[Bug 286824] [NEW] Evtouch makes touchpad unusable

2008-10-21 Thread Jan Merka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch

On my laptop Panasonic Toughbook CF-29, the touchpad is unusable when
the evtouch driver is enabled in xorg.conf. However, without the evtouch
driver, the touchscreen does not report touch events so I would really
like to have both touchpad and touchscreen. The mouse cursor does not
move at all when using the touchpad or sort of jumps immediately back to
its original position, it looks like it were jumping 10-20 pixels in the
direction of the move and than back.

The system is currently Kubuntu 8.04.01 fully up to date and the problem
occurred after an upgrade from 7.10. I have tried all sorts of changes
in xorg.conf without success.

The current config is attached.

The 'xinput list' command outputs the following about the touchpad:

"Touchpad" id=5[XExtensionPointer]
Num_buttons is 9
Num_axes is 2
Mode is Relative
Motion_buffer is 256
Axis 0 :
Min_value is -1
Max_value is -1
Resolution is 1
Axis 1 :
Min_value is -1
Max_value is -1
Resolution is 1

'xinput test Touchpad' reports events when I touch the pad, it also
correctly reports button presses.

Does that only affect upgrades for people who enabled the DarkRoom theme
while the package with the broken name was in the archive? Then it
wouldn't really be RC, we just tell them to select the theme again.

[Bug 286826] [NEW] Can’t install third p arty theme in ubuntu 8.10 beta

2008-10-21 Thread jahin
Public bug reported:

In ubuntu 8.10 beta they installed dark themes. I don’t personally like them
Well I liked the third party themes in the past but that asks for ubuntu looks.
By default Gtk engine is not installed.
To install that I need to remove few packages including ubuntu desktop.
Now ubuntu desktop helps to ensure proper upgrades. So that is not an option.
Any one has answer what should I do?

[Bug 284443] Re: Encrypted Private Directory is not automatically mounted when using gdm auto-login

2008-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
I don't think it makes sense at all in gdm:

 - You do not actually "see" gdm if you have autologin enabled.
 - Once you installed your system that way, the damage is done.

IMHO it should be pointed out right at the place when the user can still
do something about it to not break it: The autologin and ecryptfs
options should mutually exclude themselves in the installer.

Ideally, if you create an ecryptfs with command line tools in an
installed system, it would point out that it doesn't work with
autologin, but that would encode gdm specific knowledge into the
scripts, so we should avoid that. It could just generally tell the user
about it.

But it is totally doable in the installer.

[Bug 286828] [NEW] CIFS share broken after upgrade from 8.04 -> 8.10

2008-10-21 Thread Eskild Hustvedt
Public bug reported:

Expected results:
CIFS mounts keeps working after upgrade.

Results:
After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 (roughly one week ago, on the 23rd of Oct 08)
using update-manager -d my CIFS mounts stopped working properly. I did not
change any settings between them, and I have another machine on this network
that is still running 8.04 and that doesn't have any problems.

They mount fine, and I can, with some effort, copy and read files from it
(though I have to do it manually, as many programs will whine). As an example
(here /mnt/diverse is my cifs mountpoint, mounted from a MyBook network drive):

The same commands, on the same mount on the 8.04 machine works perfectly
fine. It also worked fine on this (8.10) machine before the upgrade.

[Bug 250400] Re: make-ssl-cert fails if HOME is unset or empty

2008-10-21 Thread stiV
if the make-ssl-cert script does not get changed this needs to be
checked on other packages too (so they use /dev/urandom and not the
homedir)

for the moment i think apache2 has a ssleay.cnf which uses the homedir

[Bug 286836] [NEW] OpenVPN configuration assigns duplicate addresses

2008-10-21 Thread Cobi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

When connecting to an OpenVPN VPN with NetworkManager, two duplicate IP
addresses with only different netmasks are assigned to the tunnel
interface. Output of ip addr show dev tun0 is as follows:

4: tun0: mtu 1412 qdisc pfifo_fast
qlen 100
link/[65534]
inet 192.168.11.26 peer 192.168.11.25/32 scope global tun0
inet 192.168.11.26 peer 192.168.11.25/24 scope global tun0

This breaks some packages such as sofia-sip when they try to glob bind to all
addresses on the system which results in "Address already in use" errors.

I've recently upgraded to the Intrepid beta (from Gutsy), and it seems

Rather annoying, because the link's state goes from up to down to up

[Bug 95444] Re: No Screen Backlight Control; Sony Vaio with nvidia 8 series graphics

2008-10-21 Thread kiloxxx
Really a great news!!!
I've just installed the hacked version of nvclock and after "nvclock -S 50" the
brightness in now set to 50%!
Unfortunately it worked just one time, if I try to change again the brightness
it gives to me:

Error!
Smartdimmer is only supported on certain laptops using a Geforce 6200/7x00Go.
If you want support on your laptop contact the author.

and it doesn't change nothing (I don't think the error message is related
because I could see it also the first time).
The only way to restore brightness is to reboot my laptop, then "nvclock -S 50"
works again, but just for one time.
Any idea?

[Bug 286846] [NEW] harddrive spins down when it shouldn't in laptop-mode

2008-10-21 Thread krlhc8
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools

I'm beta testing Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex with kernel version 2.6.27-7.

In laptop-mode.conf, the hdparm -B value is set to 128 therefore the
harddrive should apply power regulation without spinning down the
harddrive, which it has done in the past until recent Ibex upgrades.
This could be a bug in the kernel not interfacing with the harddrive
correctly since hdparm -I /etc/sda1 indicates that hdparm -B is indeed
set to 128 (and not 0 through 127, which would elicit spindown).

[Bug 284852] Re: intrepid reproducible hard lockup during boot (regression from 2.6.27-6-generic)

2008-10-21 Thread Matthias Andree
Hi Leann,

reading through about 1/2 of the symptoms there, and given that I have
had few reboots and could manage to boot if stopping the output with
Ctrl+S and Ctrl+Q, this bug may actually be a duplicate of 263059;
usually my machine locked up with 100% CPU at least on one of the two
cores (i. e. CPU fans spinning up) after printing some iwl3945 related
messages.

I had been using -7.11 and -7.10; -7.12 was only recently installed,
I'll try some -7.12 boots and follow up after that.

[Bug 258083] Re: F-Spot - Error connecting to camera. "Could not lock the device"

2008-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, the bug fix is discussed at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=551803 .

So apparently the current fix in Intrepid does not work for some cases.
Please do the following:

- plug in your camera
- ignore or close the dialog that pops up asking you for which action to take
(F-Spot/open in file browser)
- open a Terminal window and do

gvfs-mount -l

and copy & paste the output from that command.

There should be a line which resembles the following:

Mount(0): Canon, Inc. PowerShot A70 (ptp) ->
gphoto2://[usb:005,007]/

Now do this command:

  $ sh -ex /usr/bin/f-spot-import gphoto2://[usb:005,007]/

Please use the URL that "gvfs-mount -l" reported above, of course. Close
f-spot again immediately, and copy&paste the output again. Thanks!

[Bug 286852] [NEW] Gives wrong traffic info. when selecting the preference bits instead of bytes

2008-10-21 Thread Shirish Agarwal
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

Show bits instead of bytes

Selecting that preferences shows wrong info.

[Bug 286310] Re: Fan full speed on Dell D630C After Upgrade 8.04 to 8.10 Beta

2008-10-21 Thread Tim
Hi all,

Yesterday i tried to reproduce the problem with a clean installation of
Ubuntu 8.10 Beta. After installing all the packages still no problem
with the Fan. so i tried something else:

Installed ubuntu 8.04 (latest packages /updates) then upgrade to 8.10 beta,
problem is back. Fan goings spinning full speed and after a while it goes in a
sequence (4 sec full speed - 1 sec stop). Today i tried to see what is
different and where the problem can be.. I noticed a NVIDIA driver
177.80-0Ubuntu2, in Ubuntu 8.10 by default? I downgraded this driver to:
173.14.12-1-0Ubuntu4 and the problem is gone.

Formatted my laptop again. Installed ubuntu 8.10 beta downloaded latest
upgrades, installed nvidia 177.80-0Ubuntu2 and the problem is back
again. Downgraded again and the problem is gone.

Thought this can be some help in solving the issue.

So, dont know if the problem is in the nvidia driver, or Ubuntu having
problems with the driver. But something there is going wrong ;).

Greetings,

Tim Oude Wolbers

ps, sorry for the type/spell mistakes...

Looks like it doesn't get run in 90consolekit at all:

if [ -z "$XDG_SESSION_COOKIE" ] && [ -x "$CK_LAUNCH_SESSION" ]; then

And here is the environment at the time of 90consolekit:

DISPLAY=:0

[Bug 284911] Re: KOrganizer crashes when Groupwise Resource is active

2008-10-21 Thread Alexander J. Trentini
Replacing the "korganizer" package alone with the one you kindly provided,
unfortunately doesn't fix the problem. Symptoms are the same. Should i try
replacing all kdepim3.5.10 related packages anyway?
Apart from that is there any other way i can help track down the problem
further "on my end"?
