[Bug 240203] Re: totem's youtube search engine input text area.

2008-06-16 Thread beytu
Hi,
I recorded the desktop. I hope it will explain my problem much better than i
can (sorry for my english).

So in this video, first i type "ubuntu compiz" in the text area, i
double click on the second item of the search result list. When the
video is playing, i enter again in the text area and remove the space
character. Each time i try to enter again this space character using the
space bar of my keyboard, it switching the video from play to pause like
we can see in this video (i hope).

If you want more explanation/video, don't hesitate.

Thanks for your attention guys...

[Bug 240473] [NEW] update-manager opens wrong browser

2008-06-16 Thread zoredache
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

On a system running xubuntu-desktop the update-manager doesn't open the
browser set in 'prefered applications'. Instead it opens up firefox 3
apparently via gnome-open.

This is a really annoying behavior in my case because I still prefer
firefox2 for extension support. Whenever FF3 gets open my FF2 profile
gets completely trashed and I have to restore from my backup

It seems like you should either add exo-open, or drop the gnome-open and
rely on only on starting x-www-browser

See ChangelogViewer.py line 170, and ReleaseNotesViewer.py line 121

2008-06-16 Thread Mathias Gug
I've attached a debdiff that fixes the issue.

It's a patch taken from debian revision 20071016-3.

The change has also been applied to the upstream tree
(http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/shemminger/iproute2.git;a=commit;h=ef1d6f97ec725e5e942f092ab4f5a4ceff17bb9c).

TEST CASE:
 * install the wondershapper package.
 * run the command:
sudo /usr/sbin/wondershaper eth0 48 48

Output with -2ubuntu1:
  What is "flowid"?
  Illegal "police"

Output with 2ubuntu2: nothing.

[Bug 227120] Re: Xen dom0 crash when writing to LVM volume with DELL PERC 5/i RAID

2008-06-16 Thread Björn Englund
I seem to have a similar problem.
Linux 2.6.24-18-xen #1 SMP Wed May 28 22:50:01 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Hardware: Dell PowerEdge 2900 with PERC5/i

Stumbled across this when doing some disk performance tests.
/dev/sda and /dev/sdb are disks on the PERC (setup as two separate single disk
raid0)
/dev/md3 is a software raid1 from /dev/sda5 and /dev/sdb5.

I changed the scheduler from the default cfq to deadline
echo deadline > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler
echo deadline > /sys/block/sdb/queue/scheduler

When I run this commands (or similar):
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/md3 bs=4K count=16K
I get a kernel panic, but _only_ when I'm not using the cfq scheduler. noop,
anticipatory and deadline all give the same behaviour (kernelpanic) but not cfq
(at least I haven't been
able to make it crash)
It doesn't happen with a non Xen kernel either.

I get these messages in the console

PCI-DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 65536 bytes at device :02:0e.0
[ 269.070347] [ cut here ]
[ 269.097818] kernel BUG at

@ oRo I can see the menu, you provided as jpeg, but I cant navigate
through these options, because my input wont be recognized properly by
the system. E.G. when I press up-arrow I get something like "[]]|K" in
white on red on the display. Every key has an output similar to this. no
key functions as usual.

Since I have no possibility to interact with the system in this way, i
have to do a hard reset...

[Bug 199088] Re: [Hardy] Message: "Suspend Problem. Your computer failed to suspend"

2008-06-16 Thread haelix
Hi,

I used to suffer from a regression in hardy: I would often get a beep,
lose (as in X server reset) my gnome session (without all gnome
infrastructure programs being killed, quite interestingly)

I performed an upgrade (I'm usually upgrading every dozen days or so) on
last sundayy. That seems to have improved vastly over the previous state
of affairs. Fwiw, the packages likely relevant to the issue have been
upgraded as follow:

initramfs-tools 0.85eubuntu36  -> 0.85eubuntu39.1

[Bug 134331] Re: gdebi should search for .debs in current folder

2008-06-16 Thread usr
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdebi

if you want to install a program which consists of two .debs, e.g. many games
at www.getdeb.net, UFO A.I. for example;
(ufoai + ufoai-data) - you usually place them into one download-folder and
install them.
  you can do that with "dpkg -i ufoai*";

But my wishlist says: If you doubleclick on ufoai.deb gdebi searches the
current directory for possibly dependencies as well - maybe as second priority,
first should be the repository?
should be simple to implement I think an would be very useful...

+
+ Example: You have installed aMule 2.1.0
+
+ Download amule-2.2.0.deb and amule-common-2.2.0.deb.
+ Try to install with GDebi. It is not posible because GDebi says:

installed.
+ or
+ - Not possible to install amule-common-2.2.0.deb because

[Bug 240476] [NEW] Evince fails to retrieve parts of document from Web server

2008-06-16 Thread Andrew P.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

In PDF documents that are served partially or in sections with
hyperlinks in the index or within the document itself, Evince fails to
retrieve the linked section from the server. For example, see the
"United States Government Printing Office Style Manual" at

Contents links work perfectly in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat, but not
at all in Evince. Evince displays a "File not found" error message.

translations portion of Launchpad ([WWW]

[Bug 240477] [NEW] Gwenview-KDE4 displays transparency as black color

2008-06-16 Thread Arthur Schiwon
Public bug reported:

I detected this behavior when i worked on a photo with GIMP, added an
alpha channel and cut off edges. I wanted to look at the product (PNG
format) with Gwenview-KDE4 2.1 (KDE Version 4.08). Instead of the
expected transparent corners, they are displayed black. The preview
provided by Dolphin was correct in spite of that and so was it opened
with Firefox 3.

After that i made a test image from scratch, that is a blank,
transparent Canvas with a green square drawn on it (with GIMP again). I
saved it as PNG as well as GIF and the results were the same:
Transparency was turned into black with Gwenview, but it is displayed
correctly in Dolphin Preview and Firefox.

I attach the latest test picture.

I just tested using the procedure explained in the original bug post.
The bug still exists in 3.0 RC1, so this bug post is still valid.

buggy behavior is also apparent using the polite exit.

A sudo umount does remove the drive correctly even when the device isn't

there be no mechanism for auto detection of this?

BTW its the same for SD cards on my laptops SD reader.

[Bug 239888] Re: totem player video does not move with window

UPDATE: I have enabled metacity and the video works fine, thus
suggesting a fault with Compiz? This was with NO desktop effects, when I

I'm no expert, that's what you genius' are for. Should I file a bug on
compiz/metacity rather than Totem? Just to note this does not happen
when playing flash in Firefox, so it's not every video source.

[Bug 240299] Re: Gnunet configuration assistant broken pipe error

OK, so we care about this. How did you start the config assistant? Using
the GTK interface, 'General' tab? Could you run in a terminal 'gnunet-
setup wizard-gtk -LDEBUG' and post here the output? Thanks!

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-06-16 Thread dimovnike
Interesting! Setting ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true really helps, but not after
start. On my ACER Extensa 5210 it helps after I unplug and plug back the
AC cord. So just after the start (if laptop started on AC) it is just as
before, but if you unplug the AC cord - the power management is beeing
set to 1 (which is acceotble for running on battery) if you plug back
the AC cord, APM is switched off. I;m going to write a startup script
which changes APM settings on startup...

[Bug 240484] [NEW] Kubuntu Add Printer wizard can't read PPD files

2008-06-16 Thread Anders Bruun Olsen
Public bug reported:

When attempting to install a Konica Minolta Magicolor 2350 on a fresh
Kubuntu Hardy install I ran into a bug in the Add Printer wizard. Since
the driver is not included in Hardy I went to
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=KONICA_MINOLTA-
Magicolor_2350 and downloaded the driver (direct link:
http://printer.konicaminolta.net/drivers/linux/2350lin_ppds.tar.gz).
When choosing Other and selecting the english PPD the Wizard just says
there is a syntax error in the PPD. If I reenable the admin-part of the
webinterface and add the printer through that CUPS accepts the PPD just
fine.

[Bug 231455] Re: ThinkPad A21p - Screen Resolution Problems

2008-06-16 Thread rinconj
I have a few A21p and A22p and have encountered the same problem. I tried to
run displayconfig-gtk, but it then asked me for the driver. Do I need to
install other drivers? Can you tell me more details about
the procedures? I plan to have all 3 A21p/A22p running the same Ubuntu 8.04,

[Bug 240453] Re: ecryptfs broke from feisty to hardy (Input/output error)

2008-06-16 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I am changing the package to 'Linux' because ecryptfs
appears to be part of the kernel. Please include the following
additional information, if you have not already done so, as required by
the Ubuntu Kernel Team:

1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report. (note "vv" not 'w")

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

[Bug 163898] Re: openoffice document icon is blurry when upscaled

2008-06-16 Thread Milan
I'd like to reopen this one. This is a bug in OO.o, and not in AWN. The
icon OO.o uses for document windows is the same as that which is used in
the toolbar for 'New Text/Chart/Base/Draw': in both place, it is blurry.
This icon is different from that of each OO.O app in the themes.

What could be nice is that document windows use the icons for the
corresponding OO.o app, this would be more consistent. And for 'New',
different icon sizes should be shipped.

[Bug 160996] Re: evince has trouble handling filename with escaped shell characters

2008-06-16 Thread Mike Rooney
Hi Lars. I notice the title says trouble with escaped shell characters,
but as Pedro mentioned, you aren't actually escaping them, unless by
escaping you are referring to the quotes around just part of the
filename. I have never seen a partially quoted filename but perhaps it
is valid. If this is the case can you try escaping the colon with a
backslash, otherwise if the single quotes are part of the filename, try
Pedro's solution, and report back? Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 225950] Re: [8.04] Drawing evolution window on screen very slow

2008-06-16 Thread v4169sgr
Issue not fixed by evolution update mentioned above, and I would not
like this to be missed.

Clarification: Evolution main panel in LTSP client, and email windows
generated by double clicking on an email, are painfully slow to draw.
There is a perceptible delay of 2-3 seconds before content is formatted,
and when switching windows the previous content of the main panel area
remains visible again for 2-3 seconds.

Such issues are not apparent at all when using evolution on the LTSP
server itself, using the same user profile.

2008-06-16 Thread Julián Alarcón
Problems!!!
When you update to the last packages (proposed repository), we have a security
problem..

Try to install the las packages, restart the X system, and when you are in your
session, lock the screen, the transition to black works but at the end of the
transition the screen turn to a transparence black where you can see the
screen!!.
This is a security problem..

[Bug 66900] Re: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)

2008-06-16 Thread Richard Seguin
Ralf, since you are the original reporter is this issue fixed for you?

As for the rest of you experiencing this same problem I understand that
it is still very frustrating for you and it would be helpful if we could
fix your APIC issues as well. It appears as this bug was hardware
specific and as a result I am asking whoever else is having this problem
to please submit a separate bug report (** and please indicate what your
hardware is **) so we can move forward with this issue.

Thank you,

Richard Seguin
