[Bug 16492] Re: Mouse pointer should disappear when keyboard is in use and mouse isn't

2010-06-18 Thread David Balažic
Was that the timeout trigger?
I agree that it is "less intuitive".

Last time I tried unclutter, the trigger by keystroke did not work. That
way is more intuitive and already used by some code (parts). Like the
gnome terminal, and some (GTK+) text fields, IIRC.

[Bug 595844] [NEW] Installation fails with unpartitioned disk under VirtualBox

2010-06-18 Thread Michael Rasmussen
Public bug reported:

Installation of 10.04 fails in VirtualBox if disk is unpartitioned. The
result is that no partitions are created at all which causes grub-
install to fail.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Create a virtual machine in virtualbox
2) Attach ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso to CD
3) Boot virtual machine
4) Choose to install
5) Every configuration step proceeds without any errors but at the very last
part of installation grub-install fails since there are no partitions on disk
6) Choose proceed without running grub-install does not work either since there
are no partitions there is nothing saved to the disk.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

[Bug 595825] Re: Non-admin users can format removable media

2010-06-18 Thread David Clayton
Ok, my concept of security encompasses *all* the data that the user has
access to, whether connected via internal storage or external storage so
that is why I considered this a "Security Vulnerability", obviously that
is not the commonly accepted definition in this domain.

I sort of find it amusing that an External storage device may well have
various file system permission settings to prevent users from
writing/deleting data, but apparently it is accepted that they can still
format the entire device anyway...

Anyway, I created a new user with standard "Desktop User" privileges,
logged in as that user, inserted a USB drive and was able to format that
drive without any request for further authorisation.

I do not believe any formatting tools were available in previous Ubuntu
releases that did not require sudo authorisation to run, so that is why
I consider this new functionality to be a security issue.

I will investigate the Policykit option.

[Bug 595635] Re: Please merge mimms 3.2.1-1.2 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-06-18 Thread Daniel Holbach
Can you please forward all these changes to Debian?

A few notes:
 - changing the Standards-Version in Ubuntu makes no sense - it's a string
change that has no effect and needs to be merged manually.
 - ${misc:Depends} is nice to have, but not super-important, should go to
Debian (and it should be in the Depends line, not in the XB-Python-Version line
 - I don't think that python-dev is necessary, but the recent change in Debian
to python-all should be good.

Maybe a sync is more appropriate.

[Bug 591656] Re: scrolling issues using touchpad

2010-06-18 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I found that this bug had already been reported upstream:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23890. You may register at
http://bugs.freedesktop.org and add yourself to the CC-field of that bug
report in order to receive updates. It seems they have already figured
out what we have figured out here, but I'll link to the attachments here
anyway.

The one think I can think about that may accelerate a solution is to
git-bisect between 1.1.2 and 1.2.2 to find the commit that introduced
this problem. Before that it may be worth reverting the ubuntu-sepcific
patches to see if any of those cases the problem.

[Bug 582342] Re: [SRU] Please upgrade Lucid gramps from 3.2.0 to 3.2.3

2010-06-18 Thread Martin Pitt
I rejected the 3.2.3-1ubuntu1 upload, since it has a version number
higher than maverick. It should be called 3.2.3-1~lucid instead, since
it's a backport.

Also, the diff is huge, and thus it's not quite obvious that it doesn't
have regressions. If you want to go through with this, this requires
some serious testing and checking for regressions on already installed
gramps systems, i. e. it'll take a long time until lucid-updates,. You
might consider backporting the two individual fixes for the other two
bugs if this is urgent. But if you want to have 3.2.3, I didn't see
changes which were entirely unreasonable for an SRU.

[Bug 595845] [NEW] During "Building data structures" when starting the update-manager Xorg takes up 100% cpu

2010-06-18 Thread Ubeer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

apt-cache policy update-manager:

  Version table:

When I open up the update manager it reads the package lists, does
something else and then goes into "Building data structures" and at that
point Xorg start to take up 100% of my CPU and everything crawls to a
halt. This can run for a minute or two and then it's ready and shows the
updates that are available.

I have the xorg-edgers ppa enabled. Later today I'll try without the ppa
and see if the problem still exists.

[Bug 595846] [NEW] Anova Impossible with Rcmdr launch via "Sciences" shortcut

When you launch Rcmdr 1.5-4-1ubuntu0.1 under Lucid lynx (64 bits) using

[Bug 595845] Re: During "Building data structures" when starting the update-manager Xorg takes up 100% cpu

2010-06-18 Thread Ubeer
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: update-manager

  Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
  Release: 10.10

  apt-cache policy update-manager:
- Installed: 1:0.142.1
- Candidate: 1:0.142.1
- Version table:

+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I open up the update manager it reads the package lists, does
something else and then goes into "Building data structures" and at that
point Xorg start to take up 100% of my CPU and everything crawls to a
halt. This can run for a minute or two and then it's ready and shows the
  updates that are available.

I have the xorg-edgers ppa enabled. Later today I'll try without the ppa
and see if the problem still exists.
+
+ Update: I purged the xorg-edgers and the problem is not there anymore.
+ Although there is still a spike in the Xorg 'computation' when it's
+ building the data structures.
