[Bug 779986] Re: system configuration (post-oem) crashes on user creation

2012-08-21 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) oem-config also has this issue if user enters weak
password in oem-config phase, then oem-config phase newer ends :(
I can send a log file, but I think you don't need it, because bug is very easy
to reproduce - simply enter a weak password, for example one letter :)

[Bug 830099] Re: Mouse stopped moving - touchpad still responds

2012-08-21 Thread Ivan Zakharyaschev
@kroq-gar78: I'd rather call this (switching to the text linux console)
a "workaround" rather than a real fix.

Did you mean this? Or do you know of another real fix for this bug?

I learned it from a comment by Azrael Tod on a similar bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
ac100/+bug/1035208/comments/15 .

[Bug 990749] Re: Vc032x Vimicro webcam not supported in 12.04

2012-08-21 Thread Alan
Same problem with kernel 3.2.0-29-generic-pae.
Updated gspca driver (http://moinejf.free.fr/gspca-2.15.18.tar.gz) did not
solve the problem for me.
Cheese still fails shortly after showing scrambled green screen and dmesg shows
the same ISOC data errors as in bug description.

[Bug 1039399] [NEW] Error in address format in vcard export from jPilot

2012-08-21 Thread John McCreesh
Public bug reported:

With jPilot 1.8.1.1, from the address book: File -> Export vCard
(optimised for GMail/Android Import) uses the tag "ADDR;" for addresses.
However, this is not recognised by Google Contacts, which expects the

[Bug 1039401] [NEW] Illegal instruction (int main() returns nothing, only when -O2/-O3 used)

If I add "return 0;" to the end of function - problem is fixed. I understand,

[Bug 1039094] Re: Candidate revision checkbox_0.14.4

2012-08-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package checkbox - 0.14.4

---
checkbox (0.14.4) quantal; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #1039094)

  [ Daniel Manrique ]
  * New version 0.14.4 for Quantal Quetzal development.
  * Added new audio_test and test definitions.

  [Jeff Lane]
  * jobs/esata.txt.in: added tests for removable eSATA drives
scripts/removable_storage_test: added support for ata_serial_esata devices
scripts/removable_storage_watcher: added support for ata_serial_esata
devices
  * scripts/optical_write_test: changed behaviour to timeout after 5 minutes
rather than a few seconds to give testers a chance to complete the test
without having to sit on top of the machine waiting. If tester doesn't hit
itself and proceed.
jobs/optical.txt.in: Cleared up text in the existing manual optical write
tests and added two automated tests that can be used if desired (they still
require the user to push the tray in after writing, but eliminate other
steps)
  * scripts/graphics_driver: Added this script based to parse Xorg.0.log and
discover the currently running graphics driver and driver version
jobs/graphics.txt.in: Added a new job to take advantage of the
graphics_driver script.
data/whitelists/default.whitelist: Added the graphics_driver job to the
default whitelist because this would be good data to gather for UF and
doesn't cost much
  * scripts/graphics_driver: Merged Alberto Milone's work on a
hybrid_graphics_test into graphics_driver as his stuff and my stuff were
similar enough to be in the same script, plus this allows the advantage of
using Bryce Harrington's xorglog library down the road.
  * scripts/removable_storage_test: removed a lot of unnecessary output to
clean up the test run and also added in some basic performance monitoring.

  [Sylvain Pineau]
  * jobs/graphics.txt.in, jobs/benchmarks.txt.in: Move gtkperk to the benchmarks
section.
  * jobs/benchmarks.txt.in, scripts/wifi_time2reconnect: Add a test to monitor
the time needed to reconnect to a WIFI access point.
  * jobs/cpu.txt.in: Added a check for ARM Vector Floating Point Unit support.
  * jobs/touchscreen.txt.in: Add 3 new manual tests (tap-detect, drag-n-drop and
multitouch-zoom)
  * jobs/audio.txt.in: Added a test that verifies that the various audio
channels are working properly.
  * scripts/camera_test, jobs/camera.txt.in: Replace the call to "xawtv -hwscan"
in camera_test by the VIDIOC_QUERYCAP ioctl, xawtv requirement removed.
  * jobs/led.txt.in, jobs/local.txt.in, scripts/led_hdd_test.py: Add LED
tests.
  * jobs/suspend.txt.in: Resurrect scripts/sleep_test as a fallback of fwts for
the suspend/suspend_advanced test.

  [Brendan Donegan]
  * scripts/audio_settings: Converted script from Perl to Python(3), putting
it in line with approved technology guidelines
  * jobs/audio.txt.in: Fixed audio jobs to use --file option of audio_settings
instead of piping to STDOUT.
  * Prettify the Step icons that appear next to each test step in the test run
screen (LP: #1036085)
  * Remove the 'Don't show this message on startup' checkbox from the
introduction screen, since it isn't used (LP: #1036218)
  * Continue to run the progress bar when the test dependencies are being
resolved so that it doesn't look like the UI hung (LP: #1036573)
  * Remove gcov_attachment from default whitelist since it depends on lcov
which is not in the default install, and is not used anyway.

  [Nathan Williams]
  * scripts/network_check: Fixed exception handling in the absence of zenity
(LP: #988260)

  [Samantha Jian]
  * Added disk spindown test script and definition.
  * Added support for BT devices on PCI bus. (LP: #1036124)

  [Jeff Marcom]
  * Added Accelerometer test.
  * scripts/gst_pipeline_test, jobs/audio.txt.in: Added device sink check

  [Matt Fischer]
  * Added test to check that volume is within acceptable range and audio
elements are not muted.
  * scripts/camera_test: added the resolutions option to take sample pictures
in all resolutions supported by the specified webcam
jobs/camera.txt.in: added the camera/multiple-resolution-images test which
utilitizes the changes to the camera_test script

  [Alberto Milone]
  * checkbox/contrib/gdk.py: Added library for getting gtk.gdk.Screen object
checkbox/contrib/xrandr.py: Added library for manipulating graphics
settings similar to how xrandr does it.
scripts/brightness_test: Added automated test to verify that backlight
settings are properly honored
scripts/color_depth_info: Added script to get info on color depth and pixel
format
scripts/graphics_modes_info: Added script to gather info on the supported
graphics modes available
scripts/rotation_test: Added script to automate screen rotation testing
jobs/graphics.txt.in, jobs/monitor.txt.in: Added jobs to take advantage of
the new scripts added

[Bug 1028806] Re: 046d:c52b Cannot use logitech mouse M324 (Unifying Receiver)

2012-08-21 Thread robert.vertesi
I have a similar problem with somewhat different hardware. I use a Lenovo u300s
and a Logitech M310 set.
When the receiver is plugged in the USB3 port the keyboard works fine but the
mouse does not.
You can see it detected when you list xinput however.
In the USB2 port they both work fine.

bash: /live/root/etc/resolv.conf: Permission denied

This permission error does not happen with a local filesystem but only

[Bug 57050] Re: Brother HL-1430 USB printer will only print once

2012-08-21 Thread Arie Maaskant
It looks like the bug returned in the beginning of August on Ubuntu 12.04
(64bit)
See the text in #1038695

"After an update of cups from 1.5.3-0ubuntu1 to 1.5.3-0ubuntu3 my
HL-1430 laserprinter is left in a wrong state. If I print a Libreoffice text
file containing two png images. It is impossible two print after this,
it takes very long to print afterwards and it is printing a blank page
at the most. After a powercycle of the printer, printing is possible again.
This only takes place on my 64-bits computer with Ubuntu12.04 64bits.
A simple Libre-office textfile with only text does not give any problem.

On the same computer there is a Ubuntu11.10 32bit system updated upto
cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu3 too. This doesn't give any problems at all, with the
same Libre-office file.

My (ugly) solution was to restore an old root-filesystem of 27 July 2012
and updating the system upto now *EXCEPT* cups.
I now have a completely updated the system with cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu1 (!) and
wait for updating cups until this bug has been fixed."

[Bug 1039155] Re: Unity fails to load on old hardware. Missing automatic fallback to LLVMpipe

2012-08-21 Thread Colin Law
There must still be a test in the system somewhere because on my Toshiba
laptop with i945 graphics it will support unity on the laptop screen,
but if an external screen is plugged in so that the virtual desktop is
greater then 2048 pixels the hardware will not support it. In that case
(on quantal) a dialog pops up telling me that the I cannot do this and I
must select unity-2d at login prompt (!). See bug #1039051

[Bug 1001028] Re: Delay after every print job on USB

2012-08-21 Thread Rocklobster
I have to count about 20 seconds between job to ensure print success
else jobs don't get printed. Sometimes they don't print after the
printers warm-up cycle ends. Bidirectional worked fine for many years.
Please just reinstate the old behaviour as I don't think unidirectional
is working either.

Here are my printers.conf, lsusb and syslog error.

[Bug 1039405] [NEW] Lockups when running vm's with 768MB of memory

2012-08-21 Thread karl anliot
Public bug reported:

version tested: ubiquity 2.10.20 on 12.04.1 daily build.
$md5sum precise-desktop-amd64.iso
64cae667e6fde29ea86043ede5e79493  precise-desktop-amd64.iso

Reproducing:
setup a new KVM machine with 768 MB of ram. (because users were reporting
crashes with 768)

*after booting, select try Ubuntu
* start the installer, but not anything else.
* select "something else"
since the disk has no parition table, click to create a "new partition table
create an 888 megabyte swap at the end of the disk
create a 7701 M swap at the beginning of the disk.
Ubiquity crashes when clicking to the next screen.

you'll notice that the syslog has a: OSError: [Errno 12] Cannot allocate
memory.

To fix this bug, ubiquity should not be installing on PC's with too little RAM,
especially when crashes are so consistent.
Ubiquity should CLEARLY warn about crashes on low-ram machines.

here's the syslog and other stuff:

The stable PPA should contain the fix, its built directly from
stable/essex branch. Dont use those for production tho, its a testing PPA.

We're prepping the 2012.1.2 update into Ubuntu this week, should be out
soon. I"ll let you know when its available for testing.

[Bug 842768] Re: Cups notifies "printer ' xxx ' may be not connected " although printer is OK and printing is OK too

2012-08-21 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I'm using the gnome-fallback session with Ubuntu Precise, as Unity doesn't work
with thin clients (LTSP).
The first time I print a job, the notification area shows "Error:
connecting-to-device", but printing completes successfully.
This confuses students, which try to send their jobs again, resulting in
duplicate prints.

Any plans on fixing this? Where can I help, revise the proposed patch?

[Bug 831768] Re: aptitude cannot handle conflicts with multiarch enabled

2012-08-21 Thread Daniel Hartwig
An update for Oneiric should also include the fixes for other serious
multi-arch issues. At least Bug #845136 and Bug #904486. Without these
multi-arch on that release is still effectively broken; IMO those bugs
should be nominated also for Oneiric.

The specific patches for those issues may be fairly entangled, it may be
easier to update Oneiric to at least 0.6.6 instead (currently at 0.6.4).
My time as upstream maintainer is limited and I will definitely not be
able to backport those fixes (or others that may arise) to 0.6.4.

[Bug 1039051] Re: Unity will not run with dual screens on Intel 940/943/945 graphics

2012-08-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 824099 ***

I think this is the maximum texture size your hardware/driver can
handle. I believe the workaround for that is the enable the "Copy to
texture" plugin in CCSM.

It's a very old problem. If you dig deep enough you'll find plenty of
bug reports about it.

Ok, my system is fully updated. I enabled the Gwibber plugin (clicked
"Gwibber", it took a few seconds before the checkbox was updated and the
Gwibber plugin settings appeared). Kupfer crashed after a few seconds. I
started it again, went to the plugins window again and Gwibber was
disabled. With Gwibber disabled, kupfer stays up.

[Bug 1009536] Re: Ubuntu 12.04/7.0.24/ Seti@home

2012-08-21 Thread Steffen Möller
Hello, after rereading about that SETI issue I have to admit that my
answer was wrong. Jonathan was right by pointing out that the SETI
scientific app seeks older symbolic libraries.

This what it should look like

$ ldd `dpkg -L boinc-app-seti | grep setiathome`
linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x7fff73b71000)
libboinc_api.so.7 => /usr/lib/libboinc_api.so.7 (0x7f1d8825f000)
libfftw3f.so.3 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfftw3f.so.3
(0x7f1d87e5c000)
libssl.so.1.0.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0
(0x7f1d87bfd000)
libcrypto.so.1.0.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0
(0x7f1d87819000)
libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6
(0x7f1d87512000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0x7f1d8728f000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1
(0x7f1d87079000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0
(0x7f1d86e5d000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7f1d86ad5000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0x7f1d868d1000)
libz.so.1 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libz.so.1 (0x7f1d866ba000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7f1d8849a000)

$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libboinc_api.so.7
boinc-dev: /usr/lib/libboinc_api.so.7

$ dpkg -l boinc-dev|grep boinc-dev|awk '{print $2,$3}'
boinc-dev 7.0.27+dfsg-5

This is the boinc client from Debian Wheezy (testing) and boinc-app-seti
just uploaded to sid (unstable). 7.0.27 should work for about
everything. 7.0.33 is still in the Debian new queue, with the ftpmaters
uncertain if they should let it in because of an uncertain transition to
testing in those last freeze days. I am still hoping for it. 7.0.34 is
in the git repository for the unfrozen Ubuntu to adopt. Works for me.

Steffen

@Jonathan with his SETI limitation - this is because SETI thinks that it
has sent you enough workunits for that day. That limit will go up once
the client works and workunits have been validated successfully.

[Bug 810622] Re: Invites can only be accepted into local calendars

2012-08-21 Thread kenjo
I have been trying to understand what is happening here but I still
don't get what the real problem is.

where is the problem located?? could anyone that understand this please
explain what it is that needs to be changed.

I have several computers and having invites in a local calendar is
completely non functional. and I have not found a way to get the invite
into google calendar or even how to move it from one calendar to the
other once its created. copy past just creates an empty one and there
is no move option.

Don't really understand how ubuntu can change the default mailreader and
not have it working with google.

[Bug 1006293] Re: exiqgrep fails to parse output of exim4 -bp if the mail message is less than 1k

2012-08-21 Thread Daniel Bond
Is there any chance of this being fixed via StableReleaseUpdates (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates ) ? Or perhaps it would be
better to request a backport for it?

On a busy production Exim4 server, there will almost allways be an email
in queue, with a size less than 1K. This makes exiqgrep not work, which
again makes monitoring with munin not work. Without monitoring, 12.04 is
not ideal for running production Exim server.

[Bug 1039420] [NEW] NTP security vulnerability because not using authentication by default

2012-08-21 Thread Alba Nader
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Ubuntu implements so much security one way or another. So much defenses
against network level man in the middle or malicious proxies or wifi
hotspots. Cryptographic verification generally works well but there is
one big drawback: it requires correct date/time.

NTP in Ubuntu does not use any authentication by default, although it is
supported by NTP.

I conclude, that almost no one is using authenticated NTP, because there
are no instructions in a forum or blog how to enable NTP authentication.
Therefore almost everyone uses standard configuration and is at risk.

An adversary can tamper with the unauthenticated NTP replies and put the
users time several years back, especially, but not limited, if the bios
battery or hardware clock is defect. That issue becomes more relevant
with new devices like RP, which do not even have a hardware clock.

Putting the clock several years back allows an adversary to use already
revoked, broken, expired certificates; replay old, broken, outdated,
known vulnerable updates etc.

No need to keep this private. Has been publicly discussed but without
proper bug report and the discussion felt into oblivion.

[Bug 1009536] Re: Ubuntu 12.04/7.0.24/ Seti@home

2012-08-21 Thread LocutusOfBorg
I'm building 7.0.34 right now and it will be available in my ppa "boinc"
hopefully tomorrow, unfortunately after a general build farm upgrade the
queue of builders is really high and I really don't know how many days
will take to empty it.

After this I'll upgrade boinc-app-seti too.

[Bug 1039422] [NEW] Poor visibility of selected window when switching windows

2012-08-21 Thread Martin Wildam
Public bug reported:

According to http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/29861/
here my bug report:

When switching windows in Unity (no matter how switcher is triggered),
the selected window cannot not be well distinguished. With a little
sunlight it is nearly impossible. Affects dark and light Ubuntu default
theme.

Proposed solution: Draw a red rectangle around the selected window
thumbnail - this would work for whatever theme is the current.

Examples for window switch trigger:

a) Clicking on the browser launcher icon when more than one browser windows are
open
b) Pressing ALT+TAB until you get to an app with more windows open and those
windows are presented as thumbnails allowing you to navigate within those
windows.

[Bug 1039421] [NEW] Cannot find module '/usr/lib/nodejs/pg/../build/default/binding'

2012-08-21 Thread soletan
Public bug reported:

I tried to install PostgreSQL to be used with NodejS on a Ubuntu Precise
12.04 LTS system using this invocation of apt-get:

# apt-get install postgresql postgresql-client nodejs libnode-pg

Next I try to invoke a snippet like this:

#!/usr/bin/node
var pg = require( "pg" ).native;

This is throwing exception in module loading as given in subject.

Another warning is rendered before exception's trace reading:

The "sys" module is now called "util". It should have a similar
interface.

[Bug 985675] Re: Launcher: Improved accordion effect behavior by prioritizing running applications.

2012-08-21 Thread John Lea
** Description changed:

  I have a bit of apps locked into my Unity panel. While I use all of them
  pretty often, I don't use them all at the same time. Also, there are
  many apps that I use that don't really make sense being locked in the
  panel, for example gedit, eye of gnome, totem.

  All those locked apps waste precious space from the panel while they're
  not really needed (unless you plan launching them), while the
  applications actually running (and not locked) usually get stacked at
  the bottom of the panel thanks to Unity's accordion effect.

  It would be great if Unity would prioritize running apps and show their
  icons properly if possible while stacking the locked apps that are
  closed by using the accordion effect.

  This behavior tweak would improve task management and make it easier to
  see what apps are running, which makes more sense than displaying better
  which apps you could run.
