[Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function

2010-10-04 Thread Vish
With USA layout, I was able to do Alt+PrtSc in Lucid, and also Alt+SysRq+K
But same USA layout, in Maverick I can *not* do a Alt+PrtSc , but can
Alt+SysRq+K.
If i change the shortcut from Keyboard Shortcuts, i can not even again set it
to Alt+Print , but i can set to every other combo.

[Bug 654531] [NEW] "Install alongside" mode not showing all of the partitions

2010-10-04 Thread Jacopo Moronato
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10
Package: ubiquity
Versions: 2.4.5

I have this disk situation:

Disk /dev/sda: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf1f2f1f2

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 21672 174080308+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 21673 3040170115692+ 7 HPFS/NTFS

Disk /dev/sdb: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf239f239

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 30401 2441960017 HPFS/NTFS

So I'm trying to install Ubuntu (Maverick) in /dev/sda by reducing /dev/sda2
space (it has ~ 46 GB unused). Selecting "Install alongside..." shows me -> see
Screenshot-Install.png attachment
Note that sda1 it's not showed (and it has ~ 34 GB of unused space).
And why does it say there is a smaller hidden partition ?

[Bug 562370] Re: Upgrade from 2.2.14-5ubuntu6 to 2.2.14-5ubuntu7 results in syntax error, missing module

2010-10-04 Thread Thomas Dahlmann
Sorry, I just found out for my self after a reboot :(

It keeps the configuration files but removes symbolic links to modules
and configurationfiles.

I also had to battle with a new ports.conf file which got installed. It
added a Listen 443 statement that blocked the Apache server from
starting at all. But after commenting it out everything was back in
business.

[Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function

2010-10-04 Thread Kazade
It's always been the case, on both GNOME and Windows that ALT+PrtScrn
takes a screenshot of the active Window. This is a really bad regression
from a user experience POV, especially for non-technical users that take
screenshots of active windows to send when they have issues.

If we are now saying that ALT+PrntScrn *shouldn't* take a screenshot of
the active window then we should at least have an alternative key
binding sorted out and have it really well documented by release,
otherwise revert whatever change caused this until Natty.

[Bug 547147] Re: [drm:edid_is_valid] *ERROR* Raw EDID

2010-10-04 Thread mediterran81
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 575985 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575985

Same problem here!
That is the most hilarious bug ever in my life!
Such a frustrating thing for the sake of Linux!

I am running Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10, fedora 13 and Windows XP pro SP3 on a
Dell Inspiron 9400 linked to a Dell ST2310 External Monitor (through VGA
and DVI-D).

The DVI-D works fine in Windows XP.

I get the same error message upon booting : Raw edid - Edid checksum is
invalid, remainder is 130.

I have an Intel 945GM graphics card!

PS: I ll have to install Ubuntu 9.x and check if it is a matter of Intel
drivers or the kernel itself!

2010-10-04 Thread doom3d
I cannot save entries to database where the name or location contains
non-english characters like "éáűőúöüó".
It works propely with Paks city, and doesn't work with Szekszárd city, Mr.
Kovács, or Hajdú-Bihar county etc.
I don't know if it is related to the original bug, or to the bugfix described
above, or independent.

I did that, and it removed my warnings, but did not fix my program.
This is still an issue. the im-ibus.so should be getting included in
ia32-libs, as there now appears to be some dependency on it.

Also I just verified that this still exists running the latest ia32-libs

[Bug 654534] [NEW] Terms and conditions text should not be broken up for translation

2010-10-04 Thread David Planella
Public bug reported:

At the bottom of the SSO login dialog there is a message asking the user
if he/she accepts the Ubuntu One Terms and conditions.

It is composed of two translatable strings:

YES_TO_TC = _('I agree with the %(app_name)s ')  # Terms&Conditions button
TC = _('Terms & Conditions')

The string should not be split. This makes it impossible to provide a
good translation. In many languages the order needs to be rearranged to
make it grammatically correct.

A couple of examples:

In Catalan:

* Current translation (incorrect): "Estic d'acord amb Ubuntu One Condicions
generals"
* A correct translation: "Estic d'acord amd les condicions generals de l'Ubuntu
One"

In Spanish:

* Current translation (incorrect): "Estoy de acuerdo con Ubuntu One Términos y
condiciones"
* A correct translation: "Estoy de acuerdo con los términos y condiciones de
Ubuntu One"

For more info on tips for i18n development and suggestions, see [1].

Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

[Bug 515139] Re: Icons from gnome panel are missing at random on startup

2010-10-04 Thread wonkothesane
Using Ubuntu 10.04 I have the same problem. The suggestion from above
(CTRL+ALT+F1, than CTRL+ALT+F7) did not work for me.
As I found out the applets are there; e.g. right-clicking where an applet
should be shows its context menu, but their symbols are simply not shown. What
does help here is resizing the panel. But of course this is no sensible
solution and this bug it should be fixed.

This bug was fixed in the package choose-mirror - 2.33ubuntu2

---
choose-mirror (2.33ubuntu2) maverick; urgency=low

  * Fix mismerge of Ubuntu-specific change to skip mirror validation if the
base system is installable and we're installing from a mirror in the
masterlist. With the reorganisation of suite validation in 2.30,
exiting early meant that the proxy question never got asked. Instead,
modify get_release and check_arch to return early in this case, but
otherwise keep going (LP: #613550).

[Bug 555571] Re: Network Management disabled

2010-10-04 Thread Monika Eggers
@rmada: This is not a command, it is a file. You need to edit it with a
text editor with root authorizations. For example (assuming you have
KDE) run "kdesu kate" and enter your password. Then select File - Open
and open "/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state". Now you can
edit and save the file.

Marked this as not a duplicate of 524454, because there it is possible
to enable the network by clicking on the KNetworkManager icon and
enabling it. Seems to be a completely different issue (cause).

I had the same problem with Kubuntu 10.04 on my computer about a month ago
(August 2010). Today it happened with my husband's computer. It happened after
a reboot, not after suspend. Other than that It's exactly as described by
others above:
- Both wired networking and wireless networking do not work.
- When left-clicking or right-clicking on the KNetorkManager icon, it says in
gray "Netzwerkverwaltung deaktiviert" (which means network management disabled).
- There are no entries in that menu and no other point-and-click way to enable
networking.
- Restarting KNetworkManager does not help.
- Rebooting the computer does not help.
- In /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state NetworkingEnabled is set to
false.
- In the same file, WirelessEnabled is true, but WLAN does not work anyway.
- The workaround of editing /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state to
change to NetworkingEnabled=true and then running sudo service network-manager
restart works.

[Bug 510830] Re: [i845g] X11 locks up when enabling kwin compositing on 845G

2010-10-04 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm unassigning myself from this bug; I've got the needed feedback for
Maverick, and we've gone with the safe option of fbdev.

I'll leave this bug open; there's still a reasonable chance we can get a
proper fix, and apparently some i8xx documentation has just been
released.

Dear all,

Thanks for the bug-fix, I applied it, compiled the maverick kernel
myself, and was very happy to see my Samsung YP-CP3 working. Will this
bug-fix be included into the Ubuntu (maverick) kernel, it was not in
there.

[Bug 619841] Re: [REGRESSION] e1000e doesnt work on 2.6.35.

2010-10-04 Thread Albert Bicchi
I am also getting hit by this bug after upgrading to Maverick's RC:

lspci:
00:19.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation 82566DC Gigabit Network
Connection (rev 02)

Currently DHCP fails to get an IP and this NIC worked under lucid. I
have a feeling this is a show stopper as this NIC/module is very
popular.

In my case this kernel commit seems to provide the fix but I haven't tested it.

[Bug 78175] Re: gnome frontend not working without libtext-iconv-perl

2010-10-04 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
This debconf bug is reported about 4 years ago, maybe it's already fixed, is
libtext-iconv-perl still needed for Gnome frontend?
I can't test this, because I can't remove libtext-iconv-perl package from my
system (dictionaries-common depends on libtext-iconv-perl)
Btw, there is a pending bug #415038 about porting GNOME frontend to
GtkAssistant, maybe that bug is related to this bug?
