[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-11-14 Thread backstreetrover
I am also getting this bug and have observed it on 3 laptops.

My own laptop is a Lenovo z480 with 6gb ram and intel core i5 3210m ,
intel hd4000 graphics.

This one freezes ( complete freeze - no mouse , tty , anything ) once in
a week

Another old lenovo has same issue. It also freezes a little more
regularly.

I also observed this on a an old dell inspiron. On this particular
system it freezes on live CD itself and you cannot proceed with
installation. If wubi installation is done, then it freezes on booting
ubuntu after installation.

I suspect that any hardware that this bug affects will show the freeze
on live cd itself without needing to actually install ubuntu.

Why has this not been fixed by canonical yet
!

[Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration

2012-11-14 Thread Tobin Davis
I just heard about this bug, thought it was an old monitor I had, but
wasn't.

Now here's the rub. I have an x86 system that started showing this
issue when I upgraded to Precise from Lucid (32bit only for old reasons
- will reimage when I get a chance to backup 500G worth of development
stuff). My system is a Core2Quad with nVidia 9600GT, and I have dual
monitors setup using nVidia's Separate X Screens configuration. On my
main monitor, I get this issue. On the other monitor, I don't. Video
accelleration is active on both.

I tried installing libvdpau1_0.4.1-6ubuntu1_i386.deb, but it doesn't
appear to have changed anything for me. Will reboot tomorrow and see if
that helps.

Nevermind. Restarted firefox and it works now. Still, quite odd that it
worked on display=:0.1 but not display=:0.0.

[Bug 599255] Re: dmraid fails to read promise RAID sector count larger than 32-bits

2012-11-14 Thread Danny Wood
Ok,

After some testing I think I can confirm that the sector size is coming from
the pdc driver and not windows.
All the drives I created of various sizes with windows and gparted show up in
both operating systems and always have a sector size of 512.

So we need to change the sector size advertised by dmraid to accommodate
this, what is odd is that the metadata sector count is still 512 bytes /
sector just to confuse things.

[Bug 1078611] [NEW] System hangs on boot cause of wifi errors

2012-11-14 Thread BeowulfOF
Public bug reported:

beowulf@seashell:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

beowulf@seashell:~$ apt-cache policy linux
linux:
  Installiert: (keine)

Packages
 3.5.0.17.19 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages

Tried to just boot up the system as normally. But the systems stops
booting. Using [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL] to initiate reboot, lets the system
shut down, showing some debug(?) message vom iwlwifi.

Somehow I have the feeling, that whenever I boot into windows7, it does
something with the firmware of the wifi and ubuntu does not get things
right on boot. After reboot it usually works, so it seems ubuntu changes
some settings in the firmware maybe, so that at the next start it can
initialize wifi right away (but thats just a feeling).

[Bug 1069144] Re: Toshiba brightness control works until sleep

2012-11-14 Thread To Do
** Description changed:

  On my Toshiba Satellite R830, I have 12.10 AMD64. The Fn + F6, Fn + F7
buttons reduce/increase the brightness level of the screen. The issue is
- that they stop working after waking my computer from sleep.
+ that they stop working after waking my computer from sleep. When this
+ happens I cannot even control brightness by going to "System
+ Settings/Brightness and Lock". I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed before and I
+ had the same identical problem. Now I installed the upstream kernel
+ 3.7rc5 and the situation is even worse, because on wakeup, the
+ brightness is at 100% whereas on the standard kernel it remembers the
+ brightness value.

WORKAROUND: As root (not with sudo but actually changing user: su root),
change the value in sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness . For
instance:
  echo 2937 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
+
+ or better still:
+ echo 300 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness >
/dev/null

These values are not between 0 and 7 (as the ones in the other
directory), but between 284 and 4539, or something like that. Source is
  http://askubuntu.com/a/196863/27968 .

[Bug 1078236] Re: nil pointer error in tendra during optimization

2012-11-14 Thread David Henningsson
Hi Konstantin and thanks for your patch!

It looks like this is an upstream problem, and I doubt somebody in the Ubuntu
community is capable of giving a really good review of it.
Could you try to contact the upstream writers of this software, or if you don't
know who that actually is (I had some problems myself), contact
broo...@debian.org who is the current debian maintainer?

Thanks!

[Bug 1077696] Re: mounted samba share stops working for file access

2012-11-14 Thread Jussi H.
I'm using quantal 12.10 and gvfs 1.14

I have the same problem you can't kill VLC when it gets stuck which happens
about 50% of the you try to start video.
Same happens with GNOME mplayer if you open two of them to play same file.
Only way to kill all stuck processes is to kill gvfsd-smb.
Tried upgrading fuse to 2.9.2 since it has some kind deadlock fixes. I though
gvfsd-smb used fuse but building fuse and upgrading it to 2.9.2 didn't help.

gvfsd-fuse seems to be stuck as well. Because if i try to kill gvfsd-
fuse it doesn't get killed until gvfsd-smb is killed.

Stack traces.

According to the bug title, "LibreOffice Unity integration (launcher
and switcher) is broken", it should include all the recent issues with
the LibreOffice integration in Unity launcher and switcher. If it
supposed to fix only the issue of the generic LibreOffice icon in the
launcher, then the bug title should be changed.

BTW, I did restart the system before my testing.

[Bug 1078619] [NEW] [raring] xen power managment (freq scaling) fails on linux 3.7

2012-11-14 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

While testing the current 3.7.0-0.5 kernel together with the Xen 4.2
package I noticed that "xenpm get-cpufreq-para 0" would weirdly report
only one available frequency. Booting back into kernel 3.5.0-18.29 with
the same userspace shows the expected output:

cpu id : 0
affected_cpus: 0
cpuinfo frequency: max [200] min [80] cur [80]
scaling_driver :
scaling_avail_gov: userspace performance powersave ondemand
current_governor : ondemand
  ondemand specific :
sampling_rate: max [1000] min [1] cur [2]
up_threshold : 80
scaling_avail_freq : 200 150 120 100 *80
scaling frequency: max [200] min [80] cur [80]

Bad output on 3.7:

cpu id : 0
affected_cpus: 0
cpuinfo frequency: max [160] min [160] cur [160]
scaling_driver :
scaling_avail_gov: userspace performance powersave ondemand
current_governor : ondemand
  ondemand specific :
sampling_rate: max [1000] min [1] cur [2]
up_threshold : 80
scaling_avail_freq : *160 *160 *160 *160 *160
scaling frequency: max [160] min [160] cur [160]

[Bug 1073114] Re: Shopping Lens Does Not Respect User Privacy

2012-11-14 Thread cm-t arudy
@unimatrix9
If I understand what you said, in the installation process you have information
and choice about online results(...)
I think this is not a way to resolve fully this bug:
Only the user "admin" will be notified about his own privacy;
indeed data belong to every single users of the system. (It is the main reason
why we added the 'ballot screen' (https://launchpad.net/dash-privacy-interface)
launch at the start of all user first login in unity.)

2012-11-14 Thread David Henningsson
Hi and thanks for your patch!

I've turned your patch into a debdiff so it can be easily sponsored. I
hope some sponsor will deal with it soon!

(Also; this bug should be reported to Debian. But since even more
serious bugs seem to be left without action for this package, I guess
applying it here in short term is the right thing to do.)

Like to add that VLC and GNOME mplayer accesing same file doesn't always
deadlock but deadlocks most of the time.
My laptop is dual core, this deadlock might not happen with single core
computer.

[Bug 1078564] Re: single-key shortcuts in unity don't work

2012-11-14 Thread Maximilian Federle
I try to set the rotate keys on my Lenovo x230t, where you can turn the
screen. The keys show up fine in the system settings when I assign them
to a action, for example a custom shortcut which launches gedit.

The one shows up as "0xa1" and the other one as "RotateWindows". As I
noted just today, the 0xa1 key is "free" for xbindkeys right from the
beginning when I start unity. RotateWindows requires the above mentioned
method of setting it in unity and then unsetting.

I tried setting shortcuts in ccsm, but found no plugin for all-purpose
shortcuts. Therefore I experimented with changing shortcuts of unity
itself. Here I noted that setting the "RotateWindows" to some action (I
chose open panel menu) works decently. It shows up as Xf86RotateWindows
though. On the other hand setting 0xa1 is impossible. CCSM will just not
recognize it when I press it.

So I summarize:

1) In the keyboard settings I can set both keys to actions although they won't
work. However I can "free" keys for xbindkeys this way.
2) In CCSM I can only set the RotateWindows key, this works then. 0xa1 (161)
gets ignored.
3) If I start xbindkeys, it can get a hold of 0xa1 by default, RotateWindows
gets only free to grab if I set and unset it again in the keyboard settings.

I'm interested in doing any diagnostical work required. Thanks for
having a look at this issue!

[Bug 1077434] Re: Apache 2.2.14 Server Status no longer available

2012-11-14 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

I've failed to reproduce this on Lucid. http://127.0.0.1/server-status
works for me. I also installed apache2 on Hardy, verified that server-
status works, upgraded to Lucid and verified that it still works.

Please can you explain why you think this is a bug, rather than a
configuration issue on your system? Have you tried using https as the
error message describes? If this is a configuration issue, there are
pointers to get help here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community.

Since it seems likely that this is a configuration issue related to your
upgrade and related SSL configuration, and not a bug, I'm marking this
bug as Invalid.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
including steps to reproduce, and then change the bug status back to
New.

[Bug 1064962] Re: [SRU] Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-11-14 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
SRU verification for Quantal:
I have reproduced the problem with libreoffice 1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu3 in quantal
and have verified that the version of libreoffice 1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4 in
-proposed fixes the issue.

There is still an issue where the menu from the previous LO application
is open e.g. open a spreadsheet, close it, open an odt or odp, the menu
displayed is from localc

The workaround is to open the document from LO instead of nautilus.

Overall, it's better than no menu at all and it's an improvement.

[Bug 1069262] Re: I have the same problem with two upgraded versions of Ubuntu 32bit 12.10. USB, alternate partitions of the boot drive are not available. They can be manually mounted via sudo mount,

2012-11-14 Thread Stefan Czinczoll
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1048059 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1048059

See bug #1048059: The workaround is to open a terminal, then enter the
following without comments, $USERNAME being a variable. Here you should
fill in your actual username:

# Add a folder
sudo mkdir /media/$USERNAME

# assign the folder to my user
sudo chown $USERNAME.$USERNAME /media/$USERNAME

Please give feedback wether this helps.

Kind regards,

Stefan

[Bug 1075234] Re: doesn't work with YP/NIS server defined in /etc/yp.conf

2012-11-14 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I am unable to reproduce this bug. There is logic in
/etc/init/ypbind.conf to clear the BROADCAST variable after it is set if
yp.conf defines ypserver, and this seems to be working for me with your
/etc/yp.conf. I am using 3.17-32ubuntu4.1.

Please could you provide precise steps to reproduce this problem on a
freshly installed 12.04.1 system?

I also have this problem. I used 12.04 without problems for 6 months and

booting.

I have a intel 120gb SSD with 4 partitions. Ubuntu 12.10 (64bit) is only

[Bug 1078487] Re: usb creator crashes after asking for password

2012-11-14 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
I do not believe that this is a bug in reviewing the UsbCreatorLog I can
see that the reason the application crashed was because you did not
provide a correct password.

I would encourage you to read about User Management in Ubuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/serverguide/user-management.html

Then check your password and try again and if that does not resolve the
issue please comment back here so we can help you further.
