[Bug 330353] Re: boot-up hangs at multiple stages

2009-02-18 Thread amanison
This is not just an Ubuntu issue. I have a HP Pavilion dv9500z, and this
problem during boot occurred with openSuse 11.1, and Centos 5.2 as well.
Somewhere between 2.6.18 and 2.6.24 the problem appeared, I think.
Something in the boot process is waiting for an event, and the keyboard
press supplies the kick. The fact that it seems to occur throughout the
first half of the boot may be significant, and it is a laptop issue.
Maybe, as noted above, it's a Compaq/HP issue. I also get the
"Clocksource tsc unstable" message, and the two issues seem to be
related.

[Bug 330910] [NEW] png generation fails when /var/log/bootchart does not exist

2009-02-18 Thread amedee
Public bug reported:

Release: I observed the problem in Intrepid and Jaunty.
Package (for Jaunty): bootchart (0.9-0ubuntu14)

When there is no /var/log/bootchart directory, bootchart fails to create a png
file inside this directory.
A possible condition for a non-existing /var/log/bootchart directory is when
/var/log is mounted as a tmpfs. This is a common configuration for netbooks
with a SSD. At each reboot, /var/log is wiped and of course the bootchart
subdirectory doesn't exist any more.

Suggested fix:
Add the following to /etc/init.d/stop-bootchart

 # Where we drop charts
 CHARTS="/var/log/bootchart"
+mkdir -p $CHARTS

Alternative fix:

 # Where we drop charts
 CHARTS="/var/log/bootchart"
+if [ ! -d $CHARTS ]; then
+mkdir -p $CHARTS
+fi

I leave it up to the package maintainer which of the two is the better solution.
It also doesn't matter when the directory is created, perhaps it is even better
to create it inside the start) case?
As long as it exists before java is called to create the png, it is ok.

I suppose that this problem also exists upstream.
Do I have to report it myself upstream, or will this be done automatically?

I'd try to ensure that the packaging is similar to what it was before,
it'll also help with getting the Debian bug fixed. :-)

[Bug 330916] [NEW] eee-control package

2009-02-18 Thread Aldo "xoen" Giambelluca
Public bug reported:

http://greg.geekmind.org/eee-control/

«eee-control is an easy-to-use utility that aims to be a one-stop
solution for all special Linux Eee PC needs. It allows you to configure
hardware and hotkeys, switch between performance levels (very much like
Asus' Super Hybrid Engine) and more.»

It would be beautiful to have this package into jaunty reposotories,
there are many Eee PC owners out there :).

[Bug 329821] Re: Keyboard not working when installing Jaunty alpha4 on macbook (5, 1)

2009-02-18 Thread Pablo Barroso Cubillas

Same situation for me on white Macbook 2,1.
Also with Jaunty Alpha3. Both Live and Alternate CD's.

I've tried noacpi, noapic, irqpoll, fb=false, with no luck.
I've checked the media is ok by booting different machines with same CD.

[Bug 330917] [NEW] configure fails on every arch other than i386 and amd64

2009-02-18 Thread directhex
Public bug reported:

There is a check in moon's configure script to see whether the platform
compiling the plugin has the Microsoft Media Pack available to it:
CODECS_SUPPORTED="no"
CODECS_ARCH_SUPPORTED="no"
CODECS_OS_SUPPORTED="no"

case "$host" in
i*86-*-*)
ARCH=x86
CODECS_ARCH_SUPPORTED="yes"
;;
x86_64-*-* | amd64-*-*)
ARCH=x64
CODECS_ARCH_SUPPORTED="yes"
;;
esac
case "$host" in
*-*-*linux*)
OSTYPE=linux
CODECS_OS_SUPPORTED="yes"
;;
esac

if test ${ARCH} = unknown; then
{ { echo "$as_me:$LINENO: error: The codecs have not been configured to
build on this architecture yet" >&5
echo "$as_me: error: The codecs have not been configured to build on this
architecture yet" >&2;}
   { (exit 1); exit 1; }; }
fi
if test ${OSTYPE} = unknown; then
{ { echo "$as_me:$LINENO: error: The codecs have not been configured to
build on this operating system yet" >&5
echo "$as_me: error: The codecs have not been configured to build on this
operating system yet" >&2;}
   { (exit 1); exit 1; }; }
fi

Unfortunately, this check causes moon to fail to build on non-x86ish
architectures, even when using --with-ffmpeg=yes.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Don't be on an x86 or amd64
2. Configure moonlight
Actual Results:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22777113/buildlog_ubuntu-jaunty-powerpc.moon_1.0-0ubuntu1_FAILEDTOBUILD.txt.gz

Expected Results:
Happy shiny compilation

Steps to reproduce the issue:

The way to reproduce the error is getting the latest tests and running (you
need bzr installed)

$ bzr branch lp:ubuntu-desktop-testing
$ cd ubuntu-desktop-testing
$  ./bin/ubuntu-desktop-tests -a seahorse

It should work in both Suse and Ubuntu.

The test opens seahorse and tries to create a PGP key. But when it enters the
passphrase, it crashes.

[Bug 330919] [NEW] Asus Eee PC 1000H support

2009-02-18 Thread Aldo "xoen" Giambelluca
Public bug reported:

I have an Asus Eee PC 1000H.
I've attached the output of dmidecode, probably it can be useful.
With Kubuntu 8.10 these things doesn't work :
* Wireless
* Hotkeys (acpi_listen see all hotkey presses)
  * Instant Keys doesn't work (I can't assign any of these keys from System
Settings -> Keyboard & Mouse)
  * WiFi hotkey (nothing happens)
  * Fn+F7, Fn+F8, Fn+F9 doesn't works (Fn+F8 should switch between LCD/External
monitor but it's seen like the VolumeUP key and change the volume of the PCM
channel, but the OSD shows always 0% ad volume :P!)
  * Audio Hotkeys (mute, volume up, volume down) doesn't work
* Overclocking/Downclocking (For this I need eee-control + some kernel modules).

I suggest you to visit these sites :
* http://wiki.eeeuser.com/getting_ubuntu_8.04_to_work_perfectly (A page with
many hacks to make ubuntu 8.04 works on Asus Eee PCs)
* http://array.org/ubuntu/features.html (The page of the eee-customized kernel)

2009-02-18 Thread Bernard Drapeau
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu 8.10 (Wubi) on a Compaq cq-50-135-em laptop.

I boot Ubuntu on the machine and the camera is always on.

I tried with Linux generic 2.6.27-7, Linux generic 2.6.27-11, Linux
generic 2.6.27-12

The problem appeared when I upgraded to 2.6.27-11. I could turn the
webcam on and off demand before the upgrade. I don't know if the bug is
linked to the kernel or a library (v4l2?)

uname -a:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-12-generic #1 SMP Thu Feb 5 09:26:35 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Hello,

Thanks for your action.

- yes it's every time the same comportment

to reproduce.
Day 1 - add a podcsat that update dayly ( like radio news)

Day two -
  launch rythmbox .
- view that no podcast update append
- if you right click on podcast - update alls feed- the news podcast
apears and start download.

It's look like, the update process dont start when the rythmbox start,
but manually it's ok.

Thanks a lot for your help.

[Bug 252160] Re: Upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 3 stops Nvidia driver working

2009-02-18 Thread Jason
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 251832 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251832

The bug this is a duplicate of, seems very vague, but this bug actually
demonstrated exactly what I'm experiencing:

sudo /etc/init.d/dkms_autoinstaller start
 * Running DKMS auto installation service for kernel 2.6.27-12-generic
 *  kqemu (1.3.0~pre11)...   [
FAIL]
 *  nvidia (177.82)...   [ FAIL
]
 *  vboxdrv (2.0.4)...   [FAIL
]
 *  virtualbox-ose-guest (2.0.4)...  [ FAIL
]

I upgraded my kernel from 2.6.27-11-generic to 2.6.27.11-generic. When I
attempted to build the kernel module manually with dkms, this is what
happened:

dkms build -m nvidia -v 177.82 -k 2.6.27-12-generic

Error! Your kernel source for kernel 2.6.27-12-generic cannot be found at
/lib/modules/2.6.27-12-generic/build or /lib/modules/2.6.27-12-generic/source.
You can use the --kernelsourcedir option to tell DKMS where it's located.

Looking at /lib/modules/2.6.27-12-generic/source gave me this:

ls /lib/modules/2.6.27-12-generic/
initrd  modules.dep  modules.ofmap modules.usbmap
kernel  modules.ieee1394map  modules.pcimapupdates
modules.alias   modules.inputmap modules.seriomap  volatile
modules.ccwmap  modules.isapnpmapmodules.symbols

Question: is there a directory that exists that has the source so I can
build this manually? I used a solution from a forum the last time this
happened, only I don't exactly remember the solution. I'm sorry if I'm
wrong about this being a duplicate!

[Bug 330927] [NEW] Intrepid: OpenOffice.org does not generate "ä" letter correctly and conver ts existing "ä" letters to "Per Mil" (using MgOpen Cosmetica)

2009-02-18 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

Test generated an OpenOffice.org Impress document using NeoOffice on
MacOSX and the MgOpen Cosmetica Font. Inserted the "ä" letter (Unicode
U+00E4). This was displayed ok.

Now testing with Ubuntu 8.10 64-Bit, OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 and ttf-mgopen
1.1-3, trying to insert new text into the existing document, again using
the letter "ä", Ubuntu inserts the "Per mil" symbol instead, but only in
some slides. Also, in some slides, "ä" letters that have been displayed
correctly in the past are displayed as "Per mil" now, too.

Strangely enough, when I copy this symbol from that faultily displayed
Impress document and paste it here, it becomes "ä", just as it should be
displayed in OpenOffice.org.

In some of the test slides this error does not occur. I can see no
system in when it occurs and when it does not.

Note that there has been an issue with this character in connection with
this font but I thought this was fixed
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-mgopen/+bug/120209).

[Bug 324469] Re: package xterm 235-1ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: package xterm is not ready for configuration

2009-02-18 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks Sgop for the log.

If the system is still in this state, could you please attach
/var/lib/dpkg/status and then run "sudo dpkg --configure -a" and "sudo
apt-get install -f" and attach the output. If it is not, could you
please attach your /var/log/apt/term.log ? Maybe it contains more
traces.

It looks like "xterm" is in trigger-awaited state at this point and then
it gets called with "dpkg --configure". Knowning what trigger is pending
would help me.

Thanks,
 Michael

[Bug 282655] Re: Changing volume with laptop key shortcuts and focus on second X screen causes short term crash

2009-02-18 Thread aefaradien
Hi there, i was going to report this bug also, then found it had already
been reported. So are a few more details.

- This only happens when i have metacity compositing enabled.
- I am also running 2 xscreens and getting the same issue.
- The attached screen shot shows before and just after i press the volume up
key when i have the second screen active (top half of screen shot is before,
bottom half is after).
- This does not happen when i have the first screen active.
- No "volume level" popup appears when i am on the second screen. (it appears
as expected on the first screen).
- This effect is completely reproducible - i can turn compositing on and off in
gconf-editor and see the issue start and stop.
- I am using hardy with restricted nvidia drivers.

i am happy to answers any further questions you may have and test fixes.

[Bug 330931] [NEW] Obsolete, remove from main and ubuntu-desktop

[Bug 330930] [NEW] package the amazon ec2-api-tools

It would be nice if Ubuntu packaged the Amazon EC2 API tools

[Bug 330936] [NEW] "Run a terminal" shortcut doesn't work under compiz

2009-02-18 Thread Matt Zimmerman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

My symptoms are similar to the old bug 139145. Since sometime in
Jaunty, my "Run a terminal" shortcut (currently F7) simply doesn't work.
The keystroke is passed through to the focused application. I've tried
changing the key binding, with no effect. If I switch to metacity with
metacity --replace, it works fine.

[Bug 330938] [NEW] Intrepid: SANYO NC-MDU01 Ni-MH Battery Charger does not work - no USB power provided?

2009-02-18 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

The NC-MDU01 is a battery charger that can be attached to a computer's
USB port. It works ok here when attached to a computer independent USB
power supply unit. It does, however, not charge when connected to one of
the two USB ports of a MacBook Pro 3rd gen. running a fully updated
Ubuntu 8.10 64-Bit.

I found this manual on the net:
http://us.sanyo.com/dynamic/product/Downloads/USB_Instruction_Manual-27295019.pdf.
I can supply additional information if you tell me which, but I will not
accept any responsibility or liability or anything like that (this
device deals with electricity, and electricity is dangerous).

The device is brand new.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 327674] Re: Please merge wordpress 2.7.1-2ubuntu1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-02-18 Thread Stefan Lesicnik
Sorry for hijacking this. I would like to get this in before FF and i worked on
the previous merge.
Using Pedro's updated patch, slightly cleaned up diff (I think we want to keep
debians root.www-data and permissions and not use www-data.www-data)

Debdiff for jaunty attached.

[Bug 148539] Re: bzr-builddeb should allow the inclusion of orig.tar.gz

2009-02-18 Thread James Westby
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 248640 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/248640

Hi,

I marked this as a duplicate of the more general complain, as I believe
this use case should be addressed by that fix.

  bzr builddeb -- -S -sa

should do what you want.

Thanks,

James

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 248640
