[Bug 452175] Re: Random segfaults when using ld.so explicitly to start a program

2010-01-14 Thread Stefan Kost
This is still the case for 2.6.31-17-generic-pae (and non -pae). If
there is no fix comming it would rock if someone could tell us how to
rebuild the current kernel with the problematic patch dropped (in step-
by-step fashion, as I usualy don't rebuild my kernel)?

I need to test further, but after doing the
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/randomize_va_space
I don't get the out-of-memory errors in sb2 so far.

My machine is a T60 thinkpad and I found no way to enable NX. Sadly I
don't even seem to be able to enter the bios.

[Bug 506951] Re: x locks when starting

2010-01-14 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
No, it is not possible to upgrade only a small part of Karmic. It's fine
if you want to stay on Karmic. This kind of breakage sometimes happens
in the development version of Ubuntu and if you cannot risk that it
might stop working after an upgrade, it is better not to run it. On my
laptop I have two partitions. One with Jaunty that I have set up well a
long time ago that I use for work, and one with Lucid that I use at home
and catch bugs as they appear. Because of this problem my Lucid didn't
work for a day or two, but I still could use the computer.

[Bug 507072] Re: Add support for freenode ircd-seven CAP command

2010-01-14 Thread Terence Simpson
I am unfamiliar with the XChat source, so the patch I produced was just
an attempt at preserving the feature, the patch at

[Bug 362734] Re: suspend mode didn't resume

2010-01-14 Thread ^_Pepe_^
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 362734

Thanks in advance

[Bug 212135] Re: was just playing the game and it closed/crashed. I am blind so can't tell what wass happening on the screen.

2010-01-14 Thread Darryl LeCount
I've been experiencing this as well, but only on certain systems. I
can't figure out for the life of me what is causing it but I suspect an
array somewhere is overfilling and causing a buffer overflow. I'm on it
in any case.

Can anyone else confirm that this is only on the first and third levels?
If so, I suspect it's to do with the code handling the backgrounds in

[Bug 507367] [NEW] no pty terminal in lucid

2010-01-14 Thread Schmirrwurst
Public bug reported:

When I start lucid, I've no terminal. When installing any program with chroot,
it is also always complaining about failed openpty()...
I've tried with -9 and the last -10 kernel...
Lucid is sucessfully starting kdm, there are no tty1... or something like
that...

I've no terminal, so I don't know how to add usefull logs here, because
from chroot, infos comes from karmic and not from lucid .. ?

[Bug 356710] Re: [Sony Corporation VGN-SZ2XP_C] suspend/resume failure

2010-01-14 Thread ^_Pepe_^
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 356710

Thanks in advance

[Bug 507368] [NEW] adns version bump to 1.2.1 from 1.1.1

Public bug reported:

A new version of adns has been available for quite a while and it has

Would it be possible for the newer version to be available in hardy

[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100

2010-01-14 Thread Jan Newmarch
It is now the middle of January 2010, and I have been updating Karmic on
my MSI U100+ on a regular basis, including today. The problem still
remains, raising and lowering brightness. While this well-known problem
doesn't get fixed, I will remain on 9.04 on all my other machines and
maybe go back to 9.04 on the netbook too where it was not a problem :-(.

[Bug 252382] Re: firefox fails to load the python loader XPCOM component

2010-01-14 Thread Willie Gillespie
Mine is the same basic error (new version listed in the path of the XPCOM
component):
"Failed to load XPCOM component:
/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.7/components/libpyloader.so"
"Failed to load XPCOM component:
/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.7/components/pyabout.py"

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 x64 with all the latest updates.
My Firefox installation has 3 add-ons loaded:
Live HTTP headers 0.15
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.8
Web Developer 1.1.8

I tried disabling all but the Ubuntu Firefox Modifications, but the
problem persists. It just makes it hard to read through the error
console for tracking down some problems.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 335029 ***

Sounds like gnome-appearance ends up calling QGtkStyle. The reason this
would happen is if the user is using the gtk-qt-engine for theming while
at the same time using QGtkStyle configured for Qt apps. For obvious
reasons this configuration is not supported as it will end with endless
recursion. Try uninstalling either theme engine and see if the problem
occurs.

[Bug 507370] [NEW] combobox, firefox fails while ie doesn't.why?

2010-01-14 Thread wijit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

As info required by 1 and 2 of the guidelines are already included by
the automatic reporter, I'll jump to 3 and 4. Dropdown menus or
comboboxes containing a list of years for users to select are used
widely in web sites providing information that relates dates. Firefox on
Linux and Windows behaves the same, ie., it cannot retrieve the
programmed data to assemble the menu. This stops users from passing the
information to the server but getting warnings or errors messages back
from the server instead. Interesting is IE works fine on Windows XP with
no JAVA installed (no info after checked by 'java -version'). Example is
www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/RKJ/announce/search.jsp. However, to my
experiences, date and month comboboxes never show this problem.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

[Bug 502055] Re: [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working

2010-01-14 Thread Tom
Terry,

Point 1 about backing up all your data and settings to external drive is
excellent advice otherwise you will lose all the data on the Ubuntu side
unless you follow a fairly simple procedure that no-one seems to know
about except me & i am late for work. So backup your entire /home to
external drive or onto another machine to backup everything.

Please ask this as a new question. It might seem like a stupid question or
"obvious" but i think there are a lot of people that would appreciate finding a
clear question about this in the "Solved Answers Database" in the future. It
was something i looked for when i first started.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion

The "obvious" guide is
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

I am sure i once found an excellent guide elsewhere but cant find the
bookmark to it now :(

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I can confirm that going to synaptic package manager and reinstalling
dkms solved the problem for me as well.

[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100

2010-01-14 Thread Meki
Have you even tried the BIOS update?
It isn't enough to just update Ubuntu, you'll have to update the BIOS as well.
There's even a new BIOS available for the u100+, so go for it!
Remember to use the flash.bat, also you can find instructions in previous
posts...

[Bug 385424] Re: [Dell Inc. XPS M1330] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 385424

Thanks in advance

[Bug 507373] [NEW] can't install additional software. Untrusted application.

2010-01-14 Thread LouisDB
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

"Requires the installation of untrusted packages". I switched from windows to
Ubuntu linux because of the problems with windows. The earlier version of
Ubuntu worked great, no problems with installing new software. After updating
to the latest Ubuntu, installation of new software is almost impossible. Ubuntu
does not allow the installation of most of the software listed in the Ubuntu
software centre. If it is not trusted why list it?
Where should I go? Windows? God forbid!

The program 'xsplash' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
