[Bug 780731] Re: package xserver-xorg-video-apm 1:1.2.3-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: package xserver-xorg-video-apm is already installed and configured

2011-05-11 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
The root problem is that a dpkg invocation is failing because it can't
get the lock.

dpkg: status database area is locked by another process

And apt then tries to configure the package that has not been unpacked
in this previous invocation.

Were you using dpkg in parallel to update-manager?

I'm not sure how else it could have happened...

** Summary changed:

[Bug 780373] Re: evolution not asking for password in natty

2011-05-11 Thread Joakim Kargaard
We turned off the proxy system wide and then evolution worked. So the
problem seems to actually be that evolution does not work if there is a
proxy server, which is a huge shortcoming.

[Bug 743323] Re: vlc memory leak

2011-05-11 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
@LocutusOfBorg It's not a simple bug fix to be backported. It is a
massive rewrite of the affected plug-in.

And then, that new version has its own problem: I perceive a lot of
stutter at super-nominal playback speeds. Also sometimes audio and video
are not synchronized. So I think it is not ready for releasing; that is
why it is only in a development version.

In the mean time, I would advise either disabling the PulseAudio plugin
from Ubuntu VLC 1.1.x builds, or lowering its priority below that of the
ALSA plugin (like it was in VLC 1.0.x).

Even when it has the same event ID, I think that claws should display the

The calendar might display the information.

The problem that I have is that it is a recurring event which has some
updates for single occurences. And now I can only see the last update.

Re: [Bug 761312] Re: audio stream keeps becoming corrupted when listening to music

2011-05-11 Thread Tim
Is there any other way I might be able to catch logs of this bug?

As I said previously I can go a week without any issues while logging
pulseaudio as per the link above. As soon as I switch back to not logging
this corruption of streams happens atleast 3 times per day, sometimes more.

Its kinda like there is some delay caused by the logging and this is
avoiding a race condition.

[Bug 572869] Re: CUPS is unable to authenticate using kerberos (known bug)

2011-05-11 Thread Bart Vermeulen
I am also experiencing problems using cups with kerberos.

The problem is that cups runs the smb backend as root which doesn't know
where to find the kerberos ticket (since the environment variable
KRB5CCNAME is not defined there). Making a small script that exports the
ticket cache name and than calls the backend does the job, but the
ticket cache name changes name on every login (this can be changed
though).

Calling the samba backend manually works perfectly fine and gives a
message that it is using kerberos authentication.

[Bug 780853] Re: workspace windows seem open all at once

2011-05-11 Thread Jim Campbell
Hi Rick,

This appears to be a support request, and not an issue related to the
documentation. I'm marking this as invalid, but please provide
additional detail if this is an actual bug.

If it is a support request, please post a question on the ubuntu forums
or on askubuntu.com

[Bug 779754] Re: NM status icon sometimes not clickable

2011-05-11 Thread Rudolf Klusal
Yes, same here.

If I need to click on NM applet icon, I must click on calendar, then
with opened dropdown menu go to left and so on. If it is open once, it
works, but it is still not clickable -- NM applet, Battery applet, BT
applet, Keyboard swtitcher applet, sound applet -- everything is not
clickable, except for Calendar. So I go to the nm via calendar, no
problem :-) I hope somebody will repair it soon ;)

[Bug 740126] Re: Disabling an output can cause vblank events to be missed

2011-05-11 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
** Summary changed:

- Something blocks compiz randomly several times per day
+ Disabling an output can cause vblank events to be missed

** Description changed:

+ When an output gets disabled - by being switched off by DPMS, unplugged,
+ etc - it's possible for applications to have pending vblank events
+ waiting on this output. If this occurs, the application will never
+ receive the vblank event. This manifests as the app appearing to hang
+ (in poll() on the X connection, if you attach GDB).
+
  Binary package hint: compiz

This seems to happen when I'm not at my laptop (ie, when the screensaver
has activated usually). When I return to my laptop, I find it in a state
which appears to be completely frozen (ie, nothing gets repainted on the
screen). However, I can switch to a console and things appear to be
working normally. I can send a SIGKILL to compiz and start another WM,
and then everything starts working normally again (although if I restart
compiz, it often crashes until I've restarted my laptop).

If I attach gdb to the hung compiz, I always see a trace which looks
  like this:

[Bug 780951] [NEW] Stand by and hibernate problem with 64bit version of ubuntu natty

2011-05-11 Thread Fariborz Nassermostofi
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

i have a big problem. I am using Ubuntu natty with a lenovo 3000 N500 laptop
with Nvidia graphic card. while there is no problem having standby and
hibernate with a 32bit version, there are problems with 64bit version. I had
the same porblem with ubuntu 10.10 64bit version.

Stand by works but returning from standby causes a reboot so i loos my session.
Hibernate causes a direct reboot.

Again there is no problem with 32 bit version. So whats wrong. Is
there any solution for this problem?

thx in advance.

[Bug 754948] Re: Desktop Wall & Viewport Switcher: Bindings for "Next" and "Prev" workspaces dont work. Bindings that use screen edges don't work.

2011-05-11 Thread Xavier
Same here on Unity.
This is the only desktop customization I use because I find it so much more
convenient than the expose. I'm actually happy to see that so many people had
the same idea :)

[Bug 776936] Re: Running KVM guest causes kernel panic on host

2011-05-11 Thread SergeiFranco
Today I noticed that although I removed the membaloon it didn't stick (possibly
due to panic not syncing the file).
I removed once again membaloon and started the guest with little bit better
results.
The system does not freeze immediately, but it leaves a lot of "oopses" in the
syslog/dmesg.
I am attaching these "oopses".

The highlight of the "oopses" is "BUG: unable to handle kernel paging
request at".

I am going to try kvm in NAT mode (btw how do I do that?) and see if
this is happening still.

[Bug 769092] Re: Atheros AR5001 [168c:001c] Wifi not working after suspend/resume

2011-05-11 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
Interesting that there are two places for unloading modules before suspend:
/etc/pm/config.d/
/etc/default/acpi-support
Does anyone know which is to be preferred?

@Ezra Reeves
The out of the box driver for the Ralink 2860 card (rt2800pci) should work, at
least if two things are taken care of:
1) there is a bug with pcie_aspm (PCI bus power saving) that is fixed with the
kernel now in natty-proposed. This bug breaks the WLAN after a suspend when
pcie_aspm is activated (e.g. on battery)

2) with PEAP with TKIP/MSCHAPv2 the module needs to be loaded with
"nohwcrypt=1" according to bug 777215.

If you find the out of the box module to have another bug it would be
helpful if you made a separate bug report about this with ubuntu-bug
linux so that it can be investigated and fixed.

Could you make your question about module unloading more specific?

[Bug 774897] Re: Preferences aren't saved

2011-05-11 Thread Paolo
I am outside home until next monday so i can't test with Debian!
But now i am on Ubuntu 10.10 with duplicity 0.6.10 & Deja-dup 16.1.1 and it is
all ok, preferences are saved!
I can't test with Deja-Dup 18.1.1 because there isn't a deb package and some
deps (like libnotify) aren't updated on Ubuntu so it take me long time if i
want to compile it! (sorry but this week i am very busy!)

@Michael: no, not only SSH preferences but all preferences! I've tried with
SSH, FTP and Local folder!
I'll try what you wrote me when I return home!

[Bug 780961] [NEW] Natty Xorg crashes on Thinkpad X201 (i915 driver) during screen updates

2011-05-11 Thread Selene Scriven
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ever since upgrading to natty a couple days ago, I've been having
problems with Xorg crashing. I got a traceback (already attached,
gdmlog1), which suggested something related to pthreads, so I tried
disabling hyperthreading and all but one core in BIOS. This reduced the
frequency of crashing from about once per 10 minutes to once per 2 days.
I don't know if it's specific to the intel driver, or if it is a more
general issue.

As far as steps for reproducing the issue... I'm not exactly sure. This is a
description of a typical session:
1. Log in via gdm. I'm using sawfish, with a custom Xsession.
2. Start a few programs. I ran xchat, chrome, midori, a few instances of
dillo, and a few instances if urxvt (client/server mode, not independent
instances).
3. Trigger a few window redraws, by changing desktops or moving windows around.
I triggered these actions via key shortcuts, generally a few times in a
fraction of a second.

Result: Once in a while, step 3 will cause an Xorg crash. The
frequency increases quite a bit with SMP enabled (2 cores + HT, so 4
logical CPUs).

[Bug 772951] Re: Super + Numeric shortcuts don't always work

2011-05-11 Thread Fred Bertolus
A have the same bug.

At startup, i never have the numbers (and shortcuts don't work). I found
a way to make these appear :

- I launch a terminal
- I launch a git pull, a popup appear to unlock my private key
- As soon as the popup appear, a corresponding item appear in the dock and the
number are present (and the shortcuts works).

[Bug 772923] Re: BCM4312 on HP Mini 2133 freezes with Natty

2011-05-11 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
>So it appears mainline kernels work, Ubuntu kernels don't.
but why then does 2.6.39-999-generic from the 2011-04-19-natty not work?

One possibility I can think of is that different modules are used. The lspci -k
command is useful for determining which module is in use and which ones are
available. e.g.:
lspci -k | grep Network --after-context 3

[Bug 780960] [NEW] Display Activities overlay (launcher with icons on the left and list of recently used files/applications) when user logs in

2011-05-11 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-shell

Lots of users doesn't know how to start any application in GNOME3, because
there are nothing related to "Applications" when GNOME desktop starts. In
Ubuntu Unity desktop shell the launcher with icons on the left is shown after
user logs in. I think GNOME3 desktop should have similar appearance (like
Unity) when started:
For most users the best option would be to display Activities (launcher with
icons on the left and list of recently used files and applications) when GNOME
desktop starts (when user logs in), and then add a visual hint as to how to
open Activities again when user does anything that closes the overlay.
This bug is already reported in GNOME upstream:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=648456

[Bug 779159] Re: [regression] after update to 11.04 wireless lan interruptions and Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x82000000

2011-05-11 Thread rix
Same problem here on a Toshiba Portege laptop with the same adapter:

02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN
[Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN
Kernel driver in use: iwlagn
Kernel modules: iwlagn

I've upgraded from lts (10.04) so I didn't experience this bug before.
