[Bug 584074] Re: The dialog to to select partition mount point should automatically select the current partition type

2010-05-22 Thread kitts
I went through the installation process again and realized that the
reason for my error was not correctly described above. Let me explain
here.

By default, the ui for partition edit dialog (as defined by the file
gui/qt/partition_edit_dialog.ui) has the combo box for "use as" set to
"do not use this partition". This is fine however, it is the format
check box that is not behaving right. This is how i think the check box
state should be defined:

1) unchecked and disabled when the combo box is set to "do not use this
partition"
2) checked and disabled when the combo box is set to any fs type other than the
one that it is already formatted as. An addition qlabel below the checkbox
should inform the user that the format is required in order to change the fs
type.
3) unchecked and enabled when the combo box is set to a fs which matches the fs
type currently on the partition.

I looked at the code to to make these changes but unfortunately the code
is in python that i do not understand very well. I could have helped
with c++.

[Bug 27441] Re: Prevent extended periods of thrashing

2010-05-22 Thread jk
This happens to me quite frequently. When it does, it starts in the
morning at about 7 am, and I have no idea at all what's causing it. I
don't have any cronjobs scheduled for that time. It started years ago,
some time after I switched to using hard disk encryption. I've never
seen the problem before that.

Load goes up to 4 or 5, but when checking with "top", there is not one
single process in the list which uses more than a few percent of CPU
time. Most of the times "top" itself is the biggest CPU user. There has
never been anything remotely interesting in the log files.

The effects are like those of a fork bomb: In the beginning I can still
issue some commands, but pretty soon the machine becomes completely
unresponsive. It keeps answering to pings and all the routing seems to
work, but I don't even get to SSH login any more.

Sometimes the machine recovers after 30-60 minutes. When I need to use
it, I have to power it off with the power switch. Any way, afterwards it
works normally again, with no trace left of what had just happened.

This phenomenon has persisted through several reinstalls of the OS, so
I'm pretty sure it's not due to some rootkit infection. Also doesn't
seem directly related to any HDD, since this has happened with various
system drives I've had over the years.

I found a workaround. Before installing the VMware-Tools I rename

uses update-rc.d as a fallback. After the installation I rename

[Bug 568988] Re: [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop.

2010-05-22 Thread Alf Gaida
@44 and @all
I don't think I'm too unkind in the end. IMHO it is a real advantage for me to
know what I am doing. Mostly I reach this goal reading the whole stuff. In
this special case I would read the comments on bug 351186 #126 #127 #128 #174
#218 #219 about no-backfill.

The no-backclear is described at #228 #234 #256 . The advantage of no
backclear and the ppa for karmic your can find here. (#291..#296).

My intention for an own ppa is described at its best at #264 and by
myself at #413 #414 #421 #436.

You will see it's all in the records...

@Daniel: It was no offense writing that you are not forced to use fglrx and no
backfill. You and anyone can give the free driver a chance. I did this
yesterday with a brand new X 1.8 directly from the latest sources and the
latest xf86-video-ati, ati-dri, mesa and so on directly from the git. Then I
built Compiz 0.86somewhat from the git and it works mostly. Disadvantages are:
No powermanagement, my 4890 runs at full speed all the time (over 90 Watts more
power consumption), several bugs in Compiz effects (finally get a kernel
panic), bugs with glx (best shown with glxgears), memory leaks within compiz.
Some strange behaviour with false rendering..). I have checked this out with
arch and a 2.6.34 patched kernel (new scheduling, powermanagement and so on)
just for fun.
I found out by and for myself that the most errors are related primarily to
compiz, second in Xorg and the minor part in Catalyst. I've choosen arch,
because I'm familiar with arch and I figured out that it has nothing to do with
Ubuntu. Today I'll change back to Catalyst and will build a new version of the
ppa.

It doesn't seem so, because your latex format only has those langugeag

 %&-line parsing enabled.

Do you have by chance

Can you run the test file with

and send the file test.fls ???

[Bug 580394] Re: calc - insert - link to external data does not import correctly

2010-05-22 Thread bt
Adding two .ods files:

- bugged-result-with-ooo-3.2.ods -> the import done under ooo 3.2 (as I
tried to explain in the description). This is the bugged output, with
cells A13 and A14 being empty

- expected-result-as-with-ooo-3.1.ods -> The result of the same import
as it was under ooo 3.0 and 3.1. This is also the result obtained by
selecting the equivalent zones on the web page and pasting them on the
sheet.

I hope this clarifies, let me know if I can help more.

Bruno

Removing the ~/.openoffice.org* directories didn't help.

No other application crashes regularly, including other full-screen

The odd thing with this crash is that if you save, then navigate to a

[Bug 515874] Re: Missing analog output with M-audio audiophile 2496 (ICE1712)

2010-05-22 Thread Mikko Eley
I can confirm that the analogue output does not appear in sound
preferences unless I use the fix above. But there are no analogue inputs
listed either. I'm running Lucid and using a M-Audio 24/96 Audiophile
card. With the fix listed added to the ice1712.conf file I can get
juddering white noise but that may be me setting up the card wrong in
Envy24 control panel and may be another problem.

Whatever my sound problems the sound preference definitely does not see
all the options of the 24/96 card even with this fix. My struggle with
getting it to work continue.

[Bug 522580] Re: Openoffice (w Sun Presenter Console) plays video only on LCD screen but not on external projector

2010-05-22 Thread briga
Well I don't know because it's a different version of OO I am running
now on Lucid (3.2)

I do have come across another bug which is very weird I will report it
here if someone's care about it, because in a way it is related (and
because I do have the impression that Impress bugs are not so important
to the community that I wonder if it's worth reporting them and how many
people makes presentation for work with Impress like me).

If you use the oracle presenter console with the two slides mode it
works nice but if you switch with the view including notes then when you
play a video the audio is not playing well (kind of a echo). Very weird.

[Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login

2010-05-22 Thread Elvin Santos
LinuxMint 9 user here, I found in one of the threads under Ubuntu forum
about this code you have to type in the terminal:

gconftool -s /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled -t
boolean true

after tying this in the terminal, my touchpad is alive! not sure if it
will comeback after I restart though...

Note: It started when I connected my usb wireless mouse...

[Bug 584125] [NEW] Sync dogtail 0.6.1-3.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-05-22 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Please sync dogtail 0.6.1-3.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
* /usr/bin/sniff is no longer provided by ksniff so the rename can be dropped.
* Calling dh_icons is no longer necessary.

Changelog entries since current maverick version 0.6.1-3ubuntu3:

dogtail (0.6.1-3.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix "[DoS] use of /tmp/dogtail prevents use by multiple users"

[Bug 579158] Re: nothing happens when i click on the ubuntu one icon from the menu or the me menu

2010-05-22 Thread Mitch Towner
Hi kps, I am glad the work-around has resolved your issue with gnome-
keyring. I believe that you *may* be receiving the dialogue asking to
unlock your keyring due to applying this workaround.

One way to overcome this issue is to reset your gnome keyring password
by following the steps outlined at
https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/97580. When prompted
to enter a new password, change it to be the same as your login password
or leave it blank & click on the "OK" button.

[Bug 583802] Re: Cheese does not record videos in Lucid

2010-05-22 Thread Vish
Thats weird.
- Did you try to start cheese normally, from the applications menu [hopefully
it didnt have the same problem] and re-try to do the debugging again?
- How did the photos turn out?
- You mention that the problem starts only after you try to record videos [no
problems with pictures? ] and
- Do you notice any problems in the image ,When testing the webcam using the
command
 gstreamer-properties

[Bug 584122] Re: During upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 it was appearing that both xfonts-75dpi and 100dpi packages cannot intsall and also it does repeat when continuing upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04

2010-05-22 Thread Aidamir Lovpache
During upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 I had got my system unusable, my USB
keyboard and mouse was down. I think this was happen because I was
running some programs during upgrade. So I did reboot to recovery mode
and continue with apt-get --confugire -a. And after that I did run apt-
get upgrade and had received errors described above.

Thanks

[Bug 580394] Re: calc - insert - link to external data does not import correctly

2010-05-22 Thread bt
zipped attachment containing:
- test2.html : the source web file that I modified to verify my hypothesis
(explanations below)
- test-import2.ods : the result (bugged) of the import, which shows that
hypothesis is valid.

Explanations:
The 2 imports I am doing are 2 tables from the html file (let's name them
"Table-1" and "Table-2")
Table-1 and Table-2 are 1 column tables.
They are both contained in another table ("Table-3"): a 1 row - 2 columns
table, Table-1 being in the left cell of Table-3 and Table-2 being in the right
cell of Table-3
Drawing:

Table-3
+--+--+
| Table-1 | Table-2 |
| +--+ | +--+ |
| +--+ | +--+ |
| +--+ | +--+ |
| +--+ |  |
| +--+ |  |
| +--+ |  |
| +--+ |  |
+--+--+

In the attached version I changed the number of rows of Table-2
You can see in the 1st attachments (bugged-result-with-ooo-3.2.ods) as well as
in test-import2.ods that there are 2 empty cells in the A column, the 1st
always correspond to the 1st empty cell of C column (that is right after the
last element of Table-2 in the html table.

I hope my explanations are clearer... If not don't hesitate to contact me, I
can try to explain throught instant messaging tools for instance.
Regards

[Bug 564850] Re: drivel crashed with SIGFPE in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__BOXED()

2010-05-22 Thread Neil Williams
Lots of irrelevant content, one incomplete stracktrace that only puts the blame
on libsoup2.4 or some server response chunk. Once again, no effort to get this
reported upstream where I might actually be able to do something with it, not
even a Debian bug report or a notification to me that the bug even existed.
As it's described as Blogger 1.0, I can only assume this is a useless duplicate
of an old upstream bug which IS fixed in 3.0.1-1. Closing.

try telling my father that he has to do CTRL+ALT+DELETE in order to shut
down his computer. I'm sure he's going to take out the power line and wait
until the battery drop all his charge, if it happens to him.

seriously Rex, a non-techie user can't know the CTRL-ALT-DEL combination.
not all ubuntu users come from Windows, my father doesn't.

[Bug 411229] Re: f-spot import folder structure wrong time zone

2010-05-22 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- Closing papercut since Shotwell will be the default application in Maverick
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the
papercuts project.

2010-05-22 Thread Christoph Egger
Public bug reported:

Please sync python-django 1.2-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Ubuntu diff has been merged upstream and is incuded in the new release

Changelog entries since current maverick version 1.1.1-2ubuntu1:

python-django (1.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream stable release.

 -- Chris Lamb   Fri, 21 May 2010 07:52:55 +0100

python-django (1.2~rc1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release candidate.
  * Remove "02-embedded_code_copies.diff" - not needed anymore.
  * Refresh "01_disable_url_verify_regression_tests.diff".
  * Refresh "04_hyphen-manpage.diff".
  * Temporarily disable test runner due to failing date-related tests.

 -- Chris Lamb   Thu, 06 May 2010 10:25:10 +0100

python-django (1.2~beta1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream development release.
  * Switch to dpkg-source 3.0 (quilt) format
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4.
  * Remove "0.96 -> 1.x" NEWS entry.
  * jQuery added to admin system upstream:
- Add libjs-jquery to python-django's Recommends
- Use symlinks so we use the version from libjs-query over an embedded code
  copy.

 -- Chris Lamb   Tue, 09 Feb 2010 13:47:34 +

python-django (1.2~alpha1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream development release:

 This is the first in a series of preview/development releases leading up
 to the eventual release of Django 1.2, currently scheduled to take place
 in March 2010.

  * Update "01_disable_url_verify_regression_tests.diff" - tests now use the
unittest module instead of doctests.
  * Update "02-embedded_code_copies.diff".
  * Remove "05_ftbfs_in_november.diff" - applied upstream.
  * Remove "06_python_2.6.3_regression.diff" - applied upstream.
  * Update dh_auto_test - database engine is set differently in 1.2.
  * Remove useless ._DS_Store files.

[Bug 518818] Re: ath9k driver not working properly with AR9285

I can confirm major packet loss while running 2.6.34, with and without
wireless-testing from linville's repository on git.kernel.org.  It's
even worse on 2.6.34; loading web pages works momentarily after
associating with an access point, then it stops entirely until you
reassociate using network manager.

[Bug 583802] Re: Cheese does not record videos in Lucid

2010-05-22 Thread produnis
@Vish: The photos are good, no problems.

I only have the problem when trying to record a video, that's right

I followed your advise to start cheese from the application bar, and
after that I tried the debug-command again. This time, it worked, so
find attached my new log-message.

Running the comand gstreamer-properties, everything seems to be fine...

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-05-22 Thread Bruno Girin
@ralemi: it can have a number of effects as it can disable any indicator in the
top panel. In no particular order, I've occasionally been unable to:
- connect to a wireless network (no wireless indicator and no alternative way
to do this)
- open Evolution, Gwibber or Empathy via the indicator (granted, you can go
through the applications menu but when you are so used to using the indicator
you sometimes forget)
- log out (the CTRL-ATL_DEL method doesn't offer a logout option, only
shutdown, restart, suspend and hibernate)
- open Rhythmbox: as Rhythmbox automatically minimises to the notification tray
on start up, if the notification icon doesn't show up, you have no way to open
the main window

Considering the number of users affected and how heavily Ubuntu is
pushing application indicators (you'll have even more of them in
Maverick), I think the importance of this bug should be medium at least.
