[Bug 892958] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 Unity 2D glitches and sometimes freezes when using work space switcher

2011-11-21 Thread Phil. V
Thanks for your bug report. I'll package this against metacity so we can get an
apport hook, but I'm not exactly sure what handles work space switching in a 2d
session. So we can get some detailed system information attached to this
report, though, could you please run the following command in a terminal from
your unity-2d session:
apport-collect 892958

Also, could you describe the freeze that you sometimes experience? Is it
a hard freeze? Will the system respond to keyboard input
(ctrl+alt+delete, etc)?

   Status: New => Incomplete

** Tags added: oneiric

[Bug 892988] [NEW] Translations do not match the released tarball translations

2011-11-21 Thread Albert Astals Cid
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu claims to be shipping rekonq 0.8.0:
  $ dpkg -l | grep rekonq
  ii rekonq0.8.0-0ubuntu0.1
KDE web browser based on Webkit

But the translations shipped do not match the real stuff inside the rekonq
0.8.0 tarball.
Example:
  $ wget
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rekonq/files/0.8.0/0.8.0/rekonq-0.8.0.tar.bz2/download
 -O rekonq-0.8.0.tar.bz2
  $ tar xfh rekonq-0.8.0.tar.bz2
  $ grep "Custom" -B 1 -A 1 rekonq-0.8.0/i18n/rekonq_ca.po
  #: rc.cpp:195
  msgid "Custom Style Sheet"
  msgstr "Full d'estil personalitzat"
You can see the catalan translation has correctly translated "Custom Style
Sheet"
But then if you do
  $ msgunfmt /usr/share/locale-langpack/ca/LC_MESSAGES/rekonq.mo | grep "Custom"
There is no output, meaning that somehow the translation for that text did not
end up in the rekonq.mo that Ubuntu ships.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 892989] [NEW] org.gnome.desktop.media-handling.automount-open should be set to false by default in gnome-shell

2011-11-21 Thread Julien Olivier
Public bug reported:

In Oneiric, org.gnome.desktop.media-handling.automount-open is set to
"true" by default, which causes removable medias to open a new nautilus
window when inserted. This might be the desired behaviour in Unity, but
it's wrong in gnome-shell because gnome-shell already displays a
notification asking whether the user wants to open a nautilus window.
This is redondant with the automatic opening of the window.

I already sumbitted it upstream but it was rightfully closed NOTGNOME:

[Bug 879239] Re: Received unknown WMI event 0x11 during S3 testing

2011-11-21 Thread Alex Hung
Information from OEM engineers

Although we may be seeing this during S3 testing, it may be coincidental
that this message is showing up during S3 testing. WMI event 0x11 is the
status change event notification. So, anytime the battery charge method,
charge status ( enable/disable), ALS level etc. changes, you will get
these events.

Therefore it is safe to ignore the WMI 0x11 event silently.

[Bug 892997] [NEW] Shell search shows deleted files, duplicates for moved documents

2011-11-21 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10, gnome-shell 3.2.1-0ubuntu1.

Gnome Shell's search, unlike other desktop searches, retains moved and
deleted items, leading to confusion. Steps to replicate:

Create a text file with a unique name from gedit.

Search for it from the Dash, and it appears as expected.

Delete the file, and restart the Shell, then search again. The file
still appears, but of course can't be loaded. Moving a file, likewise,
creates two separate entries, only one of which uses the correct,
current path to the file.

I understand that the list of items itself comes from ~/.local/share
/recently-used.xbel. Deleting this file and restarting the Shell will,
of course, clear the search index (but this is obviously not a useful
workaround.)

It may be useful on occasion to retain paths to deleted files, but the
Shell doesn't provide any information about the path, so there's no
clear benefit to this behavior; more importantly, deleted items are not
distinguished from existing ones (such as by a badge of some sort.)
These superfluous, non-functional entries cluttering the search can
easily lead to confusion. Other, Zeitgeist-based searches (like Unity's,
Synapse, etc.) don't seem to create this problem.

Cacti should not depend on Apache at all. There are a multitude of web
servers available, and used by people. I am currently running nginx, and
don't need Apache installed to run Cacti. All this is doing is
cluttering the system with things that might not be needed.

[Bug 857297] Re: Wireless not working on Lenovo3000-N200 with Ubuntu 11.04 upgrade

2011-11-21 Thread Graham Parker
Hi Herton

I Installed linux-image-2.6.38-13-generic_2.6.38-13.52_i386.deb with
following results:

First boot:
root@LENOVO:~# rfkill list
0: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Turn off soft key switch:
root@LENOVO:~# rfkill list

1: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes

Turn on soft key:

Turn off hard switch:

Hard blocked: yes

Turn on hard switch:
root@LENOVO:~# rfkill list
0: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Wireless is working as expected and the output from 'rfkill list' shows
that the fix is doing what it's supposed to. However, there is still a
problem with the interaction between the kernel and network manager.

1.) When turning off soft key and then turning soft key back on again,
the wireless doesn't enable automatically and the wireless connections
in network manager disappear so I cannot click on a wireless connection
to establish the network. Turning off soft key and turning on soft key 2
or 3 times in a row enables the wireless connections in network manager
and network is again established.

2.) When turning off hard switch and then turning hard switch back on
again, wireless doesn't enable automatically. However the wireless
connections remain in the network manager and I am able to click on the
wireless connection to establish network again.

As above, wireless is working as expected with linux-
image-2.6.38-13-generic_2.6.38-13.52_i386.deb installed as shown by
"rfkill".

Is there any indication when we might see a fix for network manager?

Thank you for your patience in my testing Natty update -proposed
(2.6.38-13.5), much appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Graham.

[Bug 759576] Re: two desktops/menus in unity

2011-11-21 Thread vojtec
I used monitor applet. At this moment, problem is solved by setting off
other display (which was automatically set on although I never used it).

The problem remains only in the login screen - there is only was smaller
login windows - see the attachment... Now I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 ...

[Bug 893007] [NEW] geogebra depends on icedtea-plugin in Oneiric

2011-11-21 Thread Robert Chalmas
Public bug reported:

In the geogebra packages included in Natty and older versions of Ubuntu,
icedtea-plugin is listed as a recommended package (see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/geogebra ). In Oneiric, it is now a dependency
(see http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/geogebra ).
This is a problem as the icedtea-plugin is known to be unable to run many
applets created with GeoGebra, for example all those on this page:
http://dmentrard.free.fr/GEOGEBRA/Sciences/accueilscie.htm (click for example
on the first one called "Ondes sismiques"). For this reason, it was a common
practice to replace the icedtea-plugin by Sun Java.
Now this is no more possible, as uninstalling icedtea-plugin also uninstalls
geogebra itself!
I would expect the geogebra package in Oneiric not to include icedtea-plugin as
a dependency.

[Bug 877986] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 fails to install on a nvidia onboard RAID0

2011-11-21 Thread Frederic William Beck
I reported the same problem with the Ubiquity installer of Ubuntu 11.04
(64 bit) in hopes that it would have been sorted out by 11.10, but it
isn't.

Last version of Ubiquity that seems to install fine on NVIDIA SATA
stripe to my knowledge was with Ubuntu 10.10. My workaround on computers
with NVIDIA SATA stripe set is to install Maverick and then let Update
Manager upgrade to Oneiric.

Is this bug still unassigned?? It is not just the flickering that drives

[Bug 893007] Re: geogebra depends on icedtea-plugin in Oneiric

2011-11-21 Thread Robert Chalmas
I forgot to mention that the icedtea-plugin was renamed in Oneiric, which may
be the reason for the problem:
- in Maverick and Natty, it was called icedtea6-plugin
- in Oneiric, it is now called icedtea-plugin (without the "6")
But it is indeed the same software, still having the same problem to run applets
created with GeoGebra.

[Bug 851384] Re: panel still have the blur even if its disabled

2011-11-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't reproduce any such bug in oneiric now that it's released...

Also, the bug description is wrong:
"i disabled blur in ccsm but unity panel is still transparent and blurred it
should be the same as rest of the dash see the weirdness in the attached
screenshot."

It should be:
"i disabled blur in ccsm but the dash is opaque when it should be transparent".

No such bug in ubuntu 11.10 final though (?)

[Bug 887440] Re: Firefox hangs in Oneric

2011-11-21 Thread Nils Jungclaus
I got the same problem here, so by now, I am using the firefox nightly
build which behaves much better, but isn't as responsive as firefox 7 on
natty in comparison.

Chrome woks fine with oneiric, seamonkey does as well, only ff7 does
not.

One thing that might influence this is a client x509 certificate. We use
this to authenticate against an internal Apache. Since I need this for
my daily work, I have not compared with a situation without client
certificate.

[Bug 893007] Re: geogebra depends on icedtea-plugin in Oneiric

2011-11-21 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Hi Robert.

Actually my IcedTea plugin is able to show the applet listed of the
website you're linking. Anyway, you're right: the icedtea-plugin
dependency isn't needed anymore, at least in precise (it was, becase it
contained some JAR files GeoGebra depends on). The relevant JARs were
moved in icedtea-netx-common. I have to check things for oneiric.

Giovanni.

The resource agent /usr/lib/ocf/resource.d/heartbeat/apache does not
create the directory /var/run/apache2 at startup and so apache refuses

I inserted the line:

[Bug 834592] Re: System hangs during boot with "Checking battery state" on screen

2011-11-21 Thread Alwin Roosen
Same issue for me after fresh install of 11.10 64bit.

I only have this issue on an Asrock H61M/U3S3 Motherboard with onboard
Intel graphics (if this matters), other desktops/laptops with nvidia or
ati seem to work fine.

The strange thing is that it sometimes does work correctly, I'd say 3/4
times it fails to show the login screen.

It stops at "Checking battery state"

CTRL-ALT-F1, logging in and running "sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart"
works every time, but is very annoying to say the least.

What I have tried so far:

- install lightdm-gtk-greeter (was not installed)
- install unity-greeter (was already installed)
- sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm (same errors as in comment 6)
- sudo rm -r /var/run/dbus; dbus-daemon --system
- removing the ~/.Xauthority file
- reinstalling/replacing nvidia drivers is no option since this is intel, but
it is suggested many times

I did check some logs, but am not sure where to look and if this is
related:

- /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log - Stopping X local seat, failed to start a
display
- /var/log/lightdm/x-0-greeter.log - WARNING: unity-greeter: Fatal IO error 11
on X server :0.
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log - No screens found

Looked up the intel graphics specs:

lspci | grep VGA

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core
Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

I would like to see this solved, so if anyone needs more information,
just let me know and I will do my best to gather it for you.

[Bug 893024] [NEW] NetworkManager asks for 802.1x user name and password when there is no 802.1x support on switch port

2011-11-21 Thread Hannu Teulahti
Public bug reported:

NetworkManager asks for 802.1x user name and password when there is no
802.1x support on switch port.

We use 802.1x wired authentication on our campus network. Network-
manager does not fall-back nicely when connecting to a non-authenticated
switch.

What happens:

Network manager asks for user name and password when 802.1x settings are
present on network settings and computer is connected to an
unauthenticated port.

What should happen:

Network manager should notice that the port is not access-controlled and
do one of the following: ask for connecting unauthenticated or connect
unauthenticated without asking.

there should be a setting for controlling the behavior when connecting
to an unauthenticated port.

Now the user is asked about information which has no effect on
completing the connection.

Ubuntu 10.04 forgets the saved password, but at least 11.10 remembers
the old one when presenting the password dialog.

[Bug 548631] Re: xubuntu keyboard layout switch shortcuts are not remembered

2011-11-21 Thread Michal Palička
Hello,

I am using Xubuntu Oneiric (amd64) = xfce4-xkb-plugin version 0.5.4.1-1.
The keyboard change layout option gets forgotten after reboot (at random).

I usually use the "Both Shift keys together" key combination.

The status of this bug "Fix Released" is inappropriate, since nothing has been
fixed so far.
Please, reopen this bug. I would also vote for upgrading its priority.
It is a simple thing, but VERY annoying.

As "aka" mentioned, such bugs heavily discourage people from switching
to Linux...

[Bug 812940] Re: dbus behaviour change from natty to oneiric: now enables X11 autolaunch

2011-11-21 Thread Danjel McGougan
The uptrack cron job on my headless server started to produce this
output every 30 minutes since the upgrade to oneiric:

(process:7032): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11

I suppose this is related to this bug? How do I work around it?
