[Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)
I have been bothered by this flickering and automatic display switching issue since installation of Natty (also previously when i upgraded from Maverick to Natty). I am glad to find this bug here, and tried some of the proposed solutions (mainline, backport to maverick). None of them really works for me. My setup is as follows: I have a T410s running natty fresh installed. At office i have an old dell Fp2001 and a mini dock 3, at home a Samsung 225BW without dock. I realise with the office setting i do not seemed to have the issue at all, but only at home i experience the switching(flickering) and crash if i attempt to FN-F7 for a few times. Now the only setup that somehow works is - maverick kernel 2.6.35-02063513-generic from mainline kernel, and with compiz turned off then the system somehow works. When i have time i will try the 2.6.35-22 (which should be the 2.6.35-4 in mainline i suppose?) and see if that helps me. My suspicion is: the kernel attempt to detect the connected external monitor, but due to some unknown reasons, it made the decision that the monitor is missing (due to weak signal via the cable or refresh rate?) therefore attempt to automatically change back to internal display. And if only external monitor is selected, then the flickering mode is selected. hope my report and experience here helps a little. I have no idea about the bisection thing - if it is not too difficult or time consuming i am willing to help perhaps next week. thanks. regards, wahlau -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112 Title: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 86184] Re: Can't change cursor style using Compiz.
The update-alternatives solution, however, does not correct the size aspect of the cursor theme. I chose DMZ-Black medium for my (then) karmic install on a netbook. The theme migrated correctly until natty, where the symptoms desctibed in this bug occurred: correct theme over non-GTK windows only, default everywhere else. No amount of UI-based config corrected it. After a couple hours, update-alternatives managed to bring back DMZ-Black, but not the medium size. [Bug 785571] Re: "Sound Preferences..." should be "Sound Settings"
This clearly is a really nice consistency issue. - We have System settings in the session indicator without ellipsis - Broadcast accounts... and About me... in the me menu with ellipsis - Time & Date Settings... in indicator-datetime with ellipsis - Network settings... in the connman-based network indicator (although this is not a default, don't know anything about the nm) - Keyboard Preferences without ellipsis in the keyboard layout indicator So right now it seems very inconsistent to me. [Bug 776964] Re: p5n32e-plus HDA Nvidia AD1988B microphone input not working
To test / install fix... a bit involved this. I can't work out how to get launchpad to make a kernel package for my PPA, so had to do it manually. The source package linked to this isn't actually the full kernel sources, which you need to build. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2010/11/06/how-to-compile-a-ubuntu-10-10-maverick-kernel/ You need the git tree for the kernel you want, currently that's git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-natty.git The server isn't all that fast ; I found it faster to clone the "Linus" tree from kernel .org git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git cd linux-2.6 And then do git remote add natty git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-natty.git get fetch natty git checkout -b fix-ad1988b-mic natty/master Apply the patch attached to bug ticket patch sound/pci/hda/patch_analog.c /path/to/patch_analog.c.diff , edit the debian.master/changelog file as described in http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2011/01/10/how-to-update-the-version-of-your-custom-ubuntu-10-10-kernel/ ... to add a .1 to the end of the version number. Commit the changes to your git clone git add debian.master/changelog sound/pci/hda/patch_analog.c git commit -m "Fixed AD1988B mic input bug" .. and then build as described in the "compilation" section of article linked above ("How to compile an Ubuntu 10.10 kernel") Make a cup of tea. And savour it. This takes AAAGES. You should end up with some deb files in the folder above the sources, with your new version number. Install the header packages, and the linux-image. cd .. dpkg -i linux-headers*.deb linux-image*.deb ... and reboot. If I work out how to get Soyuz to build me a kernel image in my PPA you could just download it from that :-( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776964 Title: p5n32e-plus HDA Nvidia AD1988B microphone input not working -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 590108] Re: User get wrong system language after executing oem-config, if he is a foreigner in the country he selected in timezone select stage
For the record, this is how gdm and language-selector address the situation where a user does not want to use the 'standard' language in a given locale. (A common example is a Swedish user who wants to see his desktop in English). - $LANG defines the general locale, i. e. for currency, time format, paper size etc. (sv_SE.utf8 in above example). - $LANGUAGE overrides that to define the primary/secondary language for translations (e. g. "en_US:en" in above example) - $LC_MESSAGES is set to the most preferred language (e. g. en_US.utf8 in above example) for software which does not use $LANGUAGE, e. g. thunderbird. This leaves the $LC_* variables free for individual further customization. The other alternative would be to set $LANG as the language, and then set $LC_CURRENCY, $LC_PAPER etc. to the location, but that's a lot more effort and a lot harder to change. The installer should not set $LANGUAGE from the time zone selector. This is wrong in either case, as $LANGUAGE is defined to not have any notion of a region/location at all. So ideally the initial question about the language should set $LANGUAGE and $LC_MESSAGES, and the time zone selector should set $LANG. If $LC_MESSAGES and $LANG would match, then it could just set $LANG. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/590108 Title: User get wrong system language after executing oem-config, if he is a foreigner in the country he selected in timezone select stage -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I apologize on not returning a message sooner. This problem seems to have fixed itself after a few days of use. Maybe some update fixed it; I don't know.
