[Bug 882941] [NEW] Debmirror ignores '--method' option (always uses rsync)
Public bug reported: 1) Ubuntu 11.10 2) Debmirror 1:2.9ubuntu1 3-4) I use debmirror in my update script, but after dist upgrade (11.04 -> 11.10) debmirror ignores method option and always trying to use rsync. Thats how i launch debmirror: debmirror --verbose --host=archive.ubuntu.com --root=ubuntu --method=ftp --dist=oneiric --section=main --arch=i386 $repository_working_dir I tried http method and other reps mirror, debmirror forced rsync method too. My server has acces only to http and ftp, so debmirror just stops, thats what i see after launching: Mirroring to /home/repositories/Ubuntu.11.10.repository from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ Arches: i386 Dists: oneiric Sections: main Including source. Pdiff mode: use Will clean up after mirroring. Attempting to get lock ... Updating remote trace files (using rsync) ... If i put debmirror binary file from Ubuntu 11.04 in /usr/bin it works well. So, looks like a bug in new Ubuntu 11.10 package. ** Affects: debmirror (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882941 Title: Debmirror ignores '--method' option (always uses rsync) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debmirror/+bug/882941/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 870662] Re: Compile error if linking against gtkmm-3.0 and poppler-glib
This is just because the current libpoppler-glib-dev depends on libgtk2.0-dev instead of libgtk3.0-dev. It uses GDK in its API, for instance. This would happen to people using GTK+ 3, not just gtkmm 3. However, GDK is only used by include files when POPPLER_WITH_GDK is defined. POPPLER_WITH_GDK is apparently defined during the poppler build, and I don't think Ubuntu's libpoppler-glib was really built with that defined. So maybe the dependency is unnecessary. Reassigning to libpoppler-glib-dev for investigation there. If GTK+ (or GDK) really is needed, it would be great if libpoppler was ported to GTK+ 3, but that doesn't seem to have even happened upstream yet. ** Package changed: gtkmm3.0 (Ubuntu) => poppler (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - Compile error if linking against gtkmm-3.0 and poppler-glib + Compile error if linking against GTK+ 3 and poppler-glib via pkg-config -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/870662 Title: Compile error if linking against GTK+ 3 and poppler-glib via pkg- config To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/870662/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 882948] [NEW] Window not resizing to the picture correctly
Public bug reported: No matter what when opening an image, there are always the ugly black bars on both sides of any image. Disabling both the status bar and toolbar helps a little, and using a "global menu" makes it ALOT better. But alot of times there still a clear black line on one side or the other, even though "Best fit" is selected. I can manually resize the window and I am able to get the window to just the perfect size so there are no black bars any where. I am a BIG stickler for this cause I love having a borderless window theme. and when opening a picture and seeing black on one side or another, it just looks plain ugly :/ I Love Eye of Gnome cause it does the best at auto resizing. and being able to totally take away everything in the window but the title bar, (any good ways of making that dissapper too? :-P ) makes an average pic look really great, and a High Res pic look Jaw Dropping!! [Bug 882954] [NEW] gcc fails to compile legal code
Public bug reported: I am working on a program (ftp://ftp.cs.sjtu.edu.cn:990/sandy/maxwell/). Compiling on a different Ubuntu system (11.04) works fine. cpp timermod.c | grep clock_gettime seems to show it is being defined. I am baffled. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. [Bug 855449] Re: Unable to boot normally, have to use acpi=off
To update this bug, I have now wiped my SSD and installed 11.10 via a USB iso. In order to even boot the iso, I had to edit the grub menu so that I could set acpi=off. Having installed 11.10 successfully, instead of seeing a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand side, I am now only seeing a purple screen with no cursor. I am unable to force a reboot via the keyboard or access any of the terminal screens from this point. [Bug 782171] Re: Keyboard input processed twice, both on vt1 and vt7
This is getting really problematic: I also observed the issue on the base machine, not only within virtualbox guest. The effect there is in most cases that an open login session remains on tty1, that contains the passwords in plaintext in some .vim file. Cause: During double command execution, quite some commands work even when executed twice, e.g. "ls". Since graphical desktop contains multiple xterms, but all commands on tty1 are executed in one shell, thus some combinations do not make sense any more (e.g. the GUI combination xterm1: "cd tmp"; xterm2: "su -s /bin/bash \n dhclient eth0\n cd \"; xterm1: "rm -rf -- *" might be the most lethal leading to complete data loss). On my machine, quite some events ended with vim open on tty1 in some exotic mode. When I lock the graphical desktop and leave the machine, tty1 will be still open to anyone who knows about the problem and vim might contain username/password or sudo/ssh-keypassphrases in plaintext in vim edit mode. Workaround (has worked so far): Press [Ctrl]-C on xdm login screen, this restarts xdm. Afterwards tty1/tty7 are uncoupled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782171 Title: Keyboard input processed twice, both on vt1 and vt7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+bug/782171/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 882960] [NEW] Copy, paste, delete and other are disabled after a while
Public bug reported: About once or twice a day I run into the following bug: All of the "Edit" options are greyed out. That includes almost everything in the "Edit"-menu, except the entries "Send to, Compress, Background, Preferences". The right-click-menu on a file behaves the same. Almost everythign is greyed out, except "Open with, Send to, compress, Properties". Keyboard shortcuts won't work anymore either. The only solution is to quit nautilus and open it again. [Bug 828623] Re: [Regression] gnome control centre does not allow you to disable the laptop screen while leaving an external DisplayPort connected screen working
Yes, you may be right. I just think that it's remarkable that it's the exact same display configuration that fails in (almost) the same way as the bug description. All other display configurations I've tried works fine, including mirror, dual and only internal. What doesn't fit into the bug description is that I don't get the timeout where the display is reverted to the previous configuration. [Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql
in answer to Dan Moore https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cyrus-sasl2/+bug/875440/comments/12 you can put single package in hold for update by synaptic o at command line by using echo package_name hold | dpkg --set-selections to activate the upgrade again echo package_name install | dpkg --set-selections Maybe is easyer with aptitude so in our case is (ofcourse execute as root or add sudo at begin): aptitude hold libsasl2-dev aptitude hold libsasl2-modules-sql aptitude hold libsasl2-2 aptitude hold libsasl2-modules aptitude hold sasl2-bin Later, when the bug will be fixed (it seem it will take a lot of time since is still unassigned), to put the package again in the upgrade cycle just execute: aptitude unhold libsasl2-dev aptitude unhold libsasl2-modules-sql aptitude unhold libsasl2-2 aptitude unhold libsasl2-modules aptitude unhold sasl2-bin if later on you don't remember what did you put on hold, just type dpkg --get-selections to see only package on old dpkg --get-selections | grep hold -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875440 Title: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cyrus-sasl2/+bug/875440/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 882274] Re: Community engagement is broken
@Tal Liron I am sorry, if I was misunderstood by you. To say they are "hiding" behind their design decision was my way to describe that they do not deal with complaints uttered by the community and that they do not see any need to explain their decisions. With "reasonable" I meant that most of the complaints, arguments, ideas and propositions given by the users in bug 668415 were very reasonable but any answer by those who make the (design) decisions was only that "it is a design decision" without any further (real) explanation. I never said that the community is not composed of reasonable people. Exactly that is my point: the community IS composed of reasonable people but I sometimes get the bad feeling that the dev teams do not take the community (us) for reasonable people. They do not take us for serious. Concerning the aspect of us being biased fans I am afraid you are utterly right. I defended many of the ideas and concepts on which unity is based and always told people that it will certainly get better. Because Ubuntu has a good philosophy behind its concept and because all the years they released very good software composed of very good ideas. But due to the lack of transparency and dues to the lack of attention paid to the normal (community) users I became more and more angry and started to question whether there is any sense in defending design decisions which are never really explained to the community. The funny thing is what happened, when I started to simply explain to users, who asked for certain aspects of the system and wanted to know if it is still "in development" and if it will be changed, that those things won't be changed due to design decisions. Those people looked at me and asked "why?" They did not think that any of the design decisions was reasonable and took it nearly for granted that this was work which was "still in development". But every time I brought that experience forward as an argument just to "rethink" the design I was rebuffed. Despite the fact that I elaborated on this user testings, on which the design decisions were based, several times, when I said that I have (had) a bigger user base to refer to, when it comes to describe experiences with users. I do not understand why the ubuntu devs do not at least take the experiences I made into account. This does only mean that I want somebody of the devs to listen. A reaction would suffice. A mature reasonable reaction. And if they do not want to change a feature, I only want a thorough explanation "why". Just to shortly refer back to my beloved bug 668415 ;) The biggest problem I now have with this bug is that we were recently told that suddenly the dev team is rethinking the positioning of the launcher. As there were problems with multi monitor support etc... Well, my problem: these issues were all discussed by the (community) users who told about those problems in the bug month before the Oneiric release. This is one of the situations when I feel treated like a small child and I suppose many other felt that way, too. We warned about those issues month before and the only answer to these reasonable concerns was: it is a design decision". Without any further explanation. And suddenly they can rethink their design decision. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882274 Title: Community engagement is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/882274/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 563895] Re: grub2 fails to boot or install when an LVM snapshot exists
I am also wondering why a bug fix is not being pushed to lucid. I know that with LTS versions you do the whole feature freeze thing and only release security updates and I think bug fixes. This is not a feature addition, it is a bug that needs to be fixed.
