right, then click, the system powers down. (The shutdown button is at the extreme bottom right.) Attached is the output of 'intel_reg_dumper' on my system, after successfully logging in (booting with monitor attached). ** Attachment added: "Output of intel_reg_dumper on a ZaReason Strata 5330 laptop with Intel video (lspci says: "Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)")" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1168188/+attachment/3658488/+files/intel_reg_dumper.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1168188 Title: black screen on lenovo g580 and ubuntu 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1168188/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1115998] Re: Wireless cutting out after a few min of use in 13.04
Hi Everyone, I have a Samsung 530U laptop and this is affecting me also with Ubuntu 13.04, all updates installed as of today (28th April). I experience the same thing - wireless disconnects after about 3-7 mins (timing varies), and the only way to get it to reconnect is to reboot. I am just wondering what the progress is on getting this resolved? It seems to me to be a pretty serious issue, despite only being marked as medium priority. Basically I cannot use my laptop with Ubuntu in this state, and there must be a number of other people in this same situation. If there is anything I can do or provide to help resolve this faster, please let me know (please be specific as I am not too tech-savy - thanks). [Bug 1173826] Re: wireless card problem rtl8192se autodisconnects after a few minutes
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected raring ** Description changed: I am using wireless card rtl8192se. The official site of realtek provided a driver that supports kernel up to 3.2.x but recently i upgraded to 13.04 so i cannot use it. Initially the driver in the kernel works find but after a while it start disconnecting after a few minutes. The signal strength shown in the panel drops from 4/5 to 2 yet if I click open the menu, the strength remains. In the same time, network slows down drastically (from 100+kb/s to 100b/s). Only if i disconnect and reconnect will it start to work. but after a few minutes, it appears again. This is not a new problem, but I cannot find a solution to that, especially with kernel 3.8.x. Previously I switched from 12.10 to 12.04LTS also because of this problem. - PS: Please NOTE: it is not a consistent disconnection. It is somewhat - like a unstable network. [Bug 1174211] [NEW] Mouse settings are missing for wireless mice in Ubuntu 13.04
Public bug reported: When I have a wireless mouse attached, the mouse settings ("Pointer Speed") do not show up in the "Mouse & Touchpad" settings, only those for Touchpad. Only when I have a corded mouse attached, the Pointer Speed setting shows up. Furthermore, the "Acceleration" setting is always completely missing, for both the Touchpad and the Mouse setting. I tested this with different mice, corded and cordless. The Pointer Speed setting for wireless mice is always missing. I also tested this with a Live system and the problem is there as well. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: acceleration mouse pointer settings speed touchpad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1174211 Title: Mouse settings are missing for wireless mice in Ubuntu 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1174211/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 930447] Re: Unable to start Ubuntu 12.04 live CD with syslinux loader on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to bug in PAE kernel, initramfs or syslinux
Now, that we have launched Raring, it's time to start thinking about the future of the Ubuntu family. One thing that I hope we can achieve, is to make the next version able to cooperate with Pentium M, that has no pae flag, but still the ability to run i686-pae kernels of *ubuntu. I have verified that it works for me in an IBM Thinkpad T42 to use the fake-pae method for Pentium M CPUs by 7bit according to this link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2113826 This is good, but it would be great if this feature could be included in *ubuntu, so that people can install a new version directly, and avoid installing 12.04, add the fake-pae and upgrade to newer versions. I'm prepared to use my Thinkpad for testing, but I don't know enough to find and change the code. Maybe I can even try to compile the crucial package(s), if someone can hold my hands until I get the tools installed to do it (compilers, makefiles, source code packages etc.) The fake-pae fix in the ubuntuforums thread is not for everyone, but I think it would be fairly easy to enter some logic to make a difference between the Pentium M CPUs, that support pae, and the other non-pae CPUs. I can make such logic statements, but I need help to find where to put them. By the way, I think most if not all of the computers without pae, that are useful for anything but 'retro playing', are laptops with Pentium M. And, I think the objective of this task is not to stuff those old computers with more than 2 GB of RAM to exploit the pae feature, but to be able to run a new *ubuntu version at all with the memory available, often around 1 GB. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930447 Title: Unable to start Ubuntu 12.04 live CD with syslinux loader on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to bug in PAE kernel, initramfs or syslinux To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/930447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
