average before crashing with a 'ath9k: DMA failed to stop in 10 ms

[Bug 458177] Re: In dialog_functions.sh SU_TYPE=kdesu must be SU_TYPE=kdesudo for a KDE_FULL_SESSION

2009-10-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mythtv - 0.22.0+fixes22594-0ubuntu1

---
mythtv (0.22.0+fixes22594-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * New upstream snapshot.
- This should be the final one for Karmic.
- Unfortunately, this will be a commit or two shy of the actual
  0.22 release.
- Fixes upgrade scenarios from 0.21 where themes that previously
  existed are now gone.
  * debian/patches/31_vdpau_profiles.dpatch:
- Backport of trunk 22466 to add VDPAU profiles for 0.22 by default.
  * debian/mythtv-backend.upstart:
- Stop on 016 rather than on "starting shutdown".
Prevents issues with the backend respawning during reboot.
  * debian/dialog.sh:
- Use kdesudo rather than kdesu. (LP: #458177)
  * debian/source_mythtv.py:
- Don't grab jamu or hardware logs. Launchpad is timing out because
actual crashes are too big when uploaded, so we'll try to get these
pieces on a case by case basis instead.

[Bug 407040] Re: ath9k - crashes and unable to reinsert module. Hardware won't reset.

2009-10-26 Thread Neil Wilson
This is still present in Karmic RC. Note that this bug is different from
the 'DMA failed to stop' error.

The differentiation is whether you are able to remove and reinsert the
module.

If you do:

sudo rmmod ath9k
sudo modprobe ath9k

and you get

[ 900.135286] ath9k: Couldn't reset chip
[ 900.135298] ath9k: Unable to attach hardware; HAL status -5
[ 900.135449] ath9k :06:00.0: PCI INT A disabled

in the dmesg output then you have this bug

If the wireless restarts correctly you probably have this bug

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/460886

Note that you may have both...

[Bug 460889] [NEW] package openclipart-png 0.18+dfsg-8 failed to install/upgrade:

2009-10-26 Thread _sebastian_
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openclipart

maybe a dupe of #311656 but my issue happened on upgrading to karmic RC

I don't know what happened, but the whole upgrade process went wrong.

In the end I had lots of these messages:

This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
process 30582: arguments to dbus_move_error() were incorrect, assertion "(dest)
== NULL || !dbus_error_is_set ((dest))" failed in file dbus-errors.c line 278.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

then when I killed

3:2009/10/26 00-28-25:(null)(30581):chipcardd.c: 1236: Closing GWEN

the installer stoped and I was lost midst the installation.

So I guess the whole system is unclean upgraded

[Bug 414509] Re: Bluetooth plugin not initialised

2009-10-26 Thread alexalecu
I am experiencing the same problem here, running Ubuntu 9.10 RC.
Couldn't find much information about it. On the other hand, it looks like
people upgrading to Intrepid have been affected by the same problem (or
something very similar to it), there's a bug reports describing the same
behavior and error message (see Bug #282325).

I am able to pair with my cellphone, but sending / receiving files doesn't work.
Have a look at the following comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-sendto/+bug/282325/comments/15
it describes very well what happens on my machine running Ubuntu 9.10 RC.

[Bug 460890] [NEW] gnome-screensaver idle locks screen but keyboard won't work

2009-10-26 Thread Slade Winstone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Karmic RC 9.10
gnome-screensaver 2.28.0-0ubuntu3

Running Karmic RC, on a HP Pavillion TX2500 laptop. When gnome-
screensaver activates on idle timeout then the keyboard locks up and
won't work at all. The USB mouse still works, but the keyboard is
totally dead. No key combinations are possible can't switch to terminal
session etc.

When I lock the screen via CTRL+ALT+L, or from the username menu option
"Lock Screen" then the keyboard works fine.

The keyboard only seems to lock totally when the idle timeout causes the
screen to lock.

[Bug 460893] [NEW] In (k)ubuntu, SSL sites cannot be used

2009-10-26 Thread kubuntu4u2
Public bug reported:

(see also (?inactive?)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/90376)

I experience a serious problem using (k)ubuntu 9.04 for websurfing: some
sites using SSL cannot be used.

e.g. I cannot download the jdk docs from cds.sun.com site
(https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/viewproductdetail-start?productref=jdk-6u10-docs-oth-...@cds-cds_developer)
(The status bar reports "waiting for cds.sun.com..." forever)

Normally I use Firefox (version 3.0.14 + Shiretoko FF 3.5.3)
This problem has troubled me since the introduction of FF3 on the linux
platform.
I would have asked for help earlier, but
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/90376 also displays
"Saving..." forever when reporting a problem using FF.
And even Konqueror reports the following:
"Error The following errors were encountered: 400 Bad Request Bad Request Your
browser sent a request that this server could not understand. Apache/2.2.8
(Ubuntu) mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g Server at wildcard.launchpad.net Port 443"
Using ff3@windowsxp, I could file this report

I could download the jdk document on the sun site using Konquerer on the
same PC, but not with Opera 10.00 / Epiphany 2.26.1. I was also able to
download it with FF 3...@windows XP on another PC.

I tried (unsuccesfully) to solve this problem with:
- a clean install of kubuntu 9.04 (incl. deleted ~/.mozilla) ,
- various proxy setting (No / autom. setting),
- all cookies + java(script) + SSL + TSL were / are enabled
- viewing the error console (no errors reported for this site)
- try this on a differtent pc with ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit version)

[Bug 460892] [NEW] emacs version 23.1+1-4ubuntu2+22.2+0ubuntu6 depends on emacs22

2009-10-26 Thread Itai Seggev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs22

I would expect emacs version 23.1+1-4ubuntu2+22.2+0ubuntu6 to depend on
emacs23, but it still depends on emacs22. It's built from source
emacs22, which seems odd. Should a simple dependency package have its
own source?

This is on Karmic (just dist-upgraded today).

This is a bugfix only release so it would be nice if it got folded in at
some point after Karmic is released. However there is no hurry at all.
1.75 is a solid release.

Yes and no. Krzysztof applied the two most important patches already,
and the steps to tickle most of these bugs were pretty esoteric. 1.76
is really just a clearinghouse of assorted bugfixes that we wanted to
release before 1.80.

[Bug 435190] Re: Disk wakes up every 30 minutes and produces errors on dmesg

2009-10-26 Thread Martin Pitt
For easier testing, I prepared a package with Lennart's patch and
uploaded it to

  https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ppa

There's nothing else in this PPA, so it's safe for upgrading.

Can folks affected by this please upgrade to this and verify that it
fixes the problem? Thanks!

Wesnoth worked fine

Nexuiz worked just fine

[Bug 460325] Re: Kate crash desktop if open .nfo files on Karmic

sorry, I poorly explained to me:)

I do not know why it gives me no "backtrace" as you say, but i have do
all you say and in wiki.

I tested 8 NFO and they all did the same mistake. Sometimes there was no
crash, but if you open them a few times, I'm sure you could reproduce
it.

Best regards

[Bug 368659] Re: Display flickering then system crash

2009-10-26 Thread jcoffland
I have also had this bug for some time. I have the 180 nvidia driver
and compiz running on Ubuntu 9.04. Dual monitors too.

Symptoms are, screens flicker then go black. Keyboard is unresponsive
but sometimes mouse will still move.

The latest time this happened I was able to login from another machine.
Everything was still running. Initially the 'Xorg' process was taking
up 100% CPU then it calmed down to about 5%. I was able to switch to
text mode and back once with Ctrl-Alt-F1. Then both monitors lost their
signal all together.

Personally, I think it is buggy Nvidia drivers. They don't have a good
track record. I've heard rumor that Nvidia's main reason for having
their binary only HAL driver is to hide the fact that it tries to work
around a number of hardware bugs. Just Open-Source the whole driver and
fix the bugs.

This happens on my system a couple of times a week with regular use.
Very annoying.

[Bug 460897] [NEW] Tracker not returning known results

2009-10-26 Thread Corey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

Tracker is not giving me results when I query a known-existing string. I
have a large collection of MP3s that are indexed on a mdadm RAID5 array
that are shared through Samba. I have many ZZ Top albums on this share
but Tracker will return 0 results when the query "zz top" is used. A
similar search for "acdc" also returns 0 results even though many songs
exist in the indexed locations. The total files indexed by the Tracker
daemon is 337951, 49562 of them being identified as music in the
"Statistics" dialog. Most queries return correct results, these were
just two that I tried to verify that the Tracker was working correctly,
and it isn't.

[Bug 459134] Re: karmic: networking is started too late in the boot process

2009-10-26 Thread Alvin
I'm quite certain you know this stuff better than me, and I've heard before
that there is no /etc/init.d/networking
Unfortunately, there is proof that this is incorrect. If it's not intended to
be there, than that is another bug.

Steps to reproduce (tested with ubuntu-server and kubuntu karmic rc1):
- Install karmic rc1
- $ dpkg -S /etc/init.d/networking
netbase: /etc/init.d/networking
netbase is a dependancy of ubuntu-minimal and does contain
/etc/init.d/networking.

Another question is: is it important? All I know is that the network
comes up way too late (not why) and that booting halts as a result. A
slow boot is not really a problem, but this renders the machine unusable
and is thus a critical bug.

[Bug 417842] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:52 suspend_test_finish+0x7c/0x80()

2009-10-26 Thread Astenorh
I looked up in the kernel source code, what it was related to! It simply
means the resume took too long. However according to the source the
timing is based on jiffies (whatever that is) which is not a a good
timebase. The developpers would prefer a hardward timer.

Also when looking at the latest snapshot of the linux kernel
suspend_test.c has been modified : now the kernel expect the resume to
in 10 sec not 5 like before, and the time taken for resume will be
displayed in the warning message. The change in the kernel snapshot
should solve the problem for some of you.

community (running IBM Thinkpads) that we need to get to the bottom of this.

I have seen various up and down performance on my Thinkpad T60 for the
last 3 release cycles and was hopeing to get it more stable by the
release of Karmic GA, but sadly it seems that there are no progress?

I am also finding more and more related bugs with various desctriptions etc all
relating to Athereos wireless.
Root cause could boil down to the same thing ?? ? Not sure.

BTW, my wireless connection has deteriorated so much that it is almost unasable
(Wanted 2 days to upgrade yesterday via Wireless connection on a 4GB ADSL line
?)
H.

Getting up to 30% packet loss and very poor performance while I am a
mere 10 m away from my AP.

Any comments welcome

[Bug 460900] [NEW] notice on upper right corner is misplaced

2009-10-26 Thread Eric
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: devicekit-disks

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

With 9.10 I get a bug with the notice/announcement on the upper right
corner where it will be too far down (about 100-150px). Also, when I
scroll my mouse over it, it will continue fading as if my cursor weren't
over it, but when I put my cursor in the spot it should be it will stop
fading.

** Affects: devicekit-disks (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 313041] Re: Xorg Issue on Gateway MX3225 with Via graphics chipset

2009-10-26 Thread Bartosz
To resolve this bug we need at least the xorg.0.log file.

Attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file.
If you can from after reproducing this issue (or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old).

Try to run the Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and check if this error still exists

[Bug 460651] Re: package libpam-modules 1.0.1-9ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso pre-installation script fue terminado por la se?al (Fallo de segmentaci?n)

2009-10-26 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this problem and help to improve
Ubuntu.

Is this failure reproducible? The libpam-modules preinst script is a
very short shell script, so any segfault must be due to a problem in
some other component; we need to be able to reproduce the failure to
find out which component.

[Bug 435190] Re: Disk wakes up every 30 minutes and produces errors on dmesg

2009-10-26 Thread Nico
I'm soon leaving my home for a day at the office and I'd prefer not to
have the 30mn wake ups for the whole day if it does not fix it.

But be assured that the PPA will be in as soon as I am back this
evening!

I'll report back then.

Thanks!
