[Bug 387179] [NEW] usability issue in quick connect

2009-06-15 Thread Sandeep
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tsclient

We are getting a lot of people in our office to start using Ubuntu - and
Terminal Services is an important part of it.

I have seen a lot of people expecting the following:
1. The Quick Connect dropdown has a list of saved profiles
2. When you select a particular profile from Quick Connect, the Logon Settings
section gets populated with the profile settings.
3. When you press connect, terminal services connects according to the logon
settings (which came from a saved profile)

4. With reference to Bug #160038 , the last N hosts connected to (but
not saved *explicitly* as a named profile) should still be available in
the Quick Connect dropdown, named as the IP address of the machine you
used. The explicitly saved profiles and the auto-saved last-n-hosts can
be separated by a separator.

5. Do NOT save passwords unless a checkbox ("Save Password?") is ticked.
This is to prevent a sysadmin temporarily using a machine to connect and
having the password saved.

I have had a lot of people being surprised when selection of a profile (#2
above) causes a connection to launch. These people are used to the way putty
handles profiles and it was very puzzling for them.

It would be great if these usability issues are addressed!

thanks.

[Bug 383613] Re: Please merge lcdproc 0.5.2-3 (universe) from Debian unstable

2009-06-15 Thread Thierry Carrez
Hey Michael,
Good work on reducing the delta, however I would still leave out the unused
gentoo patch since it's confusing to have it in patches/ while it is unused.
Forwarding that delta to Debian would make sense (if not already done).
If you agree, please resubmit a fixed debian-to-ubuntu.debdiff and I'll upload
it :)

[Bug 379593] Re: 3G sierra wireless card cannot connect. Driver Loads but unable to dial.

2009-06-15 Thread Bruce Wolfe
Hi Bejay, et. al.

I have a Fujitsu T2010 that has a built in Sierra MC8780 3G modem. Like
you worked fine in earlier versions now in 9.04 it doesn't.

Connects, logs in and then gets reset/closed.

I updated the Driver - but this did not resolve the NM issue. It did
however let me manually use pppd to connect. When comparing the logs for
NM vs. direct I noticed that direct uses /dev/ttyUSB0 for comms whilst
NM appears to be trying to use /dev/ttyUSB2 for comms. It would appear
that NM is trying to talk across the wrong device in my case, but at
this time I am not sure how to change NM's behaviour.

Can anybody help with this??

As a result - there appears to be a bug in the NM environment in
choosing the correct device.

I don't know if I actually needed to upgrade the driver, although the
Sierra site certainly implies it is necessary.

[Bug 355998] Re: usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

2009-06-15 Thread Martin Schwenke
OK, here's some better testing from me...

I used a different Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit system where I hadn't tested this
before. It has this sort of USB interface:

  00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2
EHCI Controller (rev 01)

The system is running up-to-date Jaunty with this kernel:

Linux spot 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux

My Sansa e260 has an extra 8GB Micro SDHC card. It is running the old
bootloader that boots into the original Sansa firmware when the device
is off and then the USB is plugged in. It is also running Rockbox
r20338-090317 - yes, that's from March... but it works... ;-)

For each state of my Ubuntu system (see below) I did 2 tests:

1. From e260 off: With the e260's power off, I plugged in the USB cable and let
the device boot into the original Sansa firmware. The expected result is
that
the filesystem on the built-in 4GB flash storage is mounted.

2. From e260 on: With the e260's power on, running Rockbox, I plugged in the
USB cable and Rockbox detected the USB connection. The expected result is
that the filesystems on both the built-in 4GB flash storage and the
additional
8GB Micro SDHC card are separately mounted. That is, I should see 2 mounted
   filesystems.

Tests:

1. Standard Jaunty system with no PPA packages.

Both tests fail. I don't see any log messages after:

usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

2. Jaunty system with my PPA packages, before reboot.

Both tests pass - both filesystems are mounted.

3. Jaunty system with my PPA packages, after reboot.

Both tests pass - both filesystems are mounted.

Notes:

* I'm running 32-bit Jaunty.

* I have not attempted to apply any other fixes for this bug including
configuration hacks involving modifications to or removal of:

 /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi

Logs for a successful test "from e260 on" look like this:

[Bug 387181] [NEW] [needs-packaging] ncview: a visual browser for netCDF format files

2009-06-15 Thread wlx
Public bug reported:

Ncview is a visual browser for netCDF format files. Typically you would
use ncview to get a quick and easy, push-button look at your netCDF
files. You can view simple movies of the data, view along various
dimensions, take a look at the actual data values, change color maps,
invert the data, etc. It runs on UNIX platforms under X11, R4 or higher.

+ More ideally, it would be best if the whole Jockey hook was ran in case

Now, i'm having a fatal error on 1 of my partition: "alloc magic is broken".
Googling around it , this error is related to grub-pc (troubles on debian &

I wish new version work better (availlable in Sid) and could be upgrade

On my personal machine. But I've got a bunch of other users who have
various related corruption issues and I'd like to see it resolved. I'm
not even installing 9.04 on any more machines, and 8.10 couldn't be

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46081 ***

I think there are several separate issues here. Niclas original issue is a
RTL81xx/Samba specific issue, duplicate of bug 46081, also mentionned here:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4889

Your issue is about bad performance of Samba in general compared to a
Windows client. If you want to track that, please open a new bug and
post your interesting benchmarking results there, so that we can rule
out the hardy/RTL81xx/CIFS usual suspects and make sure the discussion
isn't polluted by those. Btw, do you get bad performance using smbclient
? using kernel-based CIFS mounts ? Any regression from when SMBFS was
used instead of CIFS ?

[Bug 386538] Re: wesnoth 1.6 freeze + 100%CPU

2009-06-15 Thread Evgeni Golov
Hi,

your report is really incomplete. Could you at least provide what you did to
trigger the crash or freeze (both at the same time sounds unlikely).
A backtrace or a terminal output if any would be great too.

Thus marking Incomplete for now. Please set again to New as soon you
have some more information for us.

Regards
Evgeni

I can confirm this one,
I am running a hardy amd64 uptodate (2.6.24-24-xen), it crashes every time the
nfs4 server goes away for some reason (network outage, server restart,...)

rebooting the client is mandatory to get it back in a working state

[Bug 386929] Re: Evolution Contacts crash on PDA sync when using WebDAV source

2009-06-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 387189] [NEW] /dev/null corrupted (/dev/null.1)

2009-06-15 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

Since upgrade to jaunty I have problems with one desktop (9.04/amd-64).

The session was running for several hours/days and the screen-locker has locked
the terminal.
Login is not possible (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pam/+bug/270781).
The cause is that /dev/null is replaced with a "normal" file.
The original /dev/null is moved to /dev/null.1

This issue is intended to track down the cause which leads to the
corruption of the /dev/null device.

[Bug 371525] Re: laptop-mode crashes taking up 100% CPU with IOWait when polling for battery level is enabled

2009-06-15 Thread Tim Althoff
I have a problem which could be related to this issue.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on a Thinkpad x200s. After some minutes (also in idle,
when I'm not using the computer) processes spawn and spawn. This goes on until
there are like 2k-3k processes and the computer will hang (and I need to
"hard"reset it). You'll see in my attachments that "lm-polling-daem" and
"laptop-mode" are somehow related to this.
The attachments are outputs of "pstree -p" and are indexed by the number of
total processes (which i got from "top").

Which additional information/logs/etc can I provide?

[Bug 378643] Re: (Jaunty PPC) Xorg crashes at boot time -> bulletproof mode

2009-06-15 Thread Siddhartha Valmont
After further testing I reinstalled the following version that worked
successfully :

Debian Lenny 5.01
kernel2.6.26-2-powerpc64
xserver-xorg1:7.3+18
xserver-xorg-video-nv1:2.1.10-1

Ubuntu 8.04.1
kernel2.6.24-19 and 2.6.24-24
xserver-xorg1:7.3+10ubuntu10
xserver-xorg-video-nv1:2.1.8-1ubuntu1

Note : I installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 front the PPC desktop live CD and
everything worked out of the box.

In fact, the bug reported started to appear when I upgraded my
installation to 8.10 (and was still here on 9.04).

(I'll update the bug report...).

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

- I had a fully functional Ubuntu 8.10 installation on my PowerMac G5 4x2,5 GHz
with a Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 (driver nv).
- I upgraded to the 9.04 version with the update manager. When the computer
rebooted after the upgrade, I ended with Xorg in bulletproof mode (cf. the
Xorg.0.nv-driver.log). The Xorg log showed an error message about "No valid
MMIO address in PCI config space" and screen not found (same DVI monitor than
in 8.10).
+ I had a fully functional Ubuntu 8.04.1 installation on my PowerMac G5 4x2,5

I tried the nouveau driver in case of luck, but unfortunately I had another
error.

I made a final try by using the alternate 9.04 cd to format an re-
install in case of an error whole upgrading. But the error stays.

I have tried to hardcode the driver and force to ignore the EDID but the
error stay the same : Bulletproof mode with funky colors hardly
readable. I used the option login in console mode and try to fix the
conf. I am now posting this bug from the command line (lynx is the best
  friend of unlucky admins ^.^).

After trying to find on the ubuntuforums.org and by googling without
  success, I now to fill-in a bug.
