[Bug 993162] Re: No sound from Front Panel Headphone jack (ALC892 HD Audio)
Hello Chirag, According to your BIOS, you don't have a headphone jack, but a front line-out jack. You can try correcting this using the hda-jack-retask program: see http://voices.canonical.com/david.henningsson/2011/11/29 /turn-your-mic-jack-into-a-headphone-jack/ for an introduction to this software. It's likely node 0x1b that's the front headphone jack, try overriding it from "Line-Out" to "Headphone" in hda-jack-retask and let us know if this resolved your problem. [Bug 988312] Re: launchpad-service-status can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType
** Description changed: [Impact] The launchpad-service-status script indicates whether or not Launchpad is available. lpltk clients use this tool to determine whether they will fail if they attempt to run. One of the things the tool does to achieve this is to check the Launchpad blog for planned outages. However, if there are no planned outages listed in the feed, the tool fails due to undefined values. [Development Fix] The 2.x development series includes a fix that checks the results of the blog screenscraping before attempting to use it. This 2.0 branch is uploaded to quantal. [Stable Fix] The same fix applies on the 1.x stable series, which is being proposed for precise. This just adds a check for None values before using them. + This particular change just adds a check for None values before using them, it's unlikely to cause a regression. + + There are some other changes included in 1.0, all of which are believed + safe but the quantity of code changed means regressions are always + possible. I feel this is a negligible risk though, because two of the + bug fixes included in 1.0 address API changes in Launchpad that occurred + a few months ago, and scripts written using the current (0.5) lpltk + simply won't work. + + As per UDS decisions, we're trying to shift into a more normal release + process. However to date, most users of lpltk that I'm aware of install + and run from bzr due to problems such as those mentioned above. Looks like Thunar has some cache of information about files it's seen, and creating the directory from within Thunar got it to remove/update the invalid entry. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852410 Title: Thunar crashed with SIGSEGV in thunarx_menu_provider_get_file_actions() thinking a directory was a file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunar/+bug/852410/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 975258] Re: Search misses matching packages
For me NFS seems to match nfs-common (it is the fourth element in the search results), however it's not shown by default, I had to click Show technical items on the bottom of the pane to see it, otherwise I had only three results, and nfs-common was not there. [Bug 988312] Re: launchpad-service-status can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType
Ah, didn't realize that 0.5 didn't already include all these changes. Yes they're all quite necessary. In fact the fix_time() function is so critical that the current 0.5 release included in precise probably doesn't work at all. It's a fix for an unannounced Launchpad API change that hit us a few months back. There is some cleanup included which is unnecessary of course but corrects some rather stupidly lazy packaging work on my part. I've updated the changelog to itemize all the changes. Mostly everything is to fix problems people have run into, although there's also a new script and a couple new routines added; all quite safe but if they bug you I can revert them, they're not critical. To date most people have been running lpltk from bzr, so we don't have bug reports on the problems - we would just fix bzr and users would re-pull. We're planning to change to a more formal model with releases and tests and actual version numbers going forward. If we can get this SRU in we can baseline this from precise; if not, we'll just rein things back in and wait for quantal. Due to the cleanup cruft you might find it easier to review the changes via the bzr log, which can be obtained via: https://code.launchpad.net/~arsenal-devel/lpltk/1.x Revision 139 should match the 0.5 release included in precise currently. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988312 Title: launchpad-service-status can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-launchpadlib-toolkit/+bug/988312/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 946232] Re: [Meta-bug] Missing speaker and/or internal mic port
Thanks to everyone so far for submitting their IDs! As the machines keep pouring in, I'm going to wait at least day or two more before trying to push it to Ubuntu. @Patrick, were you missing an internal mic, a speaker, or something else? From your alsa-info it does not look like you would be needing this fix, but I could be wrong. @Jo-erlend, the device (HDMI as well as mic) only shows up when you actually have it connected, and for HDMI, you need to activate the screen as well. If you have done this and still not see a device, please file a separate bug (with the "ubuntu-bug audio" command). @bobhurt, I would be surprised if pushing a 4-pin headset into a mic jack (i e not a headset jack), would work in any operating system, I thought that was physically impossible. Maybe Realtek drivers do some magic we're unfamiliar with. ** Description changed: Read me first If you're suffering from one of the following problems: 1) In the sound settings dialog, when you plug your headphones into the designated 3.5 mm jack, there is a "Headphones" device correctly shown, but when you unplug it, there is no "Speaker" device shown, even though you have internal speakers on your computer. 2) In the sound settings dialog, when you plug your external microphone into the designated 3.5 mm jack, there is a "Microphone" (or similar) device correctly shown, but when you unplug it, there is no "Internal Mic" device shown, even though you have an internal mic on your computer. [Bug 914311] Re: vt.handoff 7 breaks psb_gfx driver
@Andy Whitcroft (apw) thanks for the testing package.. going to try it as soon as I go back home on my Acer751h. Yes, I believe 8108 and 8109 are enough for the poulsbo chipsets out there.. they are for the gma500, the others are for gma600 and Medfield variants (usually not netbook but embedded devices). I don't know if kernel 3.4 might solve the issue without blacklisting the pci ids, I'll try it more in depth because I've already installed it via xorg-edgers ppa (along side new xorg-mesa bits). Alan Cox, the gma500_gfx author, is aware of the vt.handoff and plymouth issue so he had probably solved in the latest kernel builds. [Bug 1003298] [NEW] Cannot load translations from a locale dir other than the default
Public bug reported: (Filed upstream, adding it here to keep track of it in the distro and record the bugs that need fixing to improve the Ubuntu app developer experience) I've got an application that needs to be installed in /opt, and I've noticed that its translations are not loaded by GtkBuilder. It turns out that even if I specify the location to load them from (with gettext's bindtextdomain() function), GtkBuilder ignores that and tries to find them in '/usr/share/locale'. I've also tried to use the gtk- builder-set-translation-domain() function to explicitly set the domain for GtkBuilder, but that did not make any difference. I'd probably rather need a gtk-builder-bind-text-domain one, which does not exist. In any case, I don't quite follow why gtk-builder-set-translation- domain() is needed at all and GtkBuilder does not just pick the translation domain and the locale dir values from gettext. In short, GtkBuilder ignores any attempt to define a locale dir and just uses the default from the system. I'm attaching a Python example for testing purposes. To run the example: * Copy the build/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES/testglade.mo file to /tmp/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES * Run the app with LANGUAGE=ca ./testglade.py Notice that the message output on the command line is translated, whereas those from the UI are not. I'm also aware of this old PyGTK bug [2], but none of the tentative workarounds there work to make GtkBuilder load translations from another location than '/usr/share/locale'. Any help or comments would be appreciated, thanks! [Bug 1003297] [NEW] Networking and ACPI conflicts
Public bug reported: The Linux kernal seems to have an issue with my on-board networking adapter and the ACPI of my computer. The boot log provides this bit of information: [ 12.236250] ACPI: resource nForce2_smbus [io 0x0700-0x073f] conflicts with ACPI region SM00 [io 0x700-0x73f] On doing some research this seems to be a very old and somewhat common bug that no one has ever done anything about. This bug results in two things: My on-board networking doesn't work, and trying to restart or shutdown the computer freezes the system. With the previous 12.04 kernel, 3.2.0-23.36, there were two workarounds. 1) Boot into rescue mode, drop to the terminal, run "rmmod forcedeth" then "modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" then resume a normal boot. This enabled both networking and regular ACPI functions. or 2) Add "forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" to /etc/modules If you booted normally without following either of the above steps and then tried to modprobe, it wouldn't work. If you tried to rmmod the module, the system would instantly freeze. With the new kernel update, 3.2.0-24.38, the above method number 1 still works, but number 2 no longer works as a workaround. It simply doesn't do anything. The replacement work around for the new kernel is you must add the line "exec rmmod forcedeth" directly underneath the beginning of the script section in the file /etc/init/module-init-tools.conf, then you must add "modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" to /etc/rc.local. This new method doesn't work with the old kernel, and the old method doesn't work with the new kernel. I fear unless this long-standing bug is fixed once and for all so such hoops don't have to be jumped through, at one point the kernel may receive some update to where no method will be able to get this to work at all. For the record, none of the various GRUB tweaks, such as acpi=off or acpi=force, did anything.
