[Bug 785005] Re: soffice.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in __kernel_vsyscall() after hibernate

2011-05-20 Thread anonymous mouse
Well, I guess it's nothing to do with Zotero. Using the Extension
Manager I disabled Zotero, and hibernated the machine some time later. I
just get back now, try to use OOo, and it crashed. I just confirmed that
Zotero had been disabled.

[Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)

2011-05-20 Thread wahlau
I have been bothered by this flickering and automatic display switching
issue since installation of Natty (also previously when i upgraded from
Maverick to Natty). I am glad to find this bug here, and tried some of
the proposed solutions (mainline, backport to maverick). None of them
really works for me.

My setup is as follows: I have a T410s running natty fresh installed. At
office i have an old dell Fp2001 and a mini dock 3, at home a Samsung
225BW without dock. I realise with the office setting i do not seemed to
have the issue at all, but only at home i experience the
switching(flickering) and crash if i attempt to FN-F7 for a few times.

Now the only setup that somehow works is - maverick kernel
2.6.35-02063513-generic from mainline kernel, and with compiz turned off
then the system somehow works. When i have time i will try the 2.6.35-22
(which should be the 2.6.35-4 in mainline i suppose?) and see if that
helps me.

My suspicion is: the kernel attempt to detect the connected external
monitor, but due to some unknown reasons, it made the decision that the
monitor is missing (due to weak signal via the cable or refresh rate?)
therefore attempt to automatically change back to internal display. And
if only external monitor is selected, then the flickering mode is
selected.

hope my report and experience here helps a little. I have no idea about
the bisection thing - if it is not too difficult or time consuming i am
willing to help perhaps next week.

thanks.

regards, wahlau

[Bug 785587] [NEW] g++ crashes over an array initialization in a long line of a cpp file

2011-05-20 Thread Koray Kalmaz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcc-4.5

While playing around, I noticed that command: "$ g++ -Wall -o getart
getart.cpp" repeatedly crashes with the following output:

getart.cpp: In constructor ‘drawing::drawing()’:
getart.cpp:30:151: warning: extended initializer lists only available with
-std=c++0x or -std=gnu++0x
getart.cpp:30:151: error: too many initializers for ‘std::string [15]’
getart.cpp:30: confused by earlier errors, bailing out

[Bug 86184] Re: Can't change cursor style using Compiz.

2011-05-20 Thread Nicolas Briche
The update-alternatives solution, however, does not correct the size
aspect of the cursor theme.

I chose DMZ-Black medium for my (then) karmic install on a netbook.
The theme migrated correctly until natty, where the symptoms desctibed
in this bug occurred: correct theme over non-GTK windows only, default
everywhere else. No amount of UI-based config corrected it. After a
couple hours, update-alternatives managed to bring back DMZ-Black, but
not the medium size. So now my cursor switches sizes depending on the
window it's hovering.

[Bug 785592] [NEW] Battery status marked as "charged" whereas it's not

2011-05-20 Thread merc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

This is very odd.
My battery is not new, and it shows a little:

$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info
present: yes
design capacity: 63000 mWh
last full capacity: 38390 mWh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 11250 mV
design capacity warning: 3150 mWh
design capacity low: 630 mWh
cycle count: 0
capacity granularity 1: 1 mWh
capacity granularity 2: 1 mWh
model number:42T4815
serial number:3179
battery type:LION
OEM info:LGC 11

But it's not as bad as it *could* be.
BUT...
Look at this:

cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
present: yes
capacity state: ok
charging state: charged
present rate:0 mW
remaining capacity: 260 mWh
present voltage: 11289 mV

Err... 260mWh and *charged*?

The problem is that it won't charge, no matter what I do with it.

This started happening after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.4.

What can I do?

If it matters, it's a Lenovo Thinkpad. Battery is bout 1 year old.

Bye,

Mrc.

[Bug 785571] Re: "Sound Preferences..." should be "Sound Settings"

2011-05-20 Thread Robert Roth
This clearly is a really nice consistency issue.
- We have System settings in the session indicator without ellipsis
- Broadcast accounts... and About me... in the me menu with ellipsis
- Time & Date Settings... in indicator-datetime with ellipsis
- Network settings... in the connman-based network indicator (although this is
not a default, don't know anything about the nm)
- Keyboard Preferences without ellipsis in the keyboard layout indicator
So right now it seems very inconsistent to me. I did not know about the HIG
mentioning this, but I do consider this a very nice thing to comply with to
reduce the inconsistency.

[Bug 776964] Re: p5n32e-plus HDA Nvidia AD1988B microphone input not working

2011-05-20 Thread Adrian Wilkins
To test / install fix... a bit involved this. I can't work out how to
get launchpad to make a kernel package for my PPA, so had to do it
manually. The source package linked to this isn't actually the full
kernel sources, which you need to build.

See

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Kernel/Compile
http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2010/11/06/how-to-compile-a-ubuntu-10-10-maverick-kernel/

You need the git tree for the kernel you want, currently that's

git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-natty.git

The server isn't all that fast ; I found it faster to clone the "Linus"
tree from kernel .org

git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git
cd linux-2.6

And then do

git remote add natty git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-natty.git
get fetch natty
git checkout -b fix-ad1988b-mic natty/master

Apply the patch attached to bug ticket

patch sound/pci/hda/patch_analog.c /path/to/patch_analog.c.diff

, edit the debian.master/changelog file as described in
http://blog.avirtualhome.com/2011/01/10/how-to-update-the-version-of-your-custom-ubuntu-10-10-kernel/

... to add a .1 to the end of the version number.

Commit the changes to your git clone

git add debian.master/changelog sound/pci/hda/patch_analog.c
git commit -m "Fixed AD1988B mic input bug"

.. and then build as described in the "compilation" section of article
linked above ("How to compile an Ubuntu 10.10 kernel")

Make a cup of tea. And savour it. This takes AAAGES.

You should end up with some deb files in the folder above the sources,
with your new version number. Install the header packages, and the
linux-image.

cd ..
dpkg -i linux-headers*.deb linux-image*.deb

... and reboot.

If I work out how to get Soyuz to build me a kernel image in my PPA
you could just download it from that :-(

[Bug 785595] [NEW] desktop change by click on dash symbol depends on history

2011-05-20 Thread Fritz Heinrichmeyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Package: unity
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
unity: Architecture: amd64 Version: 3.8.12-0ubuntu1

Changing to the desktop where the application resides only works when
the application was created in the current desktop and shifted to the
other desktop. If it was created in another desktop, desktop change on
click at the dash symbol has no effect. I tested this with gnome-
terminal and geany.

I interpreted a statement of Mark Shuttleworth that in any case clicking
on the dash icon should make the application visible.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 785594] [NEW] system update crashed when trying to update a package which is not part of the official distribution (hudson) : Value 1034917888 out of range for In

Public bug reported:

Synaptic Manager. sudo apt-get install hudson works. The system update

crashes because of this update.

[Bug 760814] Re: Compiz Very Slow and Choppy in Natty Classic

2011-05-20 Thread Simon Schneegans
Well, the problem returned. After some hours of using compiz, wobbly
window movement became choppy again. A compiz --replace helps for some
time, but after some time working, moving windows will become quite
annoying again.

For this bug, disabling alpha blur had the same effect as restarting
compiz obviously.

[Bug 590108] Re: User get wrong system language after executing oem-config, if he is a foreigner in the country he selected in timezone select stage

2011-05-20 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, this is how gdm and language-selector address the
situation where a user does not want to use the 'standard' language in a
given locale. (A common example is a Swedish user who wants to see his
desktop in English).

- $LANG defines the general locale, i. e. for currency, time format, paper size
etc. (sv_SE.utf8 in above example).
- $LANGUAGE overrides that to define the primary/secondary language for
translations (e. g. "en_US:en" in above example)
- $LC_MESSAGES is set to the most preferred language (e. g. en_US.utf8 in above
example) for software which does not use $LANGUAGE, e. g. thunderbird.

This leaves the $LC_* variables free for individual further
customization.

The other alternative would be to set $LANG as the language, and then
set $LC_CURRENCY, $LC_PAPER etc. to the location, but that's a lot more
effort and a lot harder to change.

The installer should not set $LANGUAGE from the time zone selector. This
is wrong in either case, as $LANGUAGE is defined to not have any notion
of a region/location at all.

So ideally the initial question about the language should set $LANGUAGE
and $LC_MESSAGES, and the time zone selector should set $LANG. If
$LC_MESSAGES and $LANG would match, then it could just set $LANG.

[Bug 776978] Re: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty)

2011-05-20 Thread harry
Just an observation... In my dual boot environment (Windows7 and Ubuntu)
the longer I stay in Ubuntu without switching Windows the worse and more
frequent my video issues happen. Once I log into windows, even if just
for a minute, when I boot back into Ubuntu, I am then able to add a
monitor without problem. It also seems to help with the other issues I
have such as crashing on sleep mode.

[Bug 776964] Re: p5n32e-plus HDA Nvidia AD1988B microphone input not working

2011-05-20 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Patch accepted by ALSA dev mailing list.

Upstream bug at

https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=5368

** Bug watch added: ALSA Bug Tracker #5368
   https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=5368

** Description changed:

+ Upstream bug at
+ https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=5368
+
Before installing Natty, had previously suffered with bug #593018 (only
works after switching to another input setting and back) for several
  releases.

Now that I've installed Natty, the workaround no longer functions, I
cannot get the mic input working regardless of how I manipulate the
input settings via the sound preferences or alsamixer. This now blocks
certain productive uses of the sound hardware (Skype calling,
  principally).

Would be interested to see if original reporter also has noted this so I
shall subscribe him (perhaps he can test it with a Live distribution).

Since I can not made a Network connection with the Netgear WLAN-Adapter using

this program to access Launchpad on your behalf.

Waiting to hear from Launchpad about your decision...
