[Bug 779750] [NEW] Multiple Monitor Causes Partial Freeze

2011-05-09 Thread Jmadero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I plug in my external monitor after boot and then go to Preferences
-> Monitors my system has a partial freeze, everything becomes laggy,
mouse is unresponsive, can't go back into monitors to change the
configuration. Problem also occurs when I use xrandr command in
terminal. If I reboot with the external monitor plugged in the setup
works fine, but then if I go into monitors and change anything (ie.
primary monitor or resolution), the problems occur again.

[Bug 739469] Re: Dash search unavoidably returns offensive results

2011-05-09 Thread Jeremy Bicha
levu, I think you're creating a straw man. I refuse to believe emacs
users are offended by the presence of vi in Software Center and I think
if you were honest, you'd say that's ridiculous too.

I know Christians and Muslims who use Ubuntu. I've never met anyone
offended by the presence of Bible or Quran software in Ubuntu. Some
might prefer not to see religious software but that's different than the
porn button by trying to start a movie.

I am not a religious fanatic but as the bug description says, there are
numerous examples where not hiding illicit software can cause
significant problems for Ubuntu and Ubuntu users. We should have a
mature blacklist in Software Center for 11.10 (and not attempt to
outright censor free software that happens to be controversial), and the
blacklist should be enabled by default.

I think dopewars should be on this blacklist too. While just a text-
based game, the whole point is buying and drugs illegally in New York
City. While I think US drug laws need dramatic reform, I don't think
this is appropriate for the general Ubuntu audience. I only think there
are a few apps that would be on this list.

[Bug 775370] Re: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

2011-05-09 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
@Artur, this is because your problem is caused by dontzap not a PPA.
Please remove dontzap and try to upgrade again. In the future please
file a new report instead of adding me too to an existing report which
looks the same and actually isn't.

Thanks and don't hesitate to report any new bug.

[Bug 775675] Re: Touchpad freezes with natty after some use

2011-05-09 Thread sergio.callegari
It is about 3 days that the laptop works fine. So yes, I think it is ok to
close the bug.
Sorry for the noise.

I wonder if it could be the case to express a "wish", to have checks in
syndaemon to prevent it from starting twice and how.
Advice would be welcome. Better here or to mainstream?

[Bug 779753] [NEW] T400 laptop. Freezes or mouse stutters. Kworker process using too much CPU.

2011-05-09 Thread Wiggy
Public bug reported:

This occurred with a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 reverting to kernel
2.6.34-02063407 resolved the issue. Now I've upgraded to 11.04 problem
has reoccurred.

Laptop is Lenovo T400 with latest bios update. Periodically system will
freeze for approx 10-15 seconds then control can be regained but mouse
moment is jerky for another 10-15 seconds. Multiple kworker processes
use approx 50-90% CPU when view using top. After approx 30 seconds from
start of issue control is back to normal.

Issue seems to occur randomly, sometimes hours after boot, sometimes
minutes.

Even with that parameters I also have the same problems some times.

If that still happend append " vmalloc=256MB" to the same string.

Just remember that as nvidia documentation says, this only affects

[Bug 767634] Re: dpkg regression --force-depends

2011-05-09 Thread Jean
Hi, I'm facing the same too (and I am certainly not the only one)
You say the bug is fixed and released. But, my system being up to date, my dpkg
version is still 1.16.0~ubuntu7. Is there anything I should do to integrate the
fix as, since I upgrade to 11.04, I cannot use my printer.

Gytis, I it so great that you are here.

I do not have any proof, but given that the bad commit in gtk
c282958fb4bb25c736c682735002d15c50cb44d0 realy just is an optimization,
the usage of the affected funtion must be somewhat wrong - or at least
missunderstood.

All other gtk-applications just as fine after as before the change. The
change is quite small.

[Bug 779711] Re: Anjuta's glade plugin causes strange behavior

2011-05-09 Thread Johannes Schmid
This can happen sometimes if the minimal size of the widgets inside the
anjuta window is bigger that the minimal horizontal/vertical size. As
most of the widgets have a vertical scrollbar it usually happens in
horizontal direction. This confuses the window manager to act in weird
ways.

However, I don't know which widget is responsible in your screenshoot. I
would be great if you could check if this still happens with anjuta 3.0
(available from the gnome3 ppa) as there have been huge changes
especially in the glade plugin.

be named to test it!

Thanks,

Rob.

[Bug 779484] Re: Ralink 5390 wireless driver not included in Natty

2011-05-09 Thread Thomas de Graaff
I've committed this bug report on behalf of a community member facing
problems with his wireless on his brand new HP laptop. I can't test it
myself therefore. I asked him to test with this kernel, and post results
here. Another community member (https://launchpad.net/~djmusic121) who
uses the v2.6.39-rc5-oneiric kernel states that it doesn't show a trace
of this driver, but he doesn't have that specific wireless hardware so
he didn't do a hardware test.

[Bug 736171] Re: ath: Failed to stop TX DMA in 100 msec after killing last frame

2011-05-09 Thread Lukasz Olszewski
Well I've just noticed this bug isn't entirely fixed after all. I
thought it was but these errors still appear they are just much less
frequent and don't influence my connection stability as much as they
used to with 2.6.38-8. I am even able to use wifi card in 'n mode' which
wasn't possible before. Sadly, today I've noticed some heavy packet loss
and after checking the logs it turned out it's the same error. It just
appears less often.

[Bug 779773] [NEW] Empathy 'Previous Conversations' window grows wider forever

2011-05-09 Thread James Bunton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

$ apt-cache policy empathy
empathy:
  Installed: 2.34.0-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2.34.0-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2.34.0-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I'm using "Ubuntu Classic" (gnome 2 with metacity window manager).

Steps to reproduce:
 1) Run Empathy
 2) Chat to somebody
 3) Right-click on their name in the contact list
 4) Choose "Previous Conversations"
 5) The window grows horizontally until it reaches the right edge of the
screen. Then it keeps growing until it reaches the left edge of the screen.
Then it keeps growing to the right again. It makes no difference if the window
is maximised or not. It still grows forever!

What I expected to happen:
The window should open at some size and it should stay that size.

Thanks.

[Bug 777853] Re: Bugs assigned to new targets are easily missed (their default values sort at the end of bug lists)

2011-05-09 Thread Robert Collins
I'm concerned that its a point-fix rather than digging at the heart of
the matter; there are multiple ways things (apport, direct filing, also-
affects) and all would seem to suffer from dropping-on-the-floor
problem.

I'm speculating here but perhaps an ajax also-affects that presented the
new values *to be created* during the process would help as much or
more, without running into the special casing issues we will with
copying the importance and/or status without a UI. (For instance, if you
have triage rights, but an existing task is new, what should we default
to? And if there are 2 existing tasks, which should we copy from? Should
we prefer same-package different series (of the new target) or same-
series different package (of the new target), and what if the existing
tasks are not visible, or same-package different distro? How wide should
the heuristic be?).

Or we could help more bugs get triaged, so that driving-to-zero becomes
a common default not something requiring special consideration.

Or ... this is why I'd like some more bandwidth with Kate to understand
the problem more.

On a purely minimal technical level, as long as we don't break folk in
different contexts doing their own triage, we can certainly tolerate the
directly proposed thing, but I *suspect* either of the other things I've
touched on would be higher leverage and address the problem.

[Bug 776978] Re: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty)

2011-05-09 Thread Marc Tommasi
Same problem on a DELL E4200.
I was also unable to switch on an external display of 1920x1200 (and switch off
laptop screeen). I finally succeed in removing monitors.xml in .config, and
restart xorg. I suspect the bug is more related to compiz than xorg.
(I've also try to add an output of correct resolution in the general setting of
compiz, tab display settings, ... not sure whether this has changed something)

Another clue. Hibernate does not cause this problem. However, if I
hibernate after suspending I consistently get the following error
messages:

uchi_hcd :00:1d.2 host controller halted, very bad!
uchi_hcd :00:1d:2 HC died; cleaning up

[Bug 779364] Re: Missing words (single and blocks) in firefox

2011-05-09 Thread lnxusr
I reported this on bugzilla.mozilla.org
(https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=655609) as well. A
comment there led to the problem. It seems if the 'Allow pages to
choose their own fonts,...' checkbox is unchecked in the Advanced Fonts
& Colors dialog, some text will not be displayed.

[Bug 779779] [NEW] Drag and drop to webview will freeze the desktop

2011-05-09 Thread Tualatrix Chou
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 with latest updates, the webkit may have some
problems.

The demo which works under Ubuntu 10.10 can't work under 11.04. Please
try this command:

 curl -O
https://github.com/tualatrix/tools/raw/master/examples/webkit/webkit-
demo.py && python webkit-demo.py

When the window is opened, try to drag any file into the webview, it
will freeze the desktop under 11.04.

I wrote another C demo, it behaved the same.
