[Bug 973778] Re: Unable to connect to Xfce Power Manager
Just to update- My installation was done as regular Ubuntu, using Unity. I had later added Xubuntu Desktop package, as Unity was too resource hungry on this machine. (AMD dual core 11.9ghz, 4gb DDR2, 32gb ssd). This issue started manifesting probably a couple days ago, and I recall seeing a unity update prior to this occurring. Anyway, this evening I removed Unity, gnome-power-manager and gnome- session components related to power, and also removed indicator-power (which also triggered a few other auto-removals related to the gnome/unity session). After doing this, I rebooted. LightDM did not load up after this reboot, but stayed at a black screen. I switched to tty1 and logged in via CLI. I removed and reinstalled LightDM, which made it default to Xubuntu desktop as its default session. Another reboot, and I have a LightDM session screen, and upon login, the XFCE power indicator applet is present in the panel, and I can access the power settings from the settings manger. So it would appear there's now some sort of conflict between gnome-power and xfce-power when they are both installed under LightDM. Hopefully this is helpful, but this is just my experience. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973778 Title: Unable to connect to Xfce Power Manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/973778/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 999638] Re: Acer Aspire One 722 doesn't resume from suspend
Machine: ASPIRE 5741 OS: Ubuntu 12.04 (kernel updated to 3.2.0-29-generic) Symptom: screen remains black after resume from suspend, power LED is on, HDD light continuously blinking Hi guys, I had the above problem and have been looking for the solution. Last night, I realise that it actually my machine displays login screen (and I can login) but LED back light is off so I couldn't see it. This issue is very similar to what I had during the Ubuntu 12.04 installation, thus I tried a solution in the same line. SOLUTION WORKED FOR MY CASE: 1. open grub file by: sudo vim /etc/default/grub 2. modify the corresponding lines as: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=Linux" 3. reboot grub by: sudo update-grub. [Bug 1036062] [NEW] user must find windows that block shutdown
Public bug reported: 1. configure your environment to use 10 desktops (the number is not really important, but I use 10) 2. on each desktop, open some application windows (Eclipse, web browsers, terminal, android's abd logcat, mc, etc) 3. spend some time working; when you see a text that looks important, open a gedit window and copy the important text there. 4. select shutdown in Gnome Actual: shutdown is blocked; you can cancel it but to review the unsaved documents you have to locate them yourself, looking through all your desktops and all your windows Expected: shutdown is blocked, but you can review all unsaved documents without cancelling the shutdown; there's a "magic button" that causes the next unsaved document to appear on the _current_ desktop _on_top_ of other windows so that you can read it and decide what to do with it. PS I hate such shutdowns, but some updates require it, and the software (including Eclipse) sometimes glitches, making me suspect a global resource leak. [Bug 996568] Re: Ubiquity 2.10.16: Lubuntu 12.04 Install Crash on slideshow
What is worst is one issue that may be a complementary bug. In my case the installer crashes on an old notebook HP OmniBook EX3. It is Celeron with 384MB RAM and Intel VGA. On this notebook both Lubuntu and Xubuntu installed slide crashes... so I tried both the Alternate versions. With both of them, CD starts reading, but just some 10 seconds and nothing appear on the screen. Obviously it is not matter of the cd burned used for the CD creation. CDs are Sony and the burner is the same used for the desktop installations. When finally I've been able to install Xubuntu, the result has been really bad. During the live session, the screen resolution was detected and setup correctly, but during installation, some packages (upgrades) have been downloaded from the internet and when the system booted for the first time, the screen resolution was wrong. PLEASE NOTE that I DIDN'T checked the "download updates" check-mark. Now I'm going to reinstall it with network cable disconnected. I had the same problem at my Dell Vostro 1500 with NVidia GeForce 8400M GS with both nvidia-current driver and latest driver from NVidia official site. The problem was solved for me using nvidia-current driver by disabling PXE-boot ability for LAN at BIOS. [Bug 1023931]
CVE-2012-3867 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2012-3867): lib/puppet/ssl/certificate_authority.rb in Puppet before 2.6.17 and 2.7.x before 2.7.18, and Puppet Enterprise before 2.5.2, does not properly restrict the characters in the Common Name field of a Certificate Signing Request (CSR), which makes it easier for user-assisted remote attackers to trick administrators into signing a crafted agent certificate via ANSI control sequences. CVE-2012-3866 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2012-3866): lib/puppet/defaults.rb in Puppet 2.7.x before 2.7.18, and Puppet Enterprise before 2.5.2, uses 0644 permissions for last_run_report.yaml, which allows local users to obtain sensitive configuration information by leveraging access to the puppet master server to read this file. CVE-2012-3865 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2012-3865): Directory traversal vulnerability in lib/puppet/reports/store.rb in Puppet before 2.6.17 and 2.7.x before 2.7.18, and Puppet Enterprise before 2.5.2, when Delete is enabled in auth.conf, allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary files on the puppet master server via a .. (dot dot) in a node name. CVE-2012-3864 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2012-3864): Puppet before 2.6.17 and 2.7.x before 2.7.18, and Puppet Enterprise before 2.5.2, allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary files on the puppet master server by leveraging an arbitrary user's certificate and private key in a GET request. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1023931 Title: (CVE-2012-3864) puppet: multiple vulnerabilities for 2.7.17 and earlier releases (CVE-(2012-{3408,3864,3865,3866,3867}) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/puppet/+bug/1023931/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 946311]
I have a new Macbook Air 2012 Model and it seems that I have the same problem as reported here. An older kernel version 3.3 works fine, where as newer ones give me a black screen. Daniel asked me to test the latest patch from here. I applied "Check combined VBT/register delay" on top of todays drm-intel-next (20d5a540 drm/i915: don't grab dev->struct_mutex for userspace forcewak). Eventually the screen is black again. But there is a small difference: before it turns black I see kernel boot message (booted without the 'quiet' argument). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946311 Title: only external screen is working with asus zenbook ux31e [eDP1] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/946311/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

i think it's a me, too. it happens about every 5th time when my laptop tries to wake up from sleep. it got introduced somewhat recently, because i keep my debian testing more or less up to date, and it started to happen about a month ago. on debian testing, on a Dell Latitude E6320: Linux xxx 3.2.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Thu Jun 28 09:07:26 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux below are some pieces of backtraces that i copied by hand. unfortunately the screen gets updated every few seconds with different backtraces (of different CPU's?), so i could only copy portions of the backtraces. a newline below means its from a different backtrace. [Bug 1036038]
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1036038/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1008344] Re: [Precise] Language selector won't allow me to install languages
Ok, so I added the group I am in as an AdminIdentity in this file. However, in the language selector, the relevant buttons are still grayed out. I am very confident that my change to /etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/ is right, because it actually changed something for the user account administration that is also part of gnome-control-center. Previously this would ask me for the root password, now I am able to unlock the settings there with my own password (or one of the other accounts in the new admin group). [Bug 882254] Re: /etc/rc.local is not executed at startup
@Matt Miller: The shebang in the rc.local script reads "#!/bin/bash -e", where the "-e" means that the script will immediately stop if any command in the script fails. The fact that file 2 did not appear on your desktop means that there was a problem with your "xbacklight" command. Some playing around shows that rc.local runs pretty early on compared to other things when the system is booting. It's completely possible that you're trying to run "xbacklight" too early (e.g., the X server probably hadn't even started yet) and it had failed as a result. Try putting a short pause before you run that command; do this by adding the line "sleep 30" before the line where you're trying to dim the screen. This tells the machine to wait 30 seconds (or whatever amount of time you want) before moving on to the next line of the script. I'm willing to bet that this will fix the problem that you're having, as well as Lindsey334's and Chad William's. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882254 Title: /etc/rc.local is not executed at startup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysvinit/+bug/882254/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1036093] [NEW] nova volume-attach with high device name keeps volume in state "attaching"
Public bug reported: If I attach a volume to a high device name, e.g. /dev/vdm nova volume-attach f91e2097-5e2f-47df-90ea-f6da292df41b 4072 /dev/vdm then nothing happens within the instance and the volume is in the state "attaching". According to the logs the iscsi attach works and the lv is in use by tgt. After that, I am unable to detach the volume or shutdown the instance. The first device that causes the problem is /dev/vdk which means the first 10 letters a-j are working fine. ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1036093 Title: nova volume-attach with high device name keeps volume in state "attaching" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/+bug/1036093/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
