*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 464552 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464552 Hi Robert, The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a 5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Based on your dmesg output I see PM: resume devices took 2.480 seconds. A patch to prevent this warning has been applied via bug 464552. As a result I'm marking this as a duplicate to bug 464552. Please continue to track this issue at that report. Thanks! [Bug 535572] Re: System hard locks with 2.6.33 mainline
Well, the machine now seems to run a little longer than before, but one update and a reboot later I got the hard lock back again. Even with C&Q disabled and with a "fix" for the big time lags ("acpi_skip_timer_override" for the linux boot). This time it locked up within minutes while working at it. [Bug 382045] Re: Intermittent printing problem - device comm. error
As far as my end user experience relative to this problem, little has changed. As you might expect, I have upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-20-generic), hplip 3.9.8, cups 1.4.1. Until your comment on 2010-03-13, I had been printing without problems using the solution I described on 2009-09-08. Tonight I gave hplip and cups another try largely without success. It was back to the stalled print jobs, losing the printer in lsusb and having to power cycle the printer. As you can see from the hp-check log, I have two cups printer queues with different URI protocols. The first one works, the second does not I'd like to be using hplip but gave that up when I changed the URI to usb://... I wasn't able to resolve the pyqt4 or cupsddk-drivers issues... ** Attachment added: "hp-check398.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/41205048/hp-check398.log -- Intermittent printing problem - device comm. error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/382045 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 506620] Re: UMTS connection needs rebooting to work
Finally, I got the desktop live CD. I made 10 reboots using Lucid and 9 times out of 10 the modem was correctly connected to ttyUSB0. Once the modem was not detected at all but it was never connected to ttyUSB2. I made only ten reboots but with the Ubuntu versions I've been using during the last two years the modem was connected to ttyUSB2 more than 50% of times, so as far as I can see my problem should be solved with Lucid. Thanks a lot. [Bug 344252] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling defaults to "Performance" instead of "OnDemand"
For comment #27, #28 - I have an Optiplex GX270 and a laptop which can't be set to ondemand or conservative. It seems to be a problem with any computers I have which use p4_clockmod - try: $lsmod | grep p4_clockmod The only workaround I've found is to install and start powernowd with the system, and set the governor to userspace. This is set in arch in the /etc/conf/cpufreq.conf file (sorry, don't have the details for Ubuntu). I think you could put "cpufreq-selector -g userspace" in /etc/rc.local or a runlevel script in ubuntu. -- CPU Frequency Scaling defaults to "Performance" instead of "OnDemand" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/344252 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

LANG and LANGUAGE don't have the same format. Look at the following examples: LANG=en_NZ.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_NZ:en_AU:en_GB:en -> Order of preference for translations: 1. English (New Zealand) 2. English (Australia) 3. English (UK) 4. any English string Depending on the availability of the translations for the different English flavors, one of them gets picked and displayed to the user. LANG=fy_NL.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=fy_NL:fy:nl_NL:nl:en_GB:en -> Order of preference for translations: 1. Frisian (Netherlands) 2. any Frisian (there is also fy_DE) 3. Dutch (Netherlands) 4. any Dutch (there is also nl_BE) 5. English (UK) 6. any English LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=pt_BR:pt:pt_PT -> Order of preference for translations: 1. Brazilian Portuguese 2. any Portuguese 3. Portuguese (Portugal) BTW: pt_PT has the ordering the other way round: pt_PT:pt:pt_BR LANG=sv_SE.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_US:en -> The user is living in Sweden and wants to have local currency and paper formats, but prefers his desktop to be displayed in English (US), with fall back to any English. [Bug 525049] Re: 3G download speed is very slow compared to Hardy on elderly PIII computers or Microsoft Windows OSs
Typing error at comment #4: > 80–90 kB/s maybe, but the speed was interestingly widely fluctuating between > 54–110 kB/sec (seen in Firefox > Download window) and 34–129 KiB/s (seen in System Monitor). During my second > download test the > fluctuation was not so strong any more, resulting in about 70 kB/s on the > average. I forgot to mention here, that the fluctuation was observed using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) Alpha 3 live-CD. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: ppp A mobile broadband download is very slow (only 10–20 % of what it is - supposed to be) in Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid-alpha2 (and also in Hardy - used in more modern computers, ie. P4->) 0.4–0.6 Mb/s, when the + supposed to be) in Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid Lynx Alpha 3 (and also in + Hardy used in more modern computers, ie. P4->) 0.4–0.6 Mb/s, when the theoretical max. speed of the affected ISP's plan is 3.6 Mb/s (in practise the speed is about 3 Mb/s in Windows Vista). To reproduce: Download an Ubuntu iso-image from a nearest mirror. In Hardy used with elderly PIII laptop (see Comment #2 for lshw) download speed is 250–300 kB/s, which is a good five times faster than in Jaunty (about 60 kB/s). This is a regression and performance issue related to download speed, which is at worst ten times slower on average compared to Windows OS's (40 kB/s vs. 400 kB/s). The extremely slow speed seems to be USB/3G modem independent (tested in Nokia CS-15, Huawei e1552, Huawei E230, Nokia cell phone 6220 classic, ...). Currently there is a Finnish discussions going on at http://forum.ubuntu-fi.org/index.php?topic=31241.msg244415#msg244415 http://forum.ubuntu-fi.org/index.php?topic=31241.msg244345#msg244345 Karmic: http://forum.ubuntu-fi.org/index.php?topic=29763.msg243897#msg243897 Interesting is that, when you download for example four Ubuntu distros in the same time, your download speed is approximately: 60 kB/s + 60 kB/s + 60 kB/s + 60 kB/s = 240 kB/s. When you cancel three of those downloads, you will continue with the "normal" Jaunty download speed that is surprisingly 60 kB/s. Some other day the individual download speed could be only about 40 kB/s. On the other hand, torrent download (several seeders) is quite fast: about 300 kB/s. Tested both near the capital city centre of Helsinki and also at the very edge of the 3G field at countryside. There is no diffenrence between locations. Tested with: NetworkManager and Wvdial (and by other people with umtsmon and vodavone-mobile-connect). No difference. Most probably these speed / network bandwidth issues are related only to one internet service provider called Sonera (TeliaSonera) in Finland. Nevertheless, last autumn the "HelpDesk" at Sonera did not comment this issue. - ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/sbin/pppd Package: ppp 2.4.5~git20081126t100229-0ubuntu2 ProcAttrCurrent: unconfined ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) SourcePackage: ppp Uname: Linux 2.6.28-18-generic i686 -- 3G download speed is very slow compared to Hardy on elderly PIII computers or Microsoft Windows OSs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 540747] [NEW] Apache Web DAV incorrect permissions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apache2 I am a Git pull/push through Apache https user, and I also use the file- based protocol. Recently I noticed that the Git repository was filled with objects of permission -rw-- belonging to www-data, the Apache server username. After further digging, this is not Git's problem, but possibly mod_dav_fs's. In fact, any file transferred with a DAV "PUT" command results in said 0600 permissions. Although this is arguably a feature of Ubuntu, I found that the behavior differs from a standard Apache server. To reproduce: 1) Download the original archive from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/apache2/apache2_2.2.14.orig.tar.gz and build with "./configure --enable-dav-fs=shared --enable-dav-lock=shared --enable-dav=shared". This should result in a mod_dav_fs.so library in modules/dav/fs/.libs. Place such a shared library in /usr/lib/apache/modules as a replacement for the one already there. 2) Set up a DAV location like so: DAV on 3) Use "cadaver" to connect to your server and PUT a file in location "test". The idea is that the permissions come out as 0600 for the standard Lucid installation and 0644 for the vanilla Apache module. Further evidence supporting the idea that the problem arises from Ubuntu packaging is the rather extensive modifications to mod_dav_fs code in the diff found at http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/apache2/apache2_2.2.14-5ubuntu3.diff.gz.
