[Bug 877051] Re: dual monitors not recognized

2011-10-19 Thread krackersk
They worked from the live CD because you were using the open source
Nouveau driver. I couldn't set up the nvidia driver either for dual
monitors but when I did a fresh install without the internet (and hence
no binary drivers), dual monitors worked fine.

Quite a few people are having a problem with nvidia drivers and dual
monitors, check out this thread.

[Bug 873058] Re: Jockey fail to install binary ati driver (post release) version

2011-10-19 Thread Martin Pitt
The installation of fglrx-updates went alright according to the log:

Setting up fglrx-updates (2:8.881-0ubuntu6) ...
[...]
Building only for 3.0.0-12-generic
Building for architecture x86_64
Building initial module for 3.0.0-12-generic
Done.
[...]
DKMS: install Completed.

However, it seems it didn't install the alternatives correctly, or
nvidia-common detects them wrongly:

2011-10-12 21:03:14,639 ERROR: xorg:fglrx_updates:
get_alternative_by_name(fglrx-updates) returned nothing
2011-10-12 21:03:14,936 DEBUG: fglrx.enabled(fglrx_updates): target_alt None

/usr/lib/fglrx/alt_ld.so.conf
2011-10-12 21:03:14,937 DEBUG: fglrx_updates is not the alternative in use

Both reporters seem to confirm that the non-updates version (fglrx)
worked fine, right?

[Bug 849595] Re: zeitgeist-daemon crashed with DatabaseError in execute(): database disk image is malformed

2011-10-19 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
Thanks Nuno. That log is consistent with the trace attached, so that's
nice to know. I did hope that there would have been some interesting
warnings or other in there, but that was not the case :-/

Can people try to briefly describe their setups? What I want to know is
if we are talking completely standard single user machines with no
special logins or anything, or we are talking remote logins over ssh or
vnc or some other non-trivial setup, like running in a VM or having
encrypted partitions, etc.

[Bug 798086] Re: Occasional "The disk drive for /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 is not ready yet or not present" on system startup

2011-10-19 Thread harrykar
A "Occasional"(in natty) in my case becomes a Permanet block after the
upgrade to oneiric and yes i had ticked for home encryption in natty.
All workarounds(except maybe for a clean Ubuntu reinstall) i found(like
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1365261) matters a medium
experience user certainly not a first time ubuntu user. So IMHO maybe is
better hide the (install step) option to encypt until devs
solves(address) the problem

[Bug 858361] Re: Backport gedit-latex-plugin 3.3.1-1 from Precise to Oneiric

2011-10-19 Thread Tobias Kuhn
I had the same problem, but it works after installing the deb file.

One minor problem is that that bottom panel is not shown automatically.
I have to manually switch it on, each time I open a document. Is there a
way to tell gedit to always show the bottom panel? It used to remember
the last setting, but now it doesn't anymore. I suppose it's rather a
gedit issue and has nothing to do with latex.

[Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions

2011-10-19 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
@cvargas-z compiz is a compositing manager that uses 3D graphics
hardware to create good looking and fast compositing effects on your
desktop. In the newer Ubuntu versions, it is primarily used by the Unity
graphical shell. When using 11.10 without compiz, your system probably
fell back to Unity-2D, which is a Qt/QML based version of the Unity
shell. This is not really a bad thing. For better graphics cards, using
Unity/compiz makes your shell (the windows, launchers etc.) have better
effects and run faster, but the difference is not that big (I am
personally using Unity-2D all the time).

[Bug 877936] [NEW] Xubuntu 11.04 fresh installation crashes

2011-10-19 Thread Zoe Korten
Public bug reported:

Sorry if this is being reported by me for the second time, I couldn't
locate last nights report.

I have a Gigabyte E1500 laptop. I have had at least 3 unsuccessful
attempts at installing Xubuntu 11.04 as a fresh install with separate
partitions (format all) for /home, /user/local and '. It would appear
that the installation process halts at the same point each time. I no
longer have that specific text but I recall it was something along the
lines of determining which packages to delete. Prior attempting a fresh
install of 11.04 I had performed a fresh install of 11.10 but my
wireless connections were playing up. Since the wireless worked well via
the USB installer of 11.04, and on Ubuntu forums others with the same
problem had said they would revert back to 11.04, I decided that I
should do another fresh install but with 11.04. I am a complete noob
when it comes to linux as I've only been doing this on my own since
early this year - prior I had someone else sorting out all the installs
etc.

[Bug 877752] Re: wireless_before_suspend failed

2011-10-19 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi Daniel,

The logic of the test is as follows:

If checks if you *have* a wireless connection at the point of running
the test with 'nmcli -f SSID,ACTIVE dev wifi list'

For you this should be 'wiberg.nu'

It then uses this to get the connection from the list of existing ones,
and here's the problem - it picks up 'wiberg.nu 971ebaeb-
9ce2-40c3-bc43-be5f621c33ff vpn never' as the connection to use in the
test. It then knocks down all your existing connections and brings back
up your 'wireless' connection (which in this case is not one).

Try:

> active_connection=$(nmcli -f SSID,ACTIVE dev wifi list | grep yes)
> ap=$(echo $active_connection | awk -F\' '{print $2}')
> conn=$(nmcli -t -f UUID,NAME con list | grep wireless | grep -e "$ap$" | awk
> -F\: '{print $1}')

versus:

> active_connection=$(nmcli -f SSID,ACTIVE dev wifi list | grep yes)
> ap=$(echo $active_connection | awk -F\' '{print $2}')
> conn=$(nmcli -t -f UUID,NAME con list | grep -e "$ap$" | awk -F\: '{print
> $1}')

If it's ok to change the 'wiberg.nu' connection name to something like
'wibergvpn' then this will let the test run. In the meanwhile please
check the modified code and let me know if it works.

[Bug 840668] Re: oneiric virtualbox-4.1.2 bad guest CD URL

2011-10-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package virtualbox - 4.1.4-dfsg-1

---
virtualbox (4.1.4-dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Fixes missing icons when using pt_BR locale. (Closes: #507188)
- Fixes guest additions download url. (Closes: #637349; LP: #840668)
  * Refresh patches.
  * Drop the vboxmouse x11 driver. The mouse integration is now completely
handled by the kernel module.
  * Restrict dh_pycentral to the virtualbox binary package.
  * Merge changes from the Ubuntu package but use them only when built
on Ubuntu:
- Add an Apport hook.
- Add vboxguest modalias to the package control field.
  * Pass KBUILD_VERBOSE=2 to kmk.
  * Add 36-fix-text-mode.patch to fix text mode when using the vboxvideo driver.

[Bug 760512] Re: Chromium's LP translations overwritten by imports

2011-10-19 Thread David Planella
I'm marking it as Invalid for the Ubuntu Translations project, as
Chromium's translations are handled in Launchpad's upstream project, but
not in the Ubuntu packages. In Ubuntu we can currently only translate
packages from the main repository, and Chromium is in universe.

However, the chromium-browser bug is still valid. I'm also adding a task
for Launchpad do keep track of it.

[Bug 794565] Re: The Dash doesn't give results when searching using key letters

2011-10-19 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
I think this would be a nice to address. We have some snafu in the code
on how to treat underscores (xapian's TermGenerator does not break on
underscores - which we shamefully exploit in some cases...). Also
breaking on transitions between numerals and characters seems like a
sensible thing to do.

This is also very related to breaking words in CamelCase for which I was
certain there was a bug logged, but now I can't find it. I'll be using
the tag 'text-analysis' to track these kinds of bugs.

wouldn't be surprised if fx. Games or Accessories contains > 500 apps.
Is the intention to just list them all?

After I upgraded my Samsung N130 to 11.10, system became unusable

[Bug 541620] Re: Ralink RT3090 Wireless Not Supported in Lucid

2011-10-19 Thread MMlosh
The "Fixed" Natty is complete gibberish and broken. ( 2.6.38-11-generic
#50-ubuntu)
RFkill ability has been added to rt3090pci and hp_wmi.. result - the wifi is
hard-blocked and cannot be unblocked
removing rt2800pci and loading rt2860sta no longer fixes the issues.. the wifi
is RFkilled.

[Bug 877949] [NEW] Ralink RT3090 cannot be un-RFkilled on HP notebook

2011-10-19 Thread MMlosh
Public bug reported:

Can't get my RT3090 wifi out of RFKilled state
using kernel 2.6.38-11-generic #50-Ubuntu, rfkill ability was added to
rt2800pci and hp_wmi.

hp_wmi's rfkill controls change their hard-block status as the rfkill
button is pressed.

but rt2800pci controls say "unblocked" until I try to set wlan0's link
up. Then it figures out it has no response and marks itself Hard-
RFkilled. It completely ignores what hp-wmi says.

This bug may be resolved in Oneiric, I would test that sooner, but
everybody around said "Don't, graphics is borked"

Have exactly the same problem with my OKI B410d.
Tried different drivers, no luck on 11.10, everything worked fine on 11.04.

Attaching some logs.
errors_log contain the following:
- restart of cups
- printing test page from printer settings page
- printed ok
- waiting a bit
- printing test page again
- pages start spitting out
- turned off the printer
- turned on the printer
- jammed page came out and after a second the print page was actually printed
as well (that's something new, didn't happen before)

In the logs you can see that I have DYMO label writer 450 printer as
well, it wasn't affected by upgrade to 11.10 and behaves normally.

Please propose a workaround or something, that's a total no-go for me.

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 877951] [NEW] After recent update, shading for window snapping appears even when no window is being moved

2011-10-19 Thread Doug Morse
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Sometime in the last 24-48 hours, some update has caused Unity / Window
Snapping to start appearing, even when I am not moving a window at all.
The problem is intermittent, but once it occurs, the only solution is to
log off and back on. I have not yet been able to determine what causes
the problem.

The problem, more specifically, is that that a large orange box appears
if I move my mouse to either the left or right side of the screen, and
the box stays there, even if I switch viewports. Terribly annoying and
distracting, but otherwise seemingly harmless. It even persists into
the Expo view of my four viewports.

The attached screenshot.png file shows the problem on the left side, the
right side, and in expo view, respectively.

Going into expo mode and switching viewports does make the undesired
orange box go away, but as soon as I move the mouse to either the left
or right side of the screen, the orange box comes back again. Logging
off appears to be the only way to fix the problem.

The problem does _not_ seems to occur if their is no visible window in
the viewport when the mouse is moved either full left or full right.
The problem _does_ persist, however, once it has occurred and I switch
to another viewport without any visible windows.

Just to repeat for clarity: These problems occur simply by moving the
mouse to either left or right edge of the screen; I am not moving any
windows by any method, nor is any mouse button being clicked and/or held
when this occurs. This problems was _not_ occurring after I initially
upgraded to Oneiric from Natty -- the problem started only in the last
day or two (I have been updating daily).

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Doug

- the gnupg part has been fixed only in Ubuntu since 11.04 I think, but the
whole translation should be sent upstream

Ciao.

[Bug 850229] Re: Unread email count in thunderbird shown wrongly in messaging menu and launcher icon

2011-10-19 Thread Craig Esterhuizen
My Messaging menu does not contain Thunderbird at all, just a "Mail"
item and when I get new mail, it does not reflect that. Also on the
launcher icon for Thunderbird there is no unread count showing over the
icon. I am rather disappointed with this situation and is there
anything I can do to fix it? Or is that the work involved in this bug.
I only have Thunderbird installed and no other mail programs. If I
click the Mail item in the Messaging menu it takes me to Thunderbird but
there is no unread count available visually anywhere. I do have
notifications installed which pop up a dialog box when mail arrives.
This is frustrating because all these things used to work in the
previous Ubuntu version.
