[Bug 1102305] [NEW] No Korean input method installed by default

2013-01-21 Thread vialick
Public bug reported:

I remembered several years ago trying a Korean install, but I remember
you had to hack it to get input to work.

I run an English install of Quantal (AMD64) so I tried a korean
installation in virtualbox, and realised that there is still no korean
input available on default (or a self-explanitory way to make it
available). To get input I had to download and install ibus-hangul and
configure it using the steps I found at http://xmodulo.com/2012/11/how-
to-enable-korean-language-input-on-ubuntu.html

Fortunately I only use Korean rarely, so I don't mind manually
installing it, but I think it should be an included feature. Even if it
is just a checkbox in the install (we can download mp3 codecs during the
install, shouldn't be too hard for a "do you want to type in your
language" option if it can't be included in the standard distribution)

Hardware is ASUS F45U laptop (US keyboard, I don't have a working Korean
one to test)

[Bug 1102265] Re: Wrong time reported in title bar

2013-01-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1102265/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 628105] Re: [Upstream] Text not black in LibreOffice

2013-01-21 Thread Ritesh Khadgaray
[Impact]

 * Auto-colored text is illegible on dark background in LibreOffice.
 * Use "High Contrast" theme, unacceptable to customer.
 * User has to mnaually change the color from "automatic" to white.
 * This is affecting a flagship customer.

[Test Case]

 * In Libreoffice Impress the text with the color "automatic" is hard to
read if the background color is set to black (example file/screenshot

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1102309] [NEW] Better supporting drives behind RAID cards...

2013-01-21 Thread Oren Maxximix
Public bug reported:

Regarding the smartmontools in Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS (x64, though I doubt
x86 behaves differently):

I've made a simple patch to the service script for smartmontools to add
support for options to be passed via /etc/default/smartmontools to
smartctl. Options for smartd are already provided.

Please see:

http://pastebin.com/54M4dGXW

Also, if the maintainers could give a thought about how to more
succintly express devices located behind RAID cards, that would be
appreciated. The mechanism at the moment assumes a
simplistically/directly attached as /dev/[hs]dX model.

Currently, I'm hacking it together by using this script as above and
adding the /dev/twaX device as a "static" parametre to smartctl via the
smartctl_opt.

Like so in /etc/default/smartmontools:

enable_smart="--device=3ware,0 --device=3ware,1 --device=3ware,2
--device=3ware,3 \
--device=3ware,4 --device=3ware,5 --device=3ware,6 --device=3ware,7 \
--device=3ware,8 --device=3ware,9 --device=3ware,10 --device=3ware,11 \
--device=3ware,12 --device=3ware,13 --device=3ware,14 --device=3ware,15"

smartctl_opts="/dev/twa0 -o on -S on"

Thanks,
Oren

[Bug 1102318] [NEW] Slow system after resume from suspend

2013-01-21 Thread Roman Dinga
Public bug reported:

Hello,

For quite some time I've been experiencing problems with Ubuntu after
resume from suspend. I have an Asus M70SR notebook with ATI Radeon
Mobility HD3470 and using the open-source driver for it (from Quantal
official repository). Currently I have Ubuntu 12.10 installed, but the
same was happening before with 12.04. It doesn't matter if I use Unity,
Gnome-Shell or Gnome Classic - the slow down is always there. My
/etc/X11/xorg-conf looks like this:

Option "AccelDFS" "true"
Option "EnablePageFlip" "true"
Option "SwapbuffersWait" "off"
Option "ColorTiling" "on"
Option "ColorTiling2D" "on"
EndSection

To give you some picture about it:

As you can see the performance after resume from suspend is about 1/8th
of the normal. The workaround is to kill the X server (Ctrl-Alt-
Backspace) and login again, the problem is gone then. However, it's
quite annoying to have to close all open apps and then reopen them
again.

As you can see, I use vblank_mode=0 option and in Compiz the Vsync is
turned off. The measuring was done from Gnome Classic session, but I can
experience the same slowdown in Unity and in Gnome Shell as well.

Best regards,
Roman Dinga

[Bug 1102317] [NEW] Unable to disable networking/wireless through network indicator

2013-01-21 Thread Otus
Public bug reported:

If I click the "Enable Networking" or "Enable Wireless" menu items,
nothing happens. The computer stays connected to any networks and the
menu items still have check marks.

Related to bug #824998 and bug #1059529 - this gives me unavoidable

[Bug 1032744] Re: udisksd crashed with SIGSEGV in udisks_daemon_util_check_authorization_sync()

2013-01-21 Thread Christian Semmens
(Dell Optiplex 990)
Still happening for me intermittently. The problem went away for a while, but
seems to be back again now.
Always on first login after turning on computer.
Log in to Unity is slow for first attempt. I also have problems with X not
starting every time, Just a mouse pointer overlaying the tty screen.. Sometimes
this clears on its own after a couple of minutes, sometimes lightdm needs a
restart. I realise this is a different bug, but mention it in passing.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-01-21 Thread AndreK
I asked a question "how to get some attention to a important bug" -
during an chat with one of the guys from ubuntu. "ubuntu on air"

he told me I needed to contact "developer team" - easier said, than
done, after much searching I found mail address of somewhat significant
member, team admin. Sent mail, explaining that this is very important
to many users, business users, and very, very, discouraging to anyone
that tries Ubuntu at home and have som sort of network/NAS/server.

no response - that was >1 week ago.

[Bug 1102332] [NEW] Missing conflict / replace cause file conflict with latest qemu-user

2013-01-21 Thread Loïc Minier
Public bug reported:

Hi,

When upgrading my raring install this morning:
dpkg: erreur de traitement de
/var/cache/apt/archives/qemu-user_1.3.0+dfsg-1~exp3ubuntu4_amd64.deb (--unpack)
:
tentative de remplacement de « /usr/bin/qemu-x86_64 », qui appartient aussi au
paquet qemu-kvm 1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu7

This seems to be due to a file moving to a different binary package and
that misses proper Conflicts/Replaces (or just Replaces).

Thanks,

[Bug 1101221] Re: [RFE] Unable to hold package version from Ubuntu Software Center

2013-01-21 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
This would be a good small feature. Probably there should be a "Hold
Version…" or similar item in the "File" menu, opening a dialog to choose
from available versions.

See also bug 653381, about the ability to install old versions if they
are in the archive. Maybe those two commands could even use the same
menu item.

This generally indicates that GRUB's core image and modules are out of

[Bug 1102335] [NEW] Cannot remove launcher icon

2013-01-21 Thread Adam Szanto-Varnagy
Public bug reported:

I have a partially broken "gedit" launcher icon (since upgrading to
12.04 LTS). This is not reliable to launch gedit. When gedit is opened,
another icon is appearing, which works fine and I want to use instead. I
can keep the new, good icon in the launcher, but cannot remove the old,
broken one. On right-click, no such option (by the way, I wanted to
attach screenshot, but Print Screen doesn't does a thing while the
right-click menu appears), cannot drag to Trash and cannot find the icon
in its usual places (such as /usr/local/share/applications).

(After upgrade, similar icon problems regarding other applications (like
LibreOffice) could easily be solved by just keeping the new and deleting
the old.)

go build github.com/nightlyone/play: exec: "gccgo": executable file not found
in $PATH

Easily worked around with installing this small script called "gccgo" in the
$PATH or a manual symlink.
#!/bin/sh
exec /usr/bin/gccgo-4.7 $@

Next problem (the one to be actually reported):
ioe@laforge:~/sources/github/go/play$ go build -compiler gccgo
# github.com/nightlyone/play
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc_s
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

This can be fixed with extending the script "gccgo" in the $PATH like this:
#!/bin/sh
exec /usr/bin/gccgo-4.7 -static-libgcc -B/usr/bin/ld.gold $@

After this change I can compile binaries and libraries.

[Bug 1100694] Re: display OS in existing partitions

2013-01-21 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Hello,

Thank you very much for submitting your patch. The proposed
feature - showing detected file systems in the advanced
partitioner table is very nice and useful.

One question, does /dev/sda1 always stay as "Windows", even if it
was already marked to be formatted and used by the new
installation? I.e. is there a way to "expire" the
misc.grub_options? Although that's a corner case and gets more
tricky if partman changes are applied & reverted.

Here are some further comments about the patch & structure.

Usually, we don't use global variables like the introduced
GRUB_OPTIONS to store state or pass data around. (The other
defined global variables are constants).

For example, since all of this is happening in the PageGtk
object, one can store misc.grub_options() in
self.grub_options_cache. And simply use that when generating the
table view.

Please don't include #start/end--- markers, as they are
redundant. The provided patch already clearly shows your changes.

You may find it useful to use bzr to branch lp:ubiquity source
code, and then push branches back to launchpad and create merge
proposals. That way one doesn't need to maintain patches of their
own. For example see this recent merge proposal [1]. Further
documentation on how to download a branch, push your changes back
and make a merge proposal can be found here [2].

Once again. Thank you for your idea and patch to implement it.

Patch that should show the keyboard shortcuts (accelerators) in the main menu

Replaces the Inkscape custom labels with standard gtk menu accelerators.

Tested on Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10.

[Bug 1059827] Re: Non trival grub2 installs no longer fit in small embed areas

2013-01-21 Thread Colin Watson
Escalation won't particularly help as this is just plain difficult to
fix: there's no single cause for the code growing beyond the relevant
size, but rather gradual accretion of bug-fixes has meant the code is
now just slightly larger than will fit. I don't regard LVM or RAID as
exotic, and in that case this is a regression; they're close enough to
the size limit that we may be able to squeeze things back down again in
a future upstream version, but it will take some slow and steady work.

btrfs and ZFS are over the size limit by a very considerable margin, and
it is unlikely that we will ever be able to squeeze support for those
into 62 sectors. They were never there in the first place, so in that
case this isn't a regression.

[Bug 1102342] [NEW] Lower-right resize control jumps to near-maximized

2013-01-21 Thread era
Public bug reported:

When I open a document in evince and attempt to resize it, the resize
control in the lower right corner will resize the window to the maximum
size, rather than stay under the cursor.

Grabbing a window edge and resizing from there works as expected, so as
a workaround, I can resize the evince window to the size I want by
dragging from the window edges rather than from the corner control; but
the workaround is annoying and cumbersome, and the impulse to use the
corner control is hard to unlearn.

I include the OS version info etc and below that a command-line sequence
demostrating the problem. Between the first and the second xwininfo
commands, I just barely had time to reach for the mouse and click and
hold the button over the bottom-right corner of the evince window.

I am running Xubuntu, pretty much out of the box. Perhaps the problem
is in the window manager or something? For lack of repeatability in
other applications, I am assuming this is a bug in evince, but I could
of course be wrong.

I am running dual monitors, the screen geometry as reported by xwininfo
-root is 3840x1080.

[Bug 1011418] Re: Move zz-update-grub to -common pacakge

2013-01-21 Thread Colin Watson
The reason I put this in grub-pc et al is that running update-grub when
the kernel is updated is part of GRUB owning the boot process, which is
part of the definition of grub-pc et al (as opposed to *-bin).

In your case, I think it would perhaps be better to have grub-kexec-bin
and grub-kexec packages, as we've discussed before.

[Bug 1100386] Re: Raring server installations on VMs fail to reboot after the installations

2013-01-21 Thread Parameswaran Sivatharman
This occurred during a virtual-host preseeded installation of amd64
raring server image. The VM hanged when booting normally and threw a
kernel panic when booting via recovery mode.

https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/view/Raring/view/Smoke%20Testing/job/raring-server-amd64-smoke-virtual-host/60/
is the impacted job

** Description changed:

Raring server installations with both amd64 and i386 fail to reboot
normally after the installations on VMs. This occurs with both amd64 and
i386 images when installing VMs, (using libvirt and virt-manager and
  also using VirtBox).

  1. Install raring server on a VM with no package selected, leaving the
default answers for the questions
  2. Reboot after the grub installation is complete

On i386 installations booting via the recovery mode causes "Kernel panic
  - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exit code 0x0600" as shown in
  the attached image.

- On amd64 installations booting via the recovery mode completes the
- booting successfully most of the time. Standard booting causes the
- similar type of hang as that in i386 cases. (please see the video
- attached)
+ Latest amd64 (20130121) installations with virtual-host package
+ selection also reported the kernel panic when booting via recovery mode
+ with the same message above, "Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to
+ kill init! exit code 0x0600".
+
+ Standard booting causes the similar type of hang as that in i386 cases.
+ (please see the video attached)

This issue can not be seen in hardware installations.

Re: [Bug 1081740] Re: Every tab named "New Tab"

2013-01-21 Thread Dražen Lučanin
You can mark this as invalid or fixed as far as I'm concerned - it was
due to one of my plugins, indeed. Going back to a "vanilla" Firefox
removed the issue.

Cheers,
Dražen

[Bug 1047566] Re: Memory leaks when using NFS

2013-01-21 Thread Esa Ollitervo
I've recently been wondering why my kvm server runs out of memory when I
try to run minecraft server on one virtual machine. It looks like the
problem is caused by this bug. I'm now running 3.2.0-36 on the host and
virtual machines but I still cannot run minecraft on the virtual machine
without idr_layer_cache growing endlessly until the server runs out of
memory.

The server is running stable if I don't try to run minecraft. If I do it
usually runs out of memory in a few hours.

On the server I have six virtual machines running.
The server has 18GB memory and virtual machines use only 8GB.
I have exported home directories from the server to virtual machines using
NFSv3.
The filesystem for home directories is formatted as XFS.

On the minecraft virtual machine I have 2GB memory and a lvm partition for
minecraft and other stuff.
The lvm partition resides on the same physical disk as the home directories.

[Bug 1047566] Re: Memory leaks when using NFS

2013-01-21 Thread Esa Ollitervo
Oh I forgot to mention that another virtual machine has problems even when
there's still memory left.
I cannot log in via ssh on the virtual machine and on the console there are few
messages like this:

task xx:xx blocked for more than 120 seconds.
