[Bug 173890] Re: flashplugin-nonfree fails to install due to md5sum mismatch

2008-12-18 Thread apaprocki
Since Adobe offers .deb packages directly, why can't they get set up as
an apt source and use a signed package instead of this download
mechanism? Wouldn't that fix this issue once and for all instead of
having to always have a period where users are broken whenever Adobe
bumps a version?

[Bug 268615] Re: [g45] No X display on laptop screen with Intel 4500MHD GMA graphics on Sony Vaio

2008-12-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Reviewing the patched file, it appears that this logic disables the else
clause in i830SetLVDSPanelPower(), which disables the logic for handling
when the display is powered off.

I believe this change would have a high likelihood of causing
regressions for some users. At the least it would require extensive
testing before it could be deployed.

[Bug 264881] Re: iwl3945 not able to associate with kernel 2.6.26 and 2.6.27

2008-12-18 Thread Rune Evjen
Leann,

Using kernel 2.6.27-7-generic I am affected by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294667 when installing the backport
modules, so I am unable with this kernel and backport module version.

Using kernel 2.6.27-9-generic the backport modules loads fine, but I
cannot associate with my AP as described in comment 1 and onwards of
this bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/264881/comments/1).

I have done some more testing on my laptop, and made the following observations:
- I am unable to associate with my AP using the Intrepid Live CD
- iwlist wlan0 scanning never lists my AP (but does list others, using both WEP
and WPA encryprtion as well as no encrpytion)
- A manual setup using wpasupplicant and /etc/network interfaces for key setup
is not successfull
- Using my AP, I am also not able to associate using no encryption.

With my USB Zydas device my computer connects fine using all 2.6.26 and
.27 kernels, but I did notice that after installing linux-backport-
modules on 2.6.27-9 I was not able connect with the Zydas device. After
removing backport-modules and rebooting I could connect with the Zydas
device but not the integrated iwl3945 chipset.

[Bug 44942] Re: If one clicks a second link when firefox is opening, they get an error

2008-12-18 Thread Mysha
Hi,
45756 is not an exact duplicate, as it indicates a more general case than just
opening from a link. But we can add that to this one, of course: Starting up an
instance of Firefox when there's another, non-active instance, will always
block, without a way to continue.

* Start up two instances from a menu or dock - same effect.
* Close down one instance, realise you forgot something, and start a new
instance - same effect.

Other software may have dialog boxes up that they close again when the
reported status changes. It's like FireFox doesn't test for such a
change. It seems to note another instance, and then to initiate
communications with that instance. From that point on it just sits
waiting until it times out.

A quick fix would be to add a retry button to the dialog box, so it
could be made to check again, and now find either the other instance had
disappeared or could actually accept communications. The real fix would
probably be to have it recheck the other instance after the time out,
and have it retry even after putting up the dialog box. (Not to mention
that inter-instances communication ought to be very early on start-up
and very late on shut-down.)

And considering that this is an error I encounter daily, I'd like to
offer the opinion that status LOW is not all that high.

(I don't have the time to figure it out, but would some kind soul report
that I didn't get this bug listed under my bugreports? Apparently
because it only lists bugs you're involved in but doesn't list
duplicates. I wasn't directly involved in this one, and 45756, that I
reported, is now a duplicate. The result was that neither showed up.)

[Bug 297461] Re: Panel Clock Freezes

2008-12-18 Thread ThomasNovin
Now my clock has stopped. I have also lost all my icons in the
notification area. They are still there, I can get mouseover tooltips
and clicking on them works. If I open the clock applet the current time
is running.

Doing a 'killall gnome-panel' restarts the whole gnome-panel and gets it
working again.

[Bug 275111] Re: knetworkmanager fails to start OpenVPN tunnel

The same here on kubuntu intrepid:

connection_state_changed(): Message did not receive a reply (timeout by
message bus)

Any chance to get this fixed? I need openvpn for doing my job and I would
prefer to have knetworkmanager take care of it.

I don't know when exactly it was fixed. But I can confirm - in my ubuntu
same pdf document is now correctly displayed after rotation. Maybe it
has something to do with installation adobe reader 8 (I was forced to do
that)?

[Bug 108553] Re: mdadm SEGFAULT

2008-12-18 Thread Mark
For what it is worth i'll add a me too.

Using mdadm RAID 1 (mirroring) a pair of drives both samsungs drives are
on seperate IDE channels (one on primary one on secondary). mdadm
configured under 8.04.

While its not nice to paste directly it heaps easier then having to open
attachements, so here goes a snip of the relevant dmesg .

[Bug 309293] [NEW] after upgrade cannot print anymor from certain applications

2008-12-18 Thread tictric
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu intrepid on i386

I noticed that some cups packages and gs got updated. Security updates I think

After that I could not print anymore from e.g. OpenOffice.org and Okular and

Printing from Firefox works though.
Printing Testpage from localhost:631 works also
Printing Testpage from printer manager works too

Why is this low priority?

The issue still persists with IPP=1.

[Bug 262309] Re: kgrubeditor MIR

2008-12-18 Thread Loïc Minier
I wonder a couple of things on this MIR:
- "process apt data": I grepped the source on apt and didn't find anything
relevant; is this true? Perhaps a leftover from copying a MIR of another
package?
- I see the package handles the "DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST" block, but it
doesn't call update-grub; I suspect it tries to update generated data itself;
this doesn't sound right as its current behavior might not be aligned with
update-grub's and it might derive even more if we change update-grub (e.g.
"last good boot"); what do you think?
- Ubuntu uses the "uuid" command in menu.lst on new installs to select the root
device; I don't think this command is handled, only "root" seems to be handled
- does the tool support GRUB2 in degradated mode, or not at all? Will it
support GRUB2? We had discussions about supporting GRUB2 at UDS, and we'd like
to offer it as an option during installation on jaunty -- NB: I think it would
be good enough if kgrubeditor were to claim that it can't edit GRUB2's
configuration when an user running GRUB2 tries to open the config

[Bug 262974] Re: [MASTER] networkmanager display connections twice in intrepid

2008-12-18 Thread Michael
It still sounds a bit radical. Basically dkms is causing an additional
add event to be sent for every device in the system. What are the
benefits for the user? The disadvantages seem to be clear, as hal's
device database is messed up, along with anything that depends on it (in
this case, the network manager applet). And this for a situation in
which nothing was even added to the system. Perhaps just restarting hal
would be good enough? Then its database would be up-to-date. I don't
think that hotplug events are absolutely necessary in this case.
Alternatively (and more difficult) one could try to work out which
devices had changed in sysfs and only trigger event replay for those
(although one should probably find some way to get "remove" events for
them before the "add" ones get sent).

By the way, I did some quick (random) checking, and udevtrigger also
messes up the hal database in Ubuntu 8.04, and in Fedora 8. In Fedora 8
it also messes up networking. I really don't think that this command is
intended to be used once the system is up and running.

[Bug 249661] Re: [needs-packaging] Aldrin - Modular Synthesiser based on Buzz

2008-12-18 Thread Guillaume Duveau
Hello,

The code has moved to : http://www.bitbucket.org/paniq/aldrin/src/
Aldrin needs also the Armstrong library which is here :
http://www.bitbucket.org/paniq/armstrong/

Tree MendUs, what did you mean by "Not packaged" ? Both Aldrin and
Armstrong have official releases*. And there are some packages available
for Ubuntu, although they are not included in the repositories.

* The official releases are old. But the development versions
(accessible with mercury) are VERY stable. I think some packages in
Ubuntu are from CVS builds, so do you think it would be possible to
include latest hg builds in Ubuntu (not saying you should do it, I'm
ready to fly into this).

[Bug 309295] [NEW] Screen artefacts when scrolling

2008-12-18 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-177

If I scroll a long page in Firefox using the scroll bar on the right,
(but usually not when using the space bar), the screen gets incompletely
refreshed.

Ironically, attempting to get a screen shot with Alt+PrtScr redraws the
screen so the artefacts disappear. I managed to get a picture by using
the delay function in the screenshot accessory, then scrolling just
after clicking on the button.

This is amd64 with the restricted nvidia driver, up-to-date Intrepid.

I get these errors in Firefox (probably the only graphical program I use
much -- it's mostly xterm and Emacs for me) and EOG for example, but
wasn't able to get them in Thunderbird.

[Bug 281348] Re: Firefox only shows default icons in toolbars with tabmixplus and ubufox installed

2008-12-18 Thread theLured
Hello I think I have a solution.
disable both"Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" or "Tab Mix Plus" addons.
restart Firefox

If you still have no toolbars
Close Firefox
Go to /home/your-username/.mozilla/firefox/some-jibberish.default/
In here rename your localstore.rdf to localstore.rdf.backup

Start Firefox and you should be able to see your extensions. You will
have to set up your appearance again though. And only have either
"Ubuntu Firefox Modifications" or "Tab Mix Plus" enabled.

[Bug 295251] Re: Samsung NC10 brightness keys block keyboard and produce all-or-nothing effect

2008-12-18 Thread Stuart Hopkins
The patch on the kernel bugzilla fixes the key release problem, I know
this as I wrote it. It fixes all of the key releases, allowing them to
be mapped by HAL correctly. There was mention of it being included in a
hotkey file (still can't find the page link)

As for the scancodes, there is an attachment on the kernel bugzilla that
lists all of the codes that the Fn keys produce. This will be what the
hal team are after for the mappings. The list can be found at
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=19300

If I get a chance I will look into the HAL config to see if I can create
a quick patch to fix it. It still remains an issue though about
unpatched kernels having the correct scancodes, as the keys would repeat
to infinity (not a good idea when turning wireless on/off etc)

There should be three headers files there, one for i386, one for amd64,
and one for 'all'. You would need both the 'all' and the appropriate
architecture one. They are needed if you have binary drivers such as
nvidia drivers under DKMS.

3) The junk folder doesn't contain any emails, I would expect that the Junk
count is 0 (zero)
4) the Junk count is 5 insteed, see screenshot "invalid_junk_count.jpg"

If I deselect the option "View / Hide Deleted Messages", the junk folder
show 5 deleted emails. So the problem is, I think, the junk count
doesn't consider deleted messages.

[Bug 309299] [NEW] Removable drive safe to remove even if another partition is mounted

2008-12-18 Thread Martin Emrich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have an external USB hard disk with 2 partitions (1 NTFS, 1 ext3).
When I unmount one of them in nautilus (Clicking the orange eject icon),

partition is still mounted. This affects of course only external storage
devices with more than one partition.

OS is Ubuntu 8.10 i386, the disk is a Western Digital MyPassport

Hmmm thats interesting. Could you confirm the system name as listed on
the bottom. Mine is specifically called a stupid 1537 but it has a
different set of Subsystem id's than yours.

My studio 1537:

Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:029f]

Your system:

Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:02a0]

If you could confirm the official name of the machine that would be
helpful.

[Bug 309212] Re: X crash: (WW) intel(0): Existing errors found in hardware state.

2008-12-18 Thread Piraja
I reproduced the error, and wrote down the error message this time —
here's the essential part:

(EE)intel(0): [dri] I830CheckDRIAvailable failed because of a version
mismatch.

After this, if I choose to continue in low graphics mode (one of the
options offered), Ubuntu nevertheless fails to restart the session in
due time: all I get is a blank (black) screen, and I even cannot use
Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or any F... key, for that matter) or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace,
even Ctrl+Alt+Del did not seem to work, even though the keyboard's not
dead (NumLock lights up and Ctrl+Alt+Del produces a beep) and I had to
hard-reset.

εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες νέες λέξεις.

Η έκδοση για openoffice θα βγει αργότερα.

Μικρό quote από το README που συνοδεύει τη νέα έκδοση:
