[Bug 993162] Re: No sound from Front Panel Headphone jack (ALC892 HD Audio)

2012-05-23 Thread David Henningsson
Hello Chirag,

According to your BIOS, you don't have a headphone jack, but a front
line-out jack. You can try correcting this using the hda-jack-retask
program: see http://voices.canonical.com/david.henningsson/2011/11/29
/turn-your-mic-jack-into-a-headphone-jack/ for an introduction to this
software.

It's likely node 0x1b that's the front headphone jack, try overriding it
from "Line-Out" to "Headphone" in hda-jack-retask and let us know if
this resolved your problem. Thanks!

[Bug 937522] Re: rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore.

2012-05-23 Thread Ermak
"This is one of the most important features I need and expect from
Remmina. I'm having to using rdesktop instead of Remmina at the moment,
specifically because this issue."

I confirmed that syncronizing clipboard is very important feature. And I
can't use rdesktop because it doesn't support TLS encryption. In this
moment I haven't any posibilty to syncrhonize clipboard with RDP
session.

[Bug 988520] Re: After failed auth, subsequent auths in same context fail

2012-05-23 Thread Robie Basak
Verified fixed on Quantal. Just need the SRU for Precise now. Note that
the test script fails some other tests. This bug addresses the "module
/bad-authtok" test only.

** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  [Impact]

If an authentication fails after preauth was requested, all subsequent
preauth-required authentications in the same Kerberos context will also
fail. This breaks password change when credentials have expired, and
also breaks try_first_pass functionality in Kerberos PAM modules.

  [Development Fix]

- New upstream release. Updated in Debian. Pending sync in Ubuntu.
- Verified in Ubuntu manually.
+ New upstream release. Updated in Debian. Synced in Ubuntu. Verified
+ fixed on Quantal using test case below.

  [Stable Fix]

  Upstream patch cherry-picked. Debdiff attached.

  [Test Case]

  testcase.sh attached.

  [Regression Potential]

Low: one line patch for missing initialisation written by upstream.

  Original report by Russ Allbery:

MIT Kerberos 1.10 (including pre-releases and betas) exposed a bug in
the tracking of preauth mechanisms such that, if an authentication fails
after preauth was requested, all subsequent preauth-required
authentications in the same Kerberos context will also fail.

This breaks password change when credentials have expired, and also
breaks try_first_pass functionality in Kerberos PAM modules.

Upstream has fixed this problem in their mainline with commit 25822.

[Bug 988312] Re: launchpad-service-status can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType

2012-05-23 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The launchpad-service-status script indicates whether or not Launchpad is
available.
lpltk clients use this tool to determine whether they will fail if they
attempt to run.

One of the things the tool does to achieve this is to check the
Launchpad blog for planned outages. However, if there are no planned
outages listed in the feed, the tool fails due to undefined values.

  [Development Fix]
The 2.x development series includes a fix that checks the results of the blog
screenscraping before attempting to use it. This 2.0 branch is uploaded to
quantal.

  [Stable Fix]
The same fix applies on the 1.x stable series, which is being proposed for
precise.

Note that with this change we're bumping the number from 0.5 to 1.0, to
- indicate the package is now released and considered stable. There are
- no other changes besides this bug fix.
+ indicate the package is now released and considered stable. See package
+ changelog for other changes (mainly fixes to unreported bugs) included
+ in this release.

  [Test Case]
  1. Install package
  2. launchpad-service-status

  Broken Behavior:
  $ launchpad-service-status
  Traceback (most recent call last):
- File "/usr/local/bin/launchpad-service-status", line 50, in
- if datetime.now() > outage_start and datetime.now() < outage_end:
+   File "/usr/local/bin/launchpad-service-status", line 50, in
+ if datetime.now() > outage_start and datetime.now() < outage_end:
TypeError: can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType

  Fixed Behavior:
- $ ./scripts/launchpad-service-status
+ $ ./scripts/launchpad-service-status
  UP READWRITE

  [Regression Potential]
- None really. This just adds a check for None values before using them.
+ This particular change just adds a check for None values before using them,
it's unlikely to cause a regression.
+
+ There are some other changes included in 1.0, all of which are believed
+ safe but the quantity of code changed means regressions are always
+ possible. I feel this is a negligible risk though, because two of the
+ bug fixes included in 1.0 address API changes in Launchpad that occurred
+ a few months ago, and scripts written using the current (0.5) lpltk
+ simply won't work.
+
+ As per UDS decisions, we're trying to shift into a more normal release
+ process. However to date, most users of lpltk that I'm aware of install
+ and run from bzr due to problems such as those mentioned above. We're
+ hoping by being more aggressive at getting those kinds of fixes through
+ SRU, we can gain better maintenance updates going so people don't need
+ to run from bzr. So although this release contains some extra changes,
+ I think they're needed, and going forward we're going to be more
+ cherrypicky.

  [Original Report]
  /usr/bin/launchpad-service-status
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/launchpad-service-status", line 50, in
  if datetime.now() > outage_start and datetime.now() < outage_end:
TypeError: can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType

A quick look at the code shows that this tool is based on screen scrapping
  the launchpad notification feed

  http://blog.launchpad.net/category/notifications/feed

  and is coming up empty.

[Bug 883441] Re: Kernel 3.0 (11.10 default kernel) won't boot unless acpi=off, worked fine with the default kernels of the 3 previous releases

2012-05-23 Thread Simone Camporeale
Hi,
this is my first post in launchpad.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and I have same problem.
After upgrading from kernel 2.6.32-28 to 3.0.0-17 system was able to boot only
passing acpi=off (or maxcpus=1).
Yesterday I tried kernel 3.0.0-19 from official repository with no success.
Problem persists.

On another machine (identical) this problem does not occur.

Today i found a simple workaround to overcome this iusse.
I set [ACPI APIC SCI IRQ] on ENABLED and problem disappear.

Do you need some logs or informations ?

Thanks.

Moreover, now openafs is not accessible. When trying to run aklog (after kinit)
the following error is displayed

This has broken all my ubuntu masines. And is urgent to get the problem
resolved!

2012-05-23 Thread Robert Roth
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 852410] Re: Thunar crashed with SIGSEGV in thunarx_menu_provider_get_file_actions() thinking a directory was a file

2012-05-23 Thread HyperHacker
Just had this again in 1.2.3. Managed to prevent the crash by deleting
and recreating the directory from within Thunar. Any other method caused
it to still show up as a file. If I renamed the file on the command
line, it would appear as a directory, then creating a new directory with
the same name as before, it again appeared as a file. Looks like Thunar
has some cache of information about files it's seen, and creating the
directory from within Thunar got it to remove/update the invalid entry.

[Bug 975258] Re: Search misses matching packages

2012-05-23 Thread Robert Roth
For me NFS seems to match nfs-common (it is the fourth element in the
search results), however it's not shown by default, I had to click Show
technical items on the bottom of the pane to see it, otherwise I had
only three results, and nfs-common was not there. Did you try the show
technical items link in the bottom left corner? If you did try it and
you didn't see nfs-common, this is a strange issue (as it happens for
you, but it doesn't happen for me), but if you didn't try the link, than
you probably have the same issue as the one reported in bug #985963.

[Bug 988312] Re: launchpad-service-status can't compare datetime.datetime to NoneType

2012-05-23 Thread Bryce Harrington
Ah, didn't realize that 0.5 didn't already include all these changes.
Yes they're all quite necessary. In fact the fix_time() function is so
critical that the current 0.5 release included in precise probably
doesn't work at all. It's a fix for an unannounced Launchpad API change
that hit us a few months back. There is some cleanup included which is
unnecessary of course but corrects some rather stupidly lazy packaging
work on my part.

I've updated the changelog to itemize all the changes. Mostly
everything is to fix problems people have run into, although there's
also a new script and a couple new routines added; all quite safe but if
they bug you I can revert them, they're not critical. To date most
people have been running lpltk from bzr, so we don't have bug reports on
the problems - we would just fix bzr and users would re-pull. We're
planning to change to a more formal model with releases and tests and
actual version numbers going forward. If we can get this SRU in we can
baseline this from precise; if not, we'll just rein things back in and
wait for quantal.

Due to the cleanup cruft you might find it easier to review the changes via the
bzr log, which can be obtained via:
  https://code.launchpad.net/~arsenal-devel/lpltk/1.x
Revision 139 should match the 0.5 release included in precise currently.

[Bug 946232] Re: [Meta-bug] Missing speaker and/or internal mic port

2012-05-23 Thread David Henningsson
Thanks to everyone so far for submitting their IDs! As the machines keep
pouring in, I'm going to wait at least day or two more before trying to
push it to Ubuntu.

@Patrick, were you missing an internal mic, a speaker, or something
else? From your alsa-info it does not look like you would be needing
this fix, but I could be wrong.

@Jo-erlend, the device (HDMI as well as mic) only shows up when you
actually have it connected, and for HDMI, you need to activate the
screen as well. If you have done this and still not see a device, please
file a separate bug (with the "ubuntu-bug audio" command).

@bobhurt, I would be surprised if pushing a 4-pin headset into a mic
jack (i e not a headset jack), would work in any operating system, I
thought that was physically impossible. Maybe Realtek drivers do some
magic we're unfamiliar with.

** Description changed:

   Read me first

If you're suffering from one of the following problems:

   1) In the sound settings dialog, when you plug your headphones into the
designated 3.5 mm jack, there is a "Headphones" device correctly shown,
but when you unplug it, there is no "Speaker" device shown, even though
you have internal speakers on your computer.

   2) In the sound settings dialog, when you plug your external microphone
into the designated 3.5 mm jack, there is a "Microphone" (or similar)
device correctly shown, but when you unplug it, there is no "Internal
Mic" device shown, even though you have an internal mic on your
  computer.

If so, please try the workaround in comment #32. IF AND ONLY IF that is
working for you, please attach alsa info (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo ) to this bug, together with the
name of your machine (e g "Dell Latitude D620"). I'll try to include it
in a list of devices that we have to manually enable and release it as
  an update to 12.04.

Thanks! - and sorry for causing the bug in the first place :-/

  // David Henningsson

The following machines are known to be affected (no more alsa-info
  needed) :

I have an DELL Inspiron 6400. As it seems ubuntu precise beta1 thinks it
has a digital ouput. In the audio settings it says Play sound through:
  »Digital Output (S/PDIF)«

As you can see there →
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6400/en/om/specs.htm#wp1054816
  it has no S/PDIF output.

The audio Settings doesn't let me change the mode.
Sometime the system sets the mode to »Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output« but
the drop-down list menu is grayed out so I can't change it.

If I plug in and out my headphones the system changes the mode to »Analog
Stereo Output«
and I can hear Sound again.

[Bug 935862] Re: Frozen of the PC when using bluetooth device

2012-05-23 Thread Wojciech Chojnacki
I tested this bluetooth device on my school's computer and result was
identical – when I tried to sent something it causes computer frozen.
However on this same machine, but under Windows 7 everything was fine. I
will upload logs here.

[Bug 1002952] Re: [meta-bug] Invalid extra "Digital output S/PDIF" device for USB cards

2012-05-23 Thread David Henningsson
"USB Audio CODEC" sounded a little too generic to add to that list (maybe the
same name is used in other contexts where digital in/out exists), but I've
picked up the other three and sent to upstream. I'll wait some more (for more
devices to show up in this bug) before trying to push it into Ubuntu through an
SRU.
Thanks!

[Bug 996654] Re: Unity 5.12 not loading after upgrade (compiz/libunityshell.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK5unity4dash10Controller6windowEv)

2012-05-23 Thread Ju Ping
Thank you. That did the trick.

I have re-enabled all non-Canonical repositories and performed another
update, and no Unity upgrades were available.

I believe this problem arose due to a restoration of PPAs from Oneiric
to Precise and although I have removed the relevant PPA, it had by then
installed the bzr build of Unity.

[Bug 1003291] [NEW] check_snmp_win.pl doesn't honor timeout parameter

2012-05-23 Thread Jochen Bartl
Public bug reported:

The plugin check_snmp_win.pl doesn't honor the timeout (-t) parameter.
If you enter a number right after -t it is saved in $o_timeout, however
this variable is not used later on in the script.

Here is an example:

root@icinga:/usr/lib/nagios/plugins# ./check_snmp_win.pl -v -H 10.99.99.6 -C
public -n "foobar" -t 5
Alarm at 15
5000
^C
root@icinga:/usr/lib/nagios/plugins# ./check_snmp_win.pl -v -H 10.99.99.6 -C
public -n "foobar" -t 20
Alarm at 15
5000
^C

A patch to fix the issue is attached to this bug report.

The solution to this problem was found here: http://www.nagios-
portal.org/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&postID=162987#post162987 (Text is
in German)

Just let me know if you want me to do more tests or if you need more
infos.

[Bug 1003296] [NEW] lightdm crashed with SIGSEGV when password is expiring

2012-05-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

My precise client is member of a Windows Domain. A domain user can login
using samba/winbind without problem in tty and via lightdm if the user
password is ok.

If the password is expiring a domain user logs in correctly via TTY,
with a message "Your password is expiring in 10 days". if tries with
lightdm the user gets the message "Your password is expiring in 10
days", but then returns to the username request.

On /var/log/syslog i get:

May 23 08:50:52 tv52605 kernel: [ 1046.645230] lightdm[2415]: segfault
at 0 ip b73d976a sp bfd66fa8 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b729c000+19f000]

for each time the user tries to login with the domain user credentials.

Expected behaviour:

the user sees the message "Your password is expiring in 10 days", then
logs in (like gdm in ubuntu 10.04 does).

I attach the crash file i found in /var/crash/ (that i'm unable to send
via apport-bug tue to same strange bug)

[Bug 914311] Re: vt.handoff 7 breaks psb_gfx driver

2012-05-23 Thread Lucazade
@Andy Whitcroft (apw)
thanks for the testing package.. going to try it as soon as I go back home on
my Acer751h.

Yes, I believe 8108 and 8109 are enough for the poulsbo chipsets out
there.. they are for the gma500, the others are for gma600 and Medfield
variants (usually not netbook but embedded devices).

I don't know if kernel 3.4 might solve the issue without blacklisting
the pci ids, I'll try it more in depth because I've already installed it
via xorg-edgers ppa (along side new xorg-mesa bits). Alan Cox, the
gma500_gfx author, is aware of the vt.handoff and plymouth issue so he
had probably solved in the latest kernel builds.

I'll let you know soon :)

[Bug 1003298] [NEW] Cannot load translations from a locale dir other than the default

2012-05-23 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

(Filed upstream, adding it here to keep track of it in the distro and
record the bugs that need fixing to improve the Ubuntu app developer
experience)

I've got an application that needs to be installed in /opt, and I've
noticed that its translations are not loaded by GtkBuilder.

It turns out that even if I specify the location to load them from (with
gettext's bindtextdomain() function), GtkBuilder ignores that and tries
to find them in '/usr/share/locale'. I've also tried to use the gtk-
builder-set-translation-domain() function to explicitly set the domain
for GtkBuilder, but that did not make any difference. I'd probably
rather need a gtk-builder-bind-text-domain one, which does not exist.

In any case, I don't quite follow why gtk-builder-set-translation-
domain() is needed at all and GtkBuilder does not just pick the
translation domain and the locale dir values from gettext.

In short, GtkBuilder ignores any attempt to define a locale dir and just
uses the default from the system.

I'm attaching a Python example for testing purposes.

To run the example:

* Copy the build/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES/testglade.mo file to
/tmp/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES
* Run the app with LANGUAGE=ca ./testglade.py

Notice that the message output on the command line is translated,
whereas those from the UI are not.

I'm also aware of this old PyGTK bug [2], but none of the tentative
workarounds there work to make GtkBuilder load translations from another
location than '/usr/share/locale'.

Any help or comments would be appreciated, thanks!

[Bug 1003297] [NEW] Networking and ACPI conflicts

2012-05-23 Thread Gannin
Public bug reported:

The Linux kernal seems to have an issue with my on-board networking
adapter and the ACPI of my computer. The boot log provides this bit of
information:

[ 12.236250] ACPI: resource nForce2_smbus [io 0x0700-0x073f]
conflicts with ACPI region SM00 [io 0x700-0x73f]

On doing some research this seems to be a very old and somewhat common
bug that no one has ever done anything about.

This bug results in two things:

My on-board networking doesn't work, and trying to restart or shutdown
the computer freezes the system.

With the previous 12.04 kernel, 3.2.0-23.36, there were two workarounds.

1) Boot into rescue mode, drop to the terminal, run "rmmod forcedeth"
then "modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" then resume a normal boot. This
enabled both networking and regular ACPI functions.

or

2) Add "forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" to /etc/modules

If you booted normally without following either of the above steps and
then tried to modprobe, it wouldn't work. If you tried to rmmod the
module, the system would instantly freeze.

With the new kernel update, 3.2.0-24.38, the above method number 1 still
works, but number 2 no longer works as a workaround. It simply doesn't
do anything.

The replacement work around for the new kernel is you must add the line
"exec rmmod forcedeth" directly underneath the beginning of the script
section in the file /etc/init/module-init-tools.conf, then you must add
"modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" to /etc/rc.local. This new method
doesn't work with the old kernel, and the old method doesn't work with
the new kernel.

I fear unless this long-standing bug is fixed once and for all so such
hoops don't have to be jumped through, at one point the kernel may
receive some update to where no method will be able to get this to work
at all.

For the record, none of the various GRUB tweaks, such as acpi=off or
acpi=force, did anything.
