[Bug 332422] [NEW] System freezes for 30 sec when using Bespin

2009-02-21 Thread David Plumpton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When using the demo of Bespin the entire system freezes for 30 seconds
or more, and frequently.

To reproduce:
1) Start firefox
2) Go to https://bespin.mozilla.com/
3) Register
4) Look at demo

The graphics will lock up for about 30 seconds (mouse pointer still
moves). You can't get any response from firefox, or any window, or the
toolbar menus, and you can't even get a response from Ctrl+Alt+F1 to
switch to a shell. After a while it unfreezes but any activity on this
page will re-freeze constantly.

It's quite smooth using Firefox on Windows, sadly.

Ubuntu 8.10
Firefox 3.0.6

[Bug 332421] [NEW] KDE 4.2 causes a segfault in X

2009-02-21 Thread sagarp
Public bug reported:

I installed KDE 4.2 from the kbuntu.org ppa (http://ppa.launchpad.net
/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu). When I try to use it, however, it crashes
fairly soon after logging in. This happens at various times. One of the
times is when I click on a menu bar item. Xorg.log.old has the following
messages toward the end. There are a bunch of lines that look like X is
trying to guess my keyboard/mouse hardware, and then this:

I had the same problem but have found no solution. Except in my case,
some .flv files work and others don't. I can't find any obvious
difference between the ones that work and the ones that don't. What's
worse, mplayer doesn't convert .flv files anymore either!

Thank you for updating this bug with vital information. Usually I have
no problem determining the right package in a bug report, this is
somewhat specific case - this is really not a "classical" application,
where you can find the "Report a Problem", or even a "About this

[Bug 332425] [NEW] Sound 5.1

2009-02-21 Thread fox--malder
Public bug reported:

It would be desirable to inform on a problem with a conclusion of a
sound 5.1. I at all do not know as it is possible to achieve it. Tried
X-Fi a sound it is possible to include only separately, and to organise
a conclusion of a sound from all columns for some reason it is
impossible. Has tried C-media which precisely should work without
problems and here is not present. Forward and back channels work only,
and the subwoofer and the centre do not join. I hope in the following
versions Ubuntu all it will be corrected. And the present multichannel
sound 5.1 will join the button. As it has been made in Mandriva.

[Bug 332426] [NEW] Nautilus jams

2009-02-21 Thread Jorma S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I enter a specific directory Nautilus just jams. Uses all possible
cpu and must be killed to get rid of. After killing it returns to upper
level directory and works again in other sub directories. ls and dir
commands and Dolphin navigator are working ok in the same specific
directory where Nautilus jams.

Deleted .nautilus file in home directory and tried again but it did not
help.

Yesterday I made upgrade and great ammount of kde stuff was upgraded except

packages. Aptitude couldn't resolve this conflict.

[Bug 220964] Re: mozilla-js CFLAGS are unusable

2009-02-21 Thread Michel Briand
Comment:

I didn't find the equivalent of Debian libmozjs-dev in Ubuntu. Since I
do not need full xulrunner sources but only SpiderMonkey.

Furthermore full xulrunner CFLAGS provided by pkg-config have 2
drawbacks that makes my build to fail :

- include subdir stable and unstable (confusing)
- include an embedded expat.h (serious)

---
$ diff /usr/include/xulrunner-1.9/unstable/expat.h /usr/include/expat.h
986c986,987

< XMLPARSEAPI(const XML_Char*)
< MOZ_XML_GetMismatchedTag(XML_Parser parser);
< /* END MOZILLA CHANGE */
---
> #define XML_MICRO_VERSION 1

So to build FreeWRL package, I'm using libmozjs-dev (1.9.0.x) from
Debian stable.

And I install libmozjs1d (1.9.0.x) from Debian too, for runtime.

In configure.ac, thanks to Ian, we have :

[Bug 332430] [NEW] Atheros AR242 doesn't find any networks

2009-02-21 Thread Alendit
Public bug reported:

Hi,

got FSC U9200 here, with a Atheros AR242 wlan chip. The system sees the
card, lists it with iwconfig, but neither iwlist scanning nor Network

tried to compile madwifi by myself, but it didn't change anything

[Bug 77624] Re: [SRU] [hardy/gutsy] missing depends on libc6-dev

2009-02-21 Thread Andreas Wenning
I can confirm that the uploaded package works. Installing varnish
1.0.3-2  (w/o libc6-dev is installed) and varnish can't be started;
updating to the version in hardy-proposed pulls in libc6-dev and
starting varnish now works. varnish in itself is tested and works as
well.

[Bug 324808] Re: [Toshiba Satellite L300] suspend/resume problem

2009-02-21 Thread khiraly
I have installed the newest available pre-packaged kernel from here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.29-rc5/

uname -a
Linux lamagep 2.6.29-020629rc5-generic #020629rc5 SMP Sun Feb 15 18:53:03 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux

The resume symptoms is the same as before (the hdd led lights up for a second),
but it also produces a weird sound like trying to spin up the DVD-reader.
When I switch on the laptop it has this weird sound (just didnt notice before),
so it is definitly the dvd-reader.
Just when I switch on it spin up twice, but with resume it spin up only once,
and after nothing.

There is no hash matches in the dmesg this time. (I suspended with:
sync; echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace; pm-suspend )
The magic number:
[7.359471] Magic number: 13:187:827

I also attache the lsmod output and the full dmesg.

In my previous comment I forgot to add some more info to the device:15
directory:
cat /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/device:00/PNP0A08:00/device:14/device:15/path

\_SB_.PCI0.EXP3.PXS3

Any hint, how should I debug more? Im willing anything to try out, I buyed this
laptop to be a laptop.
(I carefully choosed all components be from intel. I had previously a laptop
with nvidia inside)

I do not use any restricted module on my system, so Im hoping I can find
the root of this problem with a bit of help.

[Bug 328438] Re: ubuntu hardy heron gnome hangs often

2009-02-21 Thread chrone
nope, i always disable desktop effects since it brings more performance
and less bug.

i found a way to fix this problem with disable the apm feature in
kernel. i added the "noapm" option in /boot/grub/menu.lst to the grub
defoptions and then do update-grub. voila, now the hang issues were gone
for couple of days until current.

Many thanks.
Checked Tools->Options->Language
Settings->Writing Aids->OpenOffice.org New Thesaurus->Edit

Shows installed but still not accessible from Tools->Language->Thesaurus
Shows as greyed out

Perhaps I should reload and see if that cures the problem.

[Bug 230749] Re: gnome-screensaver uses too much CPU

2009-02-21 Thread MMarking
Wow, I'm so happy I found this! I had exactly the same problems as you
with VLC and MythTV. I've been spending weeks on this issue blameing
everyone from MythTV, nvidia, Liferea, firefox, Xorg, and pulseaudio...
I even spent time swapping video cards and drivers. My eyes finally
opened up and realized that gnome-screensaver was the number 5 CPU time
on my system, and I don't even use a screensaver. "killall gnome-
screensaver" is the perfect interim solution to these Xorg CPU spike
problems. Thanks to all that reported, confirmed, and upstream fixed
it. Go Linux!!

In case anyone web searches for this problem in Myth, like I was trying
to do for 2 weeks, if you are having jerky playback in Myth (with Myth's
internal player) and see messages similar to the following when you run
"mythfronend -v playback":

NVP: Video is x. frames ahead of audio, doubling video frame
interval to slow down.

NVP: Video is x.x frames behind audio (too slow), dropping frame to
catch up.

If you use a nVidia card with the proprietary drivers, and you're
running Ubuntu with Gnome, then gnome-screensaver is actually what's
causing your problem. "killall gnome-screensaver" is your friend.

[Bug 332436] [NEW] Please sync openoffice.org-voikko 3.0.1-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2009-02-21 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-voikko

Please sync openoffice.org-voikko 3.0.1-2 (main) from Debian unstable
(main). This disables grammar checking which is not recommended yet for
general usage by the upstream. Additionally it removes Pre-Depends which
is not anymore needed (was for etch -> lenny) and is best avoided.

Changelog since current jaunty version 3.0.1-1:

 openoffice.org-voikko (3.0.1-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * Upload to unstable
   * Update copyright (GPL3 like it should be)

[Bug 330519] Re: The road to Monodevelop 2.0

2009-02-21 Thread directhex
I think I'm done with the three packages above, for now - i.e. until a
bug report lands on my desk from a user or upstream, or a more final
tarball is released. The three above cover all the MonoDevelop currently
found in the archive. I'm now looking at the plugins which are NEW -
monodevelop-vala, monodevelop-debugger-mdb and monodevelop-debugger-gdb.

Unless the release team has spotted something I haven't, I don't see any
major reason not to upload the three packages done so far.

[Bug 332440] [NEW] ath9k doesn't receive broadcast packets

2009-02-21 Thread Stefano Rivera
Public bug reported:

Hardware: MacBook 2.1
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR5008 Wireless Network
Adapter (rev 01)
Subsystem: Apple Computer Inc. Device 0087
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
Memory at b010 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities:
Kernel driver in use: ath9k
Kernel modules: ath9k

Using jaunty with linux-backports-modules' ath9k:
ii linux-backports-modules-2.6.2 2.6.28-8.6Ubuntu supplied
Linux modules for version 2.6.28 on x86/x86_64
ii linux-image-2.6.28-8-generic 2.6.28-8.22 Linux kernel
image for version 2.6.28 on x86/x86_64

Network tested on: 802.11g WPA2-PSK

When the wifi interface isn't in promiscuous mode, broadcast packets
aren't received. No errors reported, just no broadcast. This means that
one can make outgoing connections but can't reliably receive incoming
connections.

Turning on promiscuous mode results in these packets being received
again.

Steps to reproduce:
* Connect to a WiFi AP.
* Ping the network broadcast address from another machine (wired or wireless,
assuming the AP is bridging).
* Run tcpdump on the ath9k target machine, both with and without the "-p" flag.

Re: [Bug 331054] Re: Do not launch in background

2009-02-21 Thread Mark Shuttleworth

Bruce, as I said very clearly, what MacOS does is neither a
rationalization nor a justification for us doing what we do. Still,
it's useful information because it speaks to what may be familiar to
some users.

In the end, we are making changes because we think they are for the
best. I would ask you to be patient, and to try to tell the difference
between a bug, and a difference of opinion.

You may well be right, but the way to change our minds is by making a
considered case for the change you want. Start a discussion, gather
facts, make a case. I know you do a lot for Ubuntu and free software,
in part by filing bugs where things can be improved. That's much
appreciated by me and others. But it would be even better if we could
have these conversations in a good spirit, in the right forums.

[Bug 332443] Re: MacBook Pro 5, 1 bluetooth requires reset before it can be used

2009-02-21 Thread Alex Murray
Should have made it clear the patch is against the 2.6.27 kernel in
Intrepid. It should also apply cleanly against the current kernel in
Jaunty as well, although I haven't tested that yet.

pactl load-module module-bluetooth-device address=00:0D:3C:B0:1F:D1
sink_name=Bluetooth profile=a2dp
