[Bug 672911] [NEW] Installing Netbook Edition alongside Desktop Edition corrupts Gnome settings (incl. Gtk theme)
Public bug reported: I upgraded my system from Lucid to Maverick (originally installed as Karmic and upgraded to Lucid). The Gnome theming worked and my anti- aliasing settings were remembered. Then I followed the advice given in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity in order to test Unity. That is, I ran sudo apt-get install ubuntu-netbook and logged out, at which point my computer froze and I had to reboot it using the power button. I then logged into the Netbook Edition side. The window decorations looked right, but the theming within any app window was ugly. I tried switching themes in the Appearance control panel. The theme preview in that window worked right. However, after selecting a theme, only the window decorations were affected and anything drawn by the Gtk theme engine still looked like the mid 1990s- style Gtk built-in default theme. I logged out of Netbook Edition and into Desktop Edition. The problem persisted. I also noticed that other Gnome settings, such as the anti- aliasing setting had reverted to default. I removed the Netbook Edition and Unity and then ran Computer Janitor to get rid of the deps they had brought in. This didn't fix the problem. Restoring .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome2 and .gnome2_private from a backup fixed the problem. [Bug 569354] Re: Mouse and keyboard become unresponsive on Asus Eee PC 1005HA
I am experiencing the same behavior on my ASUS eeepc 904HA. If I don't use the touchpad everything works fine (I use an external USB mouse) If I use the touchpad the cursor starts to skip out of control, showing contextual menus, creating folders on the desktop and so on... sometimes a single keyboard key pressure produces many characters, like this (I'm not sure the two thinngs can be related, since the touchpad issue is nearly systematically reproducible, while the keyboard not) after that, the external usb mouse still continues to move properly, BUT for instance the cursor remains similar to a pipe (like when it's over a text field) even when I try to click on the window titlle bar, and you can't use the mouse anymore to change focus between windows... [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head
@Jeffery To: I don't know enough about X programming to fix the menu issue (and my limited knowledge suggests that it's not possible for an application like XCreateMouseVoid - it really does not receive events when other window does "active mouse grab"; one would have to use XTest, I imagine (and I remember seeing an app doing exactly this to "fix" the same issue that's being discussed here (but it was KDE-dependent, so I was too lazy to try it))). As for the 'mouse stuck at the edge' problem: try creating a largish void with the top-left corner far away in the negative coordinates; for best results - with the _center_ in the negative coordinates; i.e. if your invisible zone is from 0,0 to 1024,400 - do smth like XCreateMouseVoid -1100 -500 2124 900 That should make it impossible for the mouse to enter the zone where it's being "pushed away" from the screen (usuccessfully); just '-1 -1' isn't enough as the first event seen by XCreateMouseVoid may be well inside the window due to "mouse acceleration" and/or system load. -- Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373367 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have tried following various instructions online, but none of them have helped. It seems like rhythmbox damages the files while causing "error while saving song information". Mike could you change your input format from MJPG to YUYV. MJPG uses continuous fps, this is not very well supported in guvcview (in fact I think it's the first time I've seen it on a commercial webcam). YUYV uses discrete fps values and these have much better support. This will disable touchpad features like scrolling and tapping however the cursor will continue to work as a simple mouse and cursor will continue to move. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- Touchpad doesn't disable entirely in 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/564343 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 672953] [NEW] rsyslog stops writing to fifo on HUP
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rsyslog I've configured rsyslog to output everything to a fifo like this: *.* |/tmp/rsyslog-all.fifo This is in its own configuration file in addition to the default configuration. When logrotate sends the HUP signal to the rsyslog process, it stops writing to my fifo. I can also reproduce this by HUPing rsyslog myself. ** Affects: rsyslog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: rsyslog I've configured rsyslog to output everything to a fifo like this: *.* |/tmp/rsyslog-all.fifo This is in its own configuration file in addition to the default configuration. [Bug 672837] Re: Pulse plugin breaks media player sound after pause
Yeah, both vlc and mplayer have native pulseaudio plugins (simple choosing of alsa device too), but I rather mean software that just using alsa:default ( which is pulse by default), maybe oss. For now it's only flash, but there was some trouble guessing why sdl games make slideshow and configuring to use alsa dmix. ** Description changed: At least vlc and mplayer are affected; vlc become muted continuing playing video; mplayer's video freezes (not controls), only if play- pause period was short enough (about 1 sec). [Bug 211026] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Freeze when downloading from bittorent
I am unsure if this is still an open bug as the last post was a year ago, but I have recently moved from being a lifelong Windows user to Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. Using Utorrent with both Windows XP for years and more recently Windows 7 always occurred without incident. Following a severe number of full-blown laptop freezes (the same laptop as before mind) using Transmission 2.04 caused Google to lead me here. Is there been a fix found for this torrent freezing issue or is it something I am going to have to move back to Windows when I want to use? [Bug 672866] Re: crash on ctrl-left-arrow in Evince when filling a PDF form
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance. -- crash on ctrl-left-arrow in Evince when filling a PDF form https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/672866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 571822] Re: Empathy allign RTL text as LTR text on messenger
Well, Going by the GNOME logic (which I dislike .. sigh ( https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167354 )) .. the auto-detection should be just fine (option C). The grandmothers using Gnome should be smart enough to insert the Invisible Unicode LRM/RLM characters when auto-detection goes wrong (which happens very rarely I must admit ). I'm afraid the problem get even more complex since last time I checked, MSN didn't support RLM/LRM so well (this might have been changed by now) and in this case butterfly should remove the RLM/LRM marks and set MSN's RL flag accordingly. IMO, Support for Rich text solves the problem since you may specify both alignment and direction (note these are actually two different properties) for different parts of the text and let the protocol plugin do what it can to send it correctly. Maybe Behdad Esfahbod should be asked for his opinion on this. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #167354 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167354 -- Empathy allign RTL text as LTR text on messenger https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571822 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
