[Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.

2009-06-22 Thread Thomas Pilarski
I am not sure, if it is related. I have the same problem with my
keyboard from time to time. Switching between desktops with CTRL+F1
during heavy I/O, the last running program opens many help windows.
Sometimes it stops only while pressing the F1 key again. It's like the
key was never released. Mostly ubuntu opens nearby ~100 help windows and
a hard shut-down is the only solution to use the computer again.

[Bug 390392] Re: regression - resume failure in Jaunty on Dell Latitude D820

2009-06-22 Thread James Abley
** Description changed:

I upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty today. Resume has not worked since
  then (tried 5 times).

I tried running the test script [1] - fails to resume.

The problem seen is that a resume attempt appears to happen, but the
screen remains black, intermittent light disk activity, unable to switch
to virtual terminal and keyboard input appears to be ignored.

This is a regression. Suspend / hibernate and resume were working fine
before the upgrade. I reported a previous problem when upgrading from
- hoary to intrepid, which was previously fixed by some update.
+ gutsy to hardy, which was previously fixed by some unknown update.

This bug is reproducible. It has failed to resume 5 out of 5 times.

  It worked before the upgrade.

No flashing CAPS or anything - the only time I've seen that is when I
upgraded the memory on the laptop and didn't seat the module properly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Re: [Bug 334809] Re: design problem? infinite wait for long queue

2009-06-22 Thread Steve Dodier
Hello people,

I worked on the libnotify plugin for Exaile (0.2 & 0.3, but well, they're
not stable yet). The behaviour described by Mark is really not difficult to
implement. You just have to use update() instead of creating new
notifications, it's nothing hard (but notification-daemon is a big failure
with update(). It doesn't really manage it properly).

Now about my point of view on developers who don't want to bother with these
"details", as much as bother with the whole interface design, well, they're
just gonna lose their users to other apps with less features but easier to
use and looking nicer with a desktop. Users don't want exclusively features,
they also expect some coherence between the apps (æsthetically, but also for
menus, keyboard shortcuts, etc), and if an app looks different, it's just
not used by the vast majority. Making one's app behave nicely in an aimed
desktop is just as important as making it work at all.

Cordially, SD.

PS : if anyone wanna test the plugin there is a bug on LP where it's
attached ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/exaile/+bug/332999 ). This isn't the
latest version but I'm waiting for Exaile to hit 0.3 before recoding it
properly.

[Bug 151890] Re: Clicking sound with USB microphone

2009-06-22 Thread vatbier
I got an answer at
http://forums.quickcamteam.net/showthread.php?tid=855&pid=3271#pid3271 :
Yes, someone was indeed looking at porting the code but it seems he abandoned
the project. So, it looks like for these older cameras people are stuck with
the click problem. With our newer cameras this has been fixed, however.

So this bug report may be closed.

Now the question for me is whether I want to spend 85 euros on a new
Logitech webcam...

[Bug 28835] Re: "Unmount" in volume right-click menu, is tech-speak and undiscoverable

2009-06-22 Thread David Stansby
** Description changed:

If I right click a removable device in computer:// there is an "Unmount
Volume" option. There's two issues with this:

  1) "Unmount" is a technical term users can not be anticipated to know
what means. "Remove safely" or something would probably be better.

  2) It is not easily discoverable. This is bad for two reasons:
- 2.1 - People does not necesarily know that a usb-stick should be
properly unmounted to ensure filesystem entegrity.
+ 2.1 - People does not necesarily know that a usb-stick should be
properly unmounted to ensure filesystem integrity.
2.2 - It is not possible to just eject a CD by pushing the eject button
on the drive.

I think the best solution for 2) is to add an Eject/Remove Safely icon
in the notification area, popping up a eject/remove safely dialog when
  clicked.

[Bug 259030] Re: Akregator does not remember its size after closing

2009-06-22 Thread Alex Stylianos
It seems that the size is ignored if you close the application to the
tray.

Workaround:
Set the size you want and -quit- the application. Don't just close it, quit it.
This way the size is saved.

[Bug 390504] Re: gnome-settings-daemon should keep its opinions about my disk management to itself

2009-06-22 Thread Chris Coulson
Steve,

This behaviour was just introduced in Karmic because this code was never
actually compiled in before, due to
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=584217. I'm currently doing
some work on this plugin to implement
http://live.gnome.org/LowDiskSpaceWarning. As part of that, I've already
made the thresholds configurable so you can globally disable the
warning. Perhaps you could add your thoughts to the spec though?

I am not sure. It is definitively quicker than the described way to set an
emblem. However, I think it is not very intuitive.

Please don't think of my original post as bug or problem. It is a
suggestion to improve Ubuntu/Nautilus. Since it is just my opinion, I
think, we should let the report opened for the moment, for further
discussion.

[Bug 363430] Re: "error, couldn't find SDL module from MLT, Kdenlive will not start untill you fix this"

2009-06-22 Thread Christopher Waid
i'm having this problem too-but it seems to be a little different on my
system. i have ubuntu 9.04 32 bit edition.

I installed kdenlive and ran the initial wizard that comes up. I tried
out kdenlive. I never rendered any video. Then I installed frei0r-
plugins. I played with some more video. I went to render and it didn't
work. I got the message about it being corrupted.

I couldn't figure out the problem for some time. I finally tried running
the config wizard from settings -> run config wizard. That is when I got
the message:

"error, couldn't find SDL module from MLT, Kdenlive will not start
untill you fix this"

So I searched the web for that message and came up here.

I tried what Guido suggested. Or I think I did-and it was a partial
work-around for me. It solved the inability to render-if I left out step
5. But I wasn't able to get frei0r-plugins reinstalled and have it work.

Here is exactly what I did:
1 uninstalled frei0r-plugins using synaptic
2 started kdenlive from applications -> audio and video
3 ran "run config wizard" from settings
4 closed kdenlive

If I open it again and try to render it works. If I follow step 5 and
reinstall frei0r-plugins with synaptic and then run kdenlive I end up
being unable to render-even if I try to run "run config wizard" after
the reinstall of the frei0r-plugins.

5 reinstall frei0r-plugins

[Bug 390556] [NEW] openssh-server dos regression in jaunty (oom_adj)

2009-06-22 Thread ksuehring
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: openssh-server

All child processes of openssh-server inherit the oom_adj value of -17
which makes the unkillable in low memory situation. Any user logged into
the machine via ssh can cause a kernel-panic by creating a process that
simply consumes memory.

I have reported this before for Hardy (Bug #293000). Upstream Debian
fixes were shipped in Intrepid, Jaunty has the problem again.

[Bug 390558] [NEW] Crashes all of plasma with no Internet connectivity

2009-06-22 Thread Samat Jain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widget-flickr

If one has plasma-widget-flickr on their plasma desktop and their
Internet connection is down, the plasmoid sometimes crashes all of
plasma when trying to update its image. If the connection is down when
plasma restarts, plasma crashes again (because the plasmoid tries to
fetch a new image on startup).

This is a known bug upstream[1] which has been claimed to have been
fixed in the latest version (0.5.2).

 [1]: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?action=content&content=94800

I compiled the Karmic version of plasma-widget-flickr (currently 0.5.2)
on my Jaunty system, and all crashes went away. A backport is probably
appropriate?

[Bug 372697] Re: sudo is slow in jaunty

Same problem, using T61.

I tried the solution that is listed on thinkwiki:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_enable_the_fingerprint_reader_with_ThinkFinger#Jaunty

You have to:
$ sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com
F2A12FABE936A7BBDC4EA33351DB180D1323E149

and add these repositories:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/jon-oberheide/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/jon-oberheide/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Then upgrade:
$ sudo apt-get install thinkfinger-tools libpam-thinkfinger

Now sometimes the issue is reproducible for me, sometimes not (queries
password fast, logs in fast).

2009-06-22 Thread Yann Lossouarn

@Alex French > If such a generic name is no longer defined, references to it in
discussion will be inconsistent.

Do you really think so ? Imagine we're on phone. If I want to tell you
to go to /home/alex (e.g.), I just have to tell you "Open the Places
menu, and select your folder". If there's an item called "Alex's
documents", it will be fine...

Another generic alternative, which would make sense, would be to go for
a... Windows cloning : "My documents".

[Bug 373782] Re: [jaunty] bug when umounting the root partition

2009-06-22 Thread Tamas Papp
I run into this bug yesterday. It was really annoying.

Accidently I typed 'umount /'. Then I reboototed the box and logon to it
again by ssh. Unfortunately I didn't check, that is was still not
rebooted, because apache was working (it's a server): I thought, it was
just up again.

Later my client called me, that postfix was not working due to some
operation not permitted and other strange failures.

I checked the logs, and ttys were killed, mysql were stopped (not
really, because the web pages still were using it successfully), when I
run 'reboot', but that's all.

It's absolutely a bug, please fix it. Even if it's possible, in 8.04 too.

Thank you.

With driver in ubuntu-proposed I have had no more freeze (the kind with
the only the mouse pointer working) but I had other kind of freeze. I've
upgraded the kernel to 2.6.30 and I don't have freezes since one week.

My solution: kernel 2.6.30 + intel drivers in jaunty-proposed.

[Bug 354913] Re: vboxnetflt: Multiple versions in DKMS. Unsure what to do. Resolve manually.

2009-06-22 Thread Stefano Travelli
Same issue here with VirtualBox 2.2.4 after a kernel upgrade.

I found that there was two version in /var/lib/dkms/vboxnetflt: 2.2.4
and 2.1.0.

I removed the wrong version /var/lib/dkms/vboxnetflt/2.1.0 and the
symlink that pointed to it. This solved the problem on vboxnetflt
startup.

Then I did:

sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

After that, VirtualBox works fine again.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 390564] [NEW] needs option to disable wireless when on wired network

2009-06-22 Thread Martin Emrich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have a feature request for NetworkManager: When connecting to a wired
network, there should be an option to automatically turn off wireless
(including the radio). Currently, the wireless connection stays on in
addition to the wired connection.

I'm aware of #262152, which seems to be about a real bug with routing.

[Bug 388593] Re: Wifi auto-connection asks for keyring password

2009-06-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
there is similar bugs about evolution asking for a keyring password, we
could move the nm passwords to a non secure keyring but that's just
delaying the issue you could as well ask the user to use a non secure
storage

[Bug 390566] [NEW] When composing new message, autosuggestion corrupts addresses

2009-06-22 Thread Koterpillar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When writing an address in "To:" field, using suggestions results in
corrupted names/addresses.

To reproduce:
Let's say addr...@example.com is stored in the address book as John Doe.
1. Open Evolution, click "New" to start composing message.
2. Type first letters of the contact address (for example, "addr").
3. When the suggestion box appears, press Enter.

Expected results:
"To:" field contains "John Doe ".

Actual results:
"To:" field contains "J, ohn Doe ".

Also, this does not happen when:
- You press down arrow and then Enter when suggestion box appears.
- You clear the "To:" field and start again.

[Bug 310178] Re: livetv freezes randomly

2009-06-22 Thread Frank.Verleun
Hi all,

I have the same problem, but the freezing is certainly not random.
It freezes when the program guide is changing program.

Maybe this helps to solve this bug.

Cheers,

Frank.
