[Bug 583539] Re: Lucid freeze during large file transfer

2010-08-28 Thread fraseyboy
Another confirmation of the severity of this bug. It happens every time
I transfer a file which is over 500mb or so between hard-
drives/partitions. The system locks up and freezes periodically during
the transfer making it effectively unusable during this time.

I am on Ubuntu 10.04 with all updates applied on a Core 2 Duo E6300
system with 2GB of RAM.

[Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-28 Thread markling
I was unable to execute these commands.

The last generated an error:

couldn't find package linux-image-2.6.34-v9patch-generic

I tried the patch after being told that it might make it possible for me
to upgrade to Ubuntu v10. I'm still unable to upgrade to Ubuntu v10:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9774440#post9774440

The first command in your list is erroneous (apt-add). I'm sure this is
plain to see for most people, but it does not fill a feeble linux user
like myself with confidence.

[Bug 625692] [NEW] [Maverick] Unbelievably slow internet

2010-08-28 Thread Lollerke
Public bug reported:

I installed yestedays daily live and todays avahi updates, but everything is
slow. When I open up a web page in any browser it says: looking up ... waiting
for... and pages are still not fully loaded after 3 mins. Installing programs
with apt-get is 10mins because it takes 4min to start downloading, after that
the downloading speed is good. I guess it's a DNS resolving problem.
If I boot into 8.04.4 everything is fine and fast, so its 100% that this is a
Maverick problem.

[Bug 616601] Re: Amarok cannot edit the tags of some ogg vorbis files

2010-08-28 Thread dikkjo
Hello,

i would say that there is a general problems with tags, ogg but also mp3 files
are affected.
Im observing a strange behaviour, like if i edit tags with exfalso everything
seems ok, but in amarok i cant see the changes?? At the very best tags are just
greyed out. Maybe an update of libtag?

[Bug 344093] Re: SATA DVD drive not detected in Jaunty (testing)

2010-08-28 Thread Josh Schlenker
I'm having the identical problem with the lite-on blu-ray IOS104 blu-ray
drive on an ASUS M4N68T (nvidia mcp61 chipset) motherboard with fedora
12 (2.6.31.5).

I tried upgrading to 2.6.32.19 to take advantage of this patch, but this
*does not* fix the problem for me. I also tried to boot the maverick
alpha 3 live cd from this drive so I could try 2.6.35, but no luck there
either. After the initial bootup by the bios the drive is lost when the
kernel is loaded. Similar to what others have reported, I am able to
boot mandriva 2007.0 from the drive w/o problems.

I looked closer at the patch and it is only for mcp5x chipsets which
explains why this is still an issue for me on the latest kernels.

I was wondering if it would be possible to compile the version of
nv_sata used in mandriva 2007 with the kernel in fedora and boot with
this modified kernel whenever I needed to use the drive as a work around
until this gets fixed for my hardware. Would there be conflicts between
of an old nv_sata and a new kernel? I am a linux noobie and have never
tried compiling the kernel before, so I have no idea how feasible this
is or how to try it myself.

[Bug 621927] Re: Guake isnt giving a TERM variable

2010-08-28 Thread MrMacman2u
Having the same trouble here. Guake is a great time saver/convenience
and having to manually set the TERM after every reboot is rather
troublesome. Hope it's fixed soon, just shout if any additional
information is needed!

2010-08-28 Thread MrMacman2u
Yup, everything is golden!

gnome-power-manager is working AND gnome-power-backlight is behaving
normally!

Looks like whatever action has been taken has resolved this bug!

[Bug 565543] Re: Alps touchpad detected as ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse(in VAIO E series) after the kernel upgrade

2010-08-28 Thread Martin Thielen
Hi, just to eventually add something to solving the problem:

I just installed Kernel v2.6.35.4-maverick and now my touchpad is
recognized as touchpad again:

xinput says:

(2)]
⎜ ↳ ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=15 [slave pointer (2)]

where before it was just this generic ImPS/2 thing. I can now access
Gsynaptics and the touchpad-options under preferences->mouse (or at
least i think it is, i'm using the german version so the names may not
be correct).

(Downside is that the Fn-Buttons aren't working as smooth as before, but
that's not as important to me then having the touchpad work right)

[Bug 625703] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] White screen after login

2010-08-28 Thread YannUbuntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On Ubuntu 10.04, using Xorg-edgers PPA.

- yesterday with updated packages, my "Gnome" session was working well with
Compiz.
- today I updating my packages (including xorg-edgers's ones),
- after rebooting, my "Gnome" session leads me to a white screen where i can
see the mouse cursor, and Compiz seems to work (a Compiz workspace chooser
effect works, showing a small version of my 4 workspaces, but they are all
white)
- Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (that I had configured previously also) works and leads me
to GDM.

>From GDM I can connect without any problem to "Kubuntu", "Lubuntu" and
"Gnome failsafe" sessions.

So I guess this bug is related to a combinaison of Compiz + today's
XorgPPA update.

Please also note that for this bug report , I did "ubuntu-bug xorg" from a
"Gnome failsafe" session.

2010-08-28 Thread Lollerke
apport information

** Description changed:

I installed yestedays daily live and todays avahi updates, but everything is
slow. When I open up a web page in any browser it says: looking up ... waiting
for... and pages are still not fully loaded after 3 mins. Installing programs
with apt-get is 10mins because it takes 4min to start downloading, after that
the downloading speed is good. I guess it's a DNS resolving problem.
- If I boot into 8.04.4 everything is fine and fast, so its 100% that this is a
Maverick problem.

[Bug 625707] [NEW] (qiv:18951): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-08-28 Thread Zoubidoo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qiv

Viewing some images fullscreen causes the following terminal output:
"(qiv:18951): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead".

To reproduce: run qiv on a jpg image from a terminal and press "f" a few
times. Watch the terminal. (It doesn't work with all jpgs, try a few
different jpgs if necessary).

In .xsession-errors I'm getting:

Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0
timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed.
Window manager warning: Treating resize request of legacy application 0x4800040
(qiv: Deskt) as a fullscreen request

Could qiv be using deprecated library calls?

qiv 2.2.2-1, up to date Ubuntu 10.04 on 32 bit hardware.

Yes. I've just installed Lucid. When I try to stop gdm, I get a few
lines and below "checking battery state..." is a blinking cursor. I'm
trying to install a Nvidia driver for my GE Force 9800 GT (new). The
drive is brand new as well, a WD10EARS.

[Bug 625715] [NEW] Stock updates don't work for Yahoo UK

2010-08-28 Thread Jawnboy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmymoney2

Hi There,

When trying to pull price updates from Yahoo UK, I get 0 or an error
that the symbol doesn't exist. This is due to changes on the Yahoo UK
website a couple of years ago. It hasn't worked in kmymoney since then.
Someone has written a patch to resolve the issue and it has been
included in other distros so I was wondering if it's possible to get it
into Lucid? Here's the info on the patch, I don't think it has been
applied upstream yet:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2842587&group_id=4708&atid=304708

Thanks.

As Scott said, we need to file a new bug about this issue. I tried the
workaround given in this bug description and it worked, which meansthat
the problem is affecting Plymouth once again.

"OOo is not setting _NET_WM_STATE_FULLSCREEN so compiz is refusing to

[Bug 539426] Re: Rhythmbox cannot be quickly opened from Indicator Applet

2010-08-28 Thread Donjan Rodic
I agree with those who find the new status icon very annoying.
While the new behaviour may or may not (!) be intuitive for someone who has
never used a computer before, the old approach is clearly more intelligible
even to relative novices. Confirmed by my girlfriend, my sister and a bunch of
friends ;)

Here's my fix for 64bit systems:

Why did you change the status to "invalid"? Something in the kernel was
clearly changed to make the improvements noted, we just don't know what.

I downloaded Geode 2.11.9-1 but there are dependency issues with my
current 10.04 setup (xserver-xorg-video-geode-_2.11.9-1 needs xorg-
video-abi-8.0 which needs an updated xserver-xorg-core which needs an
updated xserver-common (no worries) and keyboard-configuration (which
conflicts with installed package 'console-setup'). I should be able
to test it when I upgrade to 10.10 though? :/

[Bug 625719] [NEW] RT kernel breaks plymouth (ubuntu 10.04LTS)

2010-08-28 Thread Trekkele
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

Installing the RT kernel (2.6.31-11-rt) under ubuntu 10.04 makes
plymouth totally instable and impredictable: sometimes it starts,
sometimes the screen just flickers some purple and then i see the login
screen.

nothing harmful so far, except for some unpleasant flickering.

[Bug 625239] Re: Pressing enter key kills X

2010-08-28 Thread Bilal Akhtar
I did an experiment. I renamed the plymouth-splash.conf file in the
/etc/init folder to *.disabled and then re-started without plymouth. It
worked!

This problem is affecting plymouth and not X.

** Also affects: plymouth (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- Pressing enter key kills X
+ Pressing Enter crashes both X and plymouth in graphical mode

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts
up, if I press the enter key (occurs only with the enter key) X shuts
down and starts again in around 2 seconds. In the session of X that
comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur.
+
+ UPDATE: Problem seems to be affecting plymouth and is a lot similar to
+ bug #532047, however in this case GRAPHICAL plugin is affected. The
+ workaround on that bug works, and pressing enter crashes both X and
+ Plymouth, forcing X to start on tty8 .

[Bug 597540] Re: Setting "No sound" in Sound Preferences does not disable GNOME Login Sound

2010-08-28 Thread YannUbuntu
Ok, I now understand how the "ding" and "african dums" sounds can
currently be enabled/disabled
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
media/+question/123085).

So I confirm my opinion : the user expects to find all sounds settings
in the "Sound Preferences", even the "ding" one. So no need to change
the current "Login screen" , but we should add in the "Sound
Preferences" a link or way to activate/disactivate the "ding" sound.

Technically, this could be integrated in the "Sound Preferences" (this
particular sound would require administrator password to enable/disable
it), OR this could also be a button opening the "Login screen" window (I
guess this would be very simple to implement).

[Bug 539426] Re: Rhythmbox cannot be quickly opened from Indicator Applet

2010-08-28 Thread Donjan Rodic
Maybe I should offer a rationale for wanting the old behaviour back:

All the icons in my gnome-panel behave like this: right click gives a context
menu, left click pops up a window or at least some kind of dialogue.
I remember that when a new IM client was introduced (Empathy in 9.10 i think?),
the single reason I switched back to Pidgin was that one couldn't easily fix
the IMO broken status icon handling.

Last time I looked, KDE panel icons as well as XFCE panel icons behaved
"correctly". When I happen to be on a Windows machine, the panel icons
also give a context menu on right click and a popup on left click (and
sometimes on double click). It can be considered standard behaviour.

IMO it's just intuitive once you've seen a few different UIs, and even more so
if you come from only Windows, previous GNOME or KDE.
Fast left click to open the application is like left licking on the window list
in the panel to bring something to the front. Crippling the latter
functionality by introducing a context menu (on left click) would be very
similar to what has been done to Rhythmbox' status icon.

[Bug 544496] Re: [RS100] desktop became slow after upgrading to Lucid

2010-08-28 Thread Matej Kenda
Thomas, remote watch bug
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26599 was closed as a
duplicate of http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28771.

I updated the remote watch to reflect that. Is that OK or should the
original be left there?

Unfortunately I created an unnecessary Debian remote watch that should
be removed.
