[Bug 1102305] [NEW] No Korean input method installed by default
Public bug reported: I remembered several years ago trying a Korean install, but I remember you had to hack it to get input to work. I run an English install of Quantal (AMD64) so I tried a korean installation in virtualbox, and realised that there is still no korean input available on default (or a self-explanitory way to make it available). To get input I had to download and install ibus-hangul and configure it using the steps I found at http://xmodulo.com/2012/11/how- to-enable-korean-language-input-on-ubuntu.html Fortunately I only use Korean rarely, so I don't mind manually installing it, but I think it should be an included feature. Even if it is just a checkbox in the install (we can download mp3 codecs during the install, shouldn't be too hard for a "do you want to type in your language" option if it can't be included in the standard distribution) Hardware is ASUS F45U laptop (US keyboard, I don't have a working Korean one to test) ** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102305 Title: No Korean input method installed by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1102305/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. [Bug 1024822] Re: Some ubuntu default programs close inconsistent behavior
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1102309] [NEW] Better supporting drives behind RAID cards...
Public bug reported: Regarding the smartmontools in Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS (x64, though I doubt x86 behaves differently): I've made a simple patch to the service script for smartmontools to add support for options to be passed via /etc/default/smartmontools to smartctl. Options for smartd are already provided. Please see: http://pastebin.com/54M4dGXW Also, if the maintainers could give a thought about how to more succintly express devices located behind RAID cards, that would be appreciated. The mechanism at the moment assumes a simplistically/directly attached as /dev/[hs]dX model. Currently, I'm hacking it together by using this script as above and adding the /dev/twaX device as a "static" parametre to smartctl via the smartctl_opt. Like so in /etc/default/smartmontools: enable_smart="--device=3ware,0 --device=3ware,1 --device=3ware,2 --device=3ware,3 \ --device=3ware,4 --device=3ware,5 --device=3ware,6 --device=3ware,7 \ --device=3ware,8 --device=3ware,9 --device=3ware,10 --device=3ware,11 \ --device=3ware,12 --device=3ware,13 --device=3ware,14 --device=3ware,15" smartctl_opts="/dev/twa0 -o on -S on" Thanks, Oren ** Affects: smartmontools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: raid smartmontools -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102309 Title: Better supporting drives behind RAID cards... [Bug 1102318] [NEW] Slow system after resume from suspend
Public bug reported: Hello, For quite some time I've been experiencing problems with Ubuntu after resume from suspend. I have an Asus M70SR notebook with ATI Radeon Mobility HD3470 and using the open-source driver for it (from Quantal official repository). Currently I have Ubuntu 12.10 installed, but the same was happening before with 12.04. It doesn't matter if I use Unity, Gnome-Shell or Gnome Classic - the slow down is always there. My /etc/X11/xorg-conf looks like this: Section "Device" Identifier "ATI Radeon 3470HD" Driver "ati" Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" Option "AccelDFS" "true" Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" Option "SwapbuffersWait" "off" Option "ColorTiling" "on" Option "ColorTiling2D" "on" EndSection To give you some picture about it: Glxgears BEFORE suspend: ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. ATTENTION: option value of option vblank_mode ignored. 4007 frames in 5.0 seconds = 801.315 FPS 3867 frames in 5.0 seconds = 773.359 FPS 3918 frames in 5.0 seconds = 782.475 FPS 3879 frames in 5.0 seconds = 774.902 FPS 3859 frames in 5.0 seconds = 771.025 FPS Glxgears AFTER resume from suspend: ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment. The workaround is to kill the X server (Ctrl-Alt- Backspace) and login again, the problem is gone then. However, it's quite annoying to have to close all open apps and then reopen them again. As you can see, I use vblank_mode=0 option and in Compiz the Vsync is turned off. The measuring was done from Gnome Classic session, but I can experience the same slowdown in Unity and in Gnome Shell as well. [Bug 1100694] Re: display OS in existing partitions
Hello, Thank you very much for submitting your patch. The proposed feature - showing detected file systems in the advanced partitioner table is very nice and useful. One question, does /dev/sda1 always stay as "Windows", even if it was already marked to be formatted and used by the new installation? I.e. is there a way to "expire" the misc.grub_options? Although that's a corner case and gets more tricky if partman changes are applied & reverted. Here are some further comments about the patch & structure. Usually, we don't use global variables like the introduced GRUB_OPTIONS to store state or pass data around. (The other defined global variables are constants). For example, since all of this is happening in the PageGtk object, one can store misc.grub_options() in self.grub_options_cache. And simply use that when generating the table view. Please don't include #start/end--- markers, as they are redundant. The provided patch already clearly shows your changes. You may find it useful to use bzr to branch lp:ubiquity source code, and then push branches back to launchpad and create merge proposals. That way one doesn't need to maintain patches of their own. For example see this recent merge proposal [1]. Further documentation on how to download a branch, push your changes back and make a merge proposal can be found here [2]. Once again. Thank you for your idea and patch to implement it. [Bug 1059827] Re: Non trival grub2 installs no longer fit in small embed areas
Escalation won't particularly help as this is just plain difficult to fix: there's no single cause for the code growing beyond the relevant size, but rather gradual accretion of bug-fixes has meant the code is now just slightly larger than will fit. I don't regard LVM or RAID as exotic, and in that case this is a regression; they're close enough to the size limit that we may be able to squeeze things back down again in a future upstream version, but it will take some slow and steady work. btrfs and ZFS are over the size limit by a very considerable margin, and it is unlikely that we will ever be able to squeeze support for those into 62 sectors. They were never there in the first place, so in that case this isn't a regression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1059827 Title: Non trival grub2 installs no longer fit in small embed areas To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1059827/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1102342] [NEW] Lower-right resize control jumps to near-maximized
Public bug reported: When I open a document in evince and attempt to resize it, the resize control in the lower right corner will resize the window to the maximum size, rather than stay under the cursor. Grabbing a window edge and resizing from there works as expected, so as a workaround, I can resize the evince window to the size I want by dragging from the window edges rather than from the corner control; but the workaround is annoying and cumbersome, and the impulse to use the corner control is hard to unlearn. I include the OS version info etc and below that a command-line sequence demostrating the problem. Between the first and the second xwininfo commands, I just barely had time to reach for the mouse and click and hold the button over the bottom-right corner of the evince window. I am running Xubuntu, pretty much out of the box. Perhaps the problem is in the window manager or something? [Bug 1011418] Re: Move zz-update-grub to -common pacakge
The reason I put this in grub-pc et al is that running update-grub when the kernel is updated is part of GRUB owning the boot process, which is part of the definition of grub-pc et al (as opposed to *-bin). In your case, I think it would perhaps be better to have grub-kexec-bin and grub-kexec packages, as we've discussed before. ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Milestone: quantal-alpha-3 => None ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011418 Title: Move zz-update-grub to -common pacakge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1011418/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1100386] Re: Raring server installations on VMs fail to reboot after the installations

Re: [Bug 1081740] Re: Every tab named "New Tab"
You can mark this as invalid or fixed as far as I'm concerned - it was due to one of my plugins, indeed. Going back to a "vanilla" Firefox removed the issue. [Bug 1047566] Re: Memory leaks when using NFS
I've recently been wondering why my kvm server runs out of memory when I try to run minecraft server on one virtual machine. It looks like the problem is caused by this bug. I'm now running 3.2.0-36 on the host and virtual machines but I still cannot run minecraft on the virtual machine without idr_layer_cache growing endlessly until the server runs out of memory. The server is running stable if I don't try to run minecraft. If I do it usually runs out of memory in a few hours. On the server I have six virtual machines running. The server has 18GB memory and virtual machines use only 8GB. I have exported home directories from the server to virtual machines using NFSv3. The filesystem for home directories is formatted as XFS. On the minecraft virtual machine I have 2GB memory and a lvm partition for minecraft and other stuff. The lvm partition resides on the same physical disk as the home directories. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047566 Title: Memory leaks when using NFS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/1047566/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
