[Bug 452175] Re: Random segfaults when using ld.so explicitly to start a program
This is still the case for 2.6.31-17-generic-pae (and non -pae). If there is no fix comming it would rock if someone could tell us how to rebuild the current kernel with the problematic patch dropped (in step- by-step fashion, as I usualy don't rebuild my kernel)? I need to test further, but after doing the echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/randomize_va_space I don't get the out-of-memory errors in sb2 so far. My machine is a T60 thinkpad and I found no way to enable NX. Sadly I don't even seem to be able to enter the bios. $ cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 14 model name : Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz stepping: 8 cpu MHz : 1000.000 cache size : 2048 KB physical id : 0 siblings: 2 core id : 0 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fdiv_bug: no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug: no coma_bug: no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 10 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr pge mca cmov clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe constant_tsc arch_perfmon bts pni monitor vmx est tm2 xtpr pdcm bogomips: 3657.84 clflush size: 64 power management: (same fore 2nd core) -- Random segfaults when using ld.so explicitly to start a program https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452175 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 506951] Re: x locks when starting
No, it is not possible to upgrade only a small part of Karmic. It's fine if you want to stay on Karmic. This kind of breakage sometimes happens in the development version of Ubuntu and if you cannot risk that it might stop working after an upgrade, it is better not to run it. On my laptop I have two partitions. One with Jaunty that I have set up well a long time ago that I use for work, and one with Lucid that I use at home and catch bugs as they appear. Because of this problem my Lucid didn't work for a day or two, but I still could use the computer. -- x locks when starting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506951 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 507370] [NEW] combobox, firefox fails while ie doesn't.why?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.5 As info required by 1 and 2 of the guidelines are already included by the automatic reporter, I'll jump to 3 and 4. Dropdown menus or comboboxes containing a list of years for users to select are used widely in web sites providing information that relates dates. Firefox on Linux and Windows behaves the same, ie., it cannot retrieve the programmed data to assemble the menu. This stops users from passing the information to the server but getting warnings or errors messages back from the server instead. Interesting is IE works fine on Windows XP with no JAVA installed (no info after checked by 'java -version'). Example is www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/RKJ/announce/search.jsp. However, to my experiences, date and month comboboxes never show this problem. [Bug 502055] Re: [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working
Terry, Point 1 about backing up all your data and settings to external drive is excellent advice otherwise you will lose all the data on the Ubuntu side unless you follow a fairly simple procedure that no-one seems to know about except me & i am late for work. So backup your entire /home to external drive or onto another machine to backup everything. Please ask this as a new question. It might seem like a stupid question or "obvious" but i think there are a lot of people that would appreciate finding a clear question about this in the "Solved Answers Database" in the future. It was something i looked for when i first started. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion The "obvious" guide is https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot I am sure i once found an excellent guide elsewhere but cant find the bookmark to it now :( Good luck and regards from Tom :) -- [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 507373] [NEW] can't install additional software. Untrusted application.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp "Requires the installation of untrusted packages". I switched from windows to Ubuntu linux because of the problems with windows. The earlier version of Ubuntu worked great, no problems with installing new software. After updating to the latest Ubuntu, installation of new software is almost impossible. Ubuntu does not allow the installation of most of the software listed in the Ubuntu software centre. If it is not trusted why list it? Where should I go? Windows? God forbid! [Bug 507371] [NEW] xsplash error
Public bug reported: gan...@ganesh-desktop:~$ sudo xsplash (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_height: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (src)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_height: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_new_subpixbuf: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (src_pixbuf)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_height: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed (xsplash:2389): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_get_width: assertion `GDK_IS_PIXBUF (pixbuf)' failed The program 'xsplash' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 129 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) gan...@ganesh-desktop:~$ ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xsplash error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
