[Bug 513666] Re: screen not locked on suspend or hibernate (screen saver not activated)

2010-03-17 Thread Per Ångström
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

  KDE 4.3.95, Lucid Lynx Alpha 2+.

  I find that KDE on Ubuntu will not lock the screen when I suspend to RAM
  or hibernate to disk, if I initiate the action from within KDE. However,
  if I press my laptop's Fn-key suspend-to-RAM combination, the screen
  saver is activated and the screen is locked upon resume, just as it
  should be. In the latter case, just before the machine is suspended, I
  get a reassuring notification about the screen saver being activated. In
  the former case, that notification is missing.

  I have tried the same version of KDE on openSUSE 11.2, and there the
  screen saver is activated properly.

  My login manager is KDM.

  How to reproduce:
  1) Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  2) Select "Suspend to RAM" from the "Turn off Computer" submenu.
  (Just before the machine goes to sleep there should be a notification about
the screen saver being activated.)
  3) Wake up the machine after it has been suspended.

  Expected behavior: The screen saver should be running. A password prompt
protects against unauthorized access.
  Actual behavior: The screen saver is not running. There is no password prompt.

[Bug 537665] Re: package phpmyadmin 4:3.2.2.1-1 failed to install/upgrade: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2).

2010-03-17 Thread avandobben
No, I first installed phpmyadmin.
During the process I got the error.
Then I installed MySQL 5.1 server.
Aftert that phpmyadmin was functioning correctly.

In my opinion it is part of the bug that phpmyadmin installation does
not check if MySQL server is running or not, but drops an error
directly.

Hibernate actually works when using Nouveau, but not with proprietary

[Bug 539384] Re: Ensure name "simple scan" is not translated in French

2010-03-17 Thread Viale Fabrice
I think gcalctool is a counter productive example. Do no using the real name
carry over later communication problems.
So current problem bypass simple-scan case. The lack of rules is the
fundamental problem.
- Authors should be encourage to don't use name that exclude other softwares.
"Simple scan" is a wrong name. None other can be simple? Other should be
complex? Author shouldn't be worry or afraid to personalize the name of their
software. We all communicate using name and surname.
- In accordance, It will be better to use 2 terms inside the menu :
   + Calculator Gcalctool
   + Scan Flegita
   + Scan Gscan2pdf
   + Text Abiword
=> Please stop to use "tools", "manager" and other empty terms. Especially
because menu become complex and because they apply to everything without
carrying a particular sense.
- The significant word appears delayed into the sequence of words rather than
at first.
- The alphabetical ordering doesn't work and you have to search sometimes e.g.
"scan", "tool", "flegita"... at start or at the end of the menu.
(admin or preference menus illustrate these limits).

Why not "Numérisation Simple Scan"

[Bug 513950] Re: [lucid] xorg froze after disabled KMS and enabling compiz on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500

2010-03-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  In trying workarounds for bug #507148 I disabled KMS by booting with
  radeon.modeset=0. I had compiz disabled, then enabled it. I had screen
  garbling so tried to take a screenshot. This worked but after double
  clicking on the Screenshot.png on my desktop, X froze. I could ssh in,
  so I ran 'ubuntu-bug xorg' from there. I do not have an xorg.conf file.

[Bug 254908] Re: [HD 3470] Installation Problem

2010-03-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  I've Asus M51Se240DV notebook which uses ATI Radeon Mobilitiy HD 3470
  Graphic card and 3GB DDR2 RAM. In both of installations, 64bit and
  32bit, it gives an error and drops to console. It cannot start X server.
  I couldn't remember all of the error message, but it is about X server.
  The graphic card cannot be identified by the X server. I've tried to
  change Driver option to mesa and ati but it again doesn't work. Also,
  I've tried installation with alternate cd, however, it cannot start
  after the installation and dropped to console. I've googled internet,
  but i couldn't find anything working.

[Bug 539974] Re: Some italian translations need to be corrected

2010-03-17 Thread Milo Casagrande
Hi,

thanks for reporting this bug trying to make Ubuntu better

If you are referring to the "Svn" vs. "svn" vs. "SVN", it is not an
Italian translation related issue. That very string is not translatable
through the apt template.

For that, this bug is invalid for me.

If you are referring to something else, can you please elaborate a little bit
more?
Thanks.

[Bug 426582] Re: (32MB) certain windows drawn garbled when XAA is used

2010-03-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

  Certain applications, such as notify-osd and gnome-do, always draw
  windows that are unusably garbled.

  I have not experienced this behavior in any other application, only
  gnome-do and notify-osd, nor can I reproduce it on a computer with
  nvidia drivers (both machines are running karmic and are completely up-
  to-date).

  The issue is not otherwise related to a quirk in my system config, as I
  can reproduce the bug on an alpha 5 livecd.

[Bug 507618] Re: xserver-xorg-video-radeon has insufficient (even missing) dependency on libdrm-radeon1

2010-03-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

  During a partial upgrade from karmic to lucid, I wanted to restart X after
updating the X packages but it didn't come back.
  Looking at the gdm log the error could be found pretty fast:
/usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so: undefined symbol: radeon_cs_create

  At this point xserver-xorg-video-radeon was already updated to
  1:6.12.99+git20091125.0061c4db-0ubuntu2 (lucid) while libdrm-radeon1 was
  still at 2.4.14-1ubuntu1 (karmic). Updating libdrm-radeon1 to
  2.4.17-0ubuntu1 (lucid) fixed it and my X started again.

  I looked then at the dependencies of xserver-xorg-video-radeon I saw that
it's missing a dependency on libdrm-radeon1 at all:
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libpciaccess0, xserver-xorg-core (>=
2:1.6.99.900)
  Looking further at the needed libraries of
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so:
  $ objdump -x /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so | grep NEEDED
NEEDED   libpixman-1.so.0
NEEDED   libdrm_radeon.so.1
NEEDED   libdrm.so.2
NEEDED   libpciaccess.so.0
NEEDED   libc.so.6
  other needed libraries are missing in Depends too. While at least
libpixman-1-0 and libdrm2 are pulled in through xserver-xorg-core depending on
them (still are direct dependency would be better than a indirect one),
libdrm-radeon1 is only pulled in through a recommendation:
  $ aptitude why xserver-xorg-video-radeon libdrm-radeon1
  i   xserver-xorg-video-radeon Dependsxserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.6.99.900)
  i A xserver-xorg-core Recommends libgl1-mesa-dri (>= 7.1~rc1)
  i   libgl1-mesa-dri   Dependslibdrm-radeon1 (>= 2.4.12)
  But this doesn't assure that libdrm-radeon1 is installed at all and even in
the correct version needed by xserver-xorg-video-radeon.

  kernel updates), my machine enters low graphics mode and I cannot switch
  visual effects to normal or extra. It says that it is searching for
  drivers. I don't understand this: I have never had this problem in the

[Bug 448563] Re: NetworkManager uses a disconnection notification to tell me I'm connected

2010-03-17 Thread Per Ångström
While investigating the matter for writing a lucid-specific bug report,
I found out that I could make the problem disappear by disabling and re-
enabling notifications in nm-applet. I then get a final indication
showing that the connection has been re-established. Maybe I had
disabled that notification and forgot about it.

[Bug 384179] Re: Unable to use external display on ATI Radeon IGP320M (U1)

2010-03-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

  I am unable to use an external display on ATI Radeon IGP320M (U1) video
  card in a HP ze4365us laptop using Ubuntu 9.04. The LVDS display works
  correctly, but I cannot get the VGA-0 display to work. When I start the
  machine, the VGA port displays a clone of the LCD screen until X starts.
  I have tried to enable the display using xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto,
  but the display hooked up to VGA-0 remains off even though xrandr
  indicates it is active.

Hi.

Here is the reversal of the commit that I mentioned earlier. Please, do
apply it, as it is very important to have this fixed, especially for a
long term release.

[Bug 298139] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in spectre_gs_send_page()

2010-03-17 Thread Rogério Theodoro de Brito
Hi there.

I've been bitten by this one for almost a year and I just took some time
to discover what the hell was happening here.

After bisecting here the git tree from upstream, I noticed an error: the
commit 52fa52f93943a6154cf2ac9b473d6b4948d75a15 changes a cast from an
unsigned long long int to a uintptr_t. This may have worked on some
architectures, but it surely doesn't work on some 32-bit arches. In
particular, on PowerPC, this leads to very bad results:

#include

int main(void)
{
printf("%llu\n", (unsigned long int) 42);
printf("%llu\n", (unsigned long long int) 42);
return 0;
}

produces here:

183609205424
42

The problem with the code is in libspectre/spectre-device.c, around line
240. Reverting the commit 52fa52f93943a6154cf2ac9b473d6b4948d75a15 fixes
this here and makes everything work fine. I can confirm that the file
that the original poster posted here works fine now.

BTW, just for the record, here are the sizes, in bytes, of the integral
and pointer types in the 32 and 64-bit archictectures under Linux:

|   | 32 bits arch | 64 bits arch |
| int   |4 |4 |
| long  |4 |8 |
| long long |8 |8 |
| pointer   |4 |8 |
| short |2 |2 |

Sorry if this shows up messed up, but seeing with a fixed-width font
makes things nicer---otherwise, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ArchitectureSpecificsMemo.

In summary, we need the field to always be 8-bytes long and simply using
a (unsigned) long is enough for, say, amd64, but not for powerpc. We
really want a type that is 8-bytes wide in both arches and this should
be a long long.

Otherwise, the instruction to use a format string of llu (or llx, for
that matter) on a printf-like function makes the function read
information that is not part of the integral argument being passed.

Regards,

[Bug 522295] Re: [needs-packaging] Include PHP 5.3 in Lucid

2010-03-17 Thread Rick Vugteveen
Is there any effort to have a php 5.2 package also available as an
option (perhaps php52 like in Macports)? I agree with everyone else that
its time to move up to 5.3. However, there are applications that will
have problems. In the Drupal community newer versions (6+) work fine
with 5.3 but it is common for contributed modules to lag behind in
support. When developers are working with dozens of modules per site
compatibility problems will be inevitable.

Colin, please, stop leaving comments about how you don't want to know

much time, if not, you can stop anytime.

I know several people who still using Ubuntu 8.04 because of this bug.

[Bug 430870] Re: Abiword crashes when opening a file (Karmic, i686).

2010-03-17 Thread rmais96
In my opinion, a fix for next Ubuntu release is not enough :
 - this is a major bug for Abiword which is unusable for existing document on
Karmic Koala.
 - Abiword can not stay in this state until the next Ubuntu release. Please,
think to users which really use it daily.
 - it is not correct to force user to upgrade to next Ubuntu version because a
single component which is not reliable and which won't be stabilized (Abiword
or PulseAudio).

I also think this problem fix should be managed by AbiWord team, possibly by
discussing with PulseAudio developers for a fix.
There is a major consequence for this application and it would be a wrong
strategy to let to many users think that AbiWord is not reliable enough to
choise it.
