[Bug 271224] [NEW] printing evolution attachment (read-only) fails

2008-09-17 Thread Goswin
Public bug reported:

[Hardy, fully updated]

I tried to print an OpenOffice attachment from Evolution, without saving
it (so the read-only version). This prints the email message, not the
OOo attachment. Tried it with another attachment and the same behaviour
was seen. After saving the document on the harddisk I could print
normally.

I'm not sure whether to file it agains Evolution or OOo, so I didn't
fill in a package.

[Bug 271222] [NEW] Rhythmbox and Sound Juicer use low FLAC compression

2008-09-17 Thread John Moser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

Sound juicer and Rhytmbox can extract CDs to FLAC. Toying with a file,
I found these outputs:

Original as ripped by Rhythmbox:
-rw--- 1 bluefox bluefox 14145212 2008-09-17 02:45 01 - Track 1.flac

re-encoded with `flac --best`:
-rw--- 1 bluefox bluefox 6947973 2008-09-17 02:45 01 - Track 1.best.flac

Notice that the re-encode used half the space. As this is lossless,
this should be default. Configuring this is not practical, as it uses a
confusing, manually-built pipeline string:

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! flacenc name=enc

I'm not sure what to add to tell gstreamer to use libflac's best
compression level, nor will any normal user.

[Bug 271229] [NEW] electricsheep broken in intrepid with compiz

2008-09-17 Thread Matt Philmon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: electricsheep

electricsheep won't run for me in fullscreen mode as a screensaver in
Ubuntu Intrepid with an ATI X800 All In Wonder video card with compiz
enabled and running (using open driver). I run a widescreen Dell LCD
monitor at 1680x1050. I don't know whether the bug is actually in
electricsheep, compiz, or some Xorg related package.

I can run it from a terminal prompt to have it come up in a window:
electricsheep --root 0 and it's fine. The installed desktop file
launches it like this: electricsheep --root 1 --zoom 1 With or without
zoom, the --root 1 option kills it. If in gnome-screensaver I can
preview the screensaver perfectly with no problems but when it trys to
run it flashes to black and then immediately quits, putting you back on
your desktop.

Disabling compiz temporarily and switching back to metacity instead and
electricsheep works perfectly fine. I read a bit and (with compiz
enabled) tried turning the setting "Unredirect fullscreen windows" both
on and off with no effect on electricsheep.

I also downloaded mplayer and tried running electricsheep like this:
electricsheep --mplayer 1 Interestingly enough, that works with the
version of electricsheep currently in the repo somewhat... it blacks out
the screen, but runs in 4:3 resolution in my widescreen monitor whereas
running electricsheep normally without mplayer (and compiz disabled)
fills the entire screen.

I've ALSO tried the latest PPA 's from here:
https://launchpad.net/~flam3/+archive
Same effects... runs great without compiz or windowed but won't run as my
screensaver... and this version from the PPA won't accept either the --zoom 1
or --mplayer 1 command line options.

I'd appreciate any help. I really love this screensaver.

[Bug 271228] [NEW] Update Amarok to version 1.4.10 (in Hardy)

2008-09-17 Thread feranick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

Version 1.4.10 fixes an important security vulnerability. Hardy is still
in version 1.4.9 and should be updated to version 1.4.10 (already in
Intrepid).

http://secunia.com/advisories/31418/

Amarok "MagnatuneBrowser::listDownloadComplete()" Insecure Temporary
Files

A security issue has been reported in Amarok, which can be exploited by
malicious, local users to perform certain actions with escalated privileges.
The security issue is caused due to the
"MagnatuneBrowser::listDownloadComplete()" function handling temporary files in
an insecure manner. This can be exploited via symlink attacks in combination
with a race condition to overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the
user running the application.

The security issue is reported in version 1.4.9.1. Prior versions may
also be affected.

Description:
OpenMRS is an open source medical record system which is focused on developing
countries. It is web based, written in Java, and is under active development.
Most of the core developers are from the Regenstrief Institute and Partners in
Health.

OpenMRS® is a community-developed, open-source, enterprise electronic
medical record system framework. We've come together to specifically
respond to those actively building and managing health systems in the
developing world,

OpenMRS is a free, open-source program.
We currently have a commonly used plugin, which utilizes Microsoft's InfoPath
program for data entry (and needless to say requires a license); otherwise, all
of the resources needed are open source and freely available.

[Bug 271234] [NEW] system-cleaner wants to cleanup /

2008-09-17 Thread Björn Torkelsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-cleaner

Running 'system-cleaner find' it lists (among some other things):

removable relatime:/
removable relatime:/var/cache/openafs

It is probably a bad idea to at list / as removable :-)

As /var/cache/openafs is not a standard Ubuntu partition it might be
correct to list that as removable.

[Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP

2008-09-17 Thread Steve Langasek
I understand the concerns about the appropriateness of EULAs in free
software programs (in part because I share them), but I don't see that
anything here warrants being a blocker for the alpha-6 milestone
release, so I'm dropping the milestone value for this bug. In terms of
the bug being on the release team's radar, I think that's accomplished -
it seems all the world is aware of this bug at this point. But I think
there are several arguments against treating this as a blocker to be
resolved prior to alpha-6:

- The EULA in question does not, from what I understand, require you to agree
with it before using the browser. Actually, thus far I've closed the tab
without reading it or giving my assent to it (and therefore, without effecting
any binding agreement...) So this is not, to my reading, a critical bug in the
sense of non-free software having snuck into main, the primary impact of the
bug is that the EULA is a nuisance. (Indeed, it appears that the EULA tab is
opened up every time I resume a firefox session - I'm not sure whether this is
intentional, or whether folks would agree this is a bug, and that the EULA is
only meant to be shown to the user once?)
- Even if the EULA were to demand a click-through, the fact that the source
license remains free means I would have the option to edit the source as a user
to bypass the EULA entirely. Not that I'm arguing this is a good overall
solution, of course; I think it would be bad for Ubuntu if users by and large
felt they needed to route around Ubuntu's default browser for such a reason.
But I think it does mitigate the urgency of this bug, especially in light of
the unbranded abrowser package that has been made available in Ubuntu.
- There is not a clear consensus within the Ubuntu community that this is a
bug, or if it is a bug, what the appropriate solution to the bug looks like,
and it's not appropriate to block the milestone indefinitely while such a
consensus develops.

I would also remind the many folks who have been commenting in this bug
log that Ubuntu being a community distribution does not mean that Ubuntu
development decisions are made by either popular vote or
applause-o-meter, and that the launchpad bugs system is not a discussion
forum. I'm confident that every effort is being made to ensure that the
outcome here is acceptable to the Ubuntu community (and the larger Free
Software community), but repeating points here that have been made
previously is not going to have a substantial effect on bringing about
your preferred outcome; indeed, I think the main impact it has is to
make this bug log frighteningly long and hard to find information in,
and cause a mail storm for the poor developers who are tasked with
maintaining the firefox packages in Ubuntu. Please consider whether
you're adding new content in this discussion, or if the second 400 bug
comments are going to be repeats of the first 400.

[Bug 271239] [NEW] [needs-packaging] HOSxP - hospital information system, including Electronic health record (EHR), workflow

2008-09-17 Thread Tree MendUs
Public bug reported:

URL:
http://hosxp.net/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HOSxP

Description:
HOSxP is a hospital information system, including Electronic health record
(EHR), in use in over 70 hospitals across Thailand. The software aims to ease
the healthcare workflow of health centers, for small sanitariums to central
hospitals.

Before becoming HOSxP, the software was called KSK-HDBMS. Seeking a more
friendly name, the development team opted for the name HOSxP, which
comes from Hospital and Experience. The name also reflects the
software's graphical user interface, which mimic the theme of Windows
XP, no matter what actually the underlying operating system.

License: Distributed under GNU General Public License (GPL), HOSxP is
free software.

[Bug 271250] [NEW] [needs-packaging] xChart - XML healthcare record

2008-09-17 Thread Tree MendUs
Public bug reported:

URL:
http://www.openhealth.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Healthcare

Description:
The Open Healthcare group is working on the promotion of the formal
specification of requirements for representing and communicating electronic
health record (EHR) information. It is an industry group promoting the use and
development of open-source healthcare software. As an organization it promotes
and distributes an open source health record, XChart.

XChart use the latest XML Internet technology. The Open Healthcare group
has developed the source code for a health record that will help you
automate and streamline the practice of medicine. Furthermore, since
XChart uses an open source code, you will be able to develop and
customize your own templates.

If you think XChart is missing a feature that could help your practice,
you are free to make the improvements. In addition, as a member of an
open source community, you will be able to share your new feature and,
in turn, benefit from the experience and work of others.

[Bug 270391] Re: jockey-gtk crashed during driver download

2008-09-17 Thread Phil C
Further replication of the bug shows that it appears to be an instance
of another bug already reported (Bug #253224).

I didn't come up with anything that would suggest that it should qualify
as a separate problem with the exception that the traceback differed
between instances.

I couldn't determine what was causing the difference.

[Bug 260291] Re: Network Manager 0.7, openvpn, VPN Connection Failed

2008-09-17 Thread Erki Hallingu
Hi,
I discovered that my problem was indeed different. While experimenting with
various settings, I had accidentally left "System setting" as checked. When
clearing that checkmark, my connection starts working.

Why does this affect the connection? If I understood correctly, this
means that by checking "System setting", the connection should by made
without user login. But when I'm actually logged in, the connection
should still be possible irrelevant of this setting?

ehci_hcd and uhci_hcd (both as an SD card reader and when accessing the
internal flash).

lsusb:
Bus 005 Device 005: ID 045e: Microsoft Corp.

lspci:
00:1a.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) USB2 EHCI
Controller #2 (rev 02)

I tried the Intrepid Alpha 5 live CD, and it gave me the same result. I
tried the autosuspend trick from post 209, no change. A year and a half
and no fix (not even a diagnosis) in sight. Wow!

I just upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid and then run the wizard in

checked my /etc/timezone file and found out that I was living in

[Bug 271255] [NEW] [needs-packaging] OSCAR McMaster (Suite) - web-based electronic medical record (EMR), accounts

2008-09-17 Thread Tree MendUs
Public bug reported:

URL:
http://www.oscarmcmaster.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSCAR_McMaster

Description:
OSCAR McMaster is a web-based electronic medical record (EMR) system initially
developed for academic primary care clinics. It has grown into a comprehensive
EMR and billing system used by many doctor's offices and private medical
clinics in Canada and other parts of the world. The name is derived from where
it was created and an acronym; OSCAR stands for Open Source Clinical
Application and Resource and McMaster refers to McMaster University, where it
was developed. It enables the delivery of evidence resources at the point of
care.

OSCAR supports all the necessary functions to run a family
practice clinic large and small:

* Patient registration for capitation or FFS practices and roster
management
* Scheduling with highly customizable view of provider groups and
individualized booking preference
* Billing also features super-code for smart and simplified billing
and third party billing
* Complete electronic charting of all encounters with an up to date
Cumulative Patient Profile (CPP) which provides a 'snapshot view' of important
demographics, all active medical problems, medications, allergies, significant
past history, family history and social history
* Prescription with drug-drug interaction and renal dosage adjustment
* Chronic disease management which maximizes revenue generation
through monitoring and alerting of preventative screening and best practice
interventions
* A sophisticated antenatal care record with antenatal care planner
* Disease Registry is provided to support population health analyses
* All laboratory results from private laboratories will be imported
directly into the EMR
* Diagnostic imaging results and consultation notes can be scanned
into the EMR where required

[Bug 107798] Re: IDE Drive is Listed as SATA with Feisty Live CD and install causes GRUB to be improperly configured (Error 15 on boot)

2008-09-17 Thread lcbn
I am getting the same error on first boot after completing fresh install
of 8.04.

My configuration is:
 - one IDE primary drive on which I put only /boot,
 - one SCSI drive (attached to 'bios-less' controller) on which I put remaing
filesystems.

I was unable to fix the issue using standard recovery procedures and by
manually editing several files like:menu.lst, mtab, fstab.

I was able to fix this misconfiguration only with Auto Super Grub Disk.

I would like to add that I didn't encounter such issue with OpenSuSE 11
in exact the same configuration.

[Bug 271125] Re: [intrepid] update manager poor incomplete message on broken package filter

2008-09-17 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks for your bugreport.

The current version of update-manager should be able to deal with a lot of
broken package, could you please run:
$ sudo apt-get install -f
so that I can see what particular issue your system has (but please do not
apply the changes, press "n").

update-manager should kick into a recovery mode. Maybe attach a gziped
version of your /var/lib/dpkg/status file as well.

Thanks,
 Michael
