[Bug 487461] [NEW] Karmic : frozen mouse more and more often

2009-11-24 Thread winux
Public bug reported:

Everything is in the title.

This becomes really "a pain in the ass" because it could last for 1 or 2
minutes or for ever and rebooting is the only solution. So I lose a part
of my job and it really gets on my nerves!! (never happened with windows
seven!)

I already mentioned that in Jaunty, but no improvement so far

[Bug 487431] Re: wirless on UBuntu on 64 bit machine

2009-11-24 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

[Bug 483978] Re: Ubuntu One do not want to connect at computer startup

2009-11-24 Thread Daan van Es
I seem to have the same problem.
Answer to your question: Yes, this is only when the computer boots.

When I start my computer, the Ubuntu One icon shows an exclamation mark.
After manually selecting "Connect" it connects without any problems.
When I restart Ubuntu One, it also connects automatically without any problems.

The contents of my ubuntuone-client.conf:

[ubuntuone]
connected = True
connect = 0
show_applet = 0
bookmarked = True

[Bug 374101] Re: Brasero hangs at Normalizing tracks

2009-11-24 Thread nomnex
Jaunty 9.04 2 computers, same Brasero settings (mainly default): burn
audio tracks using the same external USB CD-DVD-RAM (Logitec)

First notebook: Panasonic Let'note CF-W2 burn audio tracks without problem
(normalization plug-in enabled) on the external drive
Second notebook: Fujitsu FMV-Biblo NH28D does not burn and hangs in the process
while displaying "normalization track" message on and on. Will burn only with
the normalization plug-in disabled.

Can I provide a log? I am wondering if the cause could be CODEC related?
I can't explain why, on one default config it works but not on the
other.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server

2009-11-24 Thread Carl Friis-Hansen
For Delete message Evolution is using:
  IMAPv4 EXPUNGE Command
instead of
  \Deleted flag set

For search message Evolution is using:
fetch all mail, inclusive body where apply, and do a local search (The POP3
way)
instead of
  IMAPv4 SEARCH Command

Here is a fresh example why it is a problem:
--
Just lost over 800 deleted emails. I had borrowed a laptop with Ubuntu 9.10,
configured my usual IMAP email account in Evolution. There where practical
reasons for me not to use my Squirrel mail to the same IMAP account.
After deleting some 800 messages and giving the laptop back, I found that the
deleted messages where nowhere on the IMAP server.
--

Using many different clients over the last 10 years, this is the first time I
encounter an IMAP client that totally missed the Idea with Internet Message
Access Protocol. Evolution should display a clear warning, that the
application does not follow the standard of the IMAP protocol or they should
correct the client ASAP.
This disrespect has gone on since 2005 and has been deemed wishful thinking by
the otherwise so great Evolution team.

We can all have different ideas about how an email client should work,
but to ignore the whole purpose of the IMAP protocol is not the best way
and the proprietary delete and search implementation is also a security
concern and massive misuse of Internet bandwidth.

In todays IMAP the "Deleted" flag and the Search command are is to be used.
Flags defined in the IMAP4 protocol serves to tell weather an email is deleted
or not. The IMAP server will take care of presenting a deleted email as being
in the Trash folder and the server will normally also take care of expunging
deleted emails after for example 7 days or so. These flags are stored on the
server, so different clients accessing the same mailbox at different times can
detect state changes made by other clients.

Sadly it is the same issue with *Server-side searches* that is *not*
offered by Evolution. Some of us have more that 10,000 emails and need
at times to search through the text body of *all* the messages. Such a
search takes about 5 seconds when issuing a Server-side search and the
only download are the headers of the result - perfect. Such a search is
impossible in Evolution, which only provide a locally implemented
search. Theoretically one could wait a day or too for Evolution to
download all the email bodies, but how complicated can it be to
implement a real Server-side search?

Most other IMAP clients use the correct way of Deleting (and Searching).
I think (guess) that the problem, seen from Evolutions' standpoint, is
that everything is done correctly with respect to POP3 and that the
different architecture need for full blown IMAP4rev1 functionality is
problematic.

So my recommendations is to clearly state, in the account definition, something
like this:
Server type:IMAP (Partly implemented)
Description:For reading and storing mail on IMAP servers. Delete and Search
act in POP3 style.

Until such time the RFC 3501 is implemented regarding Delete and Search.

[Bug 271041] Re: fullscreen-plugin should be enabled by default

2009-11-24 Thread Matt Jones
In previous versions of Ubuntu I have never had to enable this plugin.
But with Karmic to be able to fullscreen on double click I must enable
the plugin in Eye of Gnome.

It has taken me a week to work this out. I definitely vote for the
plugin being enabled by default just to prevent unnecessary stress for
new users of Karmic.

no sense? I swear, Ubuntu should never have replaced Pidgin with

Audio/Video support to PIdgin...

Not direct, but by checking the output of modprobe -v for the sting
"insmod".

I modified the patch accordingly.

The patch works for me, for others there has to be the decision: If the
weakness
of depending on the output of modprobe is too strong, you can close this bug
withou applying the patch. If you think the check stable enough please apply.

Re: [Bug 487456] [NEW] Missing dependency to bash

2009-11-24 Thread Ari Hyttinen
Fair enough.

But note that I'm only suggesting that this limitation (installation
scripts should depend on a more limited set of utilities) would apply
to debs required to make system bootable and complete installation. So
I don't think there are many packages that would need to be changed
(grep bin/bash /var/lib/dpkg/info), and changes should be trivial.

I'm currently in a process of building a minimal Ubuntu, because I
want some available Ubuntu packages, and also want easy maintaining so
having a non-broken installation is a priority, but disk space is also
at premium. And I have to say, ubuntu-minimal is not *that* minimal...
Though I'm more irked at having to have perl installed (for debconf).

Though having a really minimal minimal installation would be helpful
for installers and live CDs too, not just embedded type PCs. But this
is wish list stuff, I agree.

Re: [Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 485607] Re: Cannot change icon (Blender)

2009-11-24 Thread Fabounet
haha, here is the culprit !
for some strange reason, the Blender's desktop file contain a translated
version of the Iconn key :
Icon[en_US]=blender

this is a bug ! an icon name can't be translated.
This field is probably used by the dock instead of the "normal" one, hence
your problem.
it would be nice if you report this little bug to the maintainer of Blender
in Ubuntu, since I think it's rather a packaging fault
Anyway, to fix your problem, just delete the last line of the .desktop
(needs root priviledges), and re-import the launcher into the dock.

[Bug 477104] Re: After 9.10 grub update can not boot into Wubi install

2009-11-24 Thread ncmncm
Hello all,

Experiencing the same problems as above. Have

- single hardisk (2 paritions) with WinXP and Ubuntu(on C:\)
- Ubuntu 9.10 Kernel 2.6.31.14 was installed first and grub worked fine
- Update generated new version 2.6.31-15
- restarted system and falls into grub shell.

Followed the steps from post #22 (McKraught) and system came to life
again.

update-grub does _NOT_ solve the problem!

Unfortunately for me, this whole thing happened on a production/release
system running SVN.

Can someone suggest an solution/ alternative to grub until this issue is
resolved?

a patch? Should I register a new branch for
https://code.launchpad.net/bzr or just make a bundle and attach it here?

[Bug 9449] Re: the clock calendar should use tooltips on events

2009-11-24 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
It would help if this bug report included steps to reproduce the
problem. After adding someone with birthday today, they don't show up in
the calendar applet for me.

Judging by the screenshot, though, the obvious solution is to rearrange
the text so that the variable text comes first.

Because then this is a bit other bug then I seen.

I use luks on this box, and since auto-executed cryptsetup-using script
that i written does nothing when executed from init.d, I have to run the
script (so - run cryptsetups luksOpen) manually - and then it works.

What if you try to mount the disc manually? What encryption are you

[Bug 478271] Re: akonadi reports errors on starting

2009-11-24 Thread Hans Peter Schwob
I should have looked more severely to older problems with akonadi. Bug #365124
gives under msg #3 the following advice: "sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop".
When running kontact afterwards, I got the message that the migration was done
OK. To be sure, I ran the following commands, according to an advice of
http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi:
sudo aa-complain mysqld
sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor reload
And now my problem is gone. Kubuntu boots properly and kontakt starts without
any delaying akonadi message.
Thank you Harald Sitter.

[Bug 428884] Re: gnome-screensaver-command --poke no longer inhibits screensaver

2009-11-24 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
You are welcome to provide a patch for the VLC 1.0-bugfix branch if you

In VLC 1.1, the problem is off-shored to xdg-screensaver. So it's up to
GNOME screensaver and XDG-utils to interoperate. And so there is no fix
to be made on VLC's side.

Problem appeared again in karmic...

I think (but of course it's just my opinion) you should include in the
repositories all the packages kile-i18n-xxx, even if they are in beta.
Or, you could include the packages kile-i18n-xxx from some old version.

A bad or partial translation is better than no translation at all.

[Bug 487486] [NEW] Multiple new episode dialogs when set to automatically check for new episodes

[Bug 461127] Re: Kernel installed by linux-image-virtual isn't usable as Xen DomU kernel

2009-11-24 Thread mks99
I couldn't find any hint of a configuration change in the kernel changelogs.
Therefore I guess that koudy erroneously thoguht that attaching his XEN-enabled
kernel config justifies the status change of the bug.
I'll change it back. If I'm wrong, I apologize.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Committed => Confirmed
