Hi dentaku65, did you get rid of this nightmare? My 11.10 Oneiric keeps the same issue since my firsrt ubuntuse in Maverick Meerkat. I will try your tip to remove gnome-power-manager, but I'm afraid it breaks my pc as I use dependant gnome-panel... lets see, it can't be worse.
