[Bug 513666] Re: screen not locked on suspend or hibernate (screen saver not activated)
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace KDE 4.3.95, Lucid Lynx Alpha 2+. I find that KDE on Ubuntu will not lock the screen when I suspend to RAM or hibernate to disk, if I initiate the action from within KDE. However, if I press my laptop's Fn-key suspend-to-RAM combination, the screen saver is activated and the screen is locked upon resume, just as it should be. In the latter case, just before the machine is suspended, I get a reassuring notification about the screen saver being activated. In the former case, that notification is missing. I have tried the same version of KDE on openSUSE 11.2, and there the screen saver is activated properly. My login manager is KDM. How to reproduce: 1) Press Ctrl+Alt+Del. 2) Select "Suspend to RAM" from the "Turn off Computer" submenu. (Just before the machine goes to sleep there should be a notification about the screen saver being activated.) 3) Wake up the machine after it has been suspended. Expected behavior: The screen saver should be running. A password prompt protects against unauthorized access. Actual behavior: The screen saver is not running. There is no password prompt. No, I first installed phpmyadmin. During the process I got the error. Then I installed MySQL 5.1 server. Aftert that phpmyadmin was functioning correctly. In my opinion it is part of the bug that phpmyadmin installation does not check if MySQL server is running or not, but drops an error directly. ** Changed in: phpmyadmin (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- package phpmyadmin 4:3.2.2.1-1 failed to install/upgrade: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537665 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 539384] Re: Ensure name "simple scan" is not translated in French
I think gcalctool is a counter productive example. Do no using the real name carry over later communication problems. So current problem bypass simple-scan case. The lack of rules is the fundamental problem. - Authors should be encourage to don't use name that exclude other softwares. "Simple scan" is a wrong name. None other can be simple? Other should be complex? Author shouldn't be worry or afraid to personalize the name of their software. We all communicate using name and surname. - In accordance, It will be better to use 2 terms inside the menu : + Calculator Gcalctool + Scan Flegita + Scan Gscan2pdf + Text Abiword => Please stop to use "tools", "manager" and other empty terms. Especially because menu become complex and because they apply to everything without carrying a particular sense. - The significant word appears delayed into the sequence of words rather than at first. - The alphabetical ordering doesn't work and you have to search sometimes e.g. "scan", "tool", "flegita"... at start or at the end of the menu. (admin or preference menus illustrate these limits). Why not "Numérisation Simple Scan" -- Ensure name "simple scan" is not translated in French https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539384 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, thanks for reporting this bug trying to make Ubuntu better If you are referring to the "Svn" vs. "svn" vs. "SVN", it is not an Italian translation related issue. [Bug 507618] Re: xserver-xorg-video-radeon has insufficient (even missing) dependency on libdrm-radeon1
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati During a partial upgrade from karmic to lucid, I wanted to restart X after updating the X packages but it didn't come back. Looking at the gdm log the error could be found pretty fast: /usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so: undefined symbol: radeon_cs_create At this point xserver-xorg-video-radeon was already updated to 1:6.12.99+git20091125.0061c4db-0ubuntu2 (lucid) while libdrm-radeon1 was still at 2.4.14-1ubuntu1 (karmic). Updating libdrm-radeon1 to 2.4.17-0ubuntu1 (lucid) fixed it and my X started again. I looked then at the dependencies of xserver-xorg-video-radeon I saw that it's missing a dependency on libdrm-radeon1 at all: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libpciaccess0, xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.6.99.900) Looking further at the needed libraries of /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so: $ objdump -x /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so | grep NEEDED NEEDED libpixman-1.so.0 NEEDED libdrm_radeon.so.1 NEEDED libdrm.so.2 NEEDED libpciaccess.so.0 NEEDED libc.so.6 other needed libraries are missing in Depends too. While at least libpixman-1-0 and libdrm2 are pulled in through xserver-xorg-core depending on them (still are direct dependency would be better than a indirect one), libdrm-radeon1 is only pulled in through a recommendation: $ aptitude why xserver-xorg-video-radeon libdrm-radeon1 i xserver-xorg-video-radeon Dependsxserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.6.99.900) i A xserver-xorg-core Recommends libgl1-mesa-dri (>= 7.1~rc1) i libgl1-mesa-dri Dependslibdrm-radeon1 (>= 2.4.12) But this doesn't assure that libdrm-radeon1 is installed at all and even in the correct version needed by xserver-xorg-video-radeon. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 RAM memory [0500]: nVidia Corporation MCP65 Memory Controller [10de:0444] (rev a3) + Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Device [1458:5001] + 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RV670PRO [Radeon HD 3850] [1002:9505] + Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 298139] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in spectre_gs_send_page()
Hi there. I've been bitten by this one for almost a year and I just took some time to discover what the hell was happening here. After bisecting here the git tree from upstream, I noticed an error: the commit 52fa52f93943a6154cf2ac9b473d6b4948d75a15 changes a cast from an unsigned long long int to a uintptr_t. This may have worked on some architectures, but it surely doesn't work on some 32-bit arches. In particular, on PowerPC, this leads to very bad results: #include int main(void) { printf("%llu\n", (unsigned long int) 42); printf("%llu\n", (unsigned long long int) 42); return 0; } produces here: 183609205424 42 The problem with the code is in libspectre/spectre-device.c, around line 240. Reverting the commit 52fa52f93943a6154cf2ac9b473d6b4948d75a15 fixes this here and makes everything work fine. I can confirm that the file that the original poster posted here works fine now. BTW, just for the record, here are the sizes, in bytes, of the integral and pointer types in the 32 and 64-bit archictectures under Linux: | | 32 bits arch | 64 bits arch | | int |4 |4 | | long |4 |8 | | long long |8 |8 | | pointer |4 |8 | | short |2 |2 | Sorry if this shows up messed up, but seeing with a fixed-width font makes things nicer---otherwise, see http://wiki.debian.org/ArchitectureSpecificsMemo. In summary, we need the field to always be 8-bytes long and simply using a (unsigned) long is enough for, say, amd64, but not for powerpc. We really want a type that is 8-bytes wide in both arches and this should be a long long. Otherwise, the instruction to use a format string of llu (or llx, for that matter) on a printf-like function makes the function read information that is not part of the integral argument being passed. Can't collect any information due to bug #516381 in apport-collect. The instructions are now wrong. apport-collect doesn't take a '-p' argument any more. [Bug 540082] [NEW] laptop display don't work when lid closed at startup
Public bug reported: I'm using HP pavilion dv6835nr laptop. I used ubuntu 9.10 and everything worked perfectly ( I was able to power on with lid closed, and when I opened it my display was working). Now at ubuntu 10.4 it does turn on and respond to every comand, but my display is not working after opening lid (I can go to console by ctrl+alt+f1 and login and restart or type any command, but don't see anything) Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch) Release:10.04 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- laptop display don't work when lid closed at startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540082 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 430870] Re: Abiword crashes when opening a file (Karmic, i686).
In my opinion, a fix for next Ubuntu release is not enough : - this is a major bug for Abiword which is unusable for existing document on Karmic Koala. - Abiword can not stay in this state until the next Ubuntu release. Please, think to users which really use it daily. - it is not correct to force user to upgrade to next Ubuntu version because a single component which is not reliable and which won't be stabilized (Abiword or PulseAudio). I also think this problem fix should be managed by AbiWord team, possibly by discussing with PulseAudio developers for a fix. There is a major consequence for this application and it would be a wrong strategy to let to many users think that AbiWord is not reliable enough to choise it. -- Abiword crashes when opening a file (Karmic, i686). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/430870 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
