2010-02-03 Thread Sense Hofstede
I'll try to reproduce the bug, but I think it's more an issue with the
gtk2-engine-murirne package in ppa:~ken-vandine/gnomex. Since I removed
it I haven't been able to reproduce this crash again. I'll try to run it
in a debugger and check with the Murrine developers.

Re: [Bug 497887] Re: Support Application Indicators

2010-02-03 Thread Mark Shuttleworth

The preferred result is that Gwibber just uses the Messaging Menu if it
is available. Alternatively, it should use the Application Indicators.
And only as a fallback, the old systray.

The UI in the preferences can simply ask a single question:

[ ] Display in the panel

... or thereabouts, MPT would have the best language. The rest should
Just Work.

[Bug 516435] [NEW] Any game using OpenAL has sound problems and crashes on exit

2010-02-03 Thread Paul Smith
Public bug reported:

I've been using Jaunty for a long time, but only a week ago I upgraded
to Karmic via the software installer.

Since then, both OpenArena and AssaultCube have had frame rate problems
(particularly in open spaces. Enclosed spaces seem to be ok). The sound
starts ok, and everything runs fine. But after a few minutes the sound
stutters and then falls silent. After this point, any attempt to exit
the game will cause the system to freeze. Its definitely the system that
fails, there is no way of killing the process. I am forced to use the
reset switch on my pc to do a hardware restart of the system.

>From some research it seems that there may be a problem between OpenAL
and Pulseaudio.

I was using version 1.8 of OpenAL, so I upgraded to version 1.10 and
everything seemed okay for a day. Then the sound became distorted again
and the original problem resurfaced.

There is another bug, #351732, which describes a similar problem.
However #351732 is based on Jaunty.

[Bug 516437] [NEW] Try to install mysql-server and get hundreds of blocking 'logger: [-x] [-p log_facility] [-t tag] message' messages.

2010-02-03 Thread ikpetroff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-server

Release: Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy)
Package: mysql-server, 5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.4
Expected: usual installation process

Command run: sudo apt-get install mysql-server

What happened instead:
The installation hangs and hundreds of identical messages appear on the
terminal:
  'logger: [-x] [-p log_facility] [-t tag] message'
Without the command 'killall logger' that must be run quickly and several
times, the system finally hangs (drawn by all these new logger processes) and
the only solution is a manual reboot or reset.

My OS is up to date.

[Bug 506980] Re: Clipboard is broken. Gnome must include glipper by default

Chris, then I think we need to find another way to find a working
solution for the users.

Seriously, clipboard should Just Work [without silly restrictions of not
closing source application], otherwise we are like 15 years behind other
desktops.

[Bug 481026] Re: Microphone does not work with ATI IXP SB4x0

2010-02-03 Thread biblos
The same problem on Aspire 5100, Ubuntu 9.10, Alsa 1.0.20.

Thanks a lot to gio10!!!
After changing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf I can use external mic with skype.
In the same time the quality of recordings using gnome-sound-recorder is awful,
internal mic doesn't work still.

[Bug 95326] Re: sound juicer aac formatted files skip and...

2010-02-03 Thread Toon Verwaest
Just found out that profile=4 encodes something semi-ok but it appears
to still be played back broken. The noise is just more subtle (although
too annoying to listen to with headphones).

And profile=2 has the problem that the track numbers are not added to
the file. When I try to manually add them using rhythmbox itself, they
only stay until I restart rhythmbox. When I add them using easytag,
easytag finds them back after restarting easytag; although rhythmbox
doesn't notice the difference. If anyone has a solution for this problem
... I again only find descriptions of this problem online.

[Bug 458811] Re: lm-sensors not working on Intel d945gclf

2010-02-03 Thread Ron W6FM
So this is a feature and not a bug ;-> I have an Intel D850GB and I am
affected as well. I am not concerned about the bios writing to the pwm
control for the fan. There are three different hardware sensors on the
board and it appears that the bios does not use any of them. I think the
hardware engineers got a bit ahead of the game. Adding the boot flag
allowed me to load the smsc47m1 module and I have my fan control back.
Cheers!

[Bug 456204] Re: [Jaunty] Screen image jumps on boot and in OS

2010-02-03 Thread LinuxChristian
I found the problem! Apparently my motherboard has some design flaw. I have a
Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H.
I read that it helps to Onboard VGA Output Support option in the Advanced
section of the bios and set it to D-Sub/HDMI, but I have not tried it yet
myself.

So no software problem. Bug closed.

2010-02-03 Thread Marcello Romani
Hallo, I would like to report that this problem affects me as well.

The main 3D view is full of green, black and brown pixels that look like the
interface is now properly redrawn.
In the bottom panel, various buttons are gray. The button's icon appear when
the mouse is over it, but disappears when the mouse cursor moves to another one.
When I open and close a menu that covers part of the main 3D view, artifacts
appear as soon after the menu is closed. Those artifacts disappear in a moment
but are perfectly visible.
The whole application is just plain slow. I don't refer to rendering, which
works fine, but to the interactive 3D display. On the same PC where Ubuntu 9.10
runs now the MS Windows port of Blender, under XP SP3, was much better.

I attach some screenshots and lspci -vvnn run as root.

2010-02-03 Thread ^_Pepe_^
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

[Bug 516446] [NEW] multihead setup changed on wake-up from suspend

2010-02-03 Thread Antti Kaihola
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When opening the netbook lid to wake up from suspend, the xinerama
multi-head setup is different than when closing the lid.

Example 1:

1. open gnome-display-properties
2. configure an external monitor to extend the desktop to the *right* from the
netbook screen
2. note that the panels are on the netbook screen
3. close the lid, wait until suspended, open the lid
4. netbook screen is off, desktop limited to external monitor with panels
visible there
5. hit Fn+8 to enable netbook screen
6. panels still on external monitor
7. external monitor is now to the *left* from the netbook screen
8. use gnome-display-properties to fix the layout

Example 2:

1. open gnome-display-properties
2. configure an external monitor to extend the desktop to the *right* from the
netbook screen
2. note that the panels are on the netbook screen
3. close the lid, wait until suspended, open the lid
4. netbook screen is off, desktop limited to external monitor with panels
visible there
5. open gnome-display-properties
6. netbook screen is automatically enabled (before interacting with
gnome-display-properties)
7. panels move to netbook screen
8. external monitor is now to the *left* from the netbook screen
9. use gnome-display-properties to fix the layout

This is Lucid up-to-date as of 2010-02-03 with xserver-xorg-core
2:1.7.3.902-1ubuntu9, running on a Dell Mini 9 with an external BenQ
1280x1024 VGA LCD panel.

[Bug 506717] Re: [Lucid] plymouth does not display when using nvidia drivers

2010-02-03 Thread Steve Langasek
Let me see if I've understood right - after upgrade to plymouth
0.8.0~-8, you do correctly get prompted for the passphrase on boot,
which didn't work before; and then the screen is messed up afterwards?
I guess that will be a new bug.

When you do see the prompt for the passphrase, what does the prompt look
like? Is it text-only?
