[Bug 763422] Re: [i965] idle black screen plus other issues Ubuntu 11.04

2011-05-12 Thread Giggaflop
i also wish to note that i am now using,
http://ppa.launchpad.net/oibaf/graphics-drivers/ubuntu
and the graphics blackscreen on idle has reduced 10 fold, but does still occur.
typically i had just converted my whole family to ubuntu as this bug occurs XD
so we are now all stuck with this issue

[Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-05-12 Thread Berend Dekens
@Stefanek kudos for a stable work-around! I only replace Xorg with the
1.9 version and left the nvidia driver at 270.41.06 and after dragging
Konsole across 2 monitors for 5 minutes I still didn't lock up!

And I agree with the general consensus that this is quite severe and
taking way too long to fix. I just disabled the update notifications for
Kubuntu and I'll resume updating my system once this bug is resolved...

[Bug 781591] [NEW] Regression: 147 second boot delay waiting for BIOS to hand off EHCI

2011-05-12 Thread EliCoten
Public bug reported:

During bootup there is an unacceptably long delay. After looking through the
dmesg log it turns out that the delay seems to have been at a line that says
[ 149.596033] pci :00:13.5: EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug?) 01010001

I did not notice this problem with Ubuntu 10.10 - it's new since I
upgraded. It may be related that in the previous version the fan (and
FN+F6/F6 brightness keys) wasn't working on initial bootup. If I did
suspend and then resume, the fan and brightness keys worked as they do
in Windows. Now in Natty, the fan seems to increase in speed gradually
but then when the temperature cools down the fan doesn't slow down. Also
in Maverick, hibernate usually worked fine whereas in this version
hibernate just seems to do the equivalent of 'lock screen'.

Am new at reporting bugs so please advise on what other logs/attachments
I should post.

[Bug 774089] Re: Booting fails 3 times, works every fourth time after new install of Natty Narwhal amd64 on Macbook Pro

2011-05-12 Thread Aleix Domènech Turrado
Hi there guys!

I'm following the above posted guide about blessing the EFI manually,
but I'm having a problem with the bless command.

Here's the error I get in the terminal when I enter the bless command:

No appropriate ESP for /
Failed to determine auxiliary partition mountpoint for /
Error while writing firmware updater for EFI

Annyone knows how to solve this? I downloaded the correct firmware
(MacBook 5.1 late 2008).

Thanks in advance ;)

[Bug 781595] [NEW] Certificate verification fails with "error=invalid CA certificate"

2011-05-12 Thread Ingmar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openvpn

Trying to connect to my VPN gateway I always get the following errors:

Thu May 12 12:04:42 2011 VERIFY ERROR: depth=1, error=invalid CA certificate:
/C=DE/ST=Baden-Wuerttemberg/O=MY_PRIVATE_CA/OU=VPN/CN=hostname/emailAddress=MY_EMAIL

failed
Thu May 12 12:04:42 2011 TLS Error: TLS object -> incoming plaintext read error
Thu May 12 12:04:42 2011 TLS Error: TLS handshake failed

Worked a long time with this config and I didn't changed it. "openssl
verify ..." also says that the cert is valid so I think this may be a
bug in the openvpn package.

[Bug 647466] Re: gcalctool window is not resizable

2011-05-12 Thread Dave
I've upgraded to maverick, and that for the above reasons, and also
because the old version of gcalctool reads from the numeric keypad
without you having to have numlock on, have downgraded to the lucid
version as described above.

For anyone else who has done (or is doing this) I've found that, after
installation, running

echo "gcalctool hold" | dpkg --set-selections

as root solves the problem of automatic updates trying to re-'upgrade'
it back to the more modern, but less functional version.

[Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2011-05-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
As I mentioned earlier, this was on the agenda for the xserver wishlist
bugs session at UDS, and was discussed yesterday. From reviewing the
current status of the bug here and upstream, there seems to be a
legitimate issue in general, however the general fix for this (e.g.
Ajax's branch) are not things we would want to risk pulling in as a
backport, nor something of high enough importance for the ubuntu x team
to invest time into, so for these reasons we're closing the issue as a
wontfix at this time.

However, we are concerned about the cases where specific hardware is
significantly broken (as several have described in recent comments).
But these issues are difficult to analyze and work on within the context
of this particular bug report. For users with issues that need deeper
investigation, please file a NEW bug using this command:

  $ ubuntu-bug xorg

It would be helpful if you can reference bug 124406, and include the
word 'keyboard' in the title so it gets autofiled predictably.

I tried to compile media-video/avidemux-2.5.4-r2, but the compile phase
always fails. I have been able to patch the problem successfully. GCC
4.6 is stricter than previous versions and avidemux code triggers some

standard.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -1 gcc:4.6
2. use it as default compiler
3. emerge -1 avidemux
Actual Results:
Avidemux fails to compile.

Expected Results:
Avidemux should compile fine.

I'm on ~amd64 but I guess the compile errors should show up on any architecture
when using GCC 4.6. The errors arise because GCC 4.6 is stricter than previous
versions about code semantics. I tried with and without graphite flags (whole
world was recompiled), and all of the available versions in portage. I have
tried also the SVN ebuild from multimedia overlay but it still fails in the
same spots.
The three attached patches resolve the problems and allow avidemux to compile
fine. I've tested the avidemux GUI interface which is the affected part and it
works ok.
It should not introduce errors with previous GCC versions since the patch is
cosmetic only (I've been unable to test with GCC<4.6).
I guess this should also be filed upstream.
Thanks.

According to the thread on the forums the patches for qt4 and x264 interfaces

I linked this bug and asked to pull the xvid one if it is still missing.

[Bug 423071] Re: PHP5 now depends on libapache2-mod-php5 even if lighttpd installed

2011-05-12 Thread Ondřej Surý
I don't think there's a bug in PHP5 here, if the apache2 is getting
installed then it's a bug in APT resolving the dependencies somewhere.

Also it _is_ documented:
This package is a meta-package that, when installed, guarantees that you
have at least one of the four server-side versions of the PHP5 interpreter
installed. Removing this package won't remove PHP5 from your system, however
it may remove other packages that depend on this one.

And there's no bug in 9.10 - this is normal behaviour. If you run "apt-
get install php5" it will install the first alternative dependency. If
you did "apt-get install php5 php5-cgi" then it would work.

[Bug 723276] Re: /usr/bin/hdspmixer is missing

2011-05-12 Thread zob
I can confirm the but in the ubuntu 11.04 package build.

Everything seems to be fine, modules loaded and stuff. But I can't find the
hdspmixer.
Normally it's included in the alsa-tools and alsa-tools-gui packages. And
actually the mixer GUI does get an entry in the menu. But there is no command
for it to execute. It is supposed to run hdspmixer - but it's not there.
If I write "hdsp" and try to autocomplete with tab in the terminal, I can now
only se hdsploader and hdspconf (both seem to run just fine btw.).

[Bug 772176] Re: [SRU] Natty: 'Next' and 'Previous' navigation links are untranslatable

2011-05-12 Thread Gabor Kelemen
There is one more problem with the validation of this. The yelp-xsl
template was not approved, imported to LP and exported to language
packs, so the reason you can't see them translated with the update, may
be that the translations are simply not there. I approved it now, but it
will take some time until new langpacks will be generated into the
langpack PPA.

[Bug 780971] Re: openbabel (main) should not b-d on wxwidgets (universe)

2011-05-12 Thread Jonathan Thomas
OpenBabel is needed for a major feature in Kalzium (its molecular
editor). The Kubuntu team would very much like to keep this
functionality.

Recently, Debian has added an openbabel-gui package to reflect the new
OpenBabel GUI from upstream. Unfortunately this means that there cannot
be any tricks to put this binary package in universe while keeping the
openbabel source packae in main.

To solve this, we could drop the openbabel-gui package from openbabel's
source package. If there is interest in keeping this package around
(there might not be since it is new), an openbabel-universe package
could be made that only ships this binary package. Of course interest in
the gui package is vital for this separate source package to work.

The Kubuntu team would very much prefer this solution to gimping
Kalzium's functionality.

(P.S. I'm also subscribing Kubuntu-Bugs instead of having it assigned,
since Kubuntu-bugs is nothing more than a bugmail funnel.)

[Bug 781608] [NEW] Maverick fails to power off PC after shutdown

2011-05-12 Thread David Haworth
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) my PC won't power down
(sometimes: see below) after shutdown. The disk spins down but the PC
doesn't go to standby. The problem may be connected with the BIOS alarm-
clock feature that I'm using that also ("sometimes") doesn't work any
more - or maybe the cause/effect is reversed.

Background: I have the PC's BIOS alarm clock set to wake up the PC early
in the morning before I get to work to run some automatic jobs. When I
leave at night I shut down the PC manually. On weekends and when I'm not
in a cron job shuts down the PC. This was all working without problems
under Lucid.

Problem:
What happens under Maverick is this:
* I go into the BIOS settings and save them (F10 + Y) without changing anything.
* the PC boots
* on the next shutdown ("shutdown -h now") to PC shuts down and powers off to
standby mode correctly
* the next morning the BIOS alarm clock wakes up the PC correctly, and Ubuntu
boots
* on the next shutdown Ubuntu shuts itself down as far as I can tell. The disk
spins down anyway, and the red dots on the splash screen stop cycling.
* the next morning the BIOS fails to wake up the PC.
* as far as I have determined so far the PC stays in the "won't power
down/won't auto-start" state. It seems to do so when I shut down and start up
again during the day anyway.

My system is a fully updated Maverick for i386 (32-bit), The processor
is an Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz. I don't know what the
mainboard is (PC supplied by IT dept). The BIOS is intel, according to
the splash screen.

Any ideas? It's a bit of a pain to have to reboot into the BIOS just
before I shut down every evening.

I suspect the bug might be in the kernel, but I'm not sure.
I've tried some acpi options on the kernel command line. acpi=force (no
effect), acpi=off (won't power off anyway, I think) acpi=strict (no effect).

[Bug 646724] Re: not all files show up in files-place

2011-05-12 Thread Christoph Buchner
So, who's up to writing a script that "touches" each file in a desired
directory? :-P this, as well as my comment #29, would neatly circumvent this
problem, no?
Also, what exactly does "touching" mean? I can neatly touch all files on my
harddisk if I let baobab (the disk usage analyzer) run over it, but that won't
work, will it? What would the cheapest (performance-wise) application be to do
this?

btw, Seif, are you sure about this location limitation for tracker? It's
been a while since I last used it, but I seem to remember that I could
add user-chosen locations with one visit to preferences, to be indexed
by tracker.

[Bug 781618] [NEW] Editor windows enter a read only state on screen locks and workspace changes

2011-05-12 Thread Adrian Wilkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

Under certain circumstances, Java editor windows are locked to read-
only. You can still navigate the text with the cursor, but the title of
the tab is greyed out, and typing text into the window is locked.
Sometimes this state is soluble by closing all current editor tabs,
sometimes it requires a restart of Eclipse

Previously (in GNOME 2), this state only seemed to occur as the result
of a screen lock (in GNOME), and even then, not reliably. I cannot seem
to provoke this from a manual screen lock, so perhaps it only occurs
when the screensaver kicks in.

In Unity, this seems to occur when you use desktop workspace switching
to move to another desktop, and then back to the current one. This makes
it much more annoying.

[Bug 775370] Re: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

2011-05-12 Thread Eliah Kagan
@Artur Hubert
As I recommended to Sharjeel Lasharie, I recommend that you either post a
question about this problem
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+addquestion), or post a
new bug report as Jean-Baptiste Lallement instructed. (Either way, I recommend
you include a summary of the actions you've taken so far, and link back to this
bug.)

To be clear, there is no reason to think that the precise causes of your
problem and of Sharjeel Lasharie's problem are the same--so even if
Sharjeel Lasharie has created a new question or bug, you should still
make your own (though you might look in Sharjeel's, to see if maybe a
solution there works for you).

[Bug 781308] Re: GRUB2 Boot Screen, on 11.04 "Signal Out of Range"

2011-05-12 Thread Eliah Kagan
@Fred Seeman
What you've posted in question 154811 indicates that you're able to boot the
machine (just not see the GRUB2 menu). So please attach valuable information to
this bug report by booting into Ubuntu, opening a Terminal window (Ctrl+Alt+T),
and running this command:

apport-collect 781308

(To run that command, you can paste it into the Terminal window and
press enter.)
