[Bug 90521] Re: LGeneral needs data files

2008-10-30 Thread Victor Sergienko
LGeneral has couple of mods submitted by users, including graphics and
campaigns.
Graphics are paper-style, which is ugly, but could be installed by default.
I'm thinking about "civwar" mod.

This will help a LOT of users: not everyone comes to successful run of
lgc-pg. I believe this great game loses not less then 90% users who
can't launch it out-of-box.

[Bug 290986] [NEW] Connecting to WPA-ENTEPRISE network 1) removes info about CA cert 2) kills nm-applet

2008-10-30 Thread Devgru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I've got:
- university; :)
- wi-fi:
WPA-Enterprise encryption
MSCHAPv2

static IP and DNS, no DHCP
CA cert

What happened:

1) I've added network (with all settings, including cert;
2) Trying to connect to hidden network.Selecting config.
First bug: no cert is entered (but I've selected one earlier)
3) It asks me about cert: "you'ven't specified it, so select it now or ignore".
4) I click on button to select, but no dialog appears.
5) nm-applet aborts self.

In console:

[Bug 290987] [NEW] Tracker could not index .doc files by default (Intrepid)

2008-10-30 Thread Ronny Becker
Public bug reported:

In Intrepid - by default - tracker is not able to index (fulltext) .doc
Documents because elinks is not installed. So the package dependency is
not correct and has to be updated. You won`t get any error messages -
only on debug mode you get a hint, but it says that the text could not
be converted to utf8. If you try the msword filter on command line, you
get the hint that elinks is missing.

With elinks installed .doc Documents are indexed and searchable.

Hi Thom,

You might have been seeing bug 263059 which was resolved with a

Can anyone else here comment if this is still an issue with Intrepid
since it's set to be released today. rsidd, since you're the original
bug reporter it would be great to get your feedback. Thanks.

[Bug 290990] [NEW] [intrepid] Multimedia keys don't work if xfce-mcs-manager is not installed

2008-10-30 Thread Adolfo González Blázquez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-mixer

I've used to use xfce4-panel with the xfce4-mixer applet in my Openbox
Hardy configuration, and multimedia keys worked perfectly. And now, in
Intrepid, I need xfce-mcs-manager for the multimedia keys to work.

Maybe xfce4-mixer should depend on xfce-mcs-manager.

[Bug 254438] Re: realtek RTL8187B wireless card does not work on toshiba satellite A210-15J

2008-10-30 Thread asmerm
Drivers provided from Realtek freeze every 64-bit distro. On 32-bit distros
drivers are OK.
However, in 2.6.27 kernel RTL8187B is autodetected (out of box on Ubuntu 8.10).
I haven't tested wireless connection, but when wireless networks are available,
network manager pops out with message if you want to connect and it has signal
strength indicator. Cool!

[Bug 290716] Re: [CVE 2008-468[1-5] - Wireshark up to 1.0.3 affected by multiple security vulnerabilities

2008-10-30 Thread Stefan Lesicnik
As per the CVE's. All releases up to 1.0.3 are affected by these bugs.
These POC are taken from the original wireshark bug tracker and just
renamed to easier identify which belongs to which CVE.

All of these bugs were always reproducible, except for CVE_2008-4685
which happened intermittently.

I also built a test build to remove wiresharks memory overflow and
underflow detection and protection routine as some of these are actually
trapped there. More details:
http://wiki.wireshark.org/Development/Canary

To reproduce (tested on current Intrepid version 1.0.3 - will test
others)

For each test with EP_DEBUG_FREE and SE_DEBUG_FREE defined.

- 2008-4680 - Open the attached .pcap file.
- 2008-4681 - Open the attached .pcap file.
- 2008-4682 - Open the attached .ncf file.
- 2008-4683 - Open the attached .pcap file twice.
- 2008-4684 - Open the attached .pcap file.
Click Analyze - Enabled Protocols - Disable all
protocols - Apply - Ok
Click Analyze - Enabled Protocols - Enable all
protocols - Apply - Ok
- 2008-4685 - This crash was intermittent. Ensure packet colourization is on.
Open the main .pcap file, open the 1 and 2 version. And then the main again.
Sometimes would crash. From the author of the patch - "Still, it's a dangling
pointer we're dealing with here, so it may all come down to the specifics of
the platform and compiler as to how the bug hits" - More details can be found
here - https://bugs.wireshark.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2870

After this error occured, wireless would stop working :
- iwlist wlan0 scanning returns no result or complains about device down
- ifconfig wlan0 up says device not available
- network manager applet shows no available network

rebooting doesn't fix the problem; shutdown and cold startup required.
This error most often occures when connecting to WPA2 network. In my case, I'm
using
- linux-backports-modules-2.6.27-7-generic 2.6.27-7.4
- network-manager 0.6.6-0ubuntu5 (from hardy, needed due to wireless settings)
- WPA2 Enterprise/PEAP/GTC

Connecting to non-encrypted networks works fine.

I installed the tuxpaint packages form intrepid and yes, it corrects the

The only thing is, by default the new installation has printing
disabled. So I had to download the tuxpaint-config package from
universe, enable printing on a system-wide basis and then printing
worked alright!

What about a backport?

[Bug 222602] Re: cupsys doesn't process postscript features

2008-10-30 Thread Till Kamppeter
Usually the CUPS filter which converts PostScript into another format
(for most drivers pstoraster or foomatic-rip) is supposed to read out
the option settings embedded in the PostScript data stream. For the HP
Photosmart C6180 the foomatic-rip filter is used and therefore the
problem does not occur. For the Brother printers Brother's proprietary
drivers are used. The CUPS wrappers (/usr/lib/cups/filter/brlpd*) do not
read option settings from the PostScript input stream. The filters
/usr/Brother/lpd/filter* and /usr/Brother/lpd/psconvert* pass the
PostScript inout directly into Ghostscript, without parsing option
settings which are embedded. So all embedded options without active
PostScript code to control Ghostscript get ignored. This is a bug in
Brother's drivers.

There is definitely no CUPS bug.

[Bug 290691] Re: mnemosyne causes cpu usage in pulseaudio

2008-10-30 Thread marmuta
Hi, thanks for answering so quickly :)

When I run it with alsa the cpu usage just shifts to mnemosyne (on a
Intrepid RC live cd):

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ pulseaudio -k
W: ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to find original dlopen loader.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa mnemosyne&

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Looking at the sources, pygame.mixer.init always opens an SDL mixer
stream. I think this is by design, rather than a bug, since games have
something to play most of the time. Whereas Mnemosyne sits mostly idle
(ok, does so for me ;), only occasionally playing a single sound.

I'm wondering if it could open the mixer just when needed and then shut
it down again after playback is done? Or maybe late init the mixer on
first playback and close it a minute after the last one?

[Bug 290995] [NEW] setting http proxy directly via gconf no longer works

2008-10-30 Thread Angryziber
Public bug reported:

Starting from intrepid, http proxy settings cannot be enabled using
either gconf-editor or gconftool-2.

You can modify any of the /system/http_proxy/* values and they got
reflected immediately in the gnome-network-preferences, except for the
/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy - setting this from outside of the
gnome-network-preferences has no effect, so no applications pick the
newly set values.

However, when using the radio buttons in the gnome-network-preferences
to enable/disable the proxy, the /system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy gets
properly enabled/disabled in the gconf-editor. It appears that gnome-
network-preferences has started doing something else itself to enable
the proxy that is not done when the setting is changed by other
programs.

Intrepid regression: it is not possible to enable/disable proxy from the
command-line anymore, e.g. with a NetworkManager dispatch script.

[Bug 291000] [NEW] xscreensaver has appeared in System Tools menu

2008-10-30 Thread Matthew East
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xscreensaver

With a recent update in Intrepid, there is a new menu entry in
"Applications -> System Tools" called "XScreenSaver Setup".

This is the only item in System Tools; because System Tools isn't used
as a menu in Ubuntu. The change constitutes a UI freeze break, which as
far as I can see wasn't notified to the documentation team as required.

The menu entry should be removed, or moved to Applications ->
Accessories or System -> Preferences.

[Bug 290931] Re: KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel

2008-10-30 Thread Owen Tuz
Afraid not - I've tried adding and removing all the widgets, but my
problem is that some of them take up more space than they need to - a
slightly dodgy illustration would be that the system tray is this big

|--|

but it takes up this much space on the panel (which, when moving it, can
be seen as a highlighted space around it)

||

The clock's even worse.

At the moment I've got an application launcher, task manager and system
tray which work together fairly happily, but I have no space to add
anything else.

This bug is still not fixed in Intrepid. Even worse, it's impossible to
boot with 2.6.27, because busybox is started before kernel finishes
initialisation.
