[Bug 1129908] [NEW] touchpad problems
Public bug reported: Acer Aspire One D270 netbook - Ubuntu 12.04 I have been using the computer in this configuration since around August last year. But I am a self confessed noob with Linux and Ubuntu. Touchpad does properly: - move cursor on screen (this was a fight just to get that function working - i don't know what was wrong with it first off because it started working randomly after a reboot) - click (left and right) - two finger gesture to scroll (vertical only) Touchpad does NOT do properly - two finger gesture scroll horizontal (yes - option is there in system settings - does nothing) - disable tap to click (yes - option is there in system settings - does nothing) - disable touchpad when typing (yes - option is there in system settings - does nothing) - options to disable when mouse is plugged in (not super important - if I could get above three working) - other two finger gestures? [Bug 1127521] Re: shotwell crashes after a while of "Updating library..."
The DB area have been emptied before, so the DB have been created from scratch. There is no problems with disk space, dmesg shows only the segfault message (BTW, segfault is not the best way to exit, even when an error occured). [Bug 1064474] Re: Firefox high cpu usage
@ Tom, your suggestion didn't help. In fact, if the global menu bar is switched on, than firefox in my case is not useable at all because it just stops whenewer i want to go from bookmarks to a desired webpage. It just stops not only firefox but all Unity on Ubuntu 12.xx (04/10). So, i had to disable it earlier but it just helped only for a bit with bookmarks (i have about 6.000), Unity doesen't froze now but just like the others wrote, with time firefox is just slower and slower, and there is a point where i have to close it because it can load my cpu to a 70-80%, and i see that scrolling page is not smooth at all, it's just laggy, very laggy to a point where it just gives me mad, what is funny? I have Quad Core CPU named X4 955 running at 3GHz...I have also Windows Vista and on Vista i have never seen such behaviour, no matter how many tabs are opened (even with for an example: 50 tabs), no matter what i run, what i selected in firefox, which page im on (Youtube and moves from it even with 720p or 1080 running) or how many firefox instances are opened - it's just always smooth. Under ubuntu, not. No matter which version of Ubuntu or Firefox. I have checked it also on Lubuntu, Kubuntu, Xbuntu, Slackware - everything works...exept Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1064474 Title: Firefox high cpu usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1064474/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1129908] Re: touchpad problems
I'm sorry, I don't understand. YesI know how to open a terminal window and I understand that you would like me to type in that command. This is what I get in return: "Authorize application to access Launchpad on your behalf Confirm Computer Access The Ubuntu computer called Lappy wants access to your Launchpad account. If you allow this, every application running on Lappy will have read- write access to your Launchpad account, including to your private data. If you're using a public computer, if Lappy is not the computer you're using right now, or if something just doesn't feel right about this situation, you should choose "Do Not Allow 'Lappy' to Access my Launchpad Account", or close this window now. You can always try again later. Even if you decide to give Lappy access to your Launchpad account, you can change your mind later." As you can probably guess I don't feel quite right about this so I am going to choose "Do not allow 'Lappy' to access my launchpad' - Why because I don't know what it is going to do. Please include in your instructions what you are doing. Is this nefarious activity? I don't know. Is this going to help solve my situation. I don't know. [Bug 1055810] Re: Cannot create keyboard shortcuts
I don't know if this is related or a separate bug: Shortcuts whose non- control key (i.e. number or letter) differs from default (LANG=C ?) keyboard layout go out of work after reboot and also differ when used via VNC. Steps to reproduce: * Use Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (precise pangolin) that is installed with a quertz keyboard layout, i.e. german 105 keys nodeadacute. maybe it would also work to change the keyboard layout to quertz and reboot, can't test that here. * Pick a shortcut with a key that differs from qwerty, i.e. Super+z. If it is already defined or its counterpart in quertz (in this case, Super+y), remove them and reboot. * Open a terminal, type Super+z, Super+y. Notice the "zy" appering in your terminal. * (optional bonus) Connect via VNC, Super+z, Super+y, adds "zy" in terminal. * In xfce4-settings-manager -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts, define Super+z = xmessage zZzZz. * Go to your terminal, type Super+z. Notice the xmessage popping up and no additional "z" in your terminal. Super+y still inputs "y". * (optional bonus) Connect via VNC, type Super+z, notice a z in your terminal and no xmessage. Type Super+y, notice a short loss of input focus on your terminal (cursor block going hollow for a moment) but no y added and no xmessgae popping up. * Reboot. * Open a terminal, type Super+z, Super+y. Notice same effects as in previous VNC bonus: z added to command line, y causes short loss of focus, no xmessage. * (optional bonus) Connect via VNC, type Super+z, xmessage pops up. Type Super+y, "y" is added to command line. [Bug 1129941] [NEW] Ubuntu cups printer on Ricoh MP C2501 non-stop multiple copy printing
Public bug reported: I just made a two-copy print in Ubuntu 12.04 using Libreoffice and a pdf document in document viewer on the Ricoh MP C2501 connected to our local network and there were no problems. However, since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10, in the last month or so, if more than one copy of a document is specified in, for example Libreoffice, document viewer, the Gimp or any other software, the Ricoh MP C2501 does not stop printing even when it reaches the number of copies specified. In other words, if two copies are specified, the printing will not stop until the printer is forcibly shut down. This happens in multiple versions of Ubuntu 12.10, that is, including Lubuntu 12.10 and Linux Mint 14. I suspect the latest version of cups because when Ubuntu 12.10 was initially installed there were no problems with multiple-copy printing. Non-stop printing of mulitple copies appeared only in the last month or so --- at most two months. There is no problem with single-copy printing. I just finished testing with Ubuntu 12.04 and there is no problem. Please look into this. [Bug 1129975] [NEW] RT3090 Wireless don't get activated when switching kernel version.
Public bug reported: I am running Release 12.10 (quantal) 64-bit with kernel Linux 3.5.0-22-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 8 21:47:00 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. When I update the kernel version, now last time from 3.5.0-21 to 3.5.0-22, my wireless interface don't get activated. The wifi interface is a Ralink corp. RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe and I suppose the driver kernel module is rt2800pci. I've tried to do $ sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-firmware-nonfree over a wired connection to no avail, the wifi interface will still not load. The only way that I've found to get the the WiFi working again after kernel update (this has happened at previous updates also) is to boot the computer into Windows 7 and then reboot it to Ubuntu and the WiFi comes back. Now I experience the same problem when updating to kernel 3.5.0-24 ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: quantal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129975 Title: RT3090 Wireless don't get activated when switching kernel version. Re. #713 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/993187/comments/713 I have ran for 24 hours on 12.04.1 with LTS Enablement stack from Quantal installed (with kernel 3.5.0-23-generic and X.Org X Server 1.13.0 / 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.1~precise2). Although the OS and graphics run smoother in 3.5 kernel, I just had a crash. Different message but similar symptoms. Black and white dump screen showing Kernel Bug message followed a few seconds later by corrupt graphics on screen and a need to Emergency Sync + Reboot - although system IS responsive to Num Lock this time, it's not entirely a hard lock but as Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work to get to a console it might as well be. This time error is: Kernel Bug at slub.c Invalid Opcode At the time I was copying backup data to a removable disk across SSH and working in Unity as normal. [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + xserver crash with kwin and NX + + [Test Case] + + install NX server, log in remotely using kde session + + [Regression Potential] + + small, patch has been in raring for a couple of weeks now without issues + + -- + This behavior is 100% reproducible. I have freenx-server installed from here: https://launchpad.net/~freenx-team/+archive/ppa And am logging in from a remote machine with the newest nxclient from nomachine.org. What happens is that upon login or shortly thereafter, kwin crashes with a segfault. After restarting, it crashes at regular intervals as well. I reported a bug to the KDE4 tracker: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298370 And it was marked a duplicate of a bug NOT related to NX: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=293209 Judging from the backtrace, and from the comments in bug 293209, the problem is related to Xorg, and the people at KDE seem to think that the problem might even be Ubuntu 12.04 specific. So I decided to re-report the bug here and give you pointers to the relevant KDE bugreports. We are really desperate to get Kwin working under NX and are willing to test whatever you like! Many thanks in advance. [Bug 1129975] Re: RT3090 Wireless don't get activated when switching kernel version.
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity ** Description changed: I am running Release 12.10 (quantal) 64-bit with kernel Linux 3.5.0-22-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 8 21:47:00 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Now I experience the same problem when updating to kernel 3.5.0-24 + --- + ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: ola3075 F pulseaudio + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=975d9c38-9be0-42b2-9926-9e655da4dda4 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2010-12-04 (807 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) + MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HPE-345sc + MarkForUpload: True + NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia + Package: linux 3.5.0.24.30 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: + + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-24-generic root=UUID=2fe81899-6a89-465c-8a61-da27e5874802 ro crashkernel=384M-2G:64M,2G-:128M quiet splash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-24.37-generic 3.5.7.4 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.5.0-24-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.5.0-24-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.95 + RfKill: + 0: phy0: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no + Tags: quantal running-unity + Uname: Linux 3.5.0-24-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-11-18 (92 days ago) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lp lpadmin plugdev sambashare users vboxusers + dmi.bios.date: 07/12/2010 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 6.12 + dmi.board.name: 2A9C + dmi.board.vendor: MSI + dmi.board.version: 1.0 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: CZC038C3Z0 + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr6.12:bd07/12/2010:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPE-345sc:pvrxxx0204GR0:rvnMSI:rn2A9C:rvr1.0:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct3:cvr: + dmi.product.name: HPE-345sc + dmi.product.version: xxx0204GR0 + dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129975/+attachment/3536227/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129975 Title: RT3090 Wireless don't get activated when switching kernel version. [Bug 1129571] Re: libreoffice armhf FTBFS
Serge, I asked Alex to escalate this because it has required us to make a devirtualised PPA for a commercial project that involves libreoffice builds. This has some risk of being an operational problem, because it's going to be using Ubuntu build resources rather than the usual PPA ones. I'd appreciate any help you can offer in sorting this out so that we can go back to using virtualised PPAs for this. ** Also affects: qemu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1129571 Title: libreoffice armhf FTBFS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1129571/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
