[Bug 411966] Re: Chess does not automatically draw cpu-vs-cpu games where same position repeats 3 times
Reported upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592980 Note that a draw is not automatic - it has to be requested by either player. It appears that GNU Chess assumes this draw is automatic and does not explicitly request it. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #592980 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592980 ** Also affects: gnome-games via http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=592980 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- Chess does not automatically draw cpu-vs-cpu games where same position repeats 3 times https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411966 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 418459] [NEW] [Acer Extensa 5620] suspend/resume failure Ubuntu 9.10
Public bug reported: Suspend/Resume never worked on this laptop, tried 8.10, 9.04, 9.10. Then, after the latest kernel upgrade, I gave it another shot and it worked! Great! Well, almost... Unfortunately, it appears as if a suspend/resume works within 15 minutes or so. But it failed when I left the laptop in Suspend overnight (although always on AC power). Also, when rebooting, it hard-locked the laptop--required over a dozen power-on attempts to finally get the screen to light up and the computer to boot. This, however, always occurred even with the previous distros/kernels. ProblemType: KernelOops Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from resuming properly. Re: [Bug 410131] Re: update-manager: "Could not initialize the package information"
Dear xmac - I am sorry , I did not realize you were waiting for a fix - The following worked for me. I am a complete novice but have been able to sort out all my problems by searching all the forums that google has given me when I search for my problems. It can take a while finding the answers but so far I have been lucky. I hope this works for you , I deleted all the files as stated in Bug #393826 and all went well. after you have run the update, look in /var/lib/apt/lists and it should have all the files correctly (automatically) reinstated. Good luck and let me know if all goes well. I will help as much as I can. This can occur when the update manager attempts to download package lists, but receives a HTML document from their gateway. If the package manager could determine the format of the package lists, making sure it's not a HTML file, before trying to parse it, the manager could rectify or, at least, inform the user that it is unable to update/download because it is having trouble downloading the package lists. In order to resolve this issue, I removed all files under /var/lib/apt/lists and ran 'sudo apt-get update', perhaps the package manager could automate this process? I'm sorry for ubuntu. It's sad to see it with so many unfixed Bugs. In my opinion ubuntu is not becoming better at all. This shows that ubuntu or linux development at all does not have a good quality control to ensure that hardware that was working before keeps working. You can't even install the newest software packages wich are being adverted all over the web. For me ubuntu failed as a Desktop OS. People want simply their stuff working, which does with windows. Maybe Google has more luck with their OS. Have fun tweaking on this, i'm going to be productive with win7, wich works out of the box, don't need to unmute micro to enable speakers. [Bug 353137] Re: missing pixels when drawing connecting lines
This bug has been fixed, but unfortunately I do not know which update fixed this. On Saturday (2009-08-22) I updated my 9.04 Ubuntu to all the latests updates and after the update the bug was fixed. Below is the list of packages my system was updated with. But like I said, unfortunately I do not know which package actually solved the problem. Good news is that it is fixed. :-) Upgraded the following packages: acpid (1.0.6-9ubuntu4) to 1.0.6-9ubuntu4.9.04.3 app-install-data (0.7.6) to 0.7.6.1 app-install-data-partner (11.9.04) to 11.9.04.2 apport (1.0-0ubuntu5) to 1.0-0ubuntu5.2 apport-gtk (1.0-0ubuntu5) to 1.0-0ubuntu5.2 apturl (0.3.3ubuntu1) to 0.3.3ubuntu1.1 bind9-host (1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1) to 1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1ubuntu0.1 bluetooth (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 bluez (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 bluez-alsa (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 bluez-cups (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 bluez-gstreamer (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 bluez-utils (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 brasero (2.26.0-0ubuntu3) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 checkbox (0.7.1) to 0.7.2 checkbox-gtk (0.7.1) to 0.7.2 compiz (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 compiz-core (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 compiz-gnome (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 compiz-plugins (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 compiz-wrapper (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 compizconfig-backend-gconf (0.8.2-0ubuntu1) to 0.8.2-0ubuntu2 consolekit (0.3.0-2ubuntu3) to 0.3.0-2ubuntu4 cron (3.0pl1-105ubuntu1) to 3.0pl1-105ubuntu1.1 cups (1.3.9-17ubuntu1) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 cups-bsd (1.3.9-17ubuntu1) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 cups-client (1.3.9-17ubuntu1) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 cups-common (1.3.9-17ubuntu1) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 dbus (1.2.12-0ubuntu2) to 1.2.12-0ubuntu2.1 dbus-x11 (1.2.12-0ubuntu2) to 1.2.12-0ubuntu2.1 dhcp3-client (3.1.1-5ubuntu8) to 3.1.1-5ubuntu8.1 dhcp3-common (3.1.1-5ubuntu8) to 3.1.1-5ubuntu8.1 dnsutils (1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1) to 1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1ubuntu0.1 ekiga (3.2.0-0ubuntu1) to 3.2.0-0ubuntu2 evince (2.26.0-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 evolution (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 evolution-common (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 evolution-data-server (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 evolution-data-server-common (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 evolution-documentation-en (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 evolution-exchange (2.26.0-0ubuntu2) to 2.26.0-0ubuntu3 evolution-plugins (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 file (4.26-2ubuntu3) to 4.26-2ubuntu4 firefox (3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3) to 3.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 firefox-3.0 (3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3) to 3.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 firefox-3.0-branding (3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3) to 3.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 firefox-3.0-gnome-support (3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3) to 3.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 firefox-gnome-support (3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3) to 3.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 foomatic-db-engine (4.0.0-0ubuntu6) to 4.0.0-0ubuntu6.1 gnome-about (1:2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 1:2.26.1-0ubuntu2 gnome-app-install (0.5.24-0ubuntu1) to 0.5.24-0ubuntu1.1 gnome-applets (2.26.0-0ubuntu4) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 gnome-applets-data (2.26.0-0ubuntu4) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 gnome-desktop-data (1:2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 1:2.26.1-0ubuntu2 gnome-settings-daemon (2.26.0-0ubuntu4) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 gnome-system-tools (2.22.2-0ubuntu3) to 2.22.2-0ubuntu4 gstreamer0.10-plugins-good (0.10.14-1) to 0.10.14-1ubuntu0.1 gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio (0.10.14-1) to 0.10.14-1ubuntu0.1 gvfs (1.2.2-0ubuntu1) to 1.2.2-0ubuntu2 gvfs-backends (1.2.2-0ubuntu1) to 1.2.2-0ubuntu2 gvfs-bin (1.2.2-0ubuntu1) to 1.2.2-0ubuntu2 gvfs-fuse (1.2.2-0ubuntu1) to 1.2.2-0ubuntu2 hal (0.5.12~rc1+git20090403-0ubuntu1) to 0.5.12~rc1+git20090403-0ubuntu4 language-selector (0.4.2.2) to 0.4.2.3 language-selector-common (0.4.2.2) to 0.4.2.3 libbind9-40 (1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1) to 1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1ubuntu0.1 libbluetooth3 (4.32-0ubuntu4) to 4.32-0ubuntu4.1 libbrasero-media0 (2.26.0-0ubuntu3) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 libcamel1.2-14 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libck-connector0 (0.3.0-2ubuntu3) to 0.3.0-2ubuntu4 libcompress-raw-zlib-perl (2.015-1) to 2.015-1ubuntu0.1 libcups2 (1.3.9-17ubuntu1) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 libcupsimage2 (1.3.9-17ubuntu1) to 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 libcurl3-gnutls (7.18.2-8ubuntu4) to 7.18.2-8ubuntu4.1 libdbus-1-3 (1.2.12-0ubuntu2) to 1.2.12-0ubuntu2.1 libdecoration0 (1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8) to 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu8.1 libdns45 (1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1) to 1:9.5.1.dfsg.P2-1ubuntu0.1 libebackend1.2-0 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libebook1.2-9 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libecal1.2-7 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libedata-book1.2-2 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libedata-cal1.2-6 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libedataserver1.2-11 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libedataserverui1.2-8 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libegroupwise1.2-13 (2.26.1-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu2 libevdocument1 (2.26.0-0ubuntu1) to 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 libevview1 (2.26.0-0ubu

[Bug 272530] Re: 64-bit Intrepid automatic permanent reboot loop related to having exactly 4GB of memory
I can just repeat what I said in my last message, it seems important to me: If I modify /etc/init.d/udev around line 68 like this: echo BEFORE sleep 5 # Fix permissions and missing symlinks/programs for devices made in # initramfs, and catch up on everything we missed log_begin_msg "Loading hardware drivers..." /sbin/udevadm trigger if /sbin/udevadm settle; then log_end_msg 0 else log_end_msg $? fi echo AFTER sleep 5 I can still see "BEFORE" appearing on the screen, but it will reboot before "AFTER" appears. So the reboot occurs while execution of " /sbin/udevadm trigger". Does anybody else observe this? my kernel is now 2.6.28-15-generic on kubunty jaunty 64 bit. -- 64-bit Intrepid automatic permanent reboot loop related to having exactly 4GB of memory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272530 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 418465] [NEW] bluetooth CUPS backend should not take more than 10 seconds in discovery mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bluez-cups I have packaged CUPS 1.4.0 now and soon (before feature freeze, today or tomorrow) it will appear in Karmic. This CUPS version has changed the device discovery procedure to make the discovery faster. Instead of calling all CUPS backends without arguments one after the other, always waiting for one backend to finish before starting the next one, now all backends are started at the same time and run in parallel. Then CUPS waits 10 seconds collecting all output of the backends. After the 10 seconds it kills all backends which are still running. The bluetooth backend seems to send out some broadcast and then wait 10 seconds for Bluetooth printers to answer. As it needs something like half a second to prepare it misses always the timeout of CUPS and so under CUPS 1.4.0 Bluetooth printers do never get discovered. I tried to reduce the timeout of the bluetooth CUPS backend to 8 seconds, but I did not find any timeout value in the source code of bluez. Can someone change this timeout? Thanks in advance. ** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: New ** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- bluetooth CUPS backend should not take more than 10 seconds in discovery mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418465 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 418464] [NEW] OpenOffice + telugu language
Public bug reported: I've reported problems with this before, I have to say it's gotten much better but there are still some problems. I am also willing to help on this project but I'll need some guidance as it's new. So if whoever is working on it wants me to help out let me know and we can get in touch, I really want to get this language functioning flawlessly in Open Office. System: Ubuntu 9.04 OpenOffice 3.1.0 Language: Telugu Complex script not rendering right (does render perfectly in Text Editor. Examples done in Presentation. Examples: 1. When actually typing the image looks weird but once you get out of text box it corrects itself. See Image 1 and 2, image 1 shows as typing, image 2 shows after I click off of the text box. Keystroke: k + e 2. Sometimes characters get too scrunched up but then when you change text size they get fixed. See image 3 and 4 Keystroke: kvb with text size originally 44 then changed to 36 3. Some letters will show up smaller for no reason while typing. See image 5 and 6. Image 5: size 44, keystroke: v Image 6: size 44, keystroke: k 4. Some characters are just wrong. See image 7. The curved hook on the top left should be a check mark. keystroke: m+d+l 5. Sometimes letters just randomly start being small and incorrect, see image 8 & 9 Image 8: keystroke k, small + missing upper check mark image 9: keystroke u+k, completely correct, k should turn out just like the second character in this image Thanks for the hard work, sorry for being picky but these problems make the language hard to use in open office (and it is the 14th most used language on the planet :) ) Again, I'm willing to help, just need some guidance to begin with. ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- OpenOffice + telugu language https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346072] Re: solarwinds crashed with SIGFPE in vbo_exec_vtx_flush()
My patch above was sent to and accepted by the upstream rss-glx author, so we might consider applying it until we have it through an upstream release. When it comes to SRU, the rss-glx workaround is trivial, whereas we might be more cautious about touching the mesa libraries. -- solarwinds crashed with SIGFPE in vbo_exec_vtx_flush() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 343738] Re: vsftpd max username length too small
** Description changed: vsftpd has a max username length of 32, this is too small for a virtual hosting environment where the username is a user's e-mail address (if they have a long domain name etc...) This issue was patched in FC10 via their patch system and has been pulled into the new upstream 2.1 version, I'll attach a debdiff to this bug once it's created so I know the bug number. + + SRU Report (for Hardy) + - + + This bug's impact is (probably) mostly felt by users running Hardy as a + hosting server using vsftpd as their FTP server. Hosting servers + typically use either the domain name and/or e-mail address as the + username which can easily exceed the 32 character limit. + + This has been fixed in the current development version (Karmic - + 2.1.1~pre1-2ubuntu1) by syncing a later release of vsftpd from Debian + which has already applied this fix. A minimal patch to apply this fix + has previously been attached to this bug (LP343738-hardy.patch). + + TEST CASE: This bug can be reproduced by creating a username greater + than 32 characters then attempting to login with the unpatched vsftpd. + Upon upgrading to the patched vsftpd this login attempt should then + succeed. + + Looking at the patch regression seems unlikely (given the nature of the + change), however, the worst case outcomes I can see for regression are:- + + a) vsftpd stops working; or + b) An (unknown) underlying authentication mechanism requires vsftpd to reject usernames greater than 32 characters and hence breaks. + + I'm afraid I'm not sure how likely (b) is, however PAM can handle + usernames of such length. -- vsftpd max username length too small https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343738 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

sorry I must correct myself, actually the reboot occurs during execution of the command "/sbin/udevadm settle" just after the one I said before. thus if I write: echo BEFORE sleep 5 # Fix permissions and missing symlinks/programs for devices made in # initramfs, and catch up on everything we missed log_begin_msg "Loading hardware drivers..." /sbin/udevadm trigger echo IN_BETWEEN sleep 5 if /sbin/udevadm settle; then log_end_msg 0 else log_end_msg $? fi echo AFTER sleep 5 I will see BEFORE and IN_BETWEEN, but not AFTER -- 64-bit Intrepid automatic permanent reboot loop related to having exactly 4GB of memory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272530 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 311291] Re: unrar-free fails on all my rar-files
jordanwb, I don't think so, unrar-free only opens some rar files, though is the only free software which is able to open rar files. Try the freeware version of rar (sudo apt-get install unrar). Alternativaly, you can install p7zip with the rar pluging (sudo apt-get install p7zip-full p7zip-rar). You can, of course, use the commercial version of rar (sudo apt-get install rar) -but you must pay for legal use- and you can create rar files. Remember that unrar is not a free format, so I tink is a good idea to avoid its use. -- unrar-free fails on all my rar-files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311291 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 418470] [NEW] USB Gamepad detected as mouse (Speedlink 360 style)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev Hi ! My USB gamepad is controlling both the mouse pointer AND the joystick (in rrootage for instance) at the same time. To get it running at all I had to : - install xserver-xorg-input-joystick - copy acrux-usb-gamepad-8116.fdi to /etc/hal/fdi/policy (provided here : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Joystick_lshal_outputs_done ) - unplug and replug the joystick after the X server is loaded Those three steps are apparently mandatory otherwise nothing works. (the stick LED doesn't remain lit otherwise) Actually it raises several issues ! 1. the need for the the aforementioned steps 2. the need to unplug / replug 3. the fact that evdev seems to lock the controller and assign it as if it were a mouse Thanks a lot for reading this, cheers !
