[Bug 576259] Re: gnome-session often doesn't start properly in 10.04
I still have the problem nowadays, so no update that have been released since did provide a fix. I have observed a few things though, it seems the the problem is not gnome-panel itself but the clock-applet. Sometimes the gnome-panel starts but I have a white rectangle at the place the clock-applet should be. When this happens, when I quit and login again into Xorg, I have the behavior described in this bug report which is no gnome-panel at all, like it is stalled by something. This something would be the clock-applet of course. When I look in the process tree with pstree I can see TWO clock-applet processes. My guess is the following : The clock-applet sometimes doesn't start correctly, crashes, and stalls the gnome-panel. If you try to restart your Xorg it makes things even worse making another clock-applet process. -- gnome-session often doesn't start properly in 10.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
How many people would set that? Each option doubles the number of code paths that need testing if we want to put out a quality result. If only 1% of people would set that option (and gconf options are used much less often than that) it's not worth it unless you are a maintainer of the code yourself and it matters to you. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg-server. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. [Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
Well I'm willing to bet that there were more people that thought this a feature than a bug but no polls were taken on it. I certainly don't see where the bug is here or even how this bug should have ever been taken seriously. Amazing. Where is the bug? I just deeply don't understand that, but I looked past it and asked for an option and was told it wasn't feasible. In this case, the argument for the option taking more extra work than necessary is a fallacy since the feature already existed without any issues. The additional work occurred when the feature I relied upon was deemed a bug. -- Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
There are at least as many people that think this fix is a bug itself: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-themes/+bug/564749 Let me express my logic here: 1. Button is too easy to hit. Ok, why is this a bug? The only possible reason I could think of is that it's too easy to hit and lose your data. So the question should be, why is it so easy to lose your data when you close an application? So the real but here should look like this: 1. Too easy to lose data when closing application. The solution for this is to make it so that applications PROTECT THE DATA BETTER. -- Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 609051] [NEW] Wireless Network is Disabled When Laptop is Restarted After Installing Ubuntu File Sharing Services and on another Desktop PC Shared folders are No More Shared after each Restart.
Public bug reported: Hi! I am Using Dell Inspiron 1564 Laptop Intel i3 CPU and with Broadcom 413 Series Wireless Network Card and 4GB DDR RAM. Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 installed via wubi inside windows7. After Enabling File Sharing Services on Ubuntu 10.04 My Wireless Network is Disabled and Does Not get back by any means although the driver remains active. Even I tried editing the Wifi Config File manually setting Wireless Network Present= False to the True Condition means Wireless Network Present = True still It didn't help. I used the manual editing of config file under instructions from another query at Ubuntu forums. (I am still a learner of Linux myself) 1-When I first faced this issue I was not sure why did it happen so I simply formatted and reinstalled the Ubuntu and error went off. My wireless network was now working fine till this afternoon. I did have a doubt on Samba services last time so This time I installed the file sharing services and even transferred a folder from my desktop with same OS to my laptop but then I restarted The laptop the Wireless Network Got Disabled and Could Not be Enabled by any Means Until I Removed all SAMBA Services / Packages from Ubuntu Software Center and restarted the Laptop. Now again Wireless network is enabled automatically and working. 2- Secondly In My Desktop When I share a folder from my desktop computer It works fine but after the restart the Shared folders are no more shared and I have to Share each folder again after every restart. The Desktop is An AMD Athlon X2 (64Bit) Dual core 2.1Ghz with Asus Motherboard of NV Series and Has 3GB DDR III RAM running in dual boot with windows XP SP3 but windows XP is on Separate Physical Hard Drive and I use F8 on Boot to Select which HDD to boot from. Re: [Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
Personally speaking, I cannot think of any application that will destroy data if you accidentally hit the close button. They will either prompt you whether you wish to save first (OpenOffice, Gimp, Gedit, Evolution, the scan app, ...) or they will be able to resume from where you left (Firefox, Chromium, ...) [Bug 605013] Re: [MIR] cloud-init (grub-legacy-ec2)
cloud-init the binary package is already in main. The "complicated" bit of this source package is in the binary cloud-init package. This main inclusion request is for "grub-legacy-ec2", which is a binary package put here for lack of any better place to put it. The code in grub-legacy-ec2 is copied from the grub source package. I chose to copy the existing "update-grub" grub rather than write new code to do something that was already being done elsewhere. The copy was needed (rather than just installation of 'grub') because: a.) i needed some ec2 specific changes b.) 'grub' conflicts with grub-pc (grub 2) which is needed in the uec images for other reasons. as far as modifying the strings "grub" to "grub-legacy-ec2", I just left that as it was in most places figuring it there was no benefit to changing it and would simply be changes I'd have to re-apply if I wanted to re-sync with the code from grub that was copied. -- [MIR] cloud-init (grub-legacy-ec2) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605013 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
I, as well as you, know that. . . so my question to the original submitter would be, what is the problem with easy to close? Another issue is, if not for close, what are the left most and top most sides and the corner for? Resizing? Well, that wouldn't b useful if the window is maximized, and even if it weren't, there are three other corners to grab. The new behavior makes it so, the corner where the close is, is an extra resizer. . . Why not just add another possible element to "close" "maximize" and "minimize" called "spacer". If somebody has such a big issue with accidentally closing their windows all the time, they can put a spacer in the corner instead of the "close". This is honestly ridiculous and regressive, when was it ever policy in an operating system to PURPOSELY make something harder to do? -- Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 592787] Re: Add some sort of hint that the Ubuntu circle is click-able
For 10.10, it *is* essential that the individual launchers can get a blue triangle when a window is calling for attention. It would be nice if the Ubuntu icon glow went blue as well whenever any of the launchers have the blue state, but it's not essential.
