[Bug 1043149] Re: [regression since 12.04] ntfs-3g refuses to mount Windows8 not using hibernation
AFAIK, leaving Windows 8 by selecting "restart" and rebooting to Linux is safe. Also using the Windows dual-boot manager is safe, because it syncs the cached data to disk before starting another OS. The unsafe situation is booting directly into another OS through another boot manager such as grub. The test based on hiberfil.sys is only relevant for the Windows system partition. Testing the logfile is apparently better (mind the single quotes, and replace win8 by your mount point) : head -c 30 '/win8/$LogFile' | tail -c 4 | od -t x1 If you get "01 00 01 00" you are in a safe situation, if you get "00 00 02 00" you are in an unsafe situation. This is to be confirmed, please report what you get. You would guess that no ntfs-3g version if able to play the new rules, so beware. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043149 Title: [regression since 12.04] ntfs-3g refuses to mount Windows8 not using hibernation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/1043149/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1050918] Re: Segmentation fault when exiting python after importing pyexiv2
For some reason, instantiating the exiv2_version tuple outside of the boost module declaration causes the segfault, whereas it previously worked. This is easily fixed by moving the instantiation inside the BOOST_PYTHON_MODULE block. ** Changed in: pyexiv2 Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Branch linked: lp:~osomon/pyexiv2/version_tuple_local -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050918 Title: Segmentation fault when exiting python after importing pyexiv2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pyexiv2/+bug/1050918/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry - I run under KDE usually and the recording device doesn't appear in kmixer. It's quite possible that this is a KDE bug though, but having said that the other pulse devices appear fine. The emulated PSEye device also appears if I load the alsa source module in PA. It does appear fine in KDE's hardware settings though, so it seems as though it's just the mixer that's broken. > As for the log, it seems like the eye is properly detected (except for > the mixer error) I suspect the mixer error is pertinent :) > both at startup and after plug/unplug. Re: [Bug 1008117] [NEW] Nautilus suggests option for mounting hibernated ntfs partitions that could lead to data loss
Similarly, this bug was not filed because of the mounting denial, but rather because the denial lists the command for a potential dangerous action without explaining what it would do and the data loss it could cause. [Bug 1049612] Re: Libre Offices global menu does not appear randomly when opening the application
Bug still exist with kernel 3.5.0-15 and after system update up to 9/21 (after Beta 2 freeze). I confirm what wrote Shanekiper, whic is that when I sudo apt-get remove libreoffice-gtk then, I can use the Libreoffice in a "windows like" design. When I re- install it (actually libreoffice-gtk 1:3.6.1~rc2-1ubuntu5 ) then the bug re-appears. Along with it seems another bug: selecting text on screen (on Writer) to cut or copy is instable. The selection usually vanish before I have a chance to Ctrl-C. In the "windows like" environment the behaviour is normal. [Bug 1023755] Re: Precise kernel locks up while dd to /dev/mapper files > 1Gb (was: Unable to delete volume)
Just while thinking about it (not yet run a reproduction), I think I can guess around where the problem might be. Both the original volume and the snapshot are set to 2G (at least in the example). The way a snapshot volume works is that it contains a mapping table. Sectors that have not changed in either the original or the snapshot will refer to the original volume. Changes to the origin will cause a copy of the original sector into the exception storage and the table to be updated to point to the exception storage. Writes to the snapshot go into the exception storage directly and the table is updated as before. For this reason the snapshot volume is not a plain volume but is used to store the mapping table and the exception sectors. The table gets bigger with the original volume's size. So I guess around this 2G size a 2G snapshot cannot store exceptions to all sectors, which is what happens when zeroing the whole origin. Theoretically I would think a write should return an error in that case. But maybe this is a problem caused by having the VG mapped onto a loop device. Also the whole system hanging is unexpected. Could the lack of propagating IO error possibly cause the dd not to see the end of the device, so in the end all memory is exhausted by buffers that cannot be written? This potentially can be a problem too, if the user of the used device (I assume the origin is used to export and allow its user to update the contents while the snapshot retains the unmodified state) happens to modify _all_ sectors (though I think that will be quite rare. So much for theories. Need to find out whether that is actually true. Might be worth trying to make the snapshot a bit bigger and see what happens. Ultimately I guess one wants to convert the snapshot storage into a linear volume and then erase it (or have it erased while dropping). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1023755 Title: Precise kernel locks up while dd to /dev/mapper files > 1Gb (was: Unable to delete volume) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cinder/+bug/1023755/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance!
