[Bug 1110138] [NEW] Unity: wrong window dimensions / location in Java applications

2013-01-30 Thread bastik
Public bug reported:

In Java applications, the functions to set and get window dimensions and
position do not work as expected. This problem is only observed in Unity
but not gnome, Win., etc.

Details:

* Call setSize(200, 200) and setLocation(300,400) for a JDialog object.

* If you call getSize() and getLocation() directly after making the
JDialog visible, the result will be (200,200) and (300,400). Calling
getSize() and getLocation() again, a split second later, the result is
now (200,200) and (301,428). In both cases, the values are wrong, the
size and location is actually (202,229) and (300,400) as shown by a
screen capture.

Consequences:

* If the dialog is designed to reach to the bottom of the screen, the
lower end will be cut off about 30 pixel, so the window needs to be
moved by the user each time to see the lower button row (e.g. settings
dialog in netbeans on medium resolution screen).

* In applications that save and restore window position and size, the
window will move down 28 pixel each time it is opened an closed (e.g.
JOSM, preference dialog).

Expected behavior:

* The result of getLocation() should be constant for one window unless
the user moves the window

* setSize(dx,dy) should not set the size of the content pane, but the
size of the entire window, including window decorations

* be consistent for all Window objects, e.g. in the attached sample, the
JFrame works correctly, but the JDialog shows the described bug

Output of the sample code (press button "click", then press button
"click2"):

dlg.getLocationOnScreen()=java.awt.Point[x=300,y=400]
dlg.getLocationOnScreen()=java.awt.Point[x=301,y=428]

Note: Both getLocation() and getLocationOnScreen() return the same
values.

Observed for the following Java versions:

java version "1.6.0_24"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.5) (6b24-1.11.5-0ubuntu1~12.10.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

[Bug 995234] Re: Merge collectd 5.1.0-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-01-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package collectd - 5.1.0-3ubuntu1

---
collectd (5.1.0-3ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #995234), remaining changes:
- Transition to use default java implementation:
  -- d/control: Switch BD openjdk-6-jdk -> default-jdk.
  -- d/rules: Check for /usr/lib/jvm/default-java before searching
other paths when setting up JAVA_HOME.
- Build-depend on libdbi-dev rather than libdbi0-dev (LP: #625882).
- debian/control: Removing libhal-dev as Build-Dependency so collectd
  can be moved to main.
- libperl-linkage.dpatch: Separate Perl ldopts into components suitable
for LDFLAGS and LIBS, fixing build failure with 'ld --as-needed'
  (LP: #796571).
  * Dropped changes, included in Debian:
- Add armhf to JAVA_ARCHDIR_MAP in debian/rules to fix FTBFS.
- Track changes to libyajl2 API.
- Track changes to libnetfilter API.
- Handle new multiarch-friendly OpenJDK installation paths.
- Apply build fixes from peter green in Debian #625323:
  -- gcc-4.6-fixes.dpatch: Fix unused variable/parameter errors (adjusted
slightly by me to appease 'gcc -Wunused-result'.
  -- notify-desktop.dpatch: Port to libnotify 0.7.
- fix-detection-libiptc-1.4.10.dpatch: fix detection of libiptc 1.4.10. This
  fixes a FTBFS.

collectd (5.1.0-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/migrate-4-5-df.dpatch, debian/collectd-core.postinst:
- Added patch to fix the migration of 'df' values in migrate-4-5.px;
thanks to 'markuskaindl' for reporting this on IRC.
- Pass --rrdfilter and --rrdtool parameters to migrate-4-5.px in order to
let the script find those binaries/scripts.
(Closes: #681363)
  * debian/collectd-core.collectd.init.d:
- Catch disabled state in start and restart and don't exit with an error
status. Amongst others, this fixes an upgrade of collectd when the
daemon is disabled. Thanks to Florian Ernst for reporting this and
Evgeni Golov for providing (an early) patch (Closes: #681216).
- Don't use 'set -e' and 'exit 0' (at the end) in order to let return
  statuses propagate correctly. (cf. #681216)

collectd (5.1.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/collectd-core.postinst:
- Don't create unused temp. directory.
  * debian/control, debian/rules:
- Build depend on libmodbus-dev and enabled modbus plugin. 5.1 now
supports libmodbus 3; thanks to Ivo De Decker for reporting this
  (Closes: #639796).
  * debian/po:
- Updated Swedish debconf translation; thanks to Martin Bagge
  (Closes: #677842).
- Added Slovak debconf translation; thanks to 'helix84'
  (Closes: #677902).
- Updated Danish debconf translation; thanks to Joe Dalton
  (Closes: #677908).
- Updated Czech debconf translation; thanks to Martin Šín
  (Closes: #677949).
- Updated Russian debconf translation; thanks to Yuri Kozlov
  (Closes: #678016).
- Updated Portuguese debconf translation; thanks to Américo Monteiro
  (Closes: #678048).
- Updated Polish debconf translation; thanks to Michał Kułach
  (Closes: #678157).
- Updated Galician debconf translation; thanks to Jorge Barreiro
  (Closes: #678467).
- Updated French debconf translation; thanks to Steve Petruzzello
  (Closes: #678614).
- Updated Spanish debconf translation; thanks to Omar Campagne
  (Closes: #679281).
  * debian/collectd-core.collectd.init.d:
- Source /lib/lsb/init-functions in order to make systemd work in
compatibility mode; thanks to Michael Stapelberg for reporting this
  (Closes: #679544).
- Use log_* and status_of_proc functions from LSB's init functions to
make collectd's output look like all the other output; thanks to
Matthias Urlichs for pointing this out (Closes: #679355).

collectd (5.1.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (Closes: #630968):
- syslog plugin now supports logging notifications; thanks to Trent W.
Buck for suggesting this (Closes: #632940).
New plugins:
- AMQP output plugin: amqp
- AIX logical partitions statistics: lpar (disabled in Debian; AIX only)
- Network interface card statistics: ethstat (disabled on kfreebsd; Linux
  only)
- Linux software-RAID device information: md (disabled on kfreebsd; Linux

[Bug 1110147] [NEW] Error in manual

2013-01-30 Thread Abel Lopez
Public bug reported:

The manual for crontab(5) shows various examples of using the date command as
such:
$(date +%u)

This contradicts the note specifying that any % sign needs to be escaped

Entering something like that as a command for execution fails to
interpret anything past the % sign.

so, for example:
* * * * * echo $(date +%Y)
fails with
/bin/sh: 1: Syntax error: end of file unexpected (expecting ")")

The syslog shows this
 CRON[10104]: (root) CMD (echo $(date +)

Simply escaping the % resolves it, so in this example, the manual should
be updated so that each 'date' example looks as

$(date +\%u) - or whatever the format character example is.
My example cron from above executes as expected as
* * * * * echo $(date +\%Y)

which send me an email simply with "2013"

** Affects: cron (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 1108371] Re: Wish: direct loading of play list files

2013-01-30 Thread Falk
** Description changed:

- Direct loading (right mouse click when 'Playlist' is activated) and/or direct
reading of playlists.
- ==> the Mixxx file explorer (file search) should support m3u file format and
so read them directly!
+ At the moment an existing playlist (e.g. an .m3u file) can only be imported
into Mixxx by creating a new playlist continued by 'Import playlist' (right
mouse click onto new playlist).
+ Instead it would be better to right mouse click onto Mixxx Explorer's
'Playlist' folder and showing the option 'Load Playlists'.
+ Now existing playlists should be (multi-)selected to load them directly into
MIXX explorer's Playlist folder.

[Bug 685611] Re: [Natty] Booting fails because of GRUB setting "set gfxpayload=$linux_gfx_mode"

I can confirm that this still exists bug on 12.04 LTS. I edited
/etc/default/grub, added GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text, then ran 'sudo
update-grub' to work-around the issue for now.

Some more information:

Most importantly, this problem doesn't occur with an older kernel
(3.2.0-29-generic and below).

[Bug 1107844] Re: [SRU] Valgrind complains about conditonal jumps depending on uninitialized value when running the IDE

2013-01-30 Thread Jerome St-Louis
** Description changed:

Valgrind complains about conditional jumps based on uninitialized value
  on the IDE

The root of the problem was in the virtual method table for eC objects.
The logic has been re-evaluated and code fixed accordingly.

  [Test Case]
Run the IDE through valgrind, and notice the following:

+
  [Regression Potential]
The dynamic class inheritance logic is quite complex, and so it is easy to go
wrong.
However this fix has been improved and tested over a few months and with
several different projects and scenarios, and has proven to be solid.
This could only affect eC applications.

[Bug 1107653] Re: Major regression on Precise....(Fail to install and broke ALL the network)

2013-01-30 Thread Bernardo Reino
@Lucas Pottersky (lucaspottersky),

>From what I can see the (re)installation of the new dkms module worked
fine (contrary to the initial bug report by @Maxime Haselbauer).

Can you open a terminal and run, as root:

# modprobe wl

Assuming that this fails (i.e. you still have no WLAN), check the last
few lines in the output of running "dmesg". This will show why the
module failed to load.

The wl module has a slight conflict with the compat-wireless package
(are you using it?). I have a broadcom BCM4314 WLAN chip *and* an
Atheros AR8161 Ethernet chip (Lenovo Ideapad N581). The former requires
the WL module while the latter requires the ALX module, which (as of
now) is part of the compat-wireless package. The compat-wireless package
includes a version of cfg80211 that is incompatible with the WL module.

I solved the conflict by manually fixing the module dependencies and
then running "depmod -a". Unfortunately I cannot explain (at least) now,
exactly what I did.

It would be nice if we had a self-contained bcmwl package with no
dependencies on anything (if at all possible), or at least a separate
package for the ALX module that wouldn't include the whole compat-
wireless mess.

According to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/923809/comments/27
there will be a separate ALX package, which sounds good to me.

[Bug 1103314] Re: Speed regression for Intel Wireless 6230

Confirming that disabling n-mode is a valid workaround.

But I'm curious as to why this rate control bug keeps coming back once
every few kernel releases.

[Bug 1063992] Re: Evolution crash while opening rss feed

2013-01-30 Thread Ping Win
I can confirm, that on OpenSuse 12.2 works perfect. So maybe it's more
to ubuntu... I also noticed big problems with enabled "always download
images..." for HTML. When switching accounts from pop to EWS and vice
versa, evolution becomes unresponsive... i live with no images ;)

Do not know, why everybody ignores problems with evolution (googled a lot of
them) - since i come from enterprise environment, i can tell it's hard for few
of us survive with linux in M$ world, without proper
mail/calendar/collaboration client...
I hope future linux wont become only "facebook client"

Re: [Bug 1107353] Re: Recent Updates to Ubuntu 12.04.1 break suspend/sleep

2013-01-30 Thread ralphl
I did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04.1, installed all the updates, and
tested suspend and hibernate. Both worked fine. I then installed
gnome-panel, disabled overlay scrollbars in dconf, installed Clearlooks
Phenix 2 theme, installed Flash, customized the bottom panel, moved the
minimize, maximize, close box to the right, and a few other things.
Suspend and hibernate still work. Please don't work on this problem
until I finish my customization. Perhaps that will cause the problem
again, or hopefully, the problem will be fixed.

Thanks,
Ralph

[Bug 1093543] Re: Battery status behaves erratically

2013-01-30 Thread bwalex
While gema's issue (which was dealing with raw sysfs read data) is gone
with this patch, I suspect your issue might well be related to upower.

Did you try with the second patch as well? The "Provide energy
measurement" ? A quick skim through the relevant upower code would
indicate that it does try to use the "energy_now" node when present,
which may change the behaviour you see.

Cheers,
Alex

[Bug 1093543] Re: Battery status behaves erratically

2013-01-30 Thread Gema Gomez
The patch definitely fixed my issue, you could see the graph before,
attach the graph after.

The other patch for energy_now measurements is the one shown in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-nexus7/+bug/1093543.

[Bug 1102433] Re: Changing taskbar icon breaks the program

2013-01-30 Thread Mike
** Description changed:

After changing the taskbar icon in knemo, the taskbar icon disappeared
completely. Also the program no longer launches. Tried killing the
process and opening it again but to no avail. Tried the fix listed here,
  but had no succes. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1970234

I'm using Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 LTS
+
+ P.S.: The icons that screw up knemo is the set that displays
+ upload/download as text (numeric) values in the taskbar, as well as the
+ set that displays 2 colored "graph-like" bars (if I'm not mistaken I
+ think they also had numerical values next to them, could be wrong since
+ I'm not using it anymore, at least until this bug is fixed).

2013-01-30 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev

** Description changed:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on Toshiba AC100 (ARM).

  network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1
  network-manager-gnome0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2

It often happens that whenever I want to connect to another WiFi network
through the menu of the applet, there is no reaction for very long time
  (10 mins, or for ever).

I tried to select "Disconnect": no reaction.
I tried to select the new network many times: no reaction.

  Workaround (as root):

  service network-manager restart

[Bug 1110197] [NEW] My CCSM settings are constantly overwritten

2013-01-30 Thread Vaclav Cermak
Public bug reported:

I customized compiz behavior to meet my needs using ccsm (I want follow
focus mode, I don't want auto-raise and raise on click, I want to
initiate window move and resize by Super and not Meta, I need Alt-Space
shortcut for Blender and not for window menu (never used by me) and
several other similar things). Theese settings works fine, but sometimes
are my settings overwritten by system default and I must manually change
them. This happens without running any configuration tool, just out of
nowhere. It may have some correlation with login, but sometimes it
changes during my work with computer. And it is _very_ annoying.

1) Ubuntu 12.10
2) ccsm 1:0.9.8.4+bzr3407-0ubuntu1
3) I expected, that system will not change my customized settings
4) My settings are constantly changed

[Bug 1110188] [NEW] Software Center removed half my system

2013-01-30 Thread Ryan Finnie
Public bug reported:

I downloaded steam_latest.deb from steampowered.com, saved it, double
clicked on it, and Software Center launched. It brought up the deb
information page, I clicked Install, and Software Center proceeded to
remove literally about half of the installed pacakges on my system
(about 400), including things like unity, ubuntu-desktop, and,
ironically, software-center itself. It eventually errored out (see
attached log).

Using /var/log/apt/history.log, I was able to restore the system's
packages to their previous state, but Software Center shouldn't have
allowed this to happen (whether or not the third-party .deb was actually
at fault).

NB: To correct the apt error, I did "apt-get -f install". Then, after I
apt-get installed the packages which were removed, steam was still
installed, so it wasn't a dependency error which caused the packages to
be removed. I have no idea why it actually happened.

[Bug 1110198] [NEW] NVIDIA® GeForce G 105M - 512MB, gives 3 vertical screens on ACER Extensa 5635ZG

2013-01-30 Thread rasvet
Public bug reported:

On my ACER Extensa 5635ZG with NVidia G105M graphics onboard and Ubuntu 12.10
OS there is a problem with nvidia-current driver. It's similar to the problem
described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/483857
but I have only three vertically stacked displays on monitor.

On my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (which I''ve upgraded recently) and nvidia ver.

[Bug 1093543] Re: Battery status behaves erratically

2013-01-30 Thread bwalex
Actually I don't think the energy patch will change much. Fact is that,
since we don't provide current_now nor power_now, upower will do,

/* the hardware reporting failed -- try to calculate this */
if (energy_rate < 0.01)
energy_rate = up_device_supply_calculate_rate (supply, energy);

energy_rate will be 0 because of the absence of those two sysfs nodes.

I'd suspect any issue being in this software-based rate calculation.
Something that would be worth trying out is providing a current_now
node, which is something the fuel gauge chip provides. That would allow
upower to use a different rate calculation mechanism and possibly avoid
the issue altogether.

I'll post a quick patch to provide current_now in a bit.

Cheers,
Alex

Behind the scenes that activates the "install additional/non-free
drivers" logic. The virtualbox guest module is free, but representing
it like this is a compromise between not making the UI too complex and
still providing the opt-in feature.
