[Bug 891947] Re: Desktop not completely displayed after install
** Description changed: After installing my desktop is shifted to the left and up (can't see that part of the screen). That seems to indicate the wrong resolution or frequency to me. I'm using DVI output and a DVI to HDMI cable (monitor was sold as a monitor, not TV). 1920x1200 is default resolution and it looks like that is what is being displayed, but I think it is using 50.0 Hz (* marks it in xrandr -q output, and is only option for that resolution) instead of something closer to 60 or 59. - I've tried reinstalling, with no change. My screen works fine while - inside the installer environment or the "try out Ubuntu" option (whole - desktop displayed). I originally had my system working with an old - video card, but it broke after switching to a newer card (from Nvidia - 8800 GTX to Nvidia 260 216). More recently I replaced the 260 with an - Nvidia GTX 480. All of these have worked fine inside Windows 7. This - originally showed up in Ubuntu 10.10 with the latest Nvidia drivers (I - manually installed newer versions to match what CUDA 4.0 SDK wanted). - The fresh install was Ubuntu 11.10 and whatever default driver it - offers. + I've tried reinstalling, with no change. [Bug 890569] Re: Kernel NULL pointer deference in __d_move from vfs_stat ioctl
It was one time crash only for me. But upstream doesn't have much changes in that area. Only patches that I quickly could name even potentially related are in sysfs side: f6d90b4f9ce018bff429d6e01ee672de712b8641 sysfs: Make sysfs_rename safe with sysfs_dirents in rbtrees Mikulas Patocka 's rb_tree changes. in dcache side there is more interesting commits but only one of them talk about d_parent not being NULL. But looking (upstream) code d_parent shouldn't ever be NULL. [Bug 891947] [NEW] Desktop not completely displayed after install
Public bug reported: After installing my desktop is shifted to the left and up (can't see that part of the screen). [Bug 872219] Re: Applications lens "disappears"
I'm giving up unity. It is not ready as a stable release yet and i feel that canonical should recognize this and stop force feeding unity to all ubuntu users, all newbies may run screaming back to windows after a bad experience with unity and never come back. There are too many issues that have cost too much of my time. I've switched to gnome3 and it works like charm. As a bonus, the system seems to be more responsive as well (under unity i sometimes got short freezes for no apparent reason) Good luck! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872219 Title: Applications lens "disappears" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/872219/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 891961] [NEW] After scanning a few pages , simplescan gets the colours wrong
Public bug reported: Simplescan is pretty cool. However, with my scanner, after scanning a few pages, it starts adding a large grey block from the center of the page to the right hand margin in additional scans. This is in text mode, in photo-scanning mode, it does the same, but with a magenta like colour. [Bug 885592] Re: No "parent folder" button
It's been reported already; so, the best to do is give it attention at the reported location: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=662243 I agree that this is a real hindrance. I've switched my file manager to Thunar at the moment to get back the functionality. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #662243 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=662243 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885592 Title: No "parent folder" button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/885592/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 871809] Re: MacBook: Backlight doesn't turn on at (or after) unlock screen
** Description changed: MacBook early 2008 model, Intel® 965GM x86/MMX/SSE2 + MacBook Pro 2011 model - Problem occurs with: Ubuntu 11.10 beta + Problem occurs with: Ubuntu 11.10 Does not occur with: Ubuntu 11.04, Ubuntu 10.10, Ubuntu 10.04, etc 1. Choose “Lock Screen”. 2. Wait for the backlight to turn off. 3. Press a key or touch a pointing device. 4. Press one of the brightness keys on the keyboard. 5. Enter your password at the unlock screen. 6. Press one of the brightness keys on the keyboard. What happens: 3. The unlock screen appears, but it is almost invisible, because the backlight has not turned back on. 4. The backlight still does not turn on. 5. The backlight still does not turn on. 6. When you choose to increase/decrease the brightness, the backlight finally turns on. What should happen: 3. The backlight turns on immediately. This looks similar to bug 580225, except that that bug was occurring with Ubuntu 10.04, whereas this bug was not. [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs
Switching to "Unity 2D" (*) seems to solve the problem for me. Can anyone else comment on their experiences? (*) - To switch to Unity 2D, click the "gear" icon by your name on the lightdm display manager and select "Unity 2D". If there is no entry for "Unity 2D": 1) Login 2) Open a terminal 3) Type, "sudo apt-get install unity-2d" 4) Logout -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861268 Title: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/861268/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
